No you can't do that. All the Galaxy S4 variants, including the LTE-A variant, can't record 4k videos.

Even if he could it'd be like 5-10 frames per second - assuming the hardware / cam drivers are modified to support that. Why'd you want 4K though when 99% of the people don't have a 4K display yet ;p Not to mention how much crazy space uncomrpessed 4K vids will take when I panic at the speed of 720p/1080p videos use up my s4's memory / sdcard.

that is what 64gb memor card are for and sammies can take 288gb memory cards if you have a ton of cash to burn
I want 4k video BAD. think about it. 4x zoom (via crop in post) and you still have 1080p resolution!!!

Whatabout an app that can record 1080p video, and at the same time take full resolution pics automatically as fast as the hardware can support it. Does anyone know of an app that does this?
Would it be possible to run this through a PC video app that uses the pics as p-frames?
Basically how divx works. You have intermittent hi res frames, and between you have the low res diferences between the frames.

I understand that part.
What Im trying to get at is that while I am making a video, I can simultaneously take pictures.
I was asking if it would be possible to use the pictures as the full frames, (at 4k resolution) and use the 1080p video frames as the inbetween "filler".
If there was an app that automatically took pictures at a set interval while recording video, Im sure it would make it a lot easier to encode 4k-type video from this setup.
Anyone with experience in video encoding and b and p frames?

negative the s3 the note 2 the s4 and the note 3 can all take for resolution pictures while recording video
the catch is the aspect ratio has to match so in 16 X 9 still picture must also be the same aspect ratio so for example on my note 2 the pictures are 6mp on the note 3 and s4 9.6mpiirc
And it can do this as fast as you can press the button at least it can on my note 2
I use it quite often
I am betting it might not be able to do this at 4k on the note 3 however.

Or get 2k recording on s4 .it is possible

The S4 shares its camera module (Sony IMX135), which supports [email protected], with the Note 3.
However, it's also limited by its SoC (4K recording is mostly CPU-limited, not sensor limited), and will have to be overclocked to at least 2.35-2.4GHz to match Note 3's 2.3GHz Krait 400.
A simple camera app port from Note 3 would probably work but lag.

It's not SOC limited and even if you over clock it to 2.4Ghz, it won't record in 4K.
That is because the Adrenocortical 320 cannot decode video at such high resolution

4K Video provides 2X zoom. Its 4 timess the resolution of HD, but technically, 2 times horizontal and 2 times vertical, which makes it 4 times of total. Hence 2x of the clear zoom you are talking about.

For example the LG G Flex Hardware does support 3840x2160 Video Recording but the feature was added.
The Z1 and the Ƶ2 have the same Camera Hardware, so theoretically the Ƶ1 would support UHD-Video-Rec.
The Ƶ1 Compact has a little bit weaker hardware than the other two!

But the Galaxy S4's hardware is too slow for that and would overheat.
The Note 3 can record in 4k because the Sensor is the same, just faster.
(The S4 has 2% better Photo Quality than the Note 3 and an of 19% better Photo Quality than the [S5!!!!]!

Now i'm going to compare the Video Recording features of three phones!
[S4/S2/S3 (For Maximum Resoulotion 1920x1080)]
Digital Zoom=Yes(Lossless to!)/No/Yes
Photo While VRec: Yes/No/Only if Image Stabilization (Digital) is Disabled
Filesize Display: KB/KB/Kb „and Left Space in MB on the Storage you're recording right now"
Video Stabilization: Digital/No/Digital
The Xperia Z2 Zooms Lossless only up to 1080p to protect off „overheating"! 61,2% Stupid, 2,35% Intelligent!
I did record 30 min With the S4 at Maximum 4x Zoom - it got very hot but kept recording!
The Note 3 and the S5+Alpha can Record 5 Minutes per QFHD (=3840x2016 Pixels; 4k=4096x2160! ) Clip, if that would be to prevent an overheating, then why are you able to restart your recording right after the „05-Minutes Mark" -?
Other Feature Comparrissions between those 3 Phones will be added by an Edit!
Did you know:
-The S3 records as good video as S5 in only-FHD mode without getting hot!
The sucking S3 has a better FHD than the S4 because the S4 gets Moiré-Artefacts on the GSM-Arena Video Comparrisson!
-After the S3 Mini was released, many people did verwechseln this!
Some people got a 4.8 Big Phone with a good Screen Resoulution and good FHD-Camera but some others got a Low-Res pixelly phone with low performance because they did not see the „Mini" in the name!
The S3 Mini is not a good phone. The only good thing is the „S3" in it which reminds to that sucking 2012 Flagship Phone! M3 would be a better name!

Sony Buidls better Cameras for Samsung-Phones than for their own.
WHY DOES SONÝ NOT USE THEIR TECHNOLOGY EVEN ALSO VOR THEIR OWN xPeria·Smartphones?
Look at Sony Xperia Z2's 4k on the GSM·َArena Compaire Tool! Right Here!
They've also got old Phones like Nokia 6220 Classic; 6111 and 7110!
But in the Photo Samples, theý're only Cameras from 3MP on, 2mp's like Galaxy Pocket are Excluded!
In the VIDEO-Samples every phone needs to have 720p-Recording or Higher!
The Galaxy Tab S-Models are the ONLY devices that i know, where the Maximum Video Recording-Resuolotions is Higher than the Screen-Resoulutionin! (Without Digitally- Zooming·In!)
The OMNIA 2 (GT-i8000) can record in 720x480 but the Screen-Res is 800x480 but because one of the x/y values is the same as the value in the video size (In this case: y=480) the Cideo can only be displayed in Original Size In.Preview!
The S4 uses 900p for Preview to prevent too much battery usage or overheating
900p=HD+=1600x900 like on a DELL INSPIRiON 17.
But the Note 3 Uses 1080p! Like the S5. The Alpha only 900p! The Tab S's 1080p.
The LG G3 Uses 1080p, the Find 7 1440p ,the Find 7a 1080p-.

Sure, but there will not be a 4K screen for the moment. It has taken at least a year to evolve from 720p to 1080p. Which is about 1.5x as many pixels. I don't believe they will push 4K on 5" or 6" within a year. Furthermore it isn't necessary to go from 1080p to a higher resolution on that screen size.
Also the processor wouldn't really make no sense. It's essentially the same as the current Snapdragon 800 that is used in the Galaxy Note 3 and Z1. Only the GPU and memory a tad faster, but not anything you would notice in daily life. I think that the new Xperia will use a new(er) chipset than the 800 series all together.
Regarding the camera, that sounds about right. I don't think that Sony will push 3GB of RAM into a device though, I think they will stick with either 2GB or 4GB. Which are both more than sufficient for now.
If it's really true it's using a 4K screen, I wonder how the battery will cope.

You can get 5,2'' in the same physical size of the xperia Z if you cut down on the bezels a lot, like the LG optmimus g2, for example.
For example, you could make a "Z2 L" with 5,2'' screen, with something like the ZL very thin bezels, and you'll have roughly the same footprint as the Z1 for example, but on a larger screen than 5,0''.
More than that i agree it's overkill, i don't want to walk around with a phone larger than my XZ, wich is already maximum overkill in size. I got used to it, but bigger it's a no-no for me. Only way to make a screen larger and maintain a good size it's realy to cut the bezels, something sony realy did well with the ZL.

Well even if it is 4K video recording I don't think it will be more than 12 fps (that's what Gopro Hero 3 Black has at the moment). First they will need to figure out a better way to compress the videos and in general it is pretty pointless. I would much rather have a good quality 720p with 120fps where I can actually use the full potential of the phones chip on slow-mo video processing, effects and such. Imo 4K will be pointless for at least the next year or 2 until the price of storage drops and new video formats (with better compression) develop plus what is the point of keeping 4K videos if most of your devices don't support the playback. Sony's 4K TVs do upscaling anyways

My 4k screen comment was sarcasm directed at the ridiculous 500+ppi on a 5.2 inch screen, since 1080p is "only" around 440 on a 5 incher.
Wow these specs look crazy!
4.7 inch is ideal for mobile phones

Sorry to say, but 1080p has 2,25x more pixels than 720p (1280x720=921.600 pixels, and 1920x1080=2.073.600 pixels)
If they keep the same size and overall design as the Xperia Z while increasing screen size and power, this Z2 will be my next phone. I couldn't be happier with what sony have done with the Z.
I am also waiting for some water resistant 10,1" Xperia tablet with a minimum of Snapdragon 800 chipset. Come on Sony guys!!!

1440P for me for the time being, 4k is too expensive
Is a pitty that Samsung divide their devices between Snapdragon and the crappy Exynos 5. Unfortunately in my country I will receive the Exynos version of $amsung Galaxy Note 3, that only record videos in 1080p.

Is it windy? I imagine from the location it is, but the wind noise is nowhere near as bad as the Note 1
in my video, i have audio zoom enabled, so it was zooming in on diff sounds from the sorrounding....without it would have been much better i guess...
what size was the video on the phone?
The audio Zoom option is greyed out if you choose 4k resolution so will use normal audio for that res. It was windy in my video yeah although not too bad. Wind noise is controlled quite well and the mics are better than on the Note 2
10 sec video was 52mb in size

Yes. In the camera app, press the little cog to bring up some more options then press the video camera icon. You'll get a menu for slow motion and other effects.

well that's for slow motion but it doesn't enable audio, I too am curious if audio is possible with slow motion.
Oh I'm so sorry, I completely misread the thread title =\
Sir I would like to inform you that the iPhone is not recording 720p slow motion video. It actually records 480p video and upscales it to 720p. GSMArena conducted a test to confirm this, and it looks like they proved it:
http://blog.gsmarena.com/the-apple-iphone-5s-is-not-actually-recording-720p-slo-mo-video/
I don't know if this is the case with the Note 3, but if a phone can record Ultra HD video at 25 frames per second and with a bitrate of around 48 Mbps, then it should be more than capable of shooting real slow motion 720p video's.
I hope this helps.
Good read I didn't know the iPhone up scales it's slow motion vids but I do like that it has audio and that you can choose where you want a certain section of the video to be in slow motion but I do prefer the note 3 quality

With the iphone 5S camera software, you can edit your video to active slowmotion or not on the timeline ... how to do this with the note 3 ?

It has audio but it is probably crappy audio.
The Note 3 has 3 microphones, so it is a lot of stress on the processor to record High Quality audio and video at the same time. This is probably the reason it has been disabled. Maybe a dev can enable audio in 120 fps 720p video, just like the 4k recording limit (5 mins max) was removed.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519180

Anyone know an app or pc program that does this?
Really ?
Can't a simple question be answered without haters slamming another device or in what way the device does something ? The question was if there is a way to get the slow motion audio effect like the iPhone 5 and instead you get responses on how much better the video and audio is on the android device that does not have that effect. I have seen the slo - motion vid/aud on the iphone and wish my Note 3 would do it, even if it did it with the exact same quality level as the iPhone 5.
I've been looking for slow motion video recording with audio for ages, it doesn't exist. Except I've heard rumors they have it on moto x. Really weird, well....

I'm so sorry to tell you this, but the S4 has no REAL slow motion-
If you choose ¼ Speed, then you'll gett [email protected] (Down to 15 fps and Muted Sound :·( )
But ⅛ is very horrible - records [email protected] and the output file has [email protected] but only 5 real fps so that 3 frames are identical to each other!
The Galaxy S4 has weird slow motion capabilities.
Did you know, that the Omnia 2 was capable to recording in Slow-Motion in 2009? (120fps, QVGA, sorry: No Realtime :·( and Muted Sound)

This is one of the Biggest Advantages of Apple.
Many Manufacturers Except Apple encode the file recorded at 120fps or so to 30fps and mute sound - That truly sucks.

The IMX214 is a very capable sensor, and 1+'s ISP (Qualcomm?) looks quality too. Of course much will depend on speed, reliability and low light, I'll be looking to find more shots.

I certainly hope that with real world conditions it can deliver quality like shown above.
The best part is the 2 sensors that i have noticed that perform beautifully are the IMX179 and IMX214. Obvious 214 will be even better for sure.. Really hope they launch the phone around the different parts of the world soon.
Low light capabilities are incredible, if you search you will understand that how its better than A Nikon D3100 in low light.

A good Sony IMX sensor with a proper lens and image signal processor can bring wonderful images, see iPhone 5S. Which is why I'm puzzled to this day how come Sony's own Xperia Z, Z1 and even some Z2 shots look so over-processed, showing some lens inconsistencies and some SW errors too. Both the Oppo Find 7 and the OnePlus One launch with the new IMX214, and I'm curious how will they fare compared to other Exmors, the Lumias and ISOCELL. So far it is promising.

I agree with you on the Sony Devices part. I have seen that actually. Sony likes to complicate stuff, i really don't know why. Where they can have a easy way to fi thing, they go the other way. Trust me they have 3-4 different apps for the camera. You tell me who in 2014 does that?! lol .. And I read an article, the ISOCELL vs the IMX179 comparison. (Here). The IMX was better
I really need to have a look at the Lumia's though, they have almost DSLR type quality..
The S5 camera is much, MUCH better than the Nexus 5 to be frank. But the IMX214 is a new generation Sony sensor.
aren't you guys a bit scared about the camera app?
i've tried few phones with cyanogen camera app and they were all a lot worst than the original rom camera app (samsung devices especially)
at least this time they are working on their hardware so i really hope it'll be a lot better

Depending on scene and light conditions, today's smartphones can take impressive photos, see some form my S5 review. As far as dynamic range and per pixel sharpness, 1+1 fits right in among the best of Android photography based on what I've seen so far.

[Question] Micro Stutters At The Start Of Video Recording

Hye there guys.
Did anybody have the same issue as mine, that when I start to record a video, there will be
some micro stutters about 2-3 seconds. After that it will be gone, but when I wanna start
a new recording, it will be back again.
I know I can try to use other apps to record videos, but for me stock camera gave the best stabilization.
So, anybody have solution to this?
I'm experiencing the same issue, although I believe it is related to the poor software optimization of MIUI.
Hi, same here with Mi 9T. The worst case is recording video in 4K, with a lot of stutters here and there. Some solutions?
Shocking 4k video quality some videos are just unplayable
---------- Post added at 07:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:59 PM ----------
Also really rubbish slo mo 120/240 not smooth
Sigh. A little bit of relief knowing I'm not the only one. But then this is a global issue, Xiaomi should acknowledge it and
provide solution via updates. So far I still didn't see any camera optimizations from updates that I've received.
Install Google Camera and use it foir everything other than 48M photos. It gives decent 4K videos but don't expect much. You won't see stuttering but fast moving object will bend basically. Kind of like the pencil trick where you hold a pencil horizontally and move it up and down and it seems to bend like if it's made of rubber. It's a $300 phone so..
the processor is pretty weak video-wise so you should've spent your money on 9T Pro for video capabilities

Your talking rubbish pal my previous phone was the 3a XL with the lesser Snapdragon 675 and handled 4k with perfect eis and also before that a mi max 3 which also could do the same with the 636.
Please show evidence next time instead of saying you should of spent more money
And the 1080p 60fps lack of auto focus ..

True. For me the software optimization is the real issue here.
Camera app also lack of good auto focus where sometimes it kept hunting for focus.
So for me the camera app is still not that mature to provide users with perfect camera experience.
It is not about the price. It is about the app quality.
