Hi, new Note 8 owner here. I got a free phone (Samsung Galaxy Star Duos) when I bought my Note from the Samsung store in Robinsons Galleria last Wednesday.

Is it me, or the Note 8 isn't as popular as it should be here?
I won this from a drawing competition from SamMobile.com using the Note II 4 months back. I love the bigger screen to draw with more ease.
Samsung is selling this with a free low end phone indicating that it isn't selling so well.

Idk, people here at ph are pretty much preoccupied by the tablets from china... those local players in the market. But note 8 is the best! But I envy those who have the lte version I only have the 3g version...

I don't see the point of lte here yet. The number of towers are still small for lte coverage, the limited data plan is expensive, and it'll drain your battery faster. There just needs to be a better battery technology.
It'll take another 2 years before lte is a norm.

help
Hi,
I need help rooting my Galaxy Note 8 GT-N5100. I never rooted any phone before and don't know where to start. Please help. TIA!

I have a Note 8 that I purchased through Amazom (GT-N5110). I'm planning to return to the Philippines from the USA at the end of the year. Am I going to run into any problems? The Note 8 is wi-fi only.

Hi,
Note 8.0 (N5100) user here from Batangas. This is my main phone right now cause I sold my S3.
I used cyanogenmod 10.2 on my S3 and I think there is no CM for N5100.
Is there any other custom ROM for N5100?

You should probably spend some time to figure out which model you want, here are a list of models (from the Wikipedia page):
SCH-i515 "Toro": Verizon Wireless's variant featuring 4G LTE connectivity in the 700 MHz band (Band 13) as well as CDMA/EV-DO Rev. A connectivity in the PCS bands (800/1900 MHz). This device features 32 GB of on-board storage, measures 9.47 mm thick and features a 1850 mAh battery. This device's appearance is similar to that of the international version.
SCH-i516 "Toro": This model is same as Verizon's Galaxy Nexus: SCH-i515, however this version has 16GB.
GT-i9250 "Maguro": GSM/HSPA+ variant. Features support for both AT&T's and T-Mobile's HSPA+ bands in the United States. This particular variant was sold SIM-unlocked by Google in the Play Store.[58]
SPH-L700 "Toro Plus": Sprint's variant featuring 4G LTE connectivity in the 1900 MHz band (Band 25). It is virtually identical to the Verizon variant, save for the omission of SIM slot, and minor cosmetic differences.
GT-i9250T: Australian GSM/HSPA+ variant. Complies with Australian regulatory requirements and the baseband is tuned to prefer 3G 850 MHz. This particular variant is currently sold by Optus, Telstra and Vodafone.[59]
SHW-M420S/K: Korean GSM/HSPA+ variant. Complies with Korean regulatory requirements, like a camera shutter sound. This particular variant was sold by SKT and KT.

I ordered GT-i9250 since I think it will be compatible with T-Mobile, but one thing to note is that Canonical has not said which models the image will be compatible with (if there are compatibility issues, that is) or which model they are developing on. If they are just borrowing the kernel and drivers from Android, it may not matter.
There is also a desktop dock (has USB and HDMI), I ordered it but I ordered one that said Verizon (there were none that said T-Mobile). I don't think the dock is carrier limited, I guess I'll find out when I get it.
I'm just guessing here but I would think that they are working on the i9250 gsm version as that version works internationally and would be able to reach the most people.

This, you can usually get one for around $160 (I'm trying to get one for cheaper, not like I could use it with my carrier atm anyway). Just be sure to look out for things like "bad ESN" (means you cant use it with w/e carrier).
You might be able to get one from this forum... though it appears to be closed since december.. hm.
Edit: ah heres why: http://www.xda-developers.com/announcements/the-xda-marketplace-is-closing-for-now/

Happy with eBay
I got one on eBay that was great. It cost about $250, but there were ones on there for well under $100, with some damage.
I just wish I could get a SiM card for it with something like 5GB of data that was good for a year. Still pretty cool to have a phone with no contractual obligations, though.

FYI, I got my Galaxy Nexus and Desktop Dock, and they both work together. So if you are shopping for a dock it's safe to ignore 'Verizon' or 'Sprint' in the title and just get the best deal.
Another strange thing, the model number for my Galaxy Nexus is actually: GT-I9250TSGGEN
I think it is the model I needed to get, I don't think the wikipedia page is entirely accurate about model numbers.

Somehow I think the price will either remain where it is or go up, pending compatibility with other phones and/or tablets. I know if something came out for my lowly Infuse, it would increase the value of the hardware based on what OS it could now run.
We shall see what transpires, but if you're looking to buy one now, the CDMA Verizon version might be your best bet, as they have all but stopped sending OTA updates for it. That is of course if you're on Verizon...

Starting to get impression there's no way to predict lte/wifi and size from purely the serial number, ah well.
But it definitely seems like you can predict location and date of manufacture though.

Mine says 2013.09 N7LTE 32G, not much problem with the grounding IF it is plugged with main charger, started to act weird if it's not....annoying a tad but doesn't do enough justice for me to go the extra mile for exchanging hassle since there are no play store in region.

[Q] Is this the right time to buy a Note 3

End of December 2013, with CES right around corner. Is this a good time to buy a Note 3 or should I wait for something like S5?
Depends on what u prefer a phablet or a phone.
Time for buying note 3 is great, its cashback time
hit 'thanks' if i helped you
SM-N9005 DBT-DMJ7 0x0
XDA Developers 4 premium app
I think for Promo's and cashbacks and other stuffs as previous comment said, the answer is yes.
But actually, Samsung phones are going through a tough time now with the latest firmware builds.. Battery life is really bad ESPECIALLY if you are using Mobile data. It's almost same for S3 and Note 2 also... Dats why I created this thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579075
My advice however is! Wait just a little bit, KitKat will soon be released for the Note 3. See what it brings... And then u can make ur decision. In about 1 month, KitKat will be released officially... Which means that we will get some leaks soon. Just be patient.
I normally buy every Samsung Flagship. But next year, I am waiting for the successors of HTC One, LG G2 and LG Optimus G Pro. Since Samsung decided to start playing with their bootloaders

IMHO the S5 will only be delivered in March (the earliest), and at that point a 32GB version might be a lot more expensive than a Note 3 now or at the start of January.
Now or the start of January is also a good spot for another reason - if you look around a little you might not only find a large discount but also one of the models that still come with MI7 or MJ1/MJ2 bootloader, so you can still root with Universal Root De La Vega (if you really need to keep your knox warranty flag). That was why I bought mine about a month ago or so - even if the prices were still not great the old models were slowly running-out and being replaced with phones that come directly with MJ7 or similar (new bootloader).
In my experience, waiting can be disappointing where these devices are concern. I owned a S4 for a month, I really didn't gain the advantages of it over my S3. Then I was keeping an eye on the LG G2 and Nexus 5, to no avail, disappointment on both ends when they were released. Finally, I found the note 3 to be quite impressive and with a $700+ price tag, I went for it and I am very satisfied- S Note being my favourite native app.

That depends, if you just want the phone now is a good time, I got one overnighted for $200 (with contract renewal).
If you want to root it and run ROMs then you may want something else or to wait.
I intend to do the latter and will just have to be patient since I have this:

CP: N900AUCUBMI9

Hi all,
Just Sharing my thoughts..........
It will be a shame if this phone ships with Sense 5.5, as this will be officially launched very closely with HTC One 2/ M8 which has sense 6.0 with on-screen buttons...
Anyways, Desire 816 is positioned as a mid-tier flagship and has a good prognosis.
At the price point of INR 20-25k for Desire 816, Nexus 5 will be a very tempting option. However, if the devs @ the XDA can pull of rooting this device and dev few Custom Roms, we dont have anything to worry.
Looking forward for the launch in India...
S400 means USB otg support. I hope this has it natively.

Need information!
The Desire 816 launched in China is without headphones. I just want to know about Indian product.
Do the package contains headphones or we have to purchase them separately? Also I can't find any online store selling it yet!

well...no online stores are selling it because it is not available to purchase yet. HTC India messaged me saying that it will be available in 2nd week of may (although a lot of other news/tech sites are claiming 1st week of may).
and what about the headset? As I heard even Moto G and X also don't come with company headphones!
there will be no headsets in indian model also..

You should like the bigger screen with amazing sense ui and camera and last but not the least the design is just like htc flagship one except it's not metal but high quality polycarbonate
It's always better than plastic samsung or cheap Micromax lava Karon etc
Also to mention htc has made pricing very attractive and at this price this should kill samsung as well

Why the pricing is so high for Indian market? It's more than 100 USD in India than in USA

Waiting for 32 GB Pre-order on Amazon
Yep. Waiting for the 32 GB version. Amazon Help tweeted that 32 GB version is currently unavailable. So I guess that means it won't be available anytime soon.
Nexus 5X pre booking has started, Moto X Style looks like a better option already, what do you people think ?

Which retail chain did you enquire at? I'm interested to buy it asap too. Thanks.
In reply to zapper.abhi
I'm not considering it cuz it's too big. With Moto pushing speedy updates it does seem to be a sensible buy though.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the guy. It's not a retail chain, just a small shop in my city. I'll let you know when I get more details.
I had this comparison with LG Nexus 5X vs Moto X Style vs Samsung A8 vs One Plus 2 as they all have the same processor I seriously too am considering Moto X Style as I'm considering going unrooted for a year.

If you don't want to root then don't buy nexus go for moto. I like development of roms multiple roms to flash that I can use as a daily driver not like other devices which has broken roms.. Specially Samsung that has no development after galaxy s3

I know I remember you from the GS2 thread which got banned and a lot of other people too the problem is that with the device fragmentation explosion people went to different threads as they opted for different devices.
I already had the knowledge about rooting and stuff and I did not want to switch away from stock nexus thus I ended up not frequenting the forum and lost track of time and people ..... it is always when i'm between devices i visit XDA to make up my mind.
On custom roms the deal is I happen to know that for Moto you need to register your device ID for unlocking the bootloader with the manufacturer thus violating the warranty. Don't know if the service centers here have an idea about as in the good olden days you could get away with anything due to ignorance of people. Cause I only use root for Titanium Backup, Tasker and Ad-away that's pretty much it..... oh also better battery stats. So i know i can do without those for a year or so. By the time my warranty would be over i would be sick of the stack and would be in a position to try all things custom ...... so yeah I could go with moto x style .................. plus the 5X is sooooooo grossly over priced.
