Anyone came from a Note 3? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm tempted. I like my Note 3 but I like the size of the G2.

i came from the note 3.
i've owned all three note phones, and each one has gotten much better than the last one. the note 3 had battery life that made me stick with it, until i found the G2 w/ its huge battery. getting 4-5h of screen on time, which is slightly less than what i had on the note 3.
the size of the G2 really sold me. it's thing, edge to edge screen, and the camera quality is close enough that i don't miss anything. in fact, i still think the camera on the htc one is my favorite. i don't think you'll miss anything from the note 3, unless the s-pen is a deal breaker for you.
additionally, LG's software tweaks are intuitive and helpful, IMO. the note 3 just has too many bells and whistles, most of which are more time consuming for me to learn and use well. and this is coming from someone who really likes more features. i think samsung is just throwing in the kitchen sink in its software approach. the G2 adds value with its tweaks, samsungs proposition... i'm not so sure. and touchwiz is starting to look VERY dated.

I did. I was looking to upgrade from my Note 2 but the G2 was released a few days before it. Had the G2 until the Note 3 ws released and kept it until about 2 weeks ago. I then traded that Note 3 for a Moto X and some cash. A few days ago, I traded the Moto X for the G2.
I will say that for starters, I liked the Moto X a lot more than I thought I would. As of right now, it's probably one of the best Android phones I've used and definitely in my top 3 (Droid 1, Note 2, Moto X). It's underspec'd compared to everything else I've used but I just love the user experience of it all. I'm actually still debating on dumping the G2 for another Moto X.
Anyway, as far as the Note 3 It's a nice phone and one of the best Samsung has made. My problem with the Note 3 was that
A) Touchwiz has way too much crap going on now. I used a near stock ROM on my Note 2 so it's odd for me to say this but I actually got sick of TW on the Note 3. They really need to update and streamline this IMO. The S-Pen works a lot better than the Note 2 so if you like such features, you can't beat this phone. The G2 has some really annoying UI features too but it's a slight step down to how the Note was. Very slight.
B) The more I used the Note 3, the more I hated to hold it. I thought the Note 2 was really nice to hold. Yeah it was big but I really didn't have any problems with it. The Note 3 is more squared off and just felt bleh after a while. The G2 is a lot better to hold and surprisingly the battery life is better than the Note 3, depending on which review you read of course.
I don't miss the Note 3 at all and I think I'm officially done with Samsung phones too. I'm getting to the point to where I just want to use my phone without having to ROM and take off bloat but at the same time I want a little bit more. I think this is why I liked the Moto X so much. It's not as vanilla as a Nexus but it has just enough tweaks to make it unique. The G2 is pretty much the same way I would say.

I had a Note 3 for two weeks before returning it, mainly due to Knox stuffs and I agree with just about everything phobic99 said above. With that said, I'm on Sprint Sero, meaning I can only upgrade directly through Sprint, and the Note 3 was $372.74 after taxes, while I managed to pick the G2 for FREE Monday.
As a previous Note 2 owner, I feel the G2 is better than the Note 3 (G2 feels much snappier imo), but considering the G2 was free, it was a no brainer.
I definitely use to be a Samsung whore lol, and I don't miss a single thing about about the Note 3. I also didn't think I'd enjoy on-screen buttons, but after two days of using the G2, pushing the home button my Note 2 feels horrible in comparison.

I have both, best of both worlds.
If the G2 had ext sd support and no on screen buttons it would be pretty much perfect.

Note 3 to nexus 5 to g2
It just made sense

I had the note 3, liked it a lot, but had software issues, crashed often,so replaced, my daughter also has the same problem with hers, i have found the signal, battery and software better than the note 3.we have the note 2, s4 and note 3 at home and i prefer the G2.

I got the note 3 on Sprint on day one release, took it back six days later and waited for the g2.
The size issue I have with the Note3 is that it was to large for a phone and to small for a tablet. I wanted it bigger.
And then their is the over-saturated colours even on the "Pro" setting. Touchwiz (FUGLY)
The only thing I wish I would have waited on is the LG Flex. It's like a bigger G2.
For me the G2 is damn near perfect.

I am in a big dillema, should i go with the Note 3 or the G2. It seems that the G2 somwhow outdo the Note 3 and offers some pretty useful features. One of them is the On-Screen, where you can control your phone from your computer directly..... looks and sound awesome. Cant wait to try it out ))

Can't you always I that through avd

So, what you think that to go with the G2 is the better option ? I am only tempted for the note because of the S-pen, I am a student and probably this will be an useful addition to me. Although, the G2 offers a very quick way to open the memo and start typing even with fingers...... What do you guys think ?

Honestly, I'd say the best way to decide is to try them both for a few days. I know this isn't an option for a lot of people but most stores have at least a small return policy. The S-pen is really really handy so if you think you'd find that useful, then the Note 3 is the obvious choice here. For everything else, I'd go with the G2 personally.

Don't forget the option to use foldable bluetooth keyboard & bluetooth mouse to type.....This feature alone has helped me many times

Missing the Note III tbh

Can someone tell me, if he is using the note taking features on the G2 and how is it ? From one side, I want a note 3 because i know that the updated TW which is expected to be soon, will be something very very impressive without any doubt and tbh i am little afraid that LG is a smaller company and wont be on the level on which Sammy is.... So if we look for a future safety dont you think that the note 3 is the best pick ?

LOL i should have just responded to this thread instead of starting a new one, but here goes.
I was a Note 3 preorder guy. I had the phone for 3 weeks....
AND. I sold it to pick up the new white Verizon G2.
The Note 3 was a HUGE disappointment!
The device feels terrible in the hand, with its sharp edges.
Using it outside when the wind blows it wants to fly out of your hands like a sail,
One handed operation, when your sitting down on the crapper is impossible, you cant make that thumb stretch without dropping it.
Touchwiz is really annoying with all kinds of crap constantly popping up in your face. my magazine, searches, bla bla bla.
The Note 3 is overly bloated and feels slow.
The Spen, its cool for about a week, then the Novelty wears off. and you never use it again. (the Spen DOES make 100% sense on the 10.1 2014 tablet which we have however, just need to ditch the TW.)
The external speaker AND the phone speaker are TERRIBLE on the Note 3. No good volume or clarity, a tinny sound and phone call volume never high enough if you cant hear the other party. Even with all the mods out bump the volume it makes it sound worse.
The USB 3 connecter is huge and ugly and I never noticed any difference.
Samsungs continued KNOX and other locking shenanigans. this should be the #1 reason to stay away.. lol
DEVELOPMENT! Development on the Note 3 due to Samsungs Garbage software is a complete hilarious JOKE.
The VZW section for instance has 3 lousy threads! No LOKI. etc. so no kernels. and the Devs who were working on those 3 threads were just doing it for the Bounty money or as a favor.
I could go on and on with my experience about the Note 3. It was a huge letdown.
After I got the Note 3, I started to see the G2 development community really start heating up, and caught my eye.
I come from an Old Galaxy Nexus, and used PGM/touch control for a knock on type wake and I loved it, once I saw "knock on"
on the G2 as a native feature it really piqued my interest.
I got my white vzw G2 on wednesday and I adore it, everything makes sense!
LG did a wonderful job with the stock rom. (there are a few small tweaks I would like such as better looking folders) but for the most part its
amazing.
The LG optimus UI has most of the features you see on custom roms.
it "feels" extremely light, not bloated or resource killing whatsoever.
**PERFORMANCE!
My G2 boots in 23seconds according to start up manager.
The device overall just feels so much more powerful and snappy.
Disk/File IO KILLS the Note 3, pulling up huge app lists, or in app manager, etc.. is instant.
The Note 3 stuttered and got stupid and would FC its own garbage apps, freeze up, etc.. Where the G2 is soo rock solid.
While, Granted the G2 has the shiny back it feels like a much more "premium" device, than the tacky East Asian style of the fake stitched back cover on the Note 3. The Note 3 fake leather back reminds me of those cheap fixtures in Chinese buffets that try to look "expensive"
Display: G2 hands down. I brought my Note 3 into the verizon store, and put both devices side by side both at 100% brightness in an extremely bright room. G2 colors look better, is clearer and more vibrant without the oversaturation. I swear the lcd panel draws faster than amoled, but idk..
Audio! - The phone speaker sounds great, first call I made I was like WOW! it can get extremely LOUD, but not in a screetchy ear bleeding way, in a full clear juicy big kind of way. External speaker sounds full and crystal clear, while the Note 3 speaker sounds very very tinny..
Audio over Bluetooth sounds much better in the car than the Note 3, again much more clearer and open.
Sorry: I prefer onscreen buttons. arrange the buttons in any configuration that tickles my fancy, I can also shrink down that Nav bar with g2 xposed to 60% from its original size while losing 0 of the functionality. With the Note 3 I was constantly bumping the capacitive buttons. and
the Home button is so heavy you have to slam your thumb on that button like a goon, its silly.
Development: Development on the G2 is smokin'! At this point Why buy a Nexus 5?
The G2 has got to be the easiest phone to root and install recovery on, you get more diverse variety of roms, utilizing LG UI and or hybrids of or straight up AOSP. but all on BETTER hardware and can be had for around the same price.
I can go on and on, But I'm loving the G2, and even the stock rom with tweaks.
The LG G2 This Is The Best Android Handset You Can Buy Right Now.
I know that many of my points could be argued otherwise, but as the dude says.

Nexus 4 or Note 2 and why?

Im currently looking at both and just want to hear pros and cons like signal and any other issues all comments are much appreciated.
I own a Note 2, and just ordered the N4 for my wife, so I cant comment on the N4 yet. However, I believe it boils down to a handful of differences between them. They are both very, very smooth, very fast phones, so take that out of the equation.
1) Bigger vs smaller screen. I like the Note 2's ginormous screen.
2) Touchwiz vs JB as Google intended. I personally dont mind TW, and can always throw Nova on it if I get tired of it.
3) Updates. Samsung will take way longer obviously than Google. If you MUST have the newest right now, its a no brainer.
4) If using TMo, the Note 2 allows for WIFI calling. May be helpful to you.
5) S-Pen. A bit of a novelty, but kind of useful.
You missed the most important point: tablet-class battery. To borrow a car analogy, there's no replacement for displacement.

True, forgot about that. I can abuse the hell out of it and get 4+ screen time. Use it gingerly and approach 8.
I've owned both phones and honestly the Note 2 is great choice if you don't mind touchwiz and the larger size.
Note Pros:
It's gets more than double the battery life of the Nexus 4.
Beautiful, larger screen.
Touchwiz extras (wifi calling, multi-window mode, spen, gestures, etc)
Note Cons:
Slower rom development.
A bit too big to use one handed comfortably.
More expensive.
Bloated.
Nexus Pros:
WAY sexier and feels WAY better in hand.
Better development.
Half the price (unlocked)
No carrier bloat.
Nexus Cons:
Battery life not great compared to the note 2.
Speaker not as good.
The stock android on the N4 is nice and the screen size of the note is awesome. I think im leaning to the Nexus because of the Dev support keeps a phone new. Hows the call quality of both?
i'm in the same boat...i already have the n4 but i'm underwhelmed by it coming from the galaxy nexus. i know with the nexus you get the updates but custom roms like cm10 will come along for the note2. another big advantage for the note2 is the expandable storage. otg doesn't even work for the n4
I prefer the N4 as a PHONE, but as a more media-consumption-driven device, the Note 2 would beat it. The N4 is easier in-pocket and in-hand. The Note 2 would be better for reading, video, content creation.
Obviously, I chose the N4 over a Note 2. I prefer the smaller screen (and it's by no means small IMO), the pure or easily customizable Android (I had a Samsung phone before, TouchWiz can eat it), and the ability to jump to essentially any GSM network.
I have both. Initially i preferred my note 2 but now im used to the n4 screen, i much prefer it. To me, the note 2 screen doesnt seem as crisp as n4 & whilst the note w is fast, the n4 seems alot snappier in everyday use for myself.
Obviously watching youtube etc is great on the note 2 due to the real estate of the screen & i find the s pen relly handy & samsung did a cracking job of touchwiz on this device but ive grown to prefer the n4 as my daily driver & the note 2 is going on ebay this weekend!
Hope it helps.
Arguably the two best phones on the market right now. Its always a personal choice cause we all like different things on our phones but major pros of both phones are:
For nexus 4,
PRICE!!!! Pentaband, pure android, no bloatware and you get updates soon as its available. On top of that development is always great on nexus devices. Also more "portable" than note 2, and better screen. Both perform well without any lag so performance is pretty much even.
For Note 2,
INCREDIBLE BATTERY LIFE! I can't emphasize it enough, it truly is something else, ive never seen a smartphone perform so well in that area. More features, S pen has amazing things like air view, more storage, bigger screen means better for media consumption (movies, games blah blah) but size can be a con for some however when you go purchase the note 2 the size is obvious so there's no excuse to complain about it when its so obvious.
Bottom line is both phones are great, but honestly in a long run, a Nexus ALWAYS has the edge because of the support it gets. If you're like me, that does not matter a bit cause I switch smart phones more often than I go to the movies (and its not a joke ).
The galaxy nexus is still relevant to this day, it just received android 4.2.1 while for example, the galaxy s 2 is slowly becoming a retired phone.

imho the Note is not a phone, I have had the first model just to use it as a digital block notes, and it's cool for that, but please don't think to use it as a phone becouse is heavy and huge, you could use it for some Emergency call, but not as a everyday phone...

I still on the fence on this i had the 1st note and the galaxy nexus both were great. I dont have LTE in my area with AT&T yet so thats not really an issue so can i use the N4 as a dumb phone on at&t.

N4 has a better CPU/GPU and can be operated 1 handed plus it's pure google and has on screen buttons.
but the note 2 has cool touchwhiz features but it's bloated and too big for 1 handed use.
I have an S3, but have considered switching to the N4, I just cant find the motivation though... will the Quad Core give me that much of a real world NOTICEABLE speed difference? and why does the N4 appear to have a yellow tint to its screen? I also worry about potential quality issues.

i believe that is temporary...just the glue drying - will go away in a week or so.
I came from an S3 and couldn't be happier. The phone does feel a bit faster than my S3 did. Battery life is about the same, the S3 might have been a little better. The only thing I miss about the S3 is the SD card slot, but Google music has me covered.

How is the screen size difference? is it real noticeable? and does Netflix, Youtube and videos in general Full Screen?
Is the Yellow Tint really just glue drying? that doesn't make much sense to me.
Between the 2 the Note 2 is easily a better phone. Being a media hog my self I love the huge screen and its beautiful. Also love the design.
Anybody having issues using the N4 on att non-smartphone plan can att tell the difference i really like not having to pay for another smartphone on my family plan.

Note 3 day one buy features

I've been wondering what, if announced, would make the Note 3 (or any other phone) a day 1 buy for me.
There's always the incremental MORE/LESS stuff - more screen, less weight, blah blah blah
The note 2 is good enough that I don't consider any of that to be a strong selling point.
Has technology/innovation peaked? What features could/would make the Note 3 a 'must buy'
for Note 2 owners (versus the expected 'guess I'll wait for the Note 4)? Or from a business
perspective, would could make people who were uninterested in the Note 3 interested in the Note 2?
I don't think the S4 won over any S3 haters.
The only recent interesting things I've seen are:
wireless charging
unbreakable screen
Metallic body (which I personally don't care about, but it sure is making the HTC One hot stuff)
All of the above I'd love, but nothing I'd sell my Note 2 to get.

I want to go mad with power lol.
Octa Core!
The hardware technology is close to peaking, I think. Flexible screens are just a marketing gimmick for me, and better radios aren't really new tech but refinements of what we already have. Screens are either unbreakable but not unscratchable, or unscratchable but not unbreakable. As for power -- every week we read about how this or that development will give us vastly more powerful batteries (rechargeable in 30 seconds, no less) but the problem is, they've been saying that for the past six or seven years and we're still stuck with the same old Li-Ion technology. Wireless charging still means leaving the phone on some device or other to charge -- only you don't plug it in. Now if my phone's battery would start charging as soon as I walked in the door, I might sit up and take notice.
The only innovations that would give me an incentive to buy a new device (the Note 99, maybe?) on day 1 would be either 128GB or more of storage without a huge increase in price, or a change in Android specs to allow apps to be stored and run from external cards. Not allowing apps to run from external storage has got to be one of Google's more short-sighted ideas, given that each Android iteration, not to mention manufacturer and carrier overlays, seems to eat more and more of available storage space for its own use.

Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Note 2
Galaxy Note 8.0
in my country, note 2 now is about 30% cheaper compared to when it was launched. if thats the case in your area and since you are still satisfied with your note2, id wait for a few months until it gets cheaper before buying. as a bonus the official rom you buy might be more stable the the 1st release.
For me, personally, it would have to be a huge increase in onboard storage (I'm thinking 128GB minimum). Also, I would prefer a dedicated micro-HDMI port, instead of crappy MHL. These two things would make me get the GN3 on release day, but if not, I'll stick with my GN2 for the time being.
1080p, Exynos Octa w/LTE, more storage...yeah, I'm probably going to get it at launch. Those are enough to excite me.

Frontal stereo speakers, Adreno 330, Snapdragon 800, metal body, 1080p 64 GB storage... these things are desirable, but still probably wouldn't buy it... and definately not on day one. Just recently got my Note 2
More likely when I switch, it will be to the Note 4... or perhaps some nice HTC/Sony. Maybe even a Nokia EOS, if such a thing ever breaks free from the rumorland....
I want a note 3 with all s4 features minus lag, screen tint and smearing issues (realistic wish list). It would be enough for a year at least. I would prefer a screen of 5.7 inch max, but it should never go beyond 6.0. The battery should be around 4000MAh. I don't care about body but design at least should not be carbon copy of note 2/s4. The minimum storage should be 32gig.
Larger screen without increasing the body size.
Larger battery, and I don't mind making the body slightly thicker either. For me battery life is more important than have it be under 11mm. I think 12mm is fine.
HD display, without a doubt.
SPen upgrade. I love the current generation, but if they can't make it any better then that'll be fine by me.
Next generation processor which I'm sure will be in there.
An awesome camera This one is good, but not that good. I'd much prefer something better.
I think that's it! If they add on a capacitive home button and an extra gig of ram I'm sold.
Thinner, lighter, better battery, full hd and 13mpix camera at least (or better if they can squeeze it). Battery life is fine with me. Processing power I don't care about anymore (it's plenty enough already).

Do you guys really want to struggle with Samsung's rooting/custom kernel issues, flash counters, root trackers, CyanogenMod incompatibilities?

Samsung will never set 32gb as minimum storage. They rather will cut it even more (like in galaxy s4).
Have to say I am impressed with my Note2 so far the best Android phone Ive had. Its the only phone I have not had to tamper with to make it faster. I did root it but no custom rom. Never had it die on me, been using it close to a year now and it still amazes me. Awesome device. The Note 3 would have to be significantly better to justify an upgrade. I agree with with what someone hasmentioned already, i believe we have reached a peak now....and only encremental changes will come. Else if they do decide to go all out with the Note 3...we will all be guinea pigs....like with the first samsung galaxy s.with the note 2 we have the perfect balance between battery life and performance. I still carry a spare battery around...just incase.

[Q] Hard to decide between Note 3 and Nexus 5

Hi guys,
I am having some serious thoughts on what to get... Basically I am a software developer and I have a Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy S1 some ond Xperia and a Nexus 7. It is time for me to switch to a new device as my daily driver. The options I have are Galaxy Nexus 5 and the Note 3. The Note 3 is more expensive with around 150$ in my country, considering the type of contract I am getting. The phone will be used for at least one year.
Nexus 5: well, no review yet. Price is reasonable in my country and has the new 4.4. The new android version doesn't impress me. To be honest I find the google experience pretty boring but I have to admit I liked receiving fast updates on my Nexus.
Note 3: I have been reading around the forum for the last days. I saw that many have problems with the home button, the battery life, the screen issues. I like the s-pen features but I am not sure how much I'll use them.
What advice do you give me ? What should I get ?

i have galaxy note 3 but if i time returns i will choose nexus 5
Please mention your reasons. It would help me a lot. Thanks
I'm using note 3 at the moment and my nexus 5 is on its way to me, will give more accurate impression once received.
Features I prefer nexus 5 over note 3
Design look and feel (massive improvement)
No TW bloatware (another massive factor)
Easier to carry around
More regular software updates kat 4.4
No lag freezing (hopefully)
Features I will miss coming from note 3
camera not impressed at all (will miss that the most)
4k video recording
Battery life
S-pen (just a little)
Multi screens (what a feature)
Large screen
Ext memory
Have you encountered any problems with the Note 3 ? Does it lag ? Do you have that effect on low brightness for dark borders ? How does TW bloatware affect you ?
Battery wise note has 50%more juice. Home button issues - do you mean the button moving around? It is not a problem, people are too much complaining about tiny tiny things they should never find unless they read about it.
Camera - i think nexus5 is way better than n3. Its not the pixels that matter, or software options. Nexus 5 camera is next level, focus is about 10 times faster.
Bloatware yes, samsung puts 700mb of bloatware that you dont receive on nexus. Not sure if anything of that is usable. But cyanogenmod should arrive soon!
I wish note3 had the new camera and with optical stabilization, then it would be perfect!
As for 4.4 - its just a number. There will definitely arrive new android versions fast on the n3, just that you have to flash it yourself and void the warranty.

I like Nexus because:
- The design of the device and the appearance of the UI is more appealing to me. I like to keep things on my phone looking pretty "minimalistic" with few colors and lots and lots of black. I absolutely hate the Touchwiz cartoony look and I always change everything about it, the process starts immediately on first boot of the phone. Everything about Touchwiz looks awful - the icons, the menus, the choices in colors, those horrible big green quick settings toggles in the notification bar. Stock Android is much much better when it comes to looks. The Nexus 5 and its software looks like it's been designed by a design team made up of adults who actually make cohesive decisions together. Touchwiz looks to me like the school project of a pre-school class where everyone can add their favorite color and everyone gets to participate and add their touch to the design. Little Johnny wants a big blue, round icon there - OK let's put it right next to Jenny's rectangular pink icon there and add Lisa's green toggles! Fun for everybody.
I like Note 2/3 because:
- The battery is bigger. I've never been this satisfied with battery life.
- The screen is bigger. Honestly after using the Note 2, I cringe every time I use my iPhone 4 (I keep it as my spare phone) or my wife's Galaxy S III. The displays are so tiny, I don't think I could go back. Not even to a 5" display.
- I don't like the on screen nav buttons of stock Android. I want the physical menu, home and back buttons.
- The S-Pen. I'm not a heavy S-Pen user but it has really nice features on the Note 3. I use it much more with my Note 3 than I did with my Note 2.
- Memory card slot. Seriously. I could not live without one.
- Removable battery - not a big reason but nonetheless it is nice.
I hate the Note 2/3 because:
- I get to a point where I'm never satisfied with the ROM I use. New stuff is released on XDA and I feel this pressing need to try other ROMs. All the time. Sometimes it seems all I do with my phone is restoring backups. With the Nexus I think that I would be more easily able to just stick with one ROM.. Maybe even the stock ROM, just rooting it.
Don't listen to them
I just bought Note 3 after using Note 2 for couple of months
And go for Note 3 believe me this is the beast .. Note 3 Snap dragon
I am in the same boat as op.
I have a s2 now for 3 years and looking for an upgrade.
Minimum 5 inch screen, preferably a tad bigger.
Key feature should be office workability, due to a upcoming promotion as a project manager.
So I need info from all sorts of documents on the fly. Including excel.
Does the note provide this?
For free time I love playing games and viewing movies.
Help appreciated.

U may have to wait for few weeks to get the full hands on review about this. Nexus 5. The specs r good. But we don't know about battery life, camera performance, and heating issues. Note 3 is good in these areas.

I am planning on using the Note 3 with stock firmware from Samsung... because of warranty issues of knox trigger. This would also help on trying to reproduce bugs that appear on TouchWiz platform easier. So, having stock on Note3 sucks performance wise ?

Perhaps wait for nokia lumia 1520.
That's ideal for such mundane tasks. Lol

Note 3 is far better then note 2 for sure but is it the best ow no. It's a beast but not the best.
If i didn't have the Note 3 already i would be pretty tempted to buy the Nexus 5. It's half the price, here, with great hardware, Kit Kat, Google updates, etc. But those touch buttons (why?) on the screen are a no no for me.
Thank you all for replies. After doing a lot of reading on the Buyers remorse thread I see that most of note3 users are happy. The only notable problems are: very weak audio output because of the small speaker, the pink effect around black edges on low brightness settings and the wobbly home button. Also I see that the battery isn't so great.
I am really thinking what to get, as I said, the difference would be around 150$ in price.
If I didn't have N3 already I would have the N5. I had N4 previously.
N3 has plus and minus points.
+ points
Battery Life - best I ever had
SD Card - installed 64GB,some users have install 128GB.
Big Screen - I like the screen some don't like AMOLED colors.
Fastest CPU & 3GB RAM
Multi Window & Pen Window
IrDA port - can control devices from my phone.
- points
Design - not very stylish
Build quality - my back cover already creaks only 1 month old. Others have experienced Home button and screen/multi touch issues
External Speakers - embarrassing from Samsung.
Samsung bloatware - unnecessary
Wireless Charging - not built in but @ extra cost

Costum ROM
why wouldn't you just wait on xda to get pure 4.4 android and install that ROM on your note 3 ?
Hi,
the Google Nexus 5 is indeed a very good phone. Having switched from Nexus 4 to Galaxy Note 3 I can basically give you good explanations.
The Galaxy Note 3 has plenty more features than the Google Nexus 4 abd 5 which is great.
I would say the Note 3 wins everywhere against the Nexus unless you tell me you prefer smaller screen. In my case, the screen size was the reasob why I moved.
On the otherside, yes there are a lot of Samsung apps and that sucks to me. The Galaxy Note 3 can be rooted easily, so you can easy remove those bloatwares which make me feel more confortable that way.
On the other hand, I do prefer the PURE Androis that the Google Nexus has to the TouchWiz by Samsung because it uses way less resources.
The perfect phone for me would be a Note 3 with a AOSP Rom. (CyanogenMod or Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) because it would give the pure android feeling which means higher battery life, no bloatwares, faster updates.
Ok guys, some N5 reviews have appeared and to be honest, things don't look that good in battery and camera departments. Actually that was kinda expected considering the 2300 mAh battery and 1080p screen.
Now back to note 3, all the small things that bothered me (wobbly home button, pinkish black borders, bloatware) are not important anymore. The things that worries me most is the screen burn in. I saw some reviews where this is mentioned (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3mbkoXCMhs&feature=em-uploademail from 19 minute). I have own so far a Galaxy S1 and a Galaxy Nexus both having amoled screens. On my GNex sometimes I can see the keyboard shadow after using it, but I haven't really noticed any permanent retention as it goes off after a few seconds. I just did a quick check with blue color all over the screen and I can see a very faint shadow of the top bar, but nothing really noticeable. BUT, I use the phone on auto brightness and considering that Note 3 has the most bright amoled display built, I am afraid that it will suffer from permanent burn in because of blue pixels. Could anyone tell me if they have burn in ? This is a major drawback for me and might be the point which may convince me to give up on note3 in favor of N5.
Thanks all for your help. I really appreciate it.
For me it's so simple. They don't even belong to the same category.
Do you need/like the S-Pen features (and do you actually use them)? Do you need the bigger screen and the amazing Full HD @60fps video (let alone the 4K)?
If not then the Nexus 5 is a no brainer at this price point. Plain and simple.
Apps and bloatware are of no importance to me. I always remove them to my preference, to me flashing ROMs is an integral part of a smartphone like Note 3.
I agree with you, but if the screen has issues than all the other features are pointless, considering that the screen is the thing we see most.
It would be really great if owners could do some screen tests and return with the result.

how much better is the galaxy s5 compared to the note 3?

I bought the n9005 note 3 yesterday and, coming from an ancient nexus s, I AM IN LOVE! I don't even need a tablet anymore, this thing is absolutely gorgeous. But i usually keep the phones I buy for 2-3 years and I want the best thing available. So, how much better will the s5 be in terms of performance? I already use this phone in power saving mode all the time and like I said, it is flying. I don't think I can ever go to a smaller screen size now.

Note series can't be compared with S series.
But so far to my observation, Note series is always have much improvement from the S-series. You can see since S2 vs. Note 1, S3 vs. Note 2, and the latest one S4 vs Note 3.
Note 1 is the improvement of S2 (design, software, hardware), same with Note 2 and Note 3.
Whichever features you see on the S series, Note series most probably will have also.
The latest one Note 3, it gets all the S4 features, plus additional Air command, because we have the S-pen.
So if you want to compare, don't compare Note 3 with S5. compare it with next release Note 4.
Cheers.
@antique_sonic no note is much better then s4. I have both of them the speed and screen quality on note is much higher. I think he wants a comparision in specs and speed. And note 3 is a phone today which I think will support all latest apps till 1 or 2 years.

The S5 is all hype and nothing useful apart from being waterproof in case you're planning to drop your phone in the toilet. And all you get from that waterproofing is a car kit headache.
No 32gb model in most markets. No 3gb RAM either. I just bought the Note 3 because the above plus the stylus and the lower price at much more attractive!

agree. The speed is much higher on Note series compare to S series. :good:
and to be frank, everything is much better than S-series (at least from what I feel).
The Note 3 is still ahead in terms of hardware compared to the S5. All the S5 has is that it's waterproof (There are cases for that, or Liquipel will add a waterproof coating if you're in the US), and a heart rate scanner (There are apps for the Note 3 that are accurate and use the camera flash.)
In return, the Note 3 has
3GB RAM(S5=2GB),
An Spen,
5.7" screen (S5=5.1"),
3200Mah battery (S5=2800),
32 and 64GB ROM (S5=16&32, and we all know the 32GB is going to be impossible to buy. As usual.)
In my personal opinion (as a designer) it looks better,
Better optimized for productive usage (Action menu, popup windows, multiscreen.)
And it costs less.
If the S5 had been what it had been rumoured to be, it would be worth considering an S5. As it turns out, no such thing.
The S5 is a dressed down Note 3. Don't waste your money on it.
If I may... you are all surely being a little biased in saying that the Note 3 is "ahead of the S5 in hardware" and the "S5 is all hype" and in doing so completely overlook things like the Snapdragon 801 vs 800 and the improved camera (not only the extra MP but the new ISOCELL tech). The new processor, together with the smaller screen, may negate the smaller battery. As regards the S-Pen, I have heard from more than one person that after the novelty of the first few weeks the pen just stays in place and is rarely used. Wireless charging has not yet become a must have but having not tried it yet myself I'm intrigued to do so. Does the Note have that too?
And this is not coming from someone who owns a Note 3 and is trying to defend it. I am currently making the choice between the two at the moment as an upgrade to my S3 and do not see it being as clear cut as some above make it out to be. The only thing that really has me favouring the Note 3 is the 3GB RAM.
S5 is just so ugly and it looks like a plaster.

Yes, the Note 3 has an available official wireless charging back cover and kit. Even the S4 has it.
The additional megapixels and the ISOCELL technology is going to do sod all on a 1/2.6'' sensor... Bandages on an open wound.
The 801 might be a tiny improvement (of the 'Apple-policy' variety) , but it's going to be bottlenecked by the 2GB RAM.
As for the Spen, many of us do use it every day.

As mentioned I'm still deciding which to get so like to think I'm being unbiased but, with all respect, you're sounding like a fanboy. The reason I say this is your wording (tiny improvement when Anandtech talks about faster Web page and application loads - real world benefits) and your failure to note the increased sensor size when dismissing the upgraded camera, even after mentioning sensor size yourself (1/3.06" vs 1/2.6" )
All of these might be "small" but they are improvements and no smaller than the benefits of the Note 3 that were pointed out.
I found this of interest. We'll need to argue about whether 22% is many or some: http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-often-do-you-use-the-S-Pen-stylus-of-your-Galaxy-Note-3_id53572
The big negative of both, and the thing that would have been the clincher for me, is no OIS on either of their flagship devices. Shocking from Samsung.

I just checked, no bloke bits here.
I do not call 0.2Ghz an improvement. It's the same thing Apple has been doing with their iPhones, adding 0.1 or 0.2 ghz and saying it loads faster.
Benchmarks are rarely accurate in real-life useage. (theyre fun, but not useful) In real-life usage, with several apps open at once, it will not be the case as you run out of RAM fast.
The Note 3 has 2.71GB of useable RAM, with facebook, whatsapp, tapatalk, firefox and a mediaplayer open, even with Apex instead of TW, and all bloatware gone, it's using exactly 2GB.
What do you think will happen if you try that on an S5 with 2GB RAM(usable around 1.7GB, most likely) ? Any gamer, Dev, ITer and techie can tell you loads of Ghz are going to do sod all if you're out of RAM.
And it's certainty not worth 2-300 quid extra!
I did not 'fail to notice' the sensor size. The difference is simply negligible if you know your photography. It's my profession, I know my photography hardware inside out.
Sounds more to me like you've long since made up your mind. No offence, but claiming two negligible babysteps as 'improvements' is more something I would expect from an apple user.
Talking pure money vs value, which is what I was doing, the S5 is simply more money for something you can get for less.

As far as I am aware fanboy is a sexless term.
I realise you're a self professed expert in all fields but any increase in sensor size is an improvement and at these levels that is a decent improvement. But that doesn't matter in the slightest, it has a larger sensor. Argument over.
Both phones are likely to be on contract at the same price in my country. If not, then price will become a factor. At the moment it's not, I'm assuming the same price.
Do you own a Note 3? I think that answer will say a lot about what is happening here. I own neither. Even if I've "made my mind up" about the S5 I can change my mind...
I mentioned my old Nokia's elsewhere and this is why I miss them. Even the N95 back in 2007 had a 1/2.5" sensor!

That is so bloody typical. Someone makes a comment coming from their own area of expertise and the immediate response is "Oh you're so bloody smart, you know everything!".
Shall I simply state wikipedia as a source from now on? As it would seem that causes a less childish reaction.
I think you will find the comments of the other users more than sufficient regarding 'what is happening here'.
I own a Note 3, yes. Something one could easily have worked out from my signature, which says so in every post I make..
I also own an S4, S3, S2, Note 2 and several other Samsung and non-Samsung devices. What is your point?
"But that doesn't matter in the slightest, it has a larger sensor. Argument over. " Equals "My car is three centimeters larger than yours. It has a lesser engine and a smaller tank, but it's bigger so it's better."
By your logic, the Note 3 is bigger than the S5, so surely it must be superior, 'argument over'?

Who cares if it loads websites faster? You can see more of the website on the Note 3 screen. The advantage is neutered.
I'm no fan boy either. I've owned a dozen smart phones in the last four years, including s3, note 2, s4, all the nexus phones starting with the nexus one, three HTC phones and a couple of Xperias.
Of all these the only one that compares to the Note 3 is the Note 2. Samsung have hit the perfect size with this series. It's (just) small enough to still fit in (most) pockets and just big enough to make certain tasks that are painful on lesser phones tolerable.
What the OP said is correct - you don't even really need a tablet if you have one of these. I still have one but I may sell it as I only use it once a week if I'm lucky. Samsung envisioned this device as a bridge between tablets and phones and in my opinion they have very much succeeded. If you think the note 3 is a hassle to carry around, it's not. Try carrying around a tablet if you want to experience hassle.
I use the pen just about every day. I jot down notes at work and it saves me carrying around a note pad.
The camera on the s5 is still just a phone camera. It may be better than the Note 3 but you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between photos taken with each device just by looking at them.
Slightly better processor true but less ram and less Internal storage, at least for most people who won't be lucky or smart enough to get a 32Gb model. The note 3 is already so overpowered that it will be good for at least the next two years. Just like the camera no one will be able to tell the difference in normal use.
So the only distinction worth weighing up is this: do you want waterproof and more pocketable or do you want a borderline tablet experience with an active stylus?
I'll take the latter myself as it fits my pockets and I've not thrown it into a pond yet.

You have no idea of my expertise. I was not the one childish enough to attempt to "win" a discussion by whipping out my credentials.
I think you will find the comments of the other users more than sufficient regarding 'what is happening here'.

Actually not at all. I am in the Note 3 section of this forum, I'd expect nothing less than rabid fanboyism. One hundred lemmings marching into the sea does not prove much...
I own a Note 3, yes. Something one could easily have worked out from my signature, which says so in every post I make..
I also own an S4, S3, S2, Note 2 and several other Samsung and non-Samsung devices. What is your point?

You better have a word with the designers of the Tapatalk app then as sadly your signature does not appear when I browse the site on there. I would've assumed you knew that a world existed outside of PC web browser access to this forum.
My point is that, based on vast personal experience on the subject, owner's of a certain cellphone always feel the need to convince others that they have the absolute ultimate best cellphone. This does not apply to their previous cellphones (so your ownership history means little) as the newest device trumps all in their opinion.
"But that doesn't matter in the slightest, it has a larger sensor. Argument over. " Equals "My car is three centimeters larger than yours. It has a lesser engine and a smaller tank, but it's bigger so it's better."

Let's recap shall we. I mentioned a superior camera on the S5. You wisely pointed out that pixels alone mean little and asserted that the S5 camera was not superior. I concurred regarding pixels alone and pointed out that it not only has more pixels but a larger sensor too. You then suddenly claimed the sensor size difference was negligible. I am still intrigued to hear you explain why you feel any increase in sensor size can be regarded as negligible. As an expert on photography surely you concede that sensor size is possibly one of the more important aspects of better image creation. But I will happily allow you to explain why you feel this is not the case....
You may also care to give a definitive answer on what percentage sensor size increase we are dealing with as I have an idea it is not linear.
By your logic, the Note 3 is bigger than the S5, so surely it must be superior, 'argument over'?

I already conceded the Note 3 wins the bigger screen battle and have not argued this. You, however, still feel the need to argue that the S5 camera has no advantages over the Note 3.

Of all these the only one that compares to the Note 3 is the Note 2. Samsung have hit the perfect size with this series. It's (just) small enough to still fit in (most) pockets and just big enough to make certain tasks that are painful on lesser phones tolerable.

You cannot state an opinion as fact. For many anything bigger than 4.5" is too big. Perfect for you is not perfect for the whole world.
By the way, I love the bigger screen too. My current choice needs to be based on more than just screen size alone though which is why I am happy to discuss the advantages of each device. I am not of the school of thought that the Note 3 wins in all regards, however, otherwise I'd obviously not be having to choose. I'd have a Note 3 already. My contract upgrade was due from 1 March.
Yawn. Only a retard would be unable to recognise what I wrote as opinion and not fact. Though it's interesting that most of the people who think the Note is too big have never actuality used one. I used to think it was too big and then my friend convinced me if the merits. I tried going back to a smaller phone a couple of times and I can't live with it anymore.
That's not just my opinion either. I've seen several reviewers also state that they thought the phone was too big until they actually used one for a couple of weeks.
Anyway I think you're trolling so enjoy the rest of the discussion.

Pointless engaging you then isn't it...
When push comes to shove it seems most Note 3 owners have a huge problem with the perceived superiority of their beloved devices being questioned. Maybe this is reason enough for me not to own one. But then again I suppose you'll have "retard" S5 owners who will end up doing the same....
Trolling? If anything I am the only one engaging in this thread in the manner in which the thread title seemingly requested. For the rest it seems like a Note 3 fap fest whereas I am actually trying to discuss which is better and in what respects. Although I suppose I should've realised what was coming when the thread title asked the question but the first post went on to express idol worship for the Note 3.

I agree on the part that the size of Note series is just nice as a bridge between phone and tablet.
I used S1 & S2. Then change to Note 1, I love it. When S3 came out, I still bought the S3, coz sometimes I feel that small phone better. But I use it for 1 week, then I let it go. Not because I have money to throw, but, I find it no use to compare with Note 1 which I still own at that time. And then again I change my Note 1 to Note 2. At the same time I bought Note 10.1, coz I thought it would be better to have a bigger screen for work purpose. End up, I always used my Note 2 everyday at work, and my tablet I use it when it is lucky to be used (end up I always need to charge it every 3 days, and leave it dry up again for another 3 days), and most of the time, this tablet will stay sleep inside my bag. With a 1 week only 1 time usage, I decided to sell my Note 10.1 when the Note 3 come out.
And to be frank, this Note series the size is just nice. Not as big as tablet 7" to put inside the pants pocket. And frankly, I can't stand see the smaller size screen again. Nicer to view internet browser on a bigger screen, even if the size of the page is too big for 1 page, you don't need to zoom out until the wording is very small.
Whether this one opinion or facts, I only see all my friends, who has upgraded their S-series, Iphone series into Note 2, now all of them said "those phone are too small", which earlier before they use the Note series, all of them said "you are crazy to ask me to carry such big phone!"
and now all of them are planning to buy Note 3 when they can recontract in this year, without thinking of other phones.
But again, no offense, but someone is asking a comparison of Note 3 vs S5 on the Note 3 forums. I bet that person roughly should know what the answer is
Same thing if someone is asking comparison of Note 3 vs S5 (if this phone has been launched in every countries), I also bet that person roughly know what the answer will be.
Unless.... the phone is really s*cks to the end till no one love it.

Note 5 vs LG V10?

Soooo, I got a Trial Note 5 to play with, as I have had a Note 3, 4 in the past and other phones like the iPhone. But I also have a LG V10 I am trying too right now. For the life of me, I wanted to like the V10, but I am having a HARD time adjusting to the buttons on the back. It also has a bit of LAG to it where the Note 5 never shows it any more. My Note 4 definitely had lag.
Anyone else use a V10 to try and go back to the Note? I like the replaceable battery and SD Card 200gb.
Note 5 murder the v10 in terms of performance, screen quality and battery, V10 has higher quality audio, more video control micro SD and removable battery, the Note5 also got S Pen- it got many awesome features.
Take the V10 if- you need a phone NOW, it has to be with microSD and removable battery, and don't care about mid heavy 3D game performance, also V10 has locked bootloader and unlikely will be unlocked if G4 is any indication.
Take the Note 5 if- you need a phone NOW, you need the best performance, best screen, camera is slightly better than V10, though V10 has slight advantage in low light shots, you need more function from the phone aka S Pen features., if you care about instant root and unlocked bootloader too.
Wait after Feb 21, as Galaxy S7 and G5 will be announced, the GS7 will have it's micro SD back.

I just packed up the V10 to sell again on Swappa. I can't stand it any more. I'll see if I can wait till Feb. 21st. But may just get a Note 5. Any benefits between the Note 5 and S6 Edge plus?
Software wise v10 wins but has no root as far as I I know

I had a 32gb Note 5 and jumped to the v10 when they had the battery/200gb sd promo! The v10 was fun for a change due to ive had the note 2,3,4 and 5 as my last phones but i love the feel of the note and had yo jump back lol...Im running the MM 6.0 beta on my tmo Note 5 and it flys with zero lag!!!! Cant wait for the official update!!! But hands down the Note 5 is better but the v10 was pretty damn good for what it was!

Well if u fixed on the Note then get it now, it won't likely go down in price, or go down slightly in price as Galaxy and Note series are aimed at different crowd.
Note main feature is the S-Pen, although i don't use it as much but when i do, it's totally helping me to achieve certain tasks, i also like how the Note looks.
S6 Edge plus is just curved from the edges, Android 6 should get it even better, more function would be possible by the edge strips.
All other they have the same SOC, edge might look for appealing but it's up to u.

y u quoting this? i answered before.
I had the Note5 when it released, and went to the V10 when it released. I am going back to the Note5.
The V10 has been a great phone. I can't begin to explain how nice it is to almost never have to plug in to charge - I always swap batteries instead. The camera on the V10 has a bit more fine-tuning, and much better low light potential, but in automatic point/shoot the Note5 seems to win in most camera comparisons. I also very rarely take pictures... even though the V10's camera was a huge selling point for me, I have no real use for it. Note5 will also outperform the V10, obviously. The audio quality on the Note5 certainly isn't poor, and I really don't notice the V10 being better with my $1,500 AKG K812 headphones, or $1,000 Shure SE846 IEMs - they're low impedance, so either phone drives them fine. The nice thing about the Note5 is having the built-in equalizer, whereas the V10 has none. The biggest selling point for the Note5 though, is the screen. OLED cannot be beat by an LCD. I have an LG OLED TV, and tried to buy a Samsung LCD for use elsewhere, but returned it - the quality is garbage compared to OLED. You're looking at the screen the whole time you're really using a phone - why not have the best screen possible? The lack of SD for Samsung kind of sucks because I have the 200GB card from the V10, but even with that, I have not used over 40GB counting internal storage as well, so the 64GB Note5 will be fine for me. I used to really think the S-pen was cool, but barely used that either. But it's still nice to have. I kind of wish the Note5 used on-screen buttons, but having that extra screen real-estate is nice.
Either phone is a great choice. As you can see I'm back and forth on certain points, haha. If the V10 had an OLED screen and better processor, I'd certainly stay with it. Kind of funny how LG dominates the OLED TV market, yet Samsung dominates the OLED phone display market.
I went from the Note 4 to a v10 mainly for the removable battery & SD. I had it for almost a month before trading it in for a note 5. Don't get me wrong- its a great phone, and at first I really loved it. But after a couple weeks I found myself growing more and more frustrated with it, mainly because of the awkward rear buttons and the bad battery life. The second battery I got from the promo was a necessity cause it simply would not last me the whole day even with battery-saving tweaks and a custom rom. The Samsung home button was still programmed into my muscle memory as well and I kept catching myself poking at the lower edge of the phone to turn it on. It was annoying to not have it there anymore. The fingerprint scanner rarely ever worked and I ended up just disabling it, which really sucked cause it was one of the features that drew me to it in the first place. I never realized how much I used the S-pen until it wasn't there anymore. I missed having hard buttons and found myself hating the stupid screen-shortening soft buttons. It's supposed to have the best camera on the market, but no matter what I did all my shots were either noisy or slightly blurry. I could go on, but you get it.
By the time I finally admitted to myself that there were more things I didn't like about it than things I did, it was too late to just return it and my only option was to do a jump upgrade to another phone. I didn't want to enter into another device payment for another note 4, so I grudgingly got a 64gb note 5 instead fully expecting to hate it, but ended up absolutely loving it. It's fast, I regularly end my days with 40% battery left, and I have full use of my whole screen again. Yes, no SD sucks but it forced me to finally go through all the crap I thought I needed to carry with me everywhere and found I didn't really need 2/3 of it. Got rid of about 25 gigs of music I haven't listened to in years, and rehomed my 128gb card in my tablet. I'm eating a bit of crow after all the crap I talked about the note 5 but I'm very, very happy with this phone.

I had G4 and while i played with the V10, they not that different, the v10 is better than G4 but not by that much. in fact, G4 is one of the worst phones i ever used, v10 is slightly above it.
If LG could make they own CPU that would rival 7420, unlocked bootloader without any drama and improve their LG UI and software, as i find the new touchwiz far better than lg, then they might tickle the Note 5, but seriously they both aimed at same yet different people, if u want best of the best of all except SD card and removable battery, you take the Note5.
If u mainly care about camera and sd card and battery to swap on the go, you go with V10, oh btw just recently LG recalled a lot of G4 that stuck in a bootloop because the connector inside are not well connected.
Funny you mention that... I find the current versions if TouchWiz much better than LG's skin too...
TouchWiz is to the point I kind of actually like it. I miss some of the features and layout when using my nexus devices. Never thought I would say that!

TouchWiz on MM is not that much different than it is on LP in terms of features. Though the beta we have isn't final so who knows exactly what is changed. I do like what I have seen so far in the MM beta though as it is even smoother than LP.

Most people wanna hate the note 5 but after using one you will love it.
Both are great phones. LG has come a long ways.
I came from a note 5 to a G4, then a V10, and today, got some the note 5 again.
The note 5 is more polished then the V10. The V10 handed the Microsoft apps much better and the video was better. It was tough for me.

Amen. I talked so much crap about this phone, damning it as a failure because of no SD card, no ir, no removable battery, etc, but now that I have one I love it to death.
I had the V10 for a bit and thought I loved it, but the moment I picked up a Note 5 I knew I had to get one instead. I didn't have to think twice about ditching the V10, there is NO comparison when it comes to the Note 5. I have been a hardcore Samsung hater ever since the Galaxy S3 came out (The GS2 Epic 4G Touch is still one of my all time favs), but they completely won me back with the Note 5. It has literally changed the way I use my phone. I used to think I was a power user, but I didn't know how much of a power user I would become when I first got the Note, it has some seriously game changing features for me (notably split screen and everything the SPen allows). I rely far more on the capabilities of the Note 5 than on any device I have had before. The V10 is barely a memory anymore. The Note 5 is easily the greatest smartphone ever created, there is nothing else that comes close.
Ppl keep talking bout detouchwiz-ing note 5. I've tried nova launcher and Google now launcher and always found myself coming back to the touchwiz launcher. I can't live without the s planner (calender) widget, which didn't work which either launchers.
Been note 2, 3, 4 and 5 user. There is absolutely no lag on note 5. There is absolutely nothing wrong with touchwiz
Love my note 5 to bits!!
