Galaxy Note III ----cpu and gpu - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How many type of note 3 cpu and gpu
Which one is gud for performance and battery
Quad core 2.3 or 1.9 or 1.3 as I saw on gsmarena
What about gpu as well
What to choose

Note 3 will have snapdragon 800 cpu @ 2.3 ghz. Some will have the Exynos octa core @ 1.9. I will get the Sprint version so it's snapdragon for me

As the person stated above N3 will come in two processors:
1. Slapdragon 800 @ 2.3 GHz (4 Krait cores- QUAD CORE) with Adreno 330 which can shoot 4k Videos @ 30 FPS.
2. Exynos 5420 with 8 cores- 4 A15 @ 1.9 GHz and 4 A7 @ 1.3 GHz. It will have Mali T628 MP6 GPU. However it wont shoot videos at 4k resolution.
Both of the GPUs will have OpenGL ES 3.0.
These stuffs can, you know, be obtained from top notch tech sites like gsmarena etc and with a quite bit of research hypothetically be answered.
But to answer your last question- it is too early to tell.
1. Lets see how the real world users say about daily usage in terms of Slapdragon 800 and Exynos.
2. Lets see how GSMArena turns out regarding battery endurance.

awesome smartphone

it will be interesting what the snapdragon will do. However its the highest end 800 not the regular 800 so optimalizing will be limited unless that one becomes mainstream. Tricky.

Mali-400 MP vs Adreno 220

Which is the better GPU and why ?
I'm not sure of the technical reasons why, maybe people are just going off benchmarks, but the general consensus is that Adreno 220 has better gaming performance.
However, unless you are planning some hardcore gaming; Mali-400 MP or GeForce ULP will be just fine.
MALI-400 MP is imo a faster GPU but it really lacks stuff needed to be a good GPU. Also on the low level some of the major 3d scores are even lower than Adreno 205. So the quality here sucks. It misses many compression texture formats so low compatibility. Most games will come up with a solution for that but with time and that time could really end the life cycle of the gs2. Mali 400 is slower than adreno 205 in Geometric Tests, Common Tests, Exponential Tests. Adreno 220 will be a slightly slower GPU in synthetic tests but with more compatibility, better quality from the lower level, more texture compression formats and will be compatible with all games since start as adreno gpu games are already abundant in the market. So its more like a Samung delivered the fastest GPU with major flaws. Here Adreno 220 is like ATI and Nvidia and Mali-400 is like any other generic GPU from another company. And Galaxy S 2 coming in tegra 2 would really mess up the compatibility of Mali-400 seeing that Mali will be missing the number of devices so Mali - 400 could be a left out here.
Right now the game here is a Faster GPU (by a small margin) vs a more Compatible GPU. Better - if u can wait with no definite future mali and if u want everything now and in future its adreno

No, this one is not accurate.
Just look at the firmware, SGS2 was running Android2.3.1 at the time, it was not a retail device.
Retail SGS2 outperforms anything currently in GLbench.

these tests are kinda misleading, between non-final device/software and capped framerate
i'm a bit disappointed that it comes from anandtech since they usually try to have stuff all squared out on PCs ;-)
lol, you guys are very defensive about your phones, understandably.
What you should be able to ascertain though is that the 1Ghz Mali benchmarks are decent and you can expect better performance with it clocked at 1.2Ghz.
Conversely you should be able to see that the Adreno at 1.5Ghz, though impressive, will be less so clocked at 1Ghz like in the Sensation, which will also have a higher resolution screen.
I only provided the links so that people could make up their own mind by using the same logic.
Are you sure the Mali-400 is clocked at 1.2Ghz ?
Because when I overclocked my SGS2 to 1.5Ghz I saw a 25% performance increase in computing performance, but almost no increase at all in graphics performance (using GL Benchmark), so I thought the frequencies of the two were totally unrelated.
I dont know what the clock speeds of the GPU are, but CPU speed bumps will also help with 3D performance.

Well in my case it did not. I guess a dual core 1.2Ghz CPU is not a bottleneck on a smartphone lol.
Ive heard there are FPS caps on the Galaxy line, not sure how true this is, usually benchmarks should see an increase when handsets are overclocked.

its true for the sgs1 and 2 at least, frame rate is capped between 56 and 66 fps depending on kernels/versions etc

Either way, no device has specs this awesome yet. Can't wait for benchmarks from the Exynos 5250 :good:
More goes into the speed of a processor than the number of cores/clock speed. Just because it is a dual core doesn't make it slower than a quadcore CPU. I would prefer a faster CPU than have a quad core that would actually be slower just to have 2 more cores

How does the S4 Dual in the S3 stack up? is it still a good chip.
*face palm*
Seriously dude, they're not idiots. They know what they're doing. Do you really think Google ans Samsung would let the big new tablet be slower than the old small one? The Cortex A15 is over twice as fast as the old A9 cores so that more than makes up for that part and in addition has more single threaded performance which is what matters. Have you seen the Galaxy S3 with the Exynox in comparison to the S2? Its hardly faster because single threaded performance is more important.

Not quite accurate. When it comes to CPU performance, according to Antutu the Exynos 5250 is about 20% slower overall than the S4 Pro. Of course the Exynos 5250 is a dual core, while S4 Pro is quad, which means the A15 is something like 65% faster per core - so anything that doesn't utilize more than 2 cores will run considerably faster on the Exynos 5.
As for this whole dual- versus quad-A15 noise, A15 is the fastest cpu architecture. There is no SoC on the market (or even slated for release before Q1 2013 that I know of) that integrates four of them.
For most purposes the Exynos 5250 is still going to be the fastest thing out there for a while. Don't count Krait (the S4) out yet though - it's designed to run at up to 2GHz (the Nexus 4 runs at 1.5) while the Cortex A15 isn't really supposed to be run above 1.5GHz in a phone/tablet (Exynos 5 is 1.7GHz.)
Also benchmarks mean nothing.

Can you elaborate? I thought it could go up to 2.5ghz.
Dual core + 9000mah = more battery
A15 vs A9 = faster calculations and more performance
2GB Ram = excellent multitasking
add to all of this the new Mali T-604 GPU you get something that should be called an ipad terminator

Adreno 320 vs PowerVR SGX544mp3

Hi guys,
I want the s4 from day 1. Naturally I want the best version available and I'm concerned having done some research that the snapdragon SoC gpu isn't really comparable with the sxg 544mp3.
I know the phone isn't out yet so no spot on benchmarks, but does anyone know what type of difference the two gpus have?

Questions go b in q and a btw
Was expecting this thread for a very long time, curious to get some opinions on this. As per gsmarena and other few sites the adreno 320 on s4 is overclocked.

I consider that PowerVr is going to be a lot more powerful even if Adreno is overclocked. Also admit that EA is going to release 16 high end games optimised for octa version. Moreover this gpu is used on ipads and ipad is a King of mobile gpu performance without a doubt. Let's wait for benches I'm sure scores will be about the same level as snapdragon 800 or a bit lower due to 500mhz difference

LG Optimus G

Oppo Find 5

İ think PowerVR powerful but old technology it would have been better if Samsung chose PowerVR Rouge seriens or Mali T-658 example OpenGL-3.0
I'd say it doesn't matter, the only thing that struggles to run on the GS2 is VC, however that struggles to run smoothly on the HTC One and iPhone 5 as well, it's just poorly optimized. Really now the only difference between the 544 and 320 is bragging rights.....

Don't know if it's a firmware thing, but the lg optimus g at my store is benchmarking just at 9000 on default. Forgot the extreme score.
So I gathered some information:
Qualcomm Adreno 320:
OpenGL ES = 3.0, 2.0 & 1.1
OpenCL = 1.2
SVGT = 1.2
EGL = 1.4
Direct3D Mobile
Direct Draw
GDI
Clock - 500Mhz
GFlops - 51.2
PowerVR SGX544 MP3:
OpenGL ES = 2.1 & 1.1
OpenCL = 1.1
SVGT = 1.1
DirectX = 9.0
Direct3D Mobile
PVR2D
OpenWF
Clock - 533Mhz
GFlops - 51.1
So both are almost the same.
Adreno 320 has more tech support whereas PowerVR has more Clock.
I don't know which one is better TBH.

Performance wise the octa version will win on the CPU side and be on par , gaming the snapdragon will probably win cause it seems to becoming a standard on high end android Devices, battery will also be a tie, where the octa wins in low demanding tasks thanks to its a7, and the s600 win on higher demanding tasks cause the krait consume less then the a15.

Giving Samsung ready to make the sources available, you'd better off with the Snapdragon version because Qualcomm will release their sources well before Samsung does. Consequence:
Development for the i9505 (Snapdragon version) will take off while the Exynos version's development will be slower...

I know, even so I'm big fan of Yamaha Grand Piano (I own one), so...if the chip inside the Qualcomm is Yamaha isn't a problem for me.
The only thing that makes me angry about the PowerVR 544MP3 junk is the OpenGL ES 3.0. I'm not 100% what's the importance if it, but i'm sure that soon will be released many games with this support and PowerVR have an OpenGL ES 2.0 api which gives "extended support of OpenGL ES 3.0. However, if you want full 3.0 compliance choose PowerVR 6X Rogue".
WTF is that extended api does ? I want to see a OpenGL ES 3.0 benchmark (GLBenchmark promised to release one) of both, Adreno 320 and PowerVR 544

what is the bandwidth and how it makes the Exynos stronger ?
Eyxynos seems to be overheating (see relevant thread in Q&A)
A question once and for all: DOES THE 9500 support LTE/4G or NOT!? Because that's a deciding factor in my purchse. I live in Denmark. I mean definite yes or no should be possible right?
overheating + no LTE will definitely sway me towards the 9505, but it still seems to be too early to tell.

Why GT-I9505 is faster than GT-I9500 if it's a quad core? And what to check?

Why GT-I9505 is faster than GT-I9500 if it's a quad core? Apparently I'm lucky enough that GT-I9505 is even cheaper than GT-I9500 in the Motherland marketplace.
Also, is there anything that I need to check before purchasing? I can open the box, check what's on it, etc etc before buying it. Is there any fault I should check? Like S2 has few faulty models with bad chipset and you can check that easily before purchasing.
afaik the 9505 model has a Qualcomm 600 or 800, both in my opinion are better than Samsung's octa core. And besides only 4 cores are running at a time on the octa core.
It's more like two quad cores than eight concurrent cores. The one in the i9505 is faster.

I9500 is one of Samsung biggest failure, they rushed to launch it with their "octa" core, and they released an unfinished product with flaws.
I9505 it is faster after newer updates, and btw i9505 has OpenGL ES 3.0, i9500 doesn't.
So games will run smoother and with better graphics on Android 4.3+ on the i9505.
They're both great devices, but Samsung really fwcked up with i9500

2.there might be lags in overall animations but benchmark wise the octa core beats the quad core to the ground
3.if u guys really wanna see which ones better.wait for a stable AOSP ROM for i9500 and then compare
Wait n see how smooth n fast the i9500 actually is without Samsung's crapware

I lost my trust in Samsung Exynos processor due to the Mali issues in I9300 which make the development of I9300 way slower than the USA's S3. It took CM team so long to get a stable build out of it.
Anyway the good thing about the I9505 over the I9500 and for me even the Note 3 is having a Google Edition. At least porting new Android versions from I9505G to I9505 is easier and faster access to updates.

Dude ...adreno 320 GPU doesn't support all features of open gl es3.0
It just does it for namesake
And that GPU is way too old
Whereas powervr 544 is the same one used in phone 5 I guess which is like a 100 times faster than adreno

Uhm the Adreno 320 is actually as powerful as the powerVR SGX544 MP3 even if its running at a slightly lower clock speed... Ive hit 21 fps in gfxbench T-Rex and 52 in egypt Offscreen so its definitely not weak... Its also much more power efficient... I can play asphalt 8 using the performance governor for a good 3 hours straight easily...

Qualcomm's processors sucks monkey balls. Its the GPU that is pretty that too only at supporting new APIs.
Imagination have pushed an API Extension which will enable OpenGL ES 3.0 key features.

If you're talking about the gaming performance on the iPhone 5 compared to the adreno, forget it. IOS has more optimised gaming apps and I'm not too sure if you can get 60fps on the octa core S4 in asphalt 8 either. Hmmmm...
