[Q] Stream music to PC via bluetooth? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone had any luck streaming music from their phones to their computer's speakers via bluetooth?
My internet connection at work sucks so I can't stream music from Google Music. I don't want to listen straight from my phone because then I might miss IMs or meeting reminders. Ideally, I'd like to stream the music I have pinned on my phone through my computers audio to get the best of both worlds.
So I successfully paired my phone (4.3) to my computer (win8) via bluetooth, but I can't seem to do anything with streaming audio. I can transfer a file no problem. If I go into devices > nexus 4 > properties > services, it just shows two "unknown services" which I've tried updating the drivers on to no avail.

Not sure about bluetooth. But there is an awesome app called 'AirDroid', it allows you to use your phone on your computer by accessing it locally on the wifi. You can create an ad-hoc and do the same.
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid

After much toil, I figured out how to get it working. For my laptop, I had to download the ThinkPad Bluetooth package:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032149
From what I gathered, the default bluetooth drivers provided by Microsoft do not support a2dp. If you don't have a ThinkPad, look for drivers from the manufacturer.

Hi, I just released an app that lets you stream the music from your phone and play it in any browser over wifi as long as both devices are connected to the same wifi network. It's called Weezzler.
You can get it here.

How do i stream audio from my pc?

I've used orb and its pretty amazing, but I want to take this a step further.
Orb allows you do download and play music files that are stored on your pc's hard drive.
What i want to know is if there's a way to stream whatever audio is being played on your pc at any time to the mogul.
Basically what i want to do is set up my napster account to just continuously download and play random songs from their radio feature on my home computer and have my pda pick up the audio that is coming out.
Does anyone know how to just stream all sounds that are being outputted from the base machine to the mogul?
Thanks
Figured it out.
Windows Media Encoder to the rescue!
God damn i love technology.
...well? Can you share how you did it with the rest of us? I have a Napster subscription as well, and since the Sprint Mogul doesn't support Napster at this time, I'd love to figure out how to listen to Napster on my mobile, even if I have to leave it running on my home computer.

I used windows media encoder and virtual audio cable. Virtual audio cable basically emulates an audio cable going from your computer line out into your computer line in or mic in so that there is no loss in quality. I then used windows media encoder to broadcast a stream based on whatever was coming into the mic in.
With virtual audio cable, anything audio that I play is automatically fed into windows media encoder and then broadcast as a stream that i can pick up using windows media player or core player on my titan (now touch).
Basically it goes: whatever is playing -> virtual audio cable loopback -> windows media encoder stream broadcast -> mogul/touch
Using remote desktop, I can go in and change napster stations and playlists, and so on. Better than xm or any of those because i get full access to all of napsters content.
No more sd card for me hah.

Streaming PC content through wifi / 3g

Hi friends
Pardon me if this has been explained elsewhere, I did a search but due to the ubiquitous nature of the search terms, I could not find a plausible solution.
Is it possible for me to access the files in my wireless laptop with b/g connectivity using 1) Imate SP5 with wireless b or 2) over 3g connectivity with my Samsung Blackjack II (no wifi)? I know about Orb etc, but I am more interested in using the native clients for networking rather than install third party apps. Both phones are running WM 6, laptop has Vista Ultimate. Laptop is connected via WiFi WPA to home broadband router.
I am mainly looking to play my mp3 files using the phone via headphones and to play an occasional DVD using the laptop's drive and watching it on the phone.
Thanks for reading
Regards
you should be able to connect via wifi or gprs using the built-in file explorer. Try 'menu' 'open path'
You should use Orb to do that. If you are under Vista and you have a TV card, you will even be able to stream DVB-H TV.
Go to www.orb.com
Thanks SToNeD, but as stated in the OP, I do know about Orb and have tried it in the past. I am trying to utilise the inbuilt resources of the phone for an occasional movie/music streaming, rather than running the resource hungry Orb 24/7 in my PC.
Awaiting further suggestions please

Allshare with Windows Vista

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to share media from my I9000 with my windows Vista desktop (connected via LAN)?
When I tried scanning from my phone it could not find any device. I think this maybe because perhaps a wired connection cannot be connected to DLNA? Could someone let me know if there is some way to do this?
TIA
Dear friend
You can access to your mobile files and folders via Wireless lan with WEBSHARING software.
Also I am interested to know how can I share my files in my PC with My Galaxy S
Actually I am looking for streaming not just file sharing.
Is there any way to get this within Windows itself?
make sure your phone is connected via wifi in the same network with any device that runs a DLNA compatible player (such as Windows Media Player) then run "allshare" and you will see the name of the computer(s) with the player...
I hope this helped.
it doesnt work for me. my computer is connected via a cable , while my mobile phone connects wireless to the same router..
Doesn't work for me either. In the Media Player "media sharing" I am unable to see the Galaxy S.
i just tried. it's working on my windows 7 32bit.
running the latest Wmedia Player. which i believe is 11?
streaming media FROM my phone, streaming media TO my phone.
i'm using JPY from samfirmware.
oh yea i'm connected to WIFI on both my laptop and my phone.
It doesn't matter how your pc is connected to your network (wifi or cable). You should "see" the computer that runs DLNA player via allshare and choose it. After that, your computer sees the gallery of your phone and is able to browse and play media from it.
Edit: Galaxy S shows up in the media player's library

[Q] Sharing video from phone to computer

I need to share videos on my phone to my work laptop.
I cannot install programs on my work laptop (So VLC won't do. Neither will portable VLC, I think.)
I already tested I can run barnacle wifi tether.
I can create adhoc on laptop as well.
I can't use my laptop to use the work network to do non work functions. I doubt they'll not mind a few websites, but streaming videos will definitely get me in trouble.
I can bypass this by streaming it from my phone. No business bandwidth used, no programs installed, no files copied onto the computer.
I assume you're not allowed to connect USB storage to the work laptop? Otherwise you could just put the phone in USB mass storage mode and play files that way.

Forgot about that one. I wouldn't want to try. They've given us password protected, metal encased, waterproof USB sticks to move things between work computers. It would be much better to stream media.
Oh, also, Windows Media Player is installed. And Real as well, I think.
If either can function as a DLNA/UPNP client, the DLNA app preloaded on the Atrix has the ability to stream media stored on the phone.

So, what would need to be done?
DLNA running on phone. I guess WiFi from either. But, how do I access it if I can't install DLNA software onto laptop?
Windows Media Player can act as a DLNA client. Google is your friend.

Looks like there no "find media that others are sharing" option on WinXP. But we're supposed to switch to Win7 soon.
Any other options in the meanwhile?
I've managed to connect to my phone through barnacle, but then I can't run Wifi File Explorer to stream media. Barnacle makes the phone at 192.168.5.1, but I don't know how to access files to stream by connecting to a URL through a media player. Is there a way to serve streaming media from on the phone to a computer when running barnacle?
I can't seem to connect to an ad hoc network created by my laptop. I keep getting stuck on "Obtaining IP address". Apparently theres a file that can be edited to remedy this, but some people have made their wifi broken without being able to fix it by restoring the original file. Has anyone done this on the Atrix?

[Q] Media transferred via wifi not showing up in music of video app

Hi
I have a nexus 7 in my van that I am using as stereo. The tablet is permanently fixed so I can't remove it and connect it to a computer. I also can't disconnect the power cable and connect a usb cable.
I am using the default google music and video app to play back my media. If I upload an album to my "mymusic" account and then download it (select to store on the device) to the nexus, it shows up no problem in the play music app. Before I fixed the nexus into my van, if I connected a usb cable and connected it to my computer and copied music over it found it no problem.
The problem I am having is the nexus doesn't have a memory card slot and it's not really convenient to connect it to my wifi to download the music so I have a kingston wi-drive that I can connect wirelessly to the nexus. If I copy music from this to the nexus it doesn't show up in the play music app.
If I browse to the folder using a file manager I can see the music, it just won't show up in the play music app.
This is the same for any videos I copy over. They do exactly the same thing.
I've tried turning the tablet off and on again, I've tried putting the media in different folders. I've also tried selecting refresh music from "google play server"
Does any one have an idea how I can force it to find the media?
thanks
nick
Does anyone have any help with this?
