anybody getting the G Pad 8.3 based on their G2 experience? - G Pad 8.3 General

I was hell bent on an ipad mini. I have always been an Apple guy. I hate lag and Android has never been a perfect experience for me but this phone completely changed me. I can't wait until the tablet comes out. I'm all over it. With the new Kindle's, ipad's and galaxy's coming out i can't imagine the wait will be much longer. I'm really hoping for a $299 price point as money is tight and if doable they will sell a lot of these. The 8 inch galaxy tab 3 is a perfect screen size for me but the resolution and bloated colors sucked. Nexus 7 2 is nice but just too small and i like a 16:10 ratio much better in portrait
Tell Scott we will be wanting that clean rom LOL!

I have and love this tablet
I ordered the LG Gpad 8.3 the day it came out and actually got it in October. It runs great, has good battery life, an excellent screen and I like the size. I am also using my Gpad as a complete remote replacement for my home system. I am currently running...
My LG Plasma TV
Denon Receiver
U-Verse Cable Box
Mouse and Keyboard Replacement
Foobar Server remote for music.
This is a vast improvement over the 3 remotes and keyboard I was using.
I'm coming from a Nexus 7 and consider the Gpad 8.3 an upgrade

To answer the question directly I do have the LG G2 for T-Mobile and love it! Probably better than the Nexus 5 (I'm a phone whore)

Bought the G Pad based on my LG Optimus G experience. Never going back to HTC!

How were you able to set up the receiver? I haven't been able to use it for anything other than my TV. My cable box isn't even supported. I would love to use my G Pad as a remote replacement, but it's very limited compared to the G2's remote functions.

I got the G Pad because I loved my Verizon G2. I wasn't sure how the G Pad would stack up given it uses the 600 instead of the 800, but I think LG did a great job of optimizing the software because my G Pad feels just as snappy as my G2.

Maybe the Denon's got a network control interface also?
I was disappointed with the gpad remote while I had it, coming from a Samsung device. That remote lets third-party devs talk to it (apparently the gpad doesn't) but one thing that's interesting - I have a streaming media player that can be controlled either over the network or over IR. So the gpad could, in theory, run the TV over IR and that box over the network.
There's no solution for my receiver, though, it's too old to have a network handoff.

I purchased both the G2 and G Pad without having seen or touched either. I pretty much based it on how much I liked the OG Pro. Hopefully, I haven't set myself up for disappointment.

For those of us who like the 8" form factor, the only options before this bad boy were the Galaxy note 8 and Galaxy tab 3. This tablet is by far the best in its category right now.

Hi guys. Just a quick question for me being on the fence whether to get the GPad or the nexus 10 which is the same price right now.
Which one would you choose if the price is similar?
I'm kind of an LG type of guy tbh.
Thanks for your help and advice!

For me, that is an "apples to oranges" comparison as screen size makes a huge difference. I was strictly looking for a sub-10inch tablet, of which the G pad is one of the best out there right now.

Well that's clear. Considering the price tag I guess I'll have to test them both out in the open and see which one fits my needs better.

I got the Nexus 10 on launch, I had multiple issues with the screen and went through 5 replacements before giving up.
Also the gpu was far from capable at driving the high res display, it is a laggy tablet.

Can this tablet share media using a Samsung all share dongle?

I'm not sure about the first question, but it does have dlna and if you have an LG tv with MiraCast you can use that as well. It does have a SmartShare feature also, but I don't have an LG tv so I don't know which feature does what.

Traded my Optimus G Pro (got $159.50) @ Best Buy for the G Pad. It reminds me EXACTLY of the LG O G Pro but bigger, which is perfect because ONCE I got the LG G2, I didn't really need TWO 5+ inch phones, but T-Mo only wanted to give me about $70 bucks, so I was like, heck with that, i'll use BOTH...lol Then L G G Pad came out and I was like, oh I NEED this....lol
Loving it so far, haven't experienced even one issue that anyone I've seen has, I will admit it surprised me that LG crippled their Remote , because they don't USUALLY do that, (I even have their new little F3, ($99.00 Metro PCS phone running on T-Mo, and that thing packs more punches than any phone under 350 bucks i've seen, they didn't skimp on one feature, even has VuTalk -and yes! I am The Original LG Fangirl : ) but honestly, I don't ever see myself wanting to wield a 8.3 inch remote PLUS I have the real remotes & also the LG G2's remotes...

Optimus G, G2 and G Pad
I was very impressed with the original Optimus G. And when I saw the G2 was the first phone that I could get with the Snapdragon 800, I bought it. It's a very impressive phone. I like it better than the Galaxy S3 and S4 (which I also own)
So when the G Pad was offered, I looked into it because I'm very dissatisfied with all the issues I've had with the Nexus 7 (2013 version).
Very satisfied with this tablet. The LG Flagship products really kick ass and go mostly unnoticed by the media.
Did you know: Quite a bit of the LG G Pad 8.3's "bloatware" can actually be uninstalled?? Programs like Polaris Open Office, etc can actually be uninstalled. Not just disabled. This is awesome! Keep kicking ass LG!!

So you're saying you were unsatisfied with the N7? I guess that is a major point here. I'm also really fond of the 3 LG phones that currently reside in my house. Guess that post of yours might just make my decision which currently involves N7, N10 and GPad8.3 much easier.

I had the N10 for 8 months and was very irritated with the random reboots and screen freezing several times a day, and that's not an exaggeration. I've had my G Pad for about a month and it has yet to freeze or crash, plus it's more portable easier to hold, and has a micro ad card slot. No buyers remorse here at all.

Yes I'm unsatisfied with the N7 2013. My unit randomly reboots several times per day. It's been to the Asus North America service center for repair but the rebooting has not changed. In all fairness, I don't think the rebooting issue is widespread but I'm stuck with a useless unusable tablet and therefore cannot recommend it in good faith.
Maybe 4.4 KK will alleviate the problem.
In any event, having the G Pad, I don't miss the N7 at all.

Hi guys, so ever since the N7 came out I've been closely looking at it. The iPad 3 is a beast, great apps and whatnot, but honestly, apple has left a sour taste in my mouth, they discontinued this model!!!!! After 8 MONTHS!!!!!!! So what do you guys think?

Not a question we can answer.
Go to a store and try out the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 (when available) and see how you like it.
Google tablet specs are great, but tablet choice is really a lot of personal preference.

Hi there
I have the iPad 3 which is great but its boring,,, I now have a nexus 7 which also great and fun to use,
I think its a matter of choice, I think that if the nexus 10 is as good as the nexus 7
I think it will be bye bye iPad 3 ....
Lol anybody mind sharing their own experience with it? Battery life, performance etc...

I consider performance and battery life to be excellent on my Nexus 7.
It is a device I carry every where.
It is the first thing I use in the morning (before getting out of bed) and the last thing I use at night.
And I don't see how any of that is of any use to you. You are not me.

Actually it was only 7 months. The nexus 7 is an excellent device, from a consumers point of view. Cheap, powerful, high resolution compared to some of its competitors and has a very high bang for your buck ratio. From the presses point of view, its not an Apple device so don't buy it.

For me, the N7 is the best tablet. I ordered mine for my birthday, I rooted it after 2 days just to confirm it worked and all. For the hardware and the Google experience, its hands down THE BEST. That is my opinion. I use it more than I use my phone. Plus I have a Nexus phone which got me sold on getting a Nexus 7 tablet.

At home we have an iPad and our smartphones have all been Android. And I'm now considering an Nexus 7 tablet for my 10-y-old daugther's Xmas
To answer your question, I'd say it really depends on your ultimate usage of the device. In my opinion, iPad really beats Android on its much wider offer of games, kids games, education apps and kids interactive books... If you're not game-oriented, especially kid-games oriented, then give-up your iDevice for an Android device (the Nexus 7 seems great)... because on all other aspects i believe Android is superior...
The other point you should be taking care of is the screen size: The Nexus 7 is more comparable to a iPad mini... moving from an iPad 3 to a Nexus 7 might feel a bit frustrating... you may be considering a Nexud 10 or another 10" tablet

Looks like Google will be discontinuing the nexus 7 8gb after only about 4 months. People who bought the 8 gb should be mad at Google and all the people who bought the 16gb for $249 in July should also be mad at Google for dropping the price by $50.
I have both the iPad 3 and Nexus 7. Love the Apple hardware and incredible battery life (especially standby), but don't like the restrictions and closed os. Liking the android os more and more, and the nexus 7 is a great piece of hardware, so good that apple is scared to death. If you want a smaller tablet nexus 7 is a great choice. However, the "old" iPad 3 is still one of the best big tablets on the market. It may be discontinued but it is far from being a dinosaur. I would say buy the nexus 7 and after a month if you find you aren't using you iPad anymore, you can still sell it for a good price.
Im also a recent "shifter" with ipad and iphone being my 2 devices i always carried around with me, as many others im getting of apple, not so much because of feeling limited (all my devices are jailbroken) but because after so many years on little change in their system, it's just plain getting BOORING, so this time i thought i jump the android boat!
WOOHOO! nexus 7!
the first week or so i still carried my ipad with me in my bag, but it stayed there! - in my bag lol, i don't use it anymore, nothing i could do on that i can't do on nexus 7, im also a tech dude (is i was a fairy i would be a tinker fairy), so i enjoyed all the things i could do and CHANGE like i wanted, of course the first thing was to root it and install custom firmware, not because it was needed but because i could
for me, the nexus 7 is so much better than ipad, but as i said i also love to tinker with my devices a LOT, for kids on the other hand, i think ipad's are more "safe" and easy to use.
the only 2 (well 3) things i noticed from the beginning, and got a little disappointed about is battery life and no microphone pins in the audio jack (can't use a microphone in iphone headset), but disabling the wifi when sleeping made a huge change in that department, and the microphone problem i solved using a BT dongle that has microphone it it, and normal audio jack for any headset (Jabra Clipper), 3rd thing would be the fact that there's no way of expanding the internal storage, but i survive with having lots of cloud services + a usb otg cable with a 32gb memory stick in
but as others here also say, you have to try and make your own discovery and judgement, this is just my experience, i love it and im never going back, already dreaming of replacing my iphone with nexux 4
and by the way, my first task with the nexus was to be able to do anything i did with the ipad, and i succeeded! + a lot more
hope it helped a little, but go try it, you will never let it leave your hands again

i came from the note 3.
i've owned all three note phones, and each one has gotten much better than the last one. the note 3 had battery life that made me stick with it, until i found the G2 w/ its huge battery. getting 4-5h of screen on time, which is slightly less than what i had on the note 3.
the size of the G2 really sold me. it's thing, edge to edge screen, and the camera quality is close enough that i don't miss anything. in fact, i still think the camera on the htc one is my favorite. i don't think you'll miss anything from the note 3, unless the s-pen is a deal breaker for you.
additionally, LG's software tweaks are intuitive and helpful, IMO. the note 3 just has too many bells and whistles, most of which are more time consuming for me to learn and use well. and this is coming from someone who really likes more features. i think samsung is just throwing in the kitchen sink in its software approach. the G2 adds value with its tweaks, samsungs proposition... i'm not so sure. and touchwiz is starting to look VERY dated.
I did. I was looking to upgrade from my Note 2 but the G2 was released a few days before it. Had the G2 until the Note 3 ws released and kept it until about 2 weeks ago. I then traded that Note 3 for a Moto X and some cash. A few days ago, I traded the Moto X for the G2.
I will say that for starters, I liked the Moto X a lot more than I thought I would. As of right now, it's probably one of the best Android phones I've used and definitely in my top 3 (Droid 1, Note 2, Moto X). It's underspec'd compared to everything else I've used but I just love the user experience of it all. I'm actually still debating on dumping the G2 for another Moto X.
Anyway, as far as the Note 3 It's a nice phone and one of the best Samsung has made. My problem with the Note 3 was that
A) Touchwiz has way too much crap going on now. I used a near stock ROM on my Note 2 so it's odd for me to say this but I actually got sick of TW on the Note 3. They really need to update and streamline this IMO. The S-Pen works a lot better than the Note 2 so if you like such features, you can't beat this phone. The G2 has some really annoying UI features too but it's a slight step down to how the Note was. Very slight.
B) The more I used the Note 3, the more I hated to hold it. I thought the Note 2 was really nice to hold. Yeah it was big but I really didn't have any problems with it. The Note 3 is more squared off and just felt bleh after a while. The G2 is a lot better to hold and surprisingly the battery life is better than the Note 3, depending on which review you read of course.
I don't miss the Note 3 at all and I think I'm officially done with Samsung phones too. I'm getting to the point to where I just want to use my phone without having to ROM and take off bloat but at the same time I want a little bit more. I think this is why I liked the Moto X so much. It's not as vanilla as a Nexus but it has just enough tweaks to make it unique. The G2 is pretty much the same way I would say.
I had a Note 3 for two weeks before returning it, mainly due to Knox stuffs and I agree with just about everything phobic99 said above. With that said, I'm on Sprint Sero, meaning I can only upgrade directly through Sprint, and the Note 3 was $372.74 after taxes, while I managed to pick the G2 for FREE Monday.
As a previous Note 2 owner, I feel the G2 is better than the Note 3 (G2 feels much snappier imo), but considering the G2 was free, it was a no brainer.
I definitely use to be a Samsung whore lol, and I don't miss a single thing about about the Note 3. I also didn't think I'd enjoy on-screen buttons, but after two days of using the G2, pushing the home button my Note 2 feels horrible in comparison.

If the G2 had ext sd support and no on screen buttons it would be pretty much perfect.

Note 3 to nexus 5 to g2
It just made sense
I had the note 3, liked it a lot, but had software issues, crashed often,so replaced, my daughter also has the same problem with hers, i have found the signal, battery and software better than the note 3.we have the note 2, s4 and note 3 at home and i prefer the G2.
I got the note 3 on Sprint on day one release, took it back six days later and waited for the g2.
The size issue I have with the Note3 is that it was to large for a phone and to small for a tablet. I wanted it bigger.
And then their is the over-saturated colours even on the "Pro" setting. Touchwiz (FUGLY)
The only thing I wish I would have waited on is the LG Flex. It's like a bigger G2.
For me the G2 is damn near perfect.
I am in a big dillema, should i go with the Note 3 or the G2. It seems that the G2 somwhow outdo the Note 3 and offers some pretty useful features. One of them is the On-Screen, where you can control your phone from your computer directly..... looks and sound awesome. Cant wait to try it out ))
Can't you always I that through avd

So, what you think that to go with the G2 is the better option ? I am only tempted for the note because of the S-pen, I am a student and probably this will be an useful addition to me. Although, the G2 offers a very quick way to open the memo and start typing even with fingers...... What do you guys think ?

Honestly, I'd say the best way to decide is to try them both for a few days. I know this isn't an option for a lot of people but most stores have at least a small return policy. The S-pen is really really handy so if you think you'd find that useful, then the Note 3 is the obvious choice here. For everything else, I'd go with the G2 personally.
Don't forget the option to use foldable bluetooth keyboard & bluetooth mouse to type.....This feature alone has helped me many times

From one side, I want a note 3 because i know that the updated TW which is expected to be soon, will be something very very impressive without any doubt and tbh i am little afraid that LG is a smaller company and wont be on the level on which Sammy is.... So if we look for a future safety dont you think that the note 3 is the best pick ?
LOL i should have just responded to this thread instead of starting a new one, but here goes.
I was a Note 3 preorder guy. I had the phone for 3 weeks....
AND. I sold it to pick up the new white Verizon G2.
The Note 3 was a HUGE disappointment!
The device feels terrible in the hand, with its sharp edges.
Using it outside when the wind blows it wants to fly out of your hands like a sail,
One handed operation, when your sitting down on the crapper is impossible, you cant make that thumb stretch without dropping it.
Touchwiz is really annoying with all kinds of crap constantly popping up in your face. my magazine, searches, bla bla bla.
The Note 3 is overly bloated and feels slow.
The Spen, its cool for about a week, then the Novelty wears off. and you never use it again. (the Spen DOES make 100% sense on the 10.1 2014 tablet which we have however, just need to ditch the TW.)
The external speaker AND the phone speaker are TERRIBLE on the Note 3. No good volume or clarity, a tinny sound and phone call volume never high enough if you cant hear the other party. Even with all the mods out bump the volume it makes it sound worse.
The USB 3 connecter is huge and ugly and I never noticed any difference.
Samsungs continued KNOX and other locking shenanigans. this should be the #1 reason to stay away.. lol
DEVELOPMENT! Development on the Note 3 due to Samsungs Garbage software is a complete hilarious JOKE.
The VZW section for instance has 3 lousy threads! No LOKI. etc. so no kernels. and the Devs who were working on those 3 threads were just doing it for the Bounty money or as a favor.
I could go on and on with my experience about the Note 3. It was a huge letdown.
After I got the Note 3, I started to see the G2 development community really start heating up, and caught my eye.
I come from an Old Galaxy Nexus, and used PGM/touch control for a knock on type wake and I loved it, once I saw "knock on"
on the G2 as a native feature it really piqued my interest.
I got my white vzw G2 on wednesday and I adore it, everything makes sense!
LG did a wonderful job with the stock rom. (there are a few small tweaks I would like such as better looking folders) but for the most part its
amazing.
The LG optimus UI has most of the features you see on custom roms.
it "feels" extremely light, not bloated or resource killing whatsoever.
**PERFORMANCE!
My G2 boots in 23seconds according to start up manager.
The device overall just feels so much more powerful and snappy.
Disk/File IO KILLS the Note 3, pulling up huge app lists, or in app manager, etc.. is instant.
The Note 3 stuttered and got stupid and would FC its own garbage apps, freeze up, etc.. Where the G2 is soo rock solid.
While, Granted the G2 has the shiny back it feels like a much more "premium" device, than the tacky East Asian style of the fake stitched back cover on the Note 3. The Note 3 fake leather back reminds me of those cheap fixtures in Chinese buffets that try to look "expensive"
Display: G2 hands down. I brought my Note 3 into the verizon store, and put both devices side by side both at 100% brightness in an extremely bright room. G2 colors look better, is clearer and more vibrant without the oversaturation. I swear the lcd panel draws faster than amoled, but idk..
Audio! - The phone speaker sounds great, first call I made I was like WOW! it can get extremely LOUD, but not in a screetchy ear bleeding way, in a full clear juicy big kind of way. External speaker sounds full and crystal clear, while the Note 3 speaker sounds very very tinny..
Audio over Bluetooth sounds much better in the car than the Note 3, again much more clearer and open.
Sorry: I prefer onscreen buttons. arrange the buttons in any configuration that tickles my fancy, I can also shrink down that Nav bar with g2 xposed to 60% from its original size while losing 0 of the functionality. With the Note 3 I was constantly bumping the capacitive buttons. and
the Home button is so heavy you have to slam your thumb on that button like a goon, its silly.
Development: Development on the G2 is smokin'! At this point Why buy a Nexus 5?
The G2 has got to be the easiest phone to root and install recovery on, you get more diverse variety of roms, utilizing LG UI and or hybrids of or straight up AOSP. but all on BETTER hardware and can be had for around the same price.
I can go on and on, But I'm loving the G2, and even the stock rom with tweaks.
The LG G2 This Is The Best Android Handset You Can Buy Right Now.
I know that many of my points could be argued otherwise, but as the dude says.

What do you think of Samsung's new tablets ?

Samsung just released their new tablets that 8 inch looks interesting to me depends on price however. How does it compare to gpad for you ?

Makes me question my gpad purchase but for the specs it might cost a lot more.

I'm still happy with my purchase and the deal I got on it ($259 USD via Newegg). The Samsung Pro 8.4 is the only one that makes me blink. Faster chip, good. Marginally larger battery to deal with the screen, bad. Touchwiz, higher resolution screen, meh. The G Pad, for its meager shortcomings, offers a heckuva lot of bang for the buck, at the price I got it anyway. Not regretting it!

Lol yeah I missed that deal I live in New jersey so payed tax $300 so if it's around $300 -$350 I would be all for it lol. My gpad comes tomorrow so well see I guess. It should have pretty good development support and accessories.

I feel the same. The 8.4 inch display model is pretty sweet.. Pricing may be a bit higher, so again.. I wouldn't buy it just cause of that. And the 3 hardware buttons on the front is a no go. It's old and I don't like it as much as having a blank screen where it's just me and the screen/movie/book.. The over all design looks good ol' fashion Samsung. Looks sturdy and has kindof a Galaxy S2 feel to it. The S2 was the best mobile phone I've ever had. Damn a lot of stuff happened back then. But yeah, looks like a decent tablet. But I think I'll be quite happy with the G Pad still, since it does have what I'm looking for in a nice, cheap package and decent build quality.

The Samsung Exynos 5 Octa CPU is a new gen processor which samsung tries to make it use all eight cores at once. If a tablet with that chip comes out it will surely be very powerful and definitely better than gpad.
As long as Samsung uses a home button i will never buy again.I'm very happy with the pad.
The new Touch Wiz looks really awful. I don't even know what they're thinking. It's like they want it to work and look like Windows 8 but don't want to use Windows 8. Personally I wouldn't touch the new tabs with a 10 foot pole.

I am an owner of note 10.1 2012 ..... I am looking up to
Change my tab as there is no updates for it at all ... Till now it is on version 4.1.2 and it is 100% guaranteed now after these pro tablets unveiled there will be no updates for the older devices ... I wont buy any of these new pro tablets because of the price firstly and in the future they will be thrown to the dust like my note 10.1 now ..... Also i am thinking of getting lg g pad 8.3 but no software updates like my current note and lack of dev support keeps me away
I'd be very surprised if the 8.4 was less than $399. I'm sure Samsung considers it to be fully equivalent to the newest iPad mini. Samsung used to compete on price but no more. When I bought my first plasma TV in 2007 Samsung was a much better deal than Panasonic or Pioneer. When it came time to buy another one last year I thought Samsung was too expensive and bought an LG I'm very happy with.

If they're "too perfect to root", no thanks.

Quite simply, I am going to switch to a Tab Pro 8.4 as soon as it is available.
It has a way better display, it has NFC (which I miss), it's way more powerful (G Pad is pretty slow), it has a polycarbonate back (I dislike the faux leather, I would much rather have a rubber back like the Nexus 7 2013 or the old Samsung HyperGlaze but anything is WAY, WAY better than effing METAL!!!!) and the Samsung one is the best version of Android around (MultiWindow *alone* would do it for me).
I can't wait to get my hands on it.
P.S. Actually, the ONLY reason I am interested in mid-sized tablets (8"/8.5") is WEIGHT.
Anything beyond 350/400 grams is simply too heavy to be ergonomic and truly comfortable for extended use.
The new Samsung Tab Pro 10.1" is 469grams and I am planning on trying it out with the intention of switching back to a 10.1"...
Ideally, my perfect tablet would be something like the Note Pro 12.2" but would weigh no more than 400 grams with an all-day battery life... (which is, of course, not technically possible. YET).

Pretty Slow? Try CM 11, Stock is slow. Switching from G Pad to Notepro 8.4 seems useless to me.
I am sort of disappointed that the G Pad is no longer the best 8 incher but it's still pretty great so its fine...
I doubt I will bite. I like my LG 8.3 GPE a lot. Samsung does this to me every year: announce something that captures my imagination, I'm intrigued, I convince myself it will be at a palatable price point, and then finally delivers something I consider too expensive and doesn't hit the sweet spot for my tastes.
I do own a Galaxy Note 10.1, and I love it. But the 2014 edition left me a bit cold.
I doubt I will dip into these waters again, probably just upgrading to a new Nexus 10 when the timing feels right.
I'm very happy with my G Pad and won't switch. If the Samsung 8.4 was available a couple of weeks ago at a competitive price I would have taken it, simply due to previous experience with both LG and Samsung phones. I like the idea of hard buttons on the bezel - means more screen space. There will also be more development on the Samsung tablets.

The G Pad with CM11 or the G Pad GPE are surely faster but you would have to give up, among other things, Knock On, the IR Remote and full SDcard support and those are huge deal breakers for me.
True, LG's ROM is most certainly slower and laggier than stock Android but it's also way more feature complete (which is probably also *why* is slower...). Features that I do use.
Besides the ones just mentioned, there are dozens of things like Quickmemo, the overlay apps (QSlide), the keyboard with the numbers row, the volume and brightness sliders and on and on...

As I said: way better display, NFC, way more powerful (while being even more feature rich), polycarbonate back, Samsung SW (MultiWindow above all).
I also forgot to mention that notwithstanding pretty much identical size and weight, the display is sensibly bigger on the Tab Pro as it's not only 0.1" physically bigger but it also doesn't have virtual buttons taking up screen real estate.
So, far from "useless"... The money I will lose selling the G Pad and buying the Tab Pro is really a very small price to pay for such a big upgrade.
P.S. I am not dissing my G Pad, still like it a lot and still think it's the overall best mid-size tablet on the market right now.
I have no intentions of switching as i really love this lg. I also suspect that these new Pro models will not be cheap. For my uses the lg is plenty fast and smooth. And since a tablet is just entertainment for me, there is only so much any tablet is worth and i bet these new Samsung tablets will exceed that price.

What Rom will it come with? I've learned to only buy with Qualcomm cpus because they get the best long-term support. There's a chance that the Qualcomm ones are only for lte support....

Great to hear you're not dissinf the G Pad!
You said switching to a notepro 8.4 would be a small price to pay, but you have no idea how much its going to cost. I bet at least 400.
BTW, knock on works just fine on CM 11. IR support is missing, haven't tried a SD card. Is it not going to work? Oh, and be sure the new bloated "pro" touchwiz will be slower than the lg rom.

Pulled the trigger on the Note PRO 12.2 today with FREE Keyboard

Happen to be at Best Buy and had always thought the the price was a bit high for the Note PRO 12.2. But today it was on sale, which by the way I was only going to get the 12.2 PRO. My wife said you might as well get the Note PRO for $649.99 and got the $129.99 Samsung keyboard for free. So far, really liking what Samsung has done with this Android tablet. I'm still a Windows user but this really comes close to what I need to get done.
I already tried using a Remote application to access my Surface Pro 2 tablet and works great. I haven't loaded the remote app that Samsung provides. I will continue to use this and test out for on the road use.
*Update: The FREE keyboard deal ended on May 29th.

I had a chance to try the Note Pro 12.2 at Best Buy (they didn't have a display unit but the Samsung rep had her personal tablet available to try). I was surprised by how much I liked it... I expected to be put off by the size. I went ahead and picked one up -- the extra screen real estate makes for a great inking experience with the S Pen.

I agree. Without trying it, you might think it is too big. When I first tested the Note PRO and the Tab PRO at CES, I really thought I would pick one up at some point. But I wanted the price to drop. I almost purchased when it had dropped $100 off, but with the FREE keyboard, made me get one.

I took the plunge on Saturday with the sale and free keyboard, which they had to order and should be in tomorrow. I'm liking it so far, although still trying to learn everything and take advantage of the size, pen, and processing power. Got the 32gb black wifi version.

Your post with the free keyboard (is it really a $130 value) made me pull the trigger as well. I will probably root it (basically so that I can put any app in the multi window). But does anybody know if rooting it would affect the screen mirroring?
edit: nvm I just saw the thread that speaks of a fix for the screen mirroring
It's good to see this sale has created such a following for the Note 12.2 on XDA. I wasn't paying much attention to tablet news recently and only accidentally came across the demo for the Tab 12.2 while shopping at Costco. I fell in love with the screen instantly, that was on Saturday and Thursday night I placed an order for the Note directly from Samsung. It's an expensive spontaneous purchase but it has everything I wanted when I tried but failed to like the Nexus 10. Firstly the screen is amazing, it has super battery life, expandable memory, multi-window and the processing power to do everything smoothly. I can't wait to get it, has anyone had the chance to use it on a plane yet? I'm wondering how well it fits on the tray.

Congratulations! I am going for about week using the Note PRO and so far it has met my needs for work and for home use. I got the email that my FREE keyboard was in at Best Buy yesterday but went today to pick up. Unfortunatley the black keyboard is on back order and Best Buy can't even order it. I got the white keyboard for now. The guy at the store said since I have 45 days to keep an eye once the black keyboard was in-stock, then I can exchange it. I am typing on the keyboard and typing is very good. I don't see any problem that would prevent you from using the keyboard to get some serious work done...
I was using the Note PRO to watch a movie the other night to my Samsung Plasma TV... Worked great! No wires.

I got the same sale but am I the only one that is returning tablet?
I just can not find enough reasons to keep it since I already have a powerful laptop and note 3. I am actually leaning towards a surface pro. Reasoning has to do with websites especially ones concerning my college as some websites load weird on the tab. Also even with keyboard its still awkward as it another item I have to keep around while I'm not typing which I want to do papers on this. But since the keyboard doesn't fit well when your using tablet but not keyboard kinda annoying opinions?

I find the Galaxy Note PRO to be able to get work done. Sure it won't replace my Surface Pro 2 but can get most of what I need done. For some this tablet just won't work because they require full Windows application or special programs. The new Surface Pro 3 is pretty much the same size as the Note PRO.

Beautiful, anyone else notice not using their tablet after LG G3?

New to XDA, but hopeful on this phone! Coming from a blackberry so its a definitely upgrade.
Got a Nexus 7 and ASUS Book T100, and I find myself using these devices less! I got one of those flexible long wire holder for the desk at home, and it works with the LG G3. Never thought a phone even at 5.5 inch would be adequate to replace those bigger devices, but this screen at 1440p is really amazing. On a trip right now and never open the laptop anymore.
Well 2 cents, this phone is a keeper!
Gave my daughter my N7 after getting my G2 with no regrets, the G3 is just that much better.
Now that you mention it, I haven't turned on my nexus 7 since I got this phone. It is the original 2012 model so the resolution is no match.
Lol, I thought I was the only one, I have an lg gpad and have not used it since getting the g3!

Sorry. Not me. Still have both my N7 and N10. The extra 1.5" of the N7 makes reading much easier on the eyes. And I use the N10 to stream videos in bed ;P

I have an iPad mini retina and I rarely touch it anymore. I Still use it but no where near as much when I had my 5s. The extra screen real estate is fantastic and its so much easier to read my emails and news in the morning. It's hard to put this thing down.
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.
I sold my Nexus 7 after a month when I had the LG Flex. I never really cared for tablets just phablets. Hehe
I still use my Nexus 7 before going to bed lol

Hardly use my tablet after getting my LG G Pro. Upgrading to a G3 doesnt change much of that.
Still use my Nexus 7 (2013) at night. But I don't touch my Tab Pro.
actually i just upgraded my g pad to galaxy tab s, and still have my g3. use my tablet for watching movies as i love its super amoled screen(even though its highly saturated as they say! ) also split my games on both my g3 and tab s. so tablet for me is still useful. no longer opening my laptop..
