[Q] LTE and Network or SIM card error - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, S4 mini I9195 - Version 4.2.2
When using LTE RF band only through samsung service mode, data connection is working but impossible to establish a voice call - Always get call ended!
I've found that caller ID can be the source of the problem but when I'm going to settings->call settings->advanced it gives an error reading "Network or SIM card error." then it kicks me back to call settings
The voice calls are working when using GSM or WDCMA RF band configuration.
Any idea? My provider is Proximus in Belgium.
Thx
Pj

LTE is a data-only network technology. In its current state it doesn't support voice calls at all. So you need to have a 2G or 3G connection to make or receive voice calls.

Thx for the reply, voice over LTE is supported through VoLTE/CSFB/SVLTE and VoLGA (Wikipedia)
The questions is Does Proximus support currently VoLTE? I've asked, no answer

I'm 99.999% certain they don't support VoLTE, probably haven't even piloted it yet. Some network operators have piloted the VoLTE system but I don't think there's yet a single commercial VoLTE-capable network in the world. Next year, perhaps. Patience!

3g problems

Hi. Newbie in this forum. Bought an htc tytn from u.s. but am from Phil using smart carrier with gsm band at 1800. after going thru sev topics, properly identified device as Herm200 rom:1.18.255.3 07/22/06 extrom:1.18.255.106 radio1.03.03.10 protocol32.34.7010.01H.
All phone features working perfectly except for 3G. Smart carrier people cannot help. What could be wrong. Vendor says 3g works on 2100 band. Confusing statement. What can be done? Connects to umts but when video call is pressed will not connect.
Which carrier are you on again? Smart Carrier? .. From what I know no carriers in the US support video calling .. Also, Cingular is the only GSM carrier in the US with 3G which runs on the 1900Mhz band ..
also .. what does your phone display while connected "G" or "U" ... what are your phone band settings .. can you also goto dslreports.com/mspeed and see what speeds are you getting ..
According to GSM world SMART (a Philippine operator) uses UMTS 2100, which your TyTN does definitely support.
Have you checked if your SIM card is 3G-enabled? Most 3G networks require special USIMs for 3G usage.
I just learned, that Cingular uses UMTS 850 and 1900 to be exact. According to the American HTC website the Cingular 8525 supports "Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA high speed wireless data network support (2100MHz and 850/1900 MHz), Quad-band GSMĀ®/GPRS/EDGE worldphone".
Does anyone know if there is a special hardware version, that supports UMTS850 & 1900 or will my European TyTN work on those networks, too?
TyTN is tri-band UMTS .. 850/1900/2100 .. so it should work on these networks without any issues ...
And my bad .. didnt realize that you are trying to use the TyTN in Phillipines ..
You should also check, if the called party has a 3G signal, while you call him. Further make sure video calls are activated by your network operator.
3g problems in the philippines
Everything you guys mentioned in order(am in a 3g area calling a 3g enabled party with a 3g sim card). Even the tech staff behind Smart Communications cannot make it work. Displays U and u. But video call cannot push thru even if pic on front camera shows. There is 1 thin line( or command?) stopping it from connecting. My last option is to borrow my friend's unit and see if her unit's 3g works here then it's my device that's a problem. Thnks for the input. Keep it coming.

Hi. I don't know how they did it but Smart Communications did it! Apparently and ironically their 3g sim card is not compatible with the htc tytn but their regular sim is. Thanks all.
are u using 3G now in Phil ?
Is there a Globe perpaid 3G simcard ?
3g problems no more
Hi everyone. After my first thread i have finally got everything on my tytn working: 3g, mms, internet, phone. The problem was on the settings. Smart and Globe, the primary carriers in the Philippines can both work on the phone if the settings are right.
sectorlord,
yes there is 3g and hsdpa along with gsm and gprs and wap in the philippines. and yes you can buy globe prepaid 3g sim card.
glad to hear you've got your problems solved jjc!

[Q] SHV-E300S LTE woes

Hi all
I'm new to LTE and the korean S4 is actually my first ever LTE capable phone I've ever owned.
At first, it was already puzzling that "Automatic" network selection in the SKT hidden menu excludes LTE.
Then to find out that picking "LTE ALL" meant that I could get online at LTE speeds BUT not make and receive calls?
So I did a bit of homework and learned about LTE IMS and LTE CSFB and sort of realised partly what my problem is.
Currently my network does not support IMS so picking "LTE All/only" means I'd have no voice call capabilities at all because it's unable to to use CSFB, because 3G is not connected.
But my real question is, can this be fixed? i.e. with a custom ROM? custom-made hidden menu.apk? phone.apk? or with some direct access ussd code even? (my understanding is- skt hidden menu replaces service mode *#0011#)
I also tried messing around with build.prop and added in "ro.telephony.default_network=8"
and that did squat.
can someone please help?

Can't make or receive calls

Hi,
Since I got the phone, I was unable to receive or make outgoing calls on my MI A1.
Data and txt msging works and I have tried separate sim cards that work in a different phone and was unable to call from the MI A1 so it isn't my sim card that is the problem.
I have tried putting my sim in both the first and the second slot to no avail.
When I have it set to 4g or 2g it begins a call and it hangs up automatically after a minute if I use 3g it is unable to make a call and instantly hangs up.
The phone is running 8.0.0 version of Android.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Check your APN settings in the phone, my network provider did not send them automatically and I had to input them in manually, when I checked my APN it was blank!

I went into network settings and checked my APN settings, they weren't blank. However, I tried and made a new APN that my provider uses, still no luck when calling.
While in the network setting I tried choosing a network and registered my provider's network. This time I got the error notification "Selected network is unavailable" with the dailer giving me "Mobile network not available"
Is it possible that calling is not supported, but 4g and data are?

What country are you in and what band does your provider use?
Also what A1 do you have, it's printed on the back of phone: MDI2 (India) & MDG2 (Global)?
If it's global it will also have a big red sticker on both sides of the box saying "Global Version".
Even with a global phone, still check the bands your provider uses matches the bands your phone has.
MDI2 has limited bands, no band 20 for instance which would stop it connecting in many country's.

Sorry I just read you have data so it cant be the bands Mmmmmmm.

Did you ever figure it out? I'm on t-mobile in the US also and calls only work sometimes. I notice that when making or receiving a call the 4G indicator in the status bar will disappear. Seems like the phone is switching to a different band just to make calls and sometimes it can't switch fast enough so the call is missed.

Nope, I returned it.
Mine worked perfectly for nearly a year, and started this about a month ago after an update. So I can no longer return it, but it's pretty useless without calling capability. Anybody else have any ideas?
I have the same problem.

Network bar is full but no incoming and outgoing calls

Hello,
i'm using redmi note 4 snapdragon 3/32 version for almost 1 year 6 months.
Suddenly i am facing network issue.
Though the network bar shows full network but still not receiving any call neither i can call others.
If i change network to gsm only it seems works for a while
but i want a permanent solution.
*i reset phone. Even tried different rom*
if this is a hardware issue. Is this critical?
Thank you.
Maybe it's related to your operator
Some operators switch from 4g to 3g or 2g when you receive a call or try to call someone
maybe your operator has a problem with this switch and so you are not able to call and receive

Call connectivity on 4G/3G Network (non-VoLTE)

Hi, I am having issues with call connectivity when I am not in a VoLTE enabled network.
I am unable to dial any number on 4G/3G/2G network.
I realized this while I was roaming in another state which got 4G but no VoLTE support.
Also, I am getting calls without VoLTE, its just that I cannot dial calls.
Anyone can help?
