Am I being petty, pebble blue finish not perfect - Galaxy S III General

Just got my blue SGS3 today and I've noticed one area where the finish appears scratched, but UNDERNEATH the glaze. Hard to photograph with my crappy old phone, but the photo makes it look less noticeable than it really is.
Should I keep it or send it back? Anyone else got this prob?

I see what you mean. Maybe that's the reason the blue was delayed in the UK?

It's not a cheap phone and it's brand new... I wouldn't be happy with that finish either and would get it replaced.

PCadvisor is reporting that the Blue version of the SIII won't be available for a few days yet.

Got mine today in Australia. Finish is perfect as far as I can tell, has none of issues shown by op. Send it back.

^^ this. For a phone that costs $700, I'd think anything that looks like it shouldn't be there warrants a replacement.

Well I've called up my service provider and they've agreed to replace it with another new one - only problem is that they aren't getting another batch in for 2 weeks new one won't arrive til 27th June...
I can still keep this one til then, but it means I have to baby it/not take it out for fear of dropping it/not root it, basically treat it as a loaner.
I'm half tempted to say f*ck it, I'll just keep it - but you're all right, this is an expensive machine, I don't want a faulty paint job! Who's to say it won't get worse as well, since it's a prob with manufacturing process.

Get a replacement and ask for bill credit for your trouble... you're going to have to re input all your apps and info... worth a shot

Already ahead of ya - they've agreed to waive the 2wks fees (£17) that I'll be without my "own" S3. I thought about going ape and demanding a whole month (£34), but took pity on the girl in the call centre in India.
Plus it's not really Three's fault, it's Samsung's fault. Three haven't been too bad to me so far, so I won't be an a**hole difficult customer to them until it's warranted

You're half right it's not their fault but you didn't buy it from Samsung, you bought it from them. They have to stand by their products. And if she offered two weeks best believe she can do better

I'd recommend that you tell them your situation that you'll keep it till the new stock arrives and they ship it to you. I remember having a similar issue with my Motorola razor v9 flip phone (att USA). They sent me a new razor and asked me to return the defective phone once I've received the new one. This should work for them.

keep it and fanny about with it to your hearts content till they replace it. just remember and revert it to stock and triangle away before you post it back to them.

True, but do you honestly think they are going to open every box and inspect for bad craftsmanship? If they were part of the assembly process then sure, but they merely order en mass and then either drop ship to their customers or reship from their warehouse.
I think the OP is doing the right and ethical thing by not blowing this out of proportion. To many people these days try and milk every little "mistake" that cross their path. But to each their own, the important thing is that he is getting a replacement with no down time and a few bucks for his troubles.

Think it has something to do with Apple, whether they want to admit it or not. Had a black version been available, I'd have gotten that one, but I've settled with the white version for now(was going for the blue version, but after seeing it in person I'm glad I went with white when the former was delayed).
It'll probably not be that long lived if the Note 2 gets released in October.

Need to Vent!

So... TODAY, I finally got my fascinate exactly how I want it.
Im running SC2.9.2V... Midnight Steel Theme... All my apps set....
everything running great. Best its ever been.
So, what happens...
The phone is sitting on the console of my car... Minding its own business... Some guy cuts me off and it falls between the small crack between my seat and the console. So, I park... get out of the car... and start to move the seat back and i hear CRACKKKKKKK......
So, I start moving the seat forward... Somehow, get my hand under the seat and pull out my phone... Screen is completely Cracked... ARGHHHHH
I have the Bestbuy insurance, so they will replace it, but now I have to start all over again.. Rooting... Installing... blah blah blah...
Ok... I feel slightly better now...
Gonna call Bestbuy now and start the replacement process
...good luck with that, most insurance policies through retailers don't cover cracked screens...
OK.. more VENTING
So, I call BB...
1... They tell me my plan was cancelled back in Dec... The Credit Card I had on file had expired and they couldnt bill it
2... They can not re-instate the policy because its over 3 months since cancellation
3... I had planned on telling them that I lost the phone, but it turns out that they dont cover loss or theft..
Man... This sucks
So, turns out, I am do for an upgrade on my account. I can get a new Fascinate from Verizon or maybe I just go for the ThunderBolt.....

Certified Pre-Owned. Phones that come with nothing but a Battery. Also no manufacturer warranty, as far as I know.
Check them out on Verizon's website. Mine came with battery, charger, 16gb sd card, and 1 year warranty. I have had zero issue's, and the phone looked brand new.

Not a bad option!
I actually called Verizon and added the $5/month insurance...
Their insurance offers a replacement for lost phones.. the deductible is $99 for smartphones.
I cant make a claim for 30 days.

Its gonna be a long 30 days looking at that stupid spiderweb crack all thru the glass.
Does it still work?? You can always make a backup in Clockwork/get your new phone/use your SD Card/Root and restore.

Phone works perfect. And that is totally the plan... I just need to get the new (or CPO) phone.
Its funny... I keep thinking about the guy that cut me off... The only reason I was on that road at that time, was because I happened to go to sunglasshut and bought my wife a new pair of sunglasses... She recently broke hers and was complaining that she wanted new ones. I was gonna surprise her tonight with the new pair.

Had I just headed home after work, none of this would have happened. I better get some action from her tonight !

CPO phone is actually great. People might think it is bad because someone previously owned, but I bought one in January and its running smooth as my brother's Fascinate. I actually do recommend it.

Now... The kicker... My wife HATES the sunglasses I picked... She was happily surprised that I thought of her, but I have to go back tomorrow and exchange them.

Squaretrade. Warranty service is far superior to any extended warranty. Accidental drops and handling. Water damage also covered. $99 for two years coverage with $50 deductible. They will replace your broken phone with a brand new one, or give you up to $499 for a new one.

Classic I know how that goes.
No doubt a cpo will work just as well but its a shame to renew a 2 year contract for a facinate now. Yea the facinate fing rocks after flashing new kernel, rom, radio, and voodooing the filetable to ext. But is this really a good time to lock into a two year contract for a preowned facinate?
E#verytime I have my phone exactly how i want it something new comes out like a new kernel or a new something and then i end up temp bricking my phone and starting all over... I guess your worse off having to get a new phone... but on the other hand you'll have a new phone!

What's got me puzzled is that I was told that sprints still out of evos.. new and refurbished? I'm a bit pulled on this could have something to do with what's going on in Japan?
I understand the evo/android is popular but to still be out of stock is crazy

Don't the Sprint repair center carry replacements so even if they are out of stock you might still get one?
And yes, it blows me away the phone is still hard to get

Sprint or Asurion? Or both? Asurion told me 14 days when I needed a replacement but actually got it to me in about 10. When I did get the phone, it was brand new and not a refurb, which made me happy and the well worth the wait.

I dont get this either. I just received a letter in the mail stating the insurance is going up $1 / month. When I need a replacement EVO I need it now. Not tomorrow. /End Rant
I'm actually going to pick up my replacement EVO today, it did take a few extra days do to back orders, but it's in now.
I had the same issue, screen pulling away, this will be my third.
It's crazy to me when I hear people having so many replacements. Are you guys really that unlucky... or are you that hard on your phones?

Week ago when I thought I bricked my phone, I went into the repair center and they said it was a 2 week wait for a refurbished phone. I found that shocking.

mine all started when sprint's "techs" just replaced my launch day evo ( was in mint condition no leakage nothing) since i was having 3g speed trouble .
EVERY refurb since thene i have had to have replaced for leakage screen pulling from the housing etc etc

So I'm jumping ship

So I got my first shift on launch day. I was so excited to get away from my Moment. I got it from best buy and got the Black tie protection. I thought I got black tie in conjunction with the sprint insurance. Less than a month later, I drop the phone in the sink and take it to BB. They send it off to their repair ctr and I'm stuck with the Moment for 3 weeks before I get a new Shift. 3 weeks is a long time to wait for a phone, so I cancel the best buy insurance (thinking I still had sprint's.)
Then less than a month later, my down volume rocker stops working and i take the phone to the sprint store. Turns out, best buy canceled the sprint insurance and so not only do they not repair/replace the phone, they take pictures of the broken solder points on the volume rocker, circle them, and show me exactly where the hardware defect is that they wont fix! So I call Assurion pissed about this and get my insurance reinstated.
A couple weeks later, I take my phone to another sprint repair center and they tell me that my phone has been added to a "Do not repair" list and that they cant do anything about it. Furious again about this situation, I call sprint and they give me some crap about how the insurance didnt start til after the phone was placed on the list, so they cant fix the phone.
So I gave up. I cancelled the insurance again and just used the phone on vibrate all the time. Well, last week, my screen shattered and I was just gonna buy a new screen and fix it and the broken solder on the motherboard at one time. they wont fix it anyway right? But then my fiance suggested that I call sprint and complain again.
Well I did, and this time told them that as soon as the Nexus Prime came out, I would be leaving sprint (to whom I have been a loyal customer since 2001) for verizon and now all of a sudden, they're apologizing for the way they treated me. The rep said that they cant fix the shift because it was on the Do-not-repair list, but he could give me a brand new Epic Touch for $30 and I was still eligible for my upgrade in January.
Moral of the story is, Buy a case for your phone.
Either way you look at it, its time for an upgrade... Go with what makes you happy pal,, best of luck to you

Omg that hella sucks balls. They gave me that phone at bestbuy for a loaner while they tried to fix my hero. Then the refurb hero came in and it was stuck to a bad esn so they gave me a new shift. That sammy inter sucked worse then my hero ever did. I dont see any way in hell bb or sprint could send you an inny for a shift! This phone rocks way more socks. If you "paid" $30 bones for that i would raise hell worse then a nercomancer! Hope all ends and pays off for you and you took names and employee numbers!

Call Sprint raise Hell, and the mention the "V" word. They hate hearing that. Seems like once you mention Verizon, it changes their attitude. Well at least that's my experience .

Damn....I'm sorry. Call sprint, tell them you want to cancel and they"ll send you to 'rententions' (or they used to anyway, coulda changed in the past few years) and raise hell. You can prob squeeze out some major concessions if you mention verizon a few times

Well now we know why it was only $30 . sorry though thats horrible. my mother has the intercept and if she didn't need a phone i'd chunk it out the windows, skip it like a rock in the pond, and see if it would work as a speed bump for cars.
It's possibly the worst phone sprint carries "not to discourage the fun times you'll have with it"
but I would call sprint and (like everyone else said) raise hell as much as you can. hopefully you did take notes and kept track of this. and like prboy said make sure you mention Verizon that'll get em to do something.
I feel for ya, me and that phone hate each other, and even the custom roms and kernels don't help that much.

Seems like getting a replacement shift is damn near impossible right now.
Will post more shortly, calling HTC corporate right now. Called CS last night, no help, called sprint last night no help.

Well the manager of Customer Service called me back and we had a very long conversation. She will be looking into why the HTC replacement phones are on backorder.
Also told her they need to make an Evo Shift 2. heheh
She'll be getting back to me soon.

Got my replacement, only thing I don't like about it is it is that the last one had rounded glass on the touchscreen and camera lens, it was odd but beautiful, make it feel like one of those new winmo nokia phones.

I heard that HTC is cutting back on manufacturing these devies, both the OG Evo and the Evo Shift. But HTC still has to consider replacement devices so they probably have cut back their production line for these devices quite a bit but still keep small sections open for manufacturing . Either way to me it sounds like more of a issue on HTC's part with the back orders and Sprint shouldn't really be blamed. But sprint should have a loaner phone policy where customers can pay a deposit or something if Sprint is worried that much about people not returning the loaner phones as they say on that link that Vicodan posted. Then you could of course get the deposit back once your new device comes in. A shift 2 with a dual core cpu would be nice though. I think HTC should consider this when planning their new devices to manufacturer.

It's more like Sprint clears out inventory of replacement shifts, 500 shifts break and they order 500 more and you get your replacement. It's a really weird system but it makes sense, they buy in bulk. That is the understanding that I have and can share publicly without getting into too much confidential detail but HTC heard my concerns loud and clear, I promise you that.
Every concern everyone has voiced on this forum has been voiced including my own.
I would just say patience is a virtue guys.

Actually HTC told me that....

+1... Sprint and/or HTC know how dependent people are on their mobile devices, because they and modern technology have made us that dependent... To solve the non return issue of loaners, a simple $300 charge on bill when loaner is accepted by customer and $300 credit on the bill when loaner is returned, all guaranteed by a basic agreement signed by sprint and the customer. I didn't even go to business school and that makes sense to me...

I recently replaced my phone beginning of January because the screen went out and it wouldn't react to touch anymore. But anyways I was one of the lucky ones who got a replacement in a week...I hope you don't have to wait too long though!

1saleaday - Scammers

I ordered a Galaxy Note GT-N7000 (i9220) from 1saleaday.com on 03/15/12, and finally received the shipment yesterday (03/28/12). When I opened the shipping container, I discovered an unsealed Galaxy Note box (These were sold as BNIB) that contained all of the accessories, but no Galaxy Note. I have been in constant contact with them the last two days, at which point they tried to persuade me into purchasing today's deal on the Note, at which point they would refund my money and cancel my previous order. Unwilling to do this, because I am already out $584, and was not prepared to throw good money after bad to a company that does not even have a customer service phone number, I was finally informed at the end of their business day today (4:30 PM EDT) that I would NOT be receiving a refund, after all. You see, apparently I am not alone in this, and rather than them take care of the customers who have already tied money up in their shady venture, they now want to do an "investigation" into how widespread this may be. I signed a sworn affidavit attesting to the fact that I did not receive the phone, just the box and accessories, yet they still refuse to refund my money or send me the phone. I do not believe they do this to everyone, but I think they selectively choose random customers here and there when they think they can get away with committing fraud. So, consider this a heads up that doing business with these losers can leave you without the item you paid for or the money you used to pay for it.
I have bought quite a number of items from 1Saleaday and received everything in order including a BNIB HTC View 4G. Just file a dispute or charge back from your Credit Card. Hope you get your money/phone asap.
I have gotten a tentative refund from my credit card company, but this could easily devolve into a "he said, she said" mess, which I want to avoid. What I do not want to avoid is publicly defecating on their business name, which I am in the process of doing across the internet.
I bought a motorola Atrix lapdock from them a couple of week ago. Finally got it 3 and1/2 Weeks later. It was a b#$&h trying to communicate with them. It was only $55 but I was that close to calling my credit card company and filling a claim to get my money back. that's the first and last time I'm buying anything from 1 sale. Might be a good idea to call your credit card up and see what your options are.

well when u think about it its not really their fault some employee probably at the shopping warehouse stole it and ofcourse the want to check into it, if they gave everyone a refund as soon as they got a complaint they would be in major trouble

Exactly. I'm no fan of 1Sale either, but they can't just issue such a large refund immediately. If I were in charge, I'd want to investigate this claim as well.
Their internal investigation is of no consequence to me. They asked me to just sign an affidavit so they could issue the refund, I did so, and the minute I told them I was not interested in buying today's special, they changed their tune. Either state that I am getting it, dependent on some conditions, or tell me they need to look into the matter further.

+1 for sure, I always set up my tripod and camera before I open the package, even if I'm super excited to get it. I've gotten a box of CD's and a few rocks instead of an XBOX on Ebay. I'll never make that mistake again.
I had an interesting experience with them as well when I was in the market for a 2nd computer to do some dev work on. Received the computer that I purchased from them and it had a bad power supply. Argued with them and it took 3 weeks after receiving the computer for them to issue me an RA and return shipping label, then another 3 weeks to get my refund.
I ordered 3 htc Evo views from them all came flawless. Also ordered 32gb cards a bunch of other things from then with no issues. Hope everything works out in your favor...

I've dealt with 1saleaday on numerous occasions. They may be slow about sending stuff, but I've always received what I ordered. Willing to be they've got someone nefarious in their warehouse/shipping partner chain. Hope it all works out for you!

And its all good.
but while packing the rest of the stuff back in the box, i thought of
something. I think its not THOSE websites they are screwing people.
But their packaging department people probably trying to get away
with some stuff if they could, while packing.
Any way, I thank God that so far I have bought a lot of stuff from
these websites and never had any problem.

I second this.
This thread should be locked. The merchant is very reputable and who tells us you didnt just tale the device sell it in the blackmarket. Ive never had problems with them and they dont care about stealing a $550 device+they have sold almost 1000galaxy notes nobody has complained
