[Q] i9505 or htc one ? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently own the i9500 variant, but with the overheating and the dissatisfaction I want to change my phone.
Shall I go with the i9505 or the htc one ?
I need real life answers not gimmicks or benchmarks
Thank you all in advnace

They are pretty equivalent specs wise. The HTC One is a beautiful device, but it's really down to your own personal preference. There's things to factor in:
Do you need a removable battery? S4 has one, HTC one does not.
Aliminium body: The HTC One build is lovely and it feels great in your hand.The polycarbonate is more expensive on the S4 (afaik) but feels a bit plascicy and cheaper.
Do you need SD card storage? The S4 has this.
Do you like HTC sense or Touchwiz? Sense 5 is very pretty but I find the lack of customisation a bit restrictive, but you may love it.
The Samsung has a slightly bigger screen and is lighter.
The colours on the S4 are very bright and almost too saturated, but I like that, I'm a fan of AMOLED screens as I'm pretty colour blind.
Basically both are brilliant devices. I prefer my S4 over the HTC One, but I can see why it's getting such great feedback.
If you know anyone with the phones give them both a try for a few minutes.
Edit: Just to add you could always change your ROM on either device, there's a Sense 5 port in the works for the S4....

I had i9500 then went for HTC One and finally settled for I9505
I miss S4 features and benefits a lot while using One
Htc one is very limited thought the screen & beats sound is brilliant
Both are good devices S4 i9505 may be little slow sometime but still a must have device.. atleast I don't regret having it now
My Vote i9505
Cheers

galaxy note v/s galaxy s3 (which one should i buy)

i currently have htc sensation and want to buy a new phone
which one would u advice galaxy s3 or galaxy note ???
if u can mention the merits and demerits of taking either of phones??
please advice me
i am looking for a phone with big screen,
good dev support(custom roms), good battery and performance
Search. There is a thread that is exactly the same.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
i got it thankx
"i am looking for a phone with big screen,
good dev support(custom roms), good battery and performance "
They both have big screens with Note obviously being a bit bigger
They both have good dev support with slight advantage for the Note as it's older and more has been created for it
They both have good performance, believe me dual core 1,4Ghz is perfectly enough at the moment, the only thing that is not so adequate is the GPU, but they both use the same one so no difference here
They both have good battery, but from my personal experience, Note lasts longer when used as a feature-phone thanks to 2500mah
Of course the Note has the s-pen but i personally never use it - it's not that useful ( for me of course ) and it scratches the screen like crazy
For me - Note is better if you're all about the screen size. If you don't care for screen size go for S3.
note: big screen + s pen.
if those 2 things are of little importance to you then i'd go s3.
samsung would care more about s3 atm and little about the note.
the note is after all, almost a year old.
both have black crush issues. (i know my note does, but ive heard the s3 has it too (but i could be wrong so don't quote me on it.))
only the s3 doesn't have the emmc brick bug.
i only bought the note two weeks ago.
cuz the s3 is like 200+ bucks more expensive. XD
and i wanted a huge omgwtfbbq phone.
I have them both.
Excellent phones, but my Note has a terrible screen....a lot of black crush and green tinting.
The GSIII has a better screen and a good shape to hold in hands.
I had a lot of Android phones but the GSIII is really the best.
Pro:
Excellent audio quality through headphones;
Good audio quality and good and loud income/outcome calls volume;
Loud ringtones;
Excellent screen (but the best remain the first galaxy s screen...);
Good grip and good shape;
Fast even if You use touchwiz roms;
Excellent battery life;
Excellent camera and immediate shutter time (the only better is the Iphone 4s);
Good bluetooth audio e A2DP quality (no quality loss in audio transfer);
Very sensible and responsive touchscreen.
Cons:
The phone is made with plastic (when you hold in hand you can hear som cric crac sounds);
Low maximum brightness (difficult to use it under direct sunlight, the best screen in these conditions remains the lcd);
Fragile scree even if it is made of Gorilla Glass II (I accidentally dropped mine and now I have a lot of scratches, I dropped around 30 times the first galaxy s and the galaxy sII and they have almost a perfect unscratched screen);
You can't mount your internal sd as a sd card in your car audio system;
Hope it can helps, have a good day and good choice
Dont buy phone yet wait for galaxy note 2 in october then its not hard to choose.
S pen
I use the S-pen frequently and have no screen scratching issues at all.
The pen is very handy for quick notes,or handing the phone to someone for quick" give me your email" notes.
go with note, the BIGGGGG screen advantage is all that is needed.
The Galaxy Note, in my opinion, is the greater media device thanks to its beautiful display which is larger and with a higher resolution than the Galaxy S3. However, the Galaxy S3 will have better performance, but that is only if you can find something that can truly use that massive quad-core processor. Heck, many laptops/computers don't even have quad-core processors and I think it is a bit overkill. But, it's all personal preference.
Honestly I'd say the s3. I absolutely adore my note and I wouldn't switch it for anything but the note 2 at this point. If I didn't have either, however, then I'd go for the s3 purely on hardware performance. Don't get me wrong, the note is an incredible phone but it is almost a year old now and of course we all want the latest and greatest if you want a bigger screen + s-pen then I'd stick it out with your sensation and wait for the note 2, if those are unimportant to you then pick yourself up a gs3

I have both phones, so go for the S3 if you like more rom support and all kind of accesories and stuff like that.
If you want a bigger screen then get the note, asi simple as that.
Although the S3 is technically the better device I would go for the note because of its huge display. It's simply awesome to surf the internet with this device. Generally I think almost every functionallity the note offers benefits from the big screen.
Sent from my Galaxy Note running ICS
I have both them, the N7000 and AT&T S3. The Note's screen is by far much better. I don't know if its CM9/PA that adjusted the screen, but the whites on the Note are so white and clean whereas S3's whites are pinkish (especially when you compare them next to each other). The Note's speaker also louder, but not by much. The S3 is better in everything else though. It feels great in the hand, battery life is better, its incomparably much faster and responsive, and the software is OMG good (AOSP looks pretty meh in comparison tbh and I've been using PA on the Note since it was released). TouchWiz 5 is really impressive, the skin is consistent across the entire system, making it look like its own platform and not some half-baked skin, and its so freaking fast and smooth that I sometimes wonder if I'm really using Android. The S3 is like iPhone level fluidity with Android functionality.
The only thing I miss from the Note is the screen though - not the the size but the quality of the display. Hopefully this can be fixed with mods/tweaks.
EDIT:
Never mind lol, I just flashed the LQ2 (TW ICS 4.0.4) and compared the screen brightness/colors to my Stock S3 and the S3 blows it out of the water. So I guess I right in my assumption that it was CM9/PA that adjusted the Note's screen to such superb levels. Can't wait for the same on the S3.
The best phone is clearly the S3 but if you can handle a big screen and want a big screen go with the note.
Skickat från min GT-N7000 via Tapatalk 2
according to this the S3 has more reasons to buy:
http://versusio.com/en/samsung-galaxy-s3-vs-samsung-galaxy-note
but it depends on what values you want more...
S3 small
S3 = small screen for small hands ( you know what they say about small hands )
Gnote = big screen for real big hand man....
if you have small hands, i don't blame you :good:

You know what they said about big trucks are for small d**s hahaha anyway i Have both international version phones and the s3 is not even close to small, its smaller than Note but is not a small phone.
I like both a lot, but I use the s3 as my primary phone since its faster and have a lot of things to play.
Finally, the screen of the S3 its better, same technology but blacks look a lot better, not video clipping and good constrast.
Note. There is no question which is better.

Galaxy S4 or Xperia Z/ZL or Nexus 4??

Guyz i have a budget of 30K and options i made out are Nexus 4, Xperia Z/ZL or Samsung galaxy S4.
Can you give suggestions??
My requirement is : Music like Xperia phones, Camera sensor like Xperia phones, Display like AMOLED or S-LCD.
My last device was Xperia SP and it totally sucked. Pathetic display. Pathetic camera. Sold out after 10 days use!!!
Go for nexus if you want pure stock ROM

I had a Z and now I have a S4. Worst decission ever. Going back to Z.
In the end, it's a matter of personal preferences. I like the XZ because of the premium feeling, music (I listen a lot of music during the day), and exclusivity. I have seen S3 and S4 all around the place I live, and if I pay a lot of money for a gadget, I want to have at least a little exclusivity.
About the screen, I like the one on the XZ. The thing with the viewing angles is non existent at this point.
The camera has been greatly improved.
You should check the XZ forum and read about that phone in there.
I haven't had a Nexus and I don't like it (Find it too boring), so I couldn't tell you about it.
Anyway, with any of the options you'll have a great device.
All Questions must be posted in the Q/A section
I have the Nexus 4 and the S4 .
The Screen of the S4 is better, the Battery is a lot of better , for the N4 there are tons of roms and kernel out there, this is one thing i am missing here ( i am a flash junkie, only AOSP Roms and Kernel )
All in all , both are great Phones. Cant realy say wich one is better. I keep both Phones.
xperia z cabt even compete with s2, it has the worst washed screen, terrible battery life and super stupid screen response. .. used it for 3 days and I couldn't stand it anymore
n4 isn't bad at all but you shld consider that on screen soft buttons will make your typing really hard ( pressing on home button instead of space alot)

Well. I had nexus 4 and I must say that it was the smoothest and most fluent experience. It felt like the software was actually optimized for the hardware. Ok one or two stutters mostly with third party apps like Facebook. But...i now use a i9505 with 4.3 GE build JRV66V which is incredible. I now have a better nexus experience, a much better camera (compared with the nexus 4 ) and great battery life. Can't say anything about xperia z/zl other than to assume that the same SOC/GPU/RAM with the nexus 4 but with a bigger screen and also a higher resolution, cannot bring a better os experience than a nexus one. The differences are in looks, Oem software and personal affinities.
Hope it helped. Cheers.

IMO just stay away from XZ/ZL crappy display - bad cam - tiny speaker
Nexus very good device with fast updates but it had bad cam with no SD + glass back ( chance of breaking the glass x2 ) , no 1080p display
GS4 : I9500 more powerful CPU than I9505 , games work better than I9505 , better DAC , better Battery , better cam sensor
I9505: better AOSP support - more powerful GPU than I9500
BTW Htc One is good option too
my 0.2 $
I am using s4 9500 htc one and iphone5, as you can see i am a gadget maniac.
Didnot use nexus 4 so i cannot post anything about it.
I just sold my XZ 2 days ago. For me;
if you want to play games and use big screen go for s4
if you want something you can daily use go for Htc.
Htc one is very stable and no lags.
s4 has so many lags (for me) and not much rom support like 9505.
if you want to shoot good pics go for s4, htc camera is totally crap (big failure).
Htc one is handy you can use easily with one hand.
Both screens are excellent both 1080p.
Hope helps
cheers;

I am waiting for Note 3 'cause i was keen admirer of note2. If you can wait just about a month then go for note 3
You meant i9500 has poor roms choice,the i9505 has as much as the One,I am using sometimes the launcher + weather widget from XZ one my One thanks to codex and it rules!
The 13mp of the S4 is awesome though and make me want to swap from my One to S4
if youre going to use the S4 then get the 9505

how is the battery life on the xperia z since the latest update
I got the 9505 my wife the Nexus 4.
Being honest I wouldnt buy the S4 again.
One big plus is the cam (only on stock rom!). But it is so damn lagging. Cant believe this by a so called flagship. I really love the "nexus experience" of the N4. The N4 has also a great housing, in my opinion better than the S4. The screen of the S4 inside buildings is great, outside the amoled is not bright enough.
Maybe you should check the Moto X if available in your country.

Correct. Unfortunately the Cam isnt that good with GE.
For 1 S4 you get 2 N4. This is why for me the N4 is the better option
The n4 performs really good but speaker sucks on it.i have gs4 but it does lag on touchwiz rom.u can juat flash aosp rom and your good. Now the htc one performs really well I really recommend that phobe

Used both The HTC One and the Galaxy S4 S600 version... if you want something with a better camera and slightly better battery life go with the S4... Everything else go with the HTC One. The HTC One, despite running 4.1.2 is as smooth and quick as my SGS4 on a 4.3 Nexus ROM. For development, the HTC One has more kernels and ROMs too.

XZ' s battery life is good but with the update i felt little bit of more juice in stamina mode. But of course when screen is on juice runs out more quickly.
S4 > Htc One > XZ . For my statistics these are the battery times.
I tried the N4 then the S4.
The S4 is better for me ! More expensive but more better !
Sorry for my english
lol the xperia phones are a disgrace.. why would sony put such a bad screen on their flagship device?
i have a galaxy s4 myself running on the latest touchwiz rom, it rarely lags , the screen is amazing except for the "ghosting/smearing issue" everything else is great
im gonna be switching to the GE 4.3 rom when its available (probably tomorrow) :good:

Will the S4 be the last Samsung Smartphone you buy?

Sadly due to all the crap Samsung is doing atm with it's smartphones I've decided to part ways with my S4 while it still worth something, & that will be my last Galaxy S i buy.
As from now on the only Android smartphone i will buy will be the Nexus range, as i want the freedom to do what i want with my Smartphone, without having to worry about warranty problems should something go wrong with the hardware, that is not the fault of a custom rom or kernel.
I'm using my trusty little Nokia 800 as backup now until the Nexus 5 32gb launches which i'll be ordering as soon as it shows up on the Play Store in the UK, I'm just hoping now the camera & video recording quality is at least on par with the Galaxy S3 this time around unlike the Nexus 4 which tbh had a terrible camera.
The S5 can be the best thing since slice bread, but with all the lockdown Samsung is currently doing it might aswell rename itself Apple.
Anybody else also plan on ditching Samsung due to the way they are going?

FOr me Yes and no I love the TW features and pure android is smooth and fast but again its boring as well....When i say TW features I aint talking about the gimmicky ones but the useful ones like the camera, and others I am tempted to buy the nexus 5 but as my s4 is just 2 months old and especially after the brilliant job samsung has done with the 4.3 update am not sure I will stick to the S4 atleast till the S5 arrives
Updating my phone to 4.3. Heard that It is smooth and that's what I want. Sometimes I think to get Nexus 5 but then I realize how useful TW features are to me.
I've used Xperias (for a year or so) and even iPhone (for somedays) but none satisfied me as much as S4.
The most important thing that keeps me on Samsung is the Camera. Features + Quality. Yes, I'm sticking to Samsung
Definitely. I've had the S2 for 1.5 years and then the S4 for six months. I'm thoroughly bored of the Galaxy S range now. Gonna switch to some other OEM for the next phone. Or a nexus maybe if it doesn't compromise on screen, battery life and camera.
100% no samsung for me in the future. With no sources for exynos and all the knox ****, I am fed up. I could live with TW but the fact its laggy even with 2 gb ram and an octa core processor, I think I will look at other options.
Cheers!!

I hate Samsung and their current Knox implementation, turning them into Apple basically. Also I feel their AMOLED technology is nowhere near perfect (low brightness, unreadable under direct sunlight compares to LG screen or Iphones). However, no other phone in this current generation I can switch into. Newest releases contains so many flaws that are such a deal breaker for me: LG G2 without micro sd; Iphone 5s with terrible iOs 7; Xperia Z1, well, let's just say that it doesn't even ring any bells around. All and all, as much as I loathe my s4, I still have to stick with it because there is no other viable alternative that suit my needs currently. Probably won't be using s5 and try to avoid samsung like a plague next generation.
I went with the S4 GPe, and didn't look back. I looked at the Nexus 4, and it lacked features that I needed; no LTE, no 1080p screen, not enough storage or MicroSD to make up for the lack of storage, and no removable battery. Even the Nexus 5 won't have a removable battery, and while 32GB is an improvement, i need at least 48GB for my usage (I have 80GB on mine).
count me in.... i'm fedup with all samsung crapness... next will be a sony or a nexus for me
I'm done with Samsung definitely my next is gonna be something else, not because I think they suck or I'm against their practices but cause I've been using Samsung exclusively since the Galaxy S up till my current S4 and I think I need a break from Sammy!

iOS 7 isn't all that bad tbh from what I've seen of it, my sister just got herself an iPhone 5s, so like anything i had to have a good look at it & at one point i was actually tempted to get myself a 32Gb iPhone 5S, but the screen abit on the small side for my liking.
The camera on the otherhand is brilliant, really have to give Apple credit for this, the camera functions itself is very basic not many options to mess with, but soon as you take a picture 99% of the time the images are spot on & even stay looking decent in low light aswell, something i found impossible to do on the S4 was to get a decent image in low light as most of the time it came out as a blurry mess due to the camera lag, which the 5s doesn't have a problem with.
If the iPhone 6 has a bigger screen & iOS 8 allows widgets then i might be slightly tempted to switch next year & just have a Nexus 2014 tablet for my Android fix.
I'm new to Samsung. Can somebody tell me what the knox implementation is?

As long as they keep releasing phones with Google Edition roms available, I'll stay with Samsung. 1080p amoled + sdcard + switchable battery + decent camera + stock android = almost the perfect device for me (performance could still be better, but that is mostly an android problem (and don't give me **** about how your phone isn't lagging because it is, you just might not perceive it)).
Yup Sony for me next time. I've had every Galaxy S since the S1 but Samsung have really put me off.

I'll definitely stick to samsung, take note that this is just my personal opinion.
I like touchwiz, for me it's very simple, i've had the xperia z for a couple of months, s4 camera i would say is far better, and i don't like the way the sony launcher is. And definitely the screen on the sony ones has not impressed me at all, i even owned an xperia tx but on all sony is prone to quick scratches even the sony z1 has the same screen compared to samsung's screen, which are much better.
The only drawbacks i have against samsung is about the plastic body, and chinese manufacturers can easily make a copy of the phone!
well despite the fact that for the i9500 in terms of rom development is slow, i prefer stock rom! it's very stable!
so i will definitely stick to samsung unless s5 mess things up
i would then move to an htc phone maybe! :3

People on about knox bootloader etc being implemented and that samsung have locked there bootloaders,yeah its a blow but then again we have to remember that Sony,Lg and HTC also lock there bootloaders so its nothing new,yeah Sony screens arnt that great anymore,they look a bit washed out now,T was nice device,I loved my T before it got beer damage,in my opinion the Hardware of the s4 isnt to bad,yeah it is plastic which is a let down but the software is the issue,its heavy due to all the bloatware,slim roms work really well but is it my last Samsung phone,we shall see,at the moment i think HTC one is best alternative,the only thing that gets my back up with Samsung isnt with the s4,thats surprising but with the Galaxy Camera,lovely device but its like theyve forgoten it already ,no updates for past 6 months

Same here. Removable battery is priority #1 for me. SD card slot is a very close second. I also like the shape/profile of the GS4 over Nexus devices, but that is a minor concern compared to the previous points. LTE is also very nice, but not a necessity for me. If a Nexus device had removable battery and SD card, I'd probably choose it.
If there is another high end phone with removable battery, sd card slot, ir blaster and a Qualcomm SOC I will buy non Samsung.
But those things are more important than anything else.

S4 is good choice. I have octa core version and with litlle work new jb 4.3 can be rooted and debloated. Knox applications should be removed ,possibly with aromafm in recovery before booting.

It depends what you want in a phone.
I switched from the HTC One to the Note3 for one reason only. Screen size.
HTC One is 4.7inches
Note 3 is 5.7
Note has fancy eye tracking software, air gestures, S Pen etc.. The HTC doesn't.
No one can make the choice for you. Go get some hands on time with each and decide which you want.
Dollar for dollar, IMO, there's probably no better value for the money than the LG Optimus G Pro. You can get them unlocked for around $300 and they have:
5.5 inch 1080P IPS display
32GB
Micro SD expansion slot
3140 mAh battery (removable)
Metal frame (not plastic)
Built-in Wireless charging out of the box
13 MP camera that has a manual focus control (which I think is a brilliant feature) In most situations, the camera produces less over-processed images than the Note 3
I had one and sold it before moving to the Note 3, and I still think it was a bad move on my part, overall.

The HTC One is definitely nice.
I love the solid metal frame and the forward facing speakers.
But no expandable SD slot and the sealed battery is a deal killer for me.
Plus, the screen size of the note is just amazing!

I came from HTC one too. Now that phone is using my girlfriend. HTC was good device but note 3 is better. Better camera and battery and of course big and nice a sreen. I am very happy.

I have htc one and thinking of buying a Note 3 as I primarily do more reading on phone, the screen is too small for me. If you buying a htc one, make sure you are easily accessible to a repair service, like not buying from oversea. In case you have purple tint camera problem. I had it on mine and got replaced.
Note 3 is the worst note model but there's no better phone out there, got it?

I would also still choose the Note 3 if I had to choose again,
since the note 3 is much more powerful.
And also what's already said here before, I really like the idea of changing or pulling out the battery.
So far I'm still very happy with my Note 3, despite the KNOX thing.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Note definitely. The screen is just amazing.
+1
Definitely the note 3.
Best amazing beautiful 5.7 screen.
Best qualcomm SOC quad core.
Max 3gb RAM
Best S-PEN.
Etc.
Btw, knox is really a waste... But you can live with it

I own both and love them for different reasons. The build quality/design of the note and it's horrible software are it's biggest drawbacks. The One performs better in almost every way with general use i.e. the apps load in the blink of an eye, including the camera.
The Note has way too much of delay when doing simple things like loading the phone or messages apps, and the software design is ugly, sluggish and very dated i.e. no gestures or consideration for size of the phone in terms of menu options appearing at the very top of the screen. Also a lack of real estate due to the default dpi used by Samsung.
The camera quality is debateable. Outdoors in good lighting conditions, the Note wins hands down. But honestly, how often are we outdoors in optimal lighting? The One takes images in the blink of an eye, has OIS and great FOV which captures more in the frame. It is a much better all rounder with the best low light shots of any phone I've had.
The one only really falls short in two areas for me.
1) The battery is good but the Note absolutely kills it! Charge time is also a lot slower than the Note even though it's much smaller.
2) The screen is amazing on the Note. The One is fantastic as well but the Notes size is hard to let go of once you're used to it. It's such a great middle size that eliminated the need for a phone AND a tablet, in most cases. I also love the the contrast, saturation and deep blacks, it's very appealing to look at.
Overall, I think that the One is the better phone due to its superior software, build quality which rivals Apple, excellent everyday-use camera, stereo speakers and snappy UI and performance. But the Note isn't far behind. I would be able forgive it's build quality and rank it as the better overall phone if it weren't for Samsung's dated Touchwiz UI and crappy software. They really need to work on this in their next major release as it has put me off buying Samsung ever again.
At the end of the day, they're both great choices and I find myself switching between the two as I miss different things about each one. I'm definitely excited to see what the new flagships will be like in the coming months.

[Q] Nexus 5 vs LG G2 vs Galaxy S4?

Hello
What i care about most is music (earphones) quality, ability to theme, good camera and beautiful screen. I am not a gamer. Willing to use custom roms.
So, if you were me, whitch phone you'd choose?
Bump
Personally I'd have the S4 due to the AMOLED screen. I prefer the deep blacks over the LCD/IPS screens. S4 has a micro SD card over the 2 you mentioned. S4 is the oldest though. Nexus 5 will continue to receive the latest Android updates and runs AOSP which in return is much smoother and faster than the S4. G2 is a lovely phone too. All 3 would serve you well to be honest.
Out of those 3?... Galaxy S4 every time.
Hi,
Out of those three it' quite a hard choose. I'd go for Nexus 5, due to easiness to install Custom ROM, root, etc. Not only this, but this device is good looking and has a good screen. LG G2 is a nice phone and has, probably, the best screen among the three (not sure though, using N5 and G2 on a store and owning a S4 I can tell it), also has one of the thinnest bezels over there and is one of the thinnest phones.
For headphone quality it's obviously Sony, the best headphone I used was a Sony Noise Reduction owned by my cousin and the second best was the headphone that came with my Xperia Z1. If I were you I'd choose between Nexus 5 and Z1 actually... But that isn't the case now. Keeping in mind what you want to do, then I think S4 is the most suitable, while it's uglier than N5, is harder to customize and is not as thin or have a screen as good as G2, you have everything good with it, not great, but good, if you can understand me. I liked Galaxy S4 headphones, but mine broke in a shot time span.
All in all, any of them would suit you quite goodly. The best thing I'd recommend you doing is going to a nearby store and trying each of them, so check which you like better .

PS.: If you get S4, make sure you get the Snapdragon variant (GT-I9505), otherwise it'll be harder to install custom ROMs.
