Verizon Moto X comes out tomorrow..... I'm hoping the dev edition isn't far off - Moto X General

So far, the only confirmed information we have is that VZW is going to get a Developer Edition. The stock Moto X won't be unlockable.
Also: Verizon's own tech support people don't know what Motomaker is, as I figured out when I called them to find out information about the Moto X

Along those same lines, it sounds like VZW is only getting 16 gb models until either dev model comes out or Moto Maker goes live. Can anyone confirm? I'd like 32 gigs, sad face.

Dammitttttttttttttt!
I'm not buying the Moto X until I get 32gb
11gb usable space isnt enough for my use

IIRC, 32GB is MotoMaker only, even through AT&T.

I'm going to take a huge guess and say that the Nexus 4 price slashing has to do with the X coming into the Play Store and not because of the next Nexus phone. We know from Guy that there will be a Play Store offering so it only makes sense that they want to feature that as the "better" phone to have listed in Play. So they mark down the N4 to 199/250 since 299/350 wouldn't be discounted as much as they to have enough difference in pricing last year vs this year's offering.
Then again they might just be clearing out for a October release of a new Nexus.

I'd be leaning on the side of the Nexus 5 for the play store

I just got an email from my Motorola connection. Motorola.com will NOT be selling the Verizon Moto X without a contract, meaning we'll have to order through Verizon. The only way to order from Verizon.com is to couple it with an upgrade... Damn it.

Hey Michael, I just found out this morning that we will not sell Moto X Verizon w/o plan on motorola.com as i thought on 8.29. You will need to go to verizonwireless to purchase, not sure what their buy options will be, or if their in-market date has changed, but I'd check early.

I can post a screenshot of the email if you guys want further proof of source.

I just hope they change their mind about the dev edition being black and white which IMO looks dumb.
Also there is no reason they shouldn't let you customize the dev edition like the others. That is a big selling point for this phone (customization) and to take that away from people who are going to pay more for the dev edition is also dumb.

Honestly, I'd personally take an unlocked bootloader over a customized device. After all, we've been doing it without customized phones for this long, haven't we?

Does that mean no Dev version for Verizon at all or just no locked verizon X for full price at Moto.com?

The way I'm readying it (...on 8.29...) it sounds like he meant it just won't be sold on motorola.com YET. As far as I know, the Dev edition is definitely still coming, and will be able to be purchased like all other Moto Dev Editions were sold.

Yeah, Punit Soni confirmed that Verizon is getting a developer edition, it's just that no one knows anything about when it's coming

True I forgot about that. But that was released well after the Nexus 4 originally came out and was criticized at the time for not being needed and just down right ugly.

I think it's pretty safe to assume the following:
Non customizable design
32gb
unlocked bootloader obviously
"DEVELOPER EDITION" inscribed on the back
Only available on motorola.com
I have a strong feeling that it will cost $649.99

I think unfortunately you are right once again.
Now for me as a Verizon owner with unlimited data I will have to pay for my next phone straight up anyway and seeing others having trouble unlocking other phones on Verizon this might not be such a bad thing.
But do I do this now or wait for a Nexus 5? Which will probably force me to switch carriers.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I'm not complaining about my situation now, I'm going to get a great phone, plus an unlocked bootloader. Haven't been able to say that about Verizon in a while.
And if you want the Nexus 5, be prepared to terminate your contract with Verizon, there's little to no chance it will carry any Nexus device again

I'm still sticking with my guess of $629.99, to match normal 32GB pricing.

Verizon always tries to make a little more profit on the margins, they'll bloat the price up to the $50. I mean, all their phones' prices end in either $_49.99 or $_99.99

[Q] Can't buy xoom at motorola store now, what does it mean?

The "BUY NOW" and "ADD TO CART" buttons for xoom are disappeared now.
But the accessories of xoom can still be purchased.
Maybe it's about the price ?

the price of xoom is disappeared, so maybe they are changing the price.
you can see at here: http://www.store.motorola.com/b/2657025011
I think he is speculating/hoping that the prices are in the process of being changed, rendering purchase through the website temporarily unailable.
Considering that this is the release day for the ipad 2, the timing would be appropriate, but a better ploy would have been a big discount this morning, just before release of the ipad, to undercut Apple's sales.
Like Digital Man said, I think its a response to the iPad 2 launch. We'll see how big the drop is. Here's to hoping to drops more than $100 lol.
It is really weird. Its the only product in the whole store that is like this. And its on every page.
case: $39.99
keyboard: $69.99
xoom: priceless

Probably out of stock, not a price drop. They would have too many returns and angry people this early in release.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Drop it $100 and offer a rebate for people who purchased it already. I mean $100 x the few people who are buying it (article on here, not me sayng) isn't a big deal. A $200 price drop would start moving this off the shelf.
Its probably sold out. Same thing happened when I tried to order a black gel case with the Xoom.

Out of stock? Hmm how few of these things did they make? lol there isn't exactly outlandish demand... And wouldn't it say 'out of stock'? Idk just being hopeful for a drop in price I guess.
I noticed the same thing on Amazon a few hours ago... the zoom and all accessories are listed, but no price on the tablet. No chance every place is out at the same time without engadget making a front page thing out of it. It's gonna be a price cut. 200 off would be perfect. (I can dream...)
Bestbuy.com is still showing a price but it says "in store only" as it has all along. strangely, when you search for in store availability, it shows all stores in range but says "in store only" instead of "in stock" or "out of stock"
25% off coupon and $100 off coupon could have depleated their stock on hand.

More speculation incoming. This comes along with the news stories today that sales of the Xoom are "underwhelming" and analysts predicting large production cut backs and/or price drops.
Might not be a price change they are preparing for. Perhaps they are editing the site to include two hardware options: 3G and the WiFi only version.
Just speculation, however note there have been claims that Staples will have the WiFi only version as early as April 1, which is only a few weeks away, so it makes since that it will appear on the Motorola site soon.
drop the price so I can get my price match..lol

Would they really stop allowing people to buy the 3G version to make an edit for the WiFi version over 2 weeks before putting up the WiFi version for actual sale? makes no sense. You don't have to stop purchase of the 3G version to put up a new product in the WiFi version.

How about them holding stock to install 4G in their current inventory? That along with Flash official next week would allow them to market it as the only "Flash 4G tablet". They would need to hold back inventory during the stock upgrade, but still sell off what stores already have. They new shipments would show 4G and Flash, which also could require packaging upgrades for marketing purposes.
Go onto the Motorola site now, and the Xoom isn't even listed. Something is up. I'm glad I bought at Best Buy and have Silver Rewards. 45 days to return gives me plenty of time to see if there are price drops or hardware changes.

Money for rooting OTA...I have $50 on it...

I have $50 for the person that roots my EVO. I dont mean next year either. Im talking rooting it in a timely manner. I fully understand devs have lives, and new phones their trying to root in some cases I just wanna add a little incentive for getting it done. I just bought this EVO last night after returning my 3rd Nexus S 4G due to radio issues. The rep told me it would have 2.2.1 out of the box but did not. Although it runs very smooth with 2.3.3 on it, I prefer aosp over sense.
that sux man! is a return an option? I would think you could find a reputable seller that knows the product better than who you received your evo from! my local sprint store can hook up deals on used evos in "exelent condition" check your local store if it isn't corporate. Some sellers on ebay actually know what the product too. that's what the message feature is for. look for someone in florida!!
I payed $100 for this one and have black tie protection so i wouldnt want a used one. But root would be nice. I know it will happen eventually, just want the devs to know that there are people that appreciate their work and time. And, hopefully get someone to take time away from the 3D also
Who is working on rooting it? Is anyone?
no body cares about this phone anymore. HOWEVER, IF YOU TAKE IT TO A SPRINT STORE! ASK THEM TO DOWNGRADE IT FOR YOU! lol! no joke. just do it! BUT you must know the difference between a corp store and franchise

LOL, they cant downgrade it any more than we can at this point. There is way to many EVO 4G owners for this thing to go unrooted forever. I hope...
Your best bet at this point is to swap the phone on Craigslist along with the $50. There are a few folks who don't use the phone no more and didn't do the upgrade. There are ads on Craigslist for evo trades only. They get to make $50 but still sell the evo for there asking price.

no sprint store has that capability, only htc does , and even contacting them directly about it just produces a nice " we cannot downgrade it because it would render your device innoperable" ......
im sorry but short of desoldering nand and reflashing ...yeah...just wait till they are tired with the 3d and somone MIGHT get back to evo, but for now, i think there are thousands of us on the "i kinda hate my phone now" boat , someone will eventually do it i guess, i personally think this release is a trainwreck , and id rather have stock froyo than this tbh but we are pretty boned for the time being..

downgrading/rooting 2.3.3 its the same problem,i believe the hboot simply WILL NOT let you install anything other than a signed , higher version newer date ruu
unless someone finds a way to change the version number on the ruu package itself (short of impossible to do judging by what little understanding i have of code and programming) you cant install anything thats the thing...
the hboot on the 3d is similar i believe to the evos hboot, once they crack that one , that knowledge may make doing it on evo 4g a possible task, but im just monitoring the pertinent threads/channels at this point until i can upgrade on sprint or i manage to sell my evo so i can get a 3d
I chose this unrooted EVO 4G over the 3D last night. The 3D is really nice, but the screen size is a little narrow, and that was one of my big issues with the NS4G.
Well, this offer will stand for a few weeks. Ill say August 8th is the cutoff for me to give $50 to the person that gets us root. If my phone is rooted by that day, the person that figured it out is getting paid.

Android 2.2 went live Aug 3, 2010 and it was rooted Aug 26, 2010. Which for those of you who can't add thats 23 days. Android 2.3 went live June 15, 2011 and its July 10, 2011 which puts us at 25 days. So I would say that we are right on course for something to be announced soon.

Wow! I was thinking of picking this up at Best Buy today, too. But I'm wondering, do they have the black version available at BB? The press release said so but Best Buy's website is only showing the white. I'm head over heels for this phone but if I can, I'd rather it in black. Any initial thoughts on the device?
Thanks!
I did not see the black one, and actually didn't know that there is a black version.
I also didn't know that, but we had the same idea just to use it as a wifi model lol ..I appreciate innovation.. I just bought a case off ebay though
Boost Mobile gets white
Virgin Mobile gets black.
I'm on Virgin looking to get the phone later this year but I kinda wanted it in White... not 100% sure though

Unless you meant the "Coming Soon", here are the links for it.
Boost:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/boost-m...hite/7278039.p?id=1219262037407&skuId=7278039
(Still says Coming Soon for some reason)
Sprint:

Virgin Mobile:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/virgin-...hite/7278011.p?id=1219262036901&skuId=7278011
(Removed)
And the Boost/Sprint ones won't work on GSM (AT&T / T-Mo). They're CDMA only.
Sprint is going to have one on a post-pay plan, but it's going to cost $240 ($10 a month for 24 months on Easy Pay, or $239.99 to buy it up-front). You can't use the Prepaid ones on Sprint Post-Pay plans.
Just a note to everyone: Even though the Sprint Pre-paid version on Best Buy is listed as white, the back of the phone is actually black! I went in last night and picked on up. Loving it so far if you have any questions or want any pictures I'd be happy to do so.

Sorry.... I doubt you'll ever be able to use with AT&T or Tmobile because of different radios. I wish it were true because I have Tmobile and have found it to be THE BEST of all major carriers (at least in the Las Vegas NV valley). When my BoostMobile Aquos Crystal arrives on 10/17/2014, I plan to do comparison with my Note 3 and decide which phone to keep for the next year. Shap attracted me due to costing less than 1/4 of Note price, $35/month plan vs. over $50 for Tmo and the Sharp is simply the best looking touch screen phone I've ever seen (to date) that we can purchase now.

P.S. In past 8 years I've owned/used: Original iPhone, Nexus, Galaxy S3, S4, Note 3 and more Acer, Asus & Samsung tablets that I can remember! Rooted every one of them!

If you read the other thread on bootloader.. etc., the guy with the video was wrong. He put in a T-Mobile SIM but was still using Boost 2g/3g data. Someone in that thread also tried themselves and were unable to get service with an At&T SIM. Those that are stating this phone is CDMA only are correct. You'll have to buy the international version to get GSM.

Wow! I was thinking of picking this up at Best Buy today, too. But I'm wondering, do they have the black version available at BB? The press release said so but Best Buy's website is only showing the white. I'm head over heels for this phone but if I can, I'd rather it in black. Any initial thoughts on the device?
Thanks!

Your best bets to just getting one of those body protection screens, like a screen protector for your whole phone, brushed alluminiam looks cool, also have black carbon fiber one

Also , its a nice phone, going from the tiny HTC one sv to this it took sum getting used to just because the size. But it doesn't feel too big do the screen taking up majority of the front, makes me wish they released the X over here, has a 5.5" screen and a thinner bar at the bottom of the front.

Verizon not good

Or should I not worry
they will not make any announcement im sure they know when they are going to offer it but i think its gonna be untill after everyone else releases it. I guess since its not exclusive to them they really dont care i guess
They want to milk the Droid Turbo for 90 days then have the next/old flagship then. Better off buying it elsewhere at this point if you want it.
I know it's frustrating but with all the delayed launches and supply issues I can't blame them for getting their ducks in a row
Not to be a jerk or anything, but i dont understand where this Droid Turbo 90 days thing has come from, & why it has any traction? I underrstand it as that since its a "Droid" it has special meaning because otherr carriers dont have the namesake, but Verizon will have no problem moving the Turbo.
The DT is a VZW exclusive so they are gonna try to sell the hell out of it. I had 3 different VZW employees try to convince me to get it when I was at the store the other day. I think its one of the ugliest phones I have ever seen. Those capacitive buttons are hideous. And I'm not even an on screen button kind of guy. I got an S3 lol. Plus the boot loader will never be unlocked and it will probably never get root. Besides the 805 chip it has nothing going for it.

You do realize that the Droid Turbo and Nexus 6 have some identical hardware, including the 805, right?

Either way, VZW and their representatives aren't going to give any information until Verizon officially announces their plans to sell the phone. Until then, they're all just going to give the standard "We don't currently have any information on that, check back soon! Also, consider one of our other phones, like the Droid Turbo!" type responses.
Droid Turbo + Locked down = Droid TurDo.

You do realize I never said it didn't. I said it was ugly. Read better.
VZW is listed as a carrier on Google's Nexus 6 page, so I'd say it's safe to assume they will carry it at some point.
Then again, the same thing happened with the Nexus One and VZW ended up getting the DROID Incredible instead. Not that I think that's going to happen (it isn't), but interesting sidebar nonethenless.
Not sure why you would be concerned when the rep said absolutely nothing either way. There's already like 5 threads talking about this though so...

It doesn't matter. The nexus 6 has one model for all carriers. It should work straight out of the box with a Verizon Sim

I'm worried slightly that the Verizon logo was only there to show it will work on Verizon.... not necessarily that they will carry it...

As long as it works on the VZW network and receives updates directly from Google, I'll be happy!

The vast majority of consumers need to have their 700 dollar devices financed. If Verizon doesn't offer it, I won't get it.

I agree. If I was gonna pay full price I would go note 4 Dev addition. If Verizon doesn't offer it check swappa. You can use one from any carrier.

Buy from Motorola with their financing. Screw Verizon. Greedy bastards. Although with all of their tricks to relieve folks of unlimited data plans, every time someone gives up their plan they drive up the value of the remaining plans.

Well to be fair, they have recently increased the amount of data you get on the shared plans by 50% or more......I could have gone from 10gb to 15gb shared for the same 100 bucks, but instead i took the new 10gb price of 80 bucks, we never use all 10gb across three smartphones, saved me 20 bucks a month for the same service......I used to have unlimited data on a couple lines but I realized after many months I wasn't using it.....and we WERE using massive amounts of texts. We got unlimited calling and texts and 10gb of shared data which was plenty, AND got three brand new top tier smartphones on Edge and walked away with the same exact bill give or take a few dollars, now that bill has shrunk 20 bucks...I'm happy.

I believe Moto offers 0% interest for up to 18 months. When I was having a weak moment I had a blue N6 in my cart and it said I could get it for as low as $38/mo. I financed my Moto X 2013 with their proprietary credit card and it was great. I bought the phone during Cyber Monday and paid it off right after New Years (tax return), but it was great having 0% on it.
OAC, of course.

With 10% tax it came to a total of $505.99.
Great deal!
Coming from the nexus 4, found moto's awesome sale and had to capitalize! Decided on the 32GB pure edition 2nd generation! After getting the moto x to my personal liking decided to grab a case and i had to go with the turbo charger lol im stoked to get it, should arrive before the 10th.
I had bought my Moto x 15 days ago. So yesterday I registered for the code and called motorola. Since it was within the return period they credited my purchase with $140. And they were super nice about it too.
I have an extra $140 off code. If anyone needs one, PM me.
Edit: Gone.
I have an extra code

This is my second time ordering this phone and it seems it's being shipped from China this time. Am I to understand that I won't be getting a phone assembled in the US like previously? There isn't any wrong with it quality wise, but I like the idea of buying a phone assembled by US workers. This is a bit unfortunate.
just ordered the pure edition 64gb.. with a turbo charger.. hope i like.. the nexus 6 was too big for me and I have pretty decent size hands
Does anyone have an extra code..please..I signed up, but never received a code..
EDIT: Never mind, it was in my Spam folder..Gee..I forgot that's where Moto emails will be sometimes..Old guy here..lol

"Praise Jah" YOU people.!
Really gutted that I missed out on the discount. I live in Pakistan and asked my sister( who's in USA) to get the phone for me. She sent me a recent link that the discount is still there but it's down to a 100$ which is absolutely fine by me. She's ordering it on Sunday.
Now the major concern for me is that if I buy it off-contract(16 gb) from a carrier i.e wireless republic, verizon or at&t, will there be a carrier logo on the back of the device? Is there a way to get the 16gb version of the device direct from Motorola?
Wireless republic is also offering the phone for 400$ apparently. But I'm sure I read somewhere that there phone is not completely unlocked, it's more of a semi-unlocked phone. Does this mean I wouldn't be able to use it here in Pakistan? Is wireless republic Moto X logo free?
I am really confused. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about bands in Pakistan and if the phone would work at all; that is up to you to research. The only way to not get a carrier logo is to get the Pure Edition (completely unlocked). The Moto X on Republic Wireless only works on Republic Wireless as it is a CDMA phone. Also, if you need a $140 off code, I have an extra. PM me.
If anyone else has another code it would be much appreciated Thanks...

Sometimes, better give give it to Motorola. The one who have the code might ask you for some money.

The $140 off codes are good thru the 14th. So keep your eyes out for codes being offered up for free here and on Android Central Moto X 2014 forum as we get closer to the 14th. On slick deals there is a thread about the codes too so you can check there too.

Yes, you can get the 16GB GSM Pure Edition directly through Motorola.

I was going to buy one but I traded my iPhone 6 for a Nexus 6. Pretty happy with that so if anyone needs a code for the US... shoot me a PM.
