[Q] Will Verizon swap my pre-ordered white for a black? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I pre-ordered so that I could get in on the unlimited data "glitch". When ordering, I guess I must've been anxious because I accidentally ordered the white when I actually wanted the black. Do u guys think Verizon will swap it for me at a store? What's most important is keeping my unlimited data so if it means that I'll have to keep the White, then so be it.

i would suggest not even opening the box and taking in store and swapping. that would be the easiest way and get a nice manager

One.. couldn't say it any better. doing it over the phone. They will have to cancel your hole order and start a new one.. more waiting time for you.
HA HA HA

Thanks

Don't do it.

As one with a verizon manager as family, I can tell you that the upgrade is tied to the ESN of that specific device. Swapping before activating can very well set off a red flag that may cause issues.
My recommendation is to take the device (sealed in the original box) to your local store, tell them what you want, see if they'll work with you to swap it. Odds are, they will open the box, activate the SIM that's coming with the device, then open the black one and use that SIM in the black phone. There is a chance that they won't allow the swap, but I find it unlikely.

i believe youll be fine if you take it back to a store. just dont open it.

My recommendation would be unless you absolutely need black don't do it. Given that you got unlimited data due to a glitch, any change could result in the system glitch reverting itself with no potential fix. Even if the glitch somehow stuck, you are looking at at least a 35$ restock fee. Personally I would say get the note 3 black otterbox and call it a day.

^ Yeah, I'm leaning towards just keeping the white. I don't want to screw up my unlimited and I'm scared to even chance it.

Go on craigslist and post request for a swap; if you do it at a VZW store they'll even register the new phone under your plan's insurance. Had to do this with an iPhone 5 a while back.

I'm in the exact same boat as the OP. I really didn't want the white, but the only way I could get black during the glitch was if I bought the bundle with the gear. I was considering swapping the white N3 for a black one or maybe returning it for a G2, but after reading these posts, it looks like I may be stuck with the white N3.

Just go in store and trade they won't mess it up

[Q] Buy one get one question

Hey guys,
I'm on a family plan with 4 phones eligible for upgrade. I want the Fascinate but no one else does and I was curious if I could upgrade my line (line 1) and set the free phone up to another line (line 3)... then when the phones come activate both lines 1 & 3 then activate line 3 on its old no data plan required phone. And keep the free Fascinate as a backup?
Now the question here is if I do that would I be charged data on line 3 even though its using a dumb phone? Like is the contract when I get the 2 phones mean that I have to pay the data for all 2 years, because I think (hope) that this would work.
Any thoughts on if this would work, or if I am just completely missing the mark with this?
The data would be prorated, in other words it might cost a dollar, do it!

My thought exactly. Buy two. Pay the ETF for the 2nd phone and sell it. At the very least we only need to get $325 back and anything over that gets us money back in our pocket.
Yea thats another thing you can do too, but I want to have it as a backup phone so I dont have to pay for the insurance.

to be honest i dont think it will work that way since its for new 2yr agreements, but good luck, let of know the outcome.
To get two you need two upgrades but if you have two and want to waste one go for it

Am I being petty, pebble blue finish not perfect

Just got my blue SGS3 today and I've noticed one area where the finish appears scratched, but UNDERNEATH the glaze. Hard to photograph with my crappy old phone, but the photo makes it look less noticeable than it really is.
Should I keep it or send it back? Anyone else got this prob?
I see what you mean. Maybe that's the reason the blue was delayed in the UK?
maybe thats the issue they had for recalling all the blues. Yours slipped though the net
Blue went back for a respray .

It's not a cheap phone and it's brand new... I wouldn't be happy with that finish either and would get it replaced.

^^ this. For a phone that costs $700, I'd think anything that looks like it shouldn't be there warrants a replacement.
Take that ish back!
Well I've called up my service provider and they've agreed to replace it with another new one - only problem is that they aren't getting another batch in for 2 weeks new one won't arrive til 27th June...
I can still keep this one til then, but it means I have to baby it/not take it out for fear of dropping it/not root it, basically treat it as a loaner.
I'm half tempted to say f*ck it, I'll just keep it - but you're all right, this is an expensive machine, I don't want a faulty paint job! Who's to say it won't get worse as well, since it's a prob with manufacturing process.
Get a replacement and ask for bill credit for your trouble... you're going to have to re input all your apps and info... worth a shot

Already ahead of ya - they've agreed to waive the 2wks fees (£17) that I'll be without my "own" S3. I thought about going ape and demanding a whole month (£34), but took pity on the girl in the call centre in India.
Plus it's not really Three's fault, it's Samsung's fault. Three haven't been too bad to me so far, so I won't be an a**hole difficult customer to them until it's warranted

I'd recommend that you tell them your situation that you'll keep it till the new stock arrives and they ship it to you. I remember having a similar issue with my Motorola razor v9 flip phone (att USA). They sent me a new razor and asked me to return the defective phone once I've received the new one. This should work for them.
Ps: Lol looks like have a thing for Indian girls jk.

keep it and fanny about with it to your hearts content till they replace it. just remember and revert it to stock and triangle away before you post it back to them.

True, but do you honestly think they are going to open every box and inspect for bad craftsmanship? If they were part of the assembly process then sure, but they merely order en mass and then either drop ship to their customers or reship from their warehouse.
I think the OP is doing the right and ethical thing by not blowing this out of proportion. To many people these days try and milk every little "mistake" that cross their path. But to each their own, the important thing is that he is getting a replacement with no down time and a few bucks for his troubles.

Think it has something to do with Apple, whether they want to admit it or not. Had a black version been available, I'd have gotten that one, but I've settled with the white version for now(was going for the blue version, but after seeing it in person I'm glad I went with white when the former was delayed).
It'll probably not be that long lived if the Note 2 gets released in October.

[INFO]Don't like your custom made X? Easy exchanges!

So I'm sure there are some people out there that ordered a device and when the said device got in their hands it wasn't what they expected.
Mine was a White front, navy back and silver accents. I'm not too sure how I feel about the white front. I have mixed feelings about it so I decided to chat in with the Moto X support people to inquire about the exchange process. I told them I wasn't happy with the colors and would like to exchange it. They told me there were two options available.
1. The would take my CC info and put a hold on it for the full retail price of the phone, they would email me a code to design another and a return label and said once I get the new device send them back the old device and the hold on my card would be removed. When chatting in with him he said he would need someone to call me back within the next 24-48 hours.
Today no phone call but all of a sudden my inbox lit up with 3 emails. One with a code to customize and order my new device, one with my RMA info and one with the FED EX return label. I couldn't believe how easy the process was. I's very much like how they do things with devices from the play store. I was so thankful I didn't have to deal with AT&T on the exchange because I've had bad experiences with that and them in the past.
2. The traditional RMA route. They send you a label, you send your device, they get it an then send you the code to make your new one.
besides my experiences with the play store, this was a very easy, non frustrating and very quick process.
Also if you're like me and are kind of on the fence about the color you picked, (don't hate it but just not sure) you can then have two side by side and compare before you send yours back if you go with option 1 above

My bet would be they will either have a mass sales of the crappy colors later or the back and trim is easy enough to remove that they just change them out make it black or white and send it to a carrier as a refurb.

I've ordered via phone and I'm getting the black one. I never thought I'd customize it because plain black had always been my choice.

Try craigslist. You are not going to find the Note 3 off contract for less than $550-600.
Way too early to get it cheaper. It's a highly anticipated device so everyone is gonna get asking price for it. Like ericdabbs said, try craigslist after its already been released. There will be people who bought it then found it too big for them.

Perhaps Verizon and Sprint still ESN block and attach to account.
GSM phones block across the board and are only attached to the original account.
I thought with LTE they would do the same. Glad they don't. It's very scummy.

I would say eBay from someone who bought one and decided it was "too big" and was too late in returning it, also check swappa.com
Craigslist always has people who buy the phone at upgrade price and immediately sell for a couple hundred off full retail. They make some easy cash and you save some. Just make sure you meet the seller at a Verizon store to verify not stolen. On a side note if you live in a marginal coverage area you can open a new account and get phone for discount price. Wait 15 days and complain about signal. They let you walk from contract with no charge. Then you just pop your sim in and bingo bango bongo. Im on my parents family plan with unlimited so this worked for me last year.
beamed from transporter room 3
Check Swappa. I'm not sure I'll be keeping my glitch-ordered white 32gb Note 3. I already bought my GS4 at full retail.
Will have to see what my first impressions are...

Thinking of making a change

Hello everyone. I currently have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and love my phone and what it does. I almost never use the stylus on it so that feature isn't important to me. I've been reading up on the Nexus 6p for months now and with tax returns coming up was thinking of biting the bullet and getting one to swap out my Note 4 for. Before I do that though I wanted to get some feedback from others regarding buying used vs new (if possible), the state of development on a device that's as old as it is (development seems to be going pretty solid from the glimpse into the development threads) and general information regarding the phone and if it's a good idea to make the switch. I use my phone for EVERYTHING. It's the houses WiFi which is extremely important but I don't pay for hotspot usage. Is that unlocked on the ROMs for the Nexus 6p?
Please, any and all input is welcome. I've had this phone for a long time and would like to get my hands on something new (even if it's a phone around the same age). Thank you.

It's a developers phone so development will always be strong on a nexus phone.
However there are a lot of hardware faults currently known with this phone and as such you shouldn't buy a used one as you won't get the warranty support from google/huawei. And you cannot buy them new anymore due to google releasing their pixel range.

So if I can find a new one I should go that route? Although Google released the Pixel and pulled them from their store I have seen them in retail stores like Best Buy still (rarely). Buying from a store should still give me a warranty through the store and manufacturer if even for a short period of time shouldn't it?
Thank you for the response.

I would absolutely buy new if you can find one in the capacity that you need. I see BB selling the 32GB version which would be too small for me. The brick and mortar store route would be the safest from a warranty perspective, otherwise it will just be covered by the manufacturer's warranty which from all accounts appears to be really piss poor. Hotspot has always worked well on my device running the stock rom (AT&T).
Also, Newegg still has them in stock. They have a mix of 32, 64, and 128 directly sold by newegg, Brand New. You just have to make sure its shipped and sold by Newegg when purchasing. I purchased mine from Newegg in March

I would need at least 64GB since I use my SD card a LOT. I assumed hotspot worked but since I don't pay for hotspot on my plan (most on xda with Sprint note 4 don't) it needs to be unlocked/modded within the ROM somewhere or an app like GalaxyTools needs to be used on the Note 4 in order to use it. Is that not a thing with the Nexus 6p?

Awesome, thank you. I didn't think about them.

The hotspot has never been an issue on AT&T on the N6P. Someone else will have to confirm whether or not it works on Sprint.

I think we may be talking about different things. I'm sure hotspot works without issue. AT&T gives hotspot data on their plans though, Sprint does not (well it does but it's super small). In order to use hotspot without paying for their plan there is a modification done within the ROM (not sure exactly where) that changes the way the hotspot data is reported to the carrier, it shows as regular data instead of hotspot data. I refuse to pay their insane pricing for hotspot usage when I already have unlimited data so having free usage of hotspot is extremely important. If that isn't something done in the Nexus 6p ROMS I made have to skip the phone sadly. Hopefully a Sprint user will come along and weigh in.
I greatly appreciate your input though. The lack of availability on new versions of this phone may put the nail in the coffin unfortunately, we shall see though. Thanks again.

You could go to Fi.google.com, sign up for their cheapest plan ($30/mo) and get one (I'm assuming new and get the warranty). You could cancel the Project Fi service after one month.

Not a terrible idea. Just pull the SIM out and use the sprint one I would need to order. Curious about the hotspot dilemma though. Seeing a lot of results with people needing the carrier provided hotspot plan with this phone and not so much saying otherwise. I use 200-250GB of data a month so paying for that would be insane.

If you mean new as in from the Play Store, then yes, you are correct. Third party vendors still sell them, though. I bought my brand new in box 128GB 6P from B&H Photo in December 2016 for $549, so it is very possible to buy them new, just not from the Play Store.
Amazon still sells them too, but I would be very weary about ordering from them. I originally ordered my phone from them, but they sent me the wrong color/storage size. The brown box they shipped it in was pristine when it arrived at my house, but the actual white box with the phone in it looked like a dog had chewed on it before they packed it...
You can still buy them new on Amazon as well and you get the one year warranty from Huawei. But definitely don't buy one used. You need the warranty, just in case.
I have a sprint service. If you do not pay for Hotspot, Hotspot cannot be turned on.
But, I have heard that you can if you are rooted, not tested.
There are also apps which let you and are quite popular.

Would you be willing to test a build.prop change for me to see if it'll work or are you not rooted?

Looks like they've discontinued the 128GB on B&H Photo but the 64GB is still on there. May go down that route. Thank you for the site name.

Sorry not rooted but the apps should work. Search Google, many have almost five star ratings. It will be easier if you do not plan to root.

I always root my phone (been a necessity in the past, maybe not going forward though). Phones aren't cheap though and I have to be able to provide hotspot for my house so I've got to get confirmation from someone on Nexus 6P before I go down the route of getting a phone. Appreciate the input though, I'll take a look into the apps.

Looks like the build.prop editing on this phone just needs the bootloader unlocked from what I'm reading. That's very different but this is a completely different manufacturer than I'm used to.

What color are you looking for? Only black, silver, and white went up to 128GB. If you're looking to buy a gold 6P, they're only available in 32 or 64 gigs.

Black is what I wanted, would have settled for silver. Pretty sure 128GB just wasn't available on B&H

So here's the thing, there is definitely Hotspot functionality. It will work with sprint 100%. The question is not if the Hotspot functionality will work or not, but if you will be able to turn it on without the carrier charging you. If it has worked before, then it should work.
Also, you said you root your phone. What things do you use root for. I know some apps are root only, but what are the benefits of rooting? Am thinking about it
