[Q] Media transferred via wifi not showing up in music of video app - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have a nexus 7 in my van that I am using as stereo. The tablet is permanently fixed so I can't remove it and connect it to a computer. I also can't disconnect the power cable and connect a usb cable.
I am using the default google music and video app to play back my media. If I upload an album to my "mymusic" account and then download it (select to store on the device) to the nexus, it shows up no problem in the play music app. Before I fixed the nexus into my van, if I connected a usb cable and connected it to my computer and copied music over it found it no problem.
The problem I am having is the nexus doesn't have a memory card slot and it's not really convenient to connect it to my wifi to download the music so I have a kingston wi-drive that I can connect wirelessly to the nexus. If I copy music from this to the nexus it doesn't show up in the play music app.
If I browse to the folder using a file manager I can see the music, it just won't show up in the play music app.
This is the same for any videos I copy over. They do exactly the same thing.
I've tried turning the tablet off and on again, I've tried putting the media in different folders. I've also tried selecting refresh music from "google play server"
Does any one have an idea how I can force it to find the media?
thanks
nick

Does anyone have any help with this?

[Q] Stream music to PC via bluetooth?

Has anyone had any luck streaming music from their phones to their computer's speakers via bluetooth?
My internet connection at work sucks so I can't stream music from Google Music. I don't want to listen straight from my phone because then I might miss IMs or meeting reminders. Ideally, I'd like to stream the music I have pinned on my phone through my computers audio to get the best of both worlds.
So I successfully paired my phone (4.3) to my computer (win8) via bluetooth, but I can't seem to do anything with streaming audio. I can transfer a file no problem. If I go into devices > nexus 4 > properties > services, it just shows two "unknown services" which I've tried updating the drivers on to no avail.

Not sure about bluetooth. But there is an awesome app called 'AirDroid', it allows you to use your phone on your computer by accessing it locally on the wifi. You can create an ad-hoc and do the same.
Code:

After much toil, I figured out how to get it working. For my laptop, I had to download the ThinkPad Bluetooth package:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032149
From what I gathered, the default bluetooth drivers provided by Microsoft do not support a2dp. If you don't have a ThinkPad, look for drivers from the manufacturer.
Hi, I just released an app that lets you stream the music from your phone and play it in any browser over wifi as long as both devices are connected to the same wifi network. It's called Weezzler.
You can get it here.

[Q] OTG USB Video playback

Hey guys, I got the nexus player yesterday and I've been seeing mixed results for what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm simply trying to view movies off of a USB flash drive using an OTG cable on a non-rooted Nexus Player. Is this possible? I've sideloaded ES File Explorer and I can see the USB Flash Drive listed under the 'Local' panel of ESFE. When I click on the Flash Drive nothing happens. There is also a eject icon directly beside the text of the USB Flash Drive. I've tried 3 different flash drives 8gb, 16gb, 32gb, and formatted as exFAT, FAT32, and NTFS.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance!
I'm having the exactly the same problem.
I just saw a video that claimed that you cannot click on the USB using the nexus player remote. You will need to use a mouse to select the USB drive in ESFE. I haven't been able to test this as I do not currently have a USB hub. I'm ordering one today and I will report back if it works.
So my powered USB hub arrived today and using the mouse to click on the flash drive worked!
I also discovered that you can add the USB to the favourites menu on ES File Explorer to get around the mouse requirement. If your USB shows up as usb2006 or 2007 or whatever, simply add usb://200x as a favourite folder. This will allow you to bypass the requirement of using your mouse. The only negative is that the USB number seems to change every time it's re-plugged in. I got around this by making favourites for usb://2006, usb://2007, etc..
I have it working right now as a FAT32... But I can't to see what file systems are supported. It would see it with ExFAT, but nothing would work. FAT32 works, but has obvious limitations. Does NTFS work? Has anyone tries Ext4?

I connected a USB hub to my NP so I was able to use my NTFS formatted external drive and my mouse at the same time. I found my video files on HDD by ESFE but there is no any media player app that plays 1080p MKV movies correctly. I tried ESFE's media player, V Player, MX Player... unsuccessfully.
Playback was always laggy and audio problems occured pretty often.
Does anyone know a good option/app for that?
I can't post links but search for the kodi android app and sideload that apk. It works flawlessly.
Download VLC to play movies when you use a external drive or save them to the NP. That's what I do and it works great.

[Q] Permanent External Mount Point?

I'm trying to use my N7 in the car as a media playback device. I've got it connected via USB OTG to a hub, Behringer UCA 202 DAC, and 128GB flash drive. The issue I'm having is that when the device reboots or I go in to a media playback app without it connected (N7 player, VLC, or Poweramp) it can't find the files and needs to rescan-WHICH TAKES FOREVER! Is there a way that I can permanently set/code either in the Android program or the app itself a location so it just thinks the file is there-perhaps eliminating the need for Stickmount?

Play mp3 from usb c?

Hello everyone, I recently bought a Nexus 6p, 32gb because I didn't feel like spending extra money for more memory when I only need it for listening to music. Long story short, I bought an SP 64gb Dual USB A/C thumb drive and when I plug it in, I can't open music files from the stick to play directly from there. I've downloaded "FX file manager" and was finally able to figure out how to copy & paste things to/from my usb drive (which I wasn't even able to do using the factory file manager). Has anyone tried this and/or figured out a workaround? I'm assuming it's the same with video, but I haven't tried playing one. Thanks in advance.
Thats weird. My lexar usb a/c drive lets me play whatever i want from it, videos, music. I just cant write to it.
Really? What program do you use to play the music? Are you using the latest Android 7.1 update?
I think there may be more than one reason this isn't working for me...
