Modaco alpha3 test rom is up

Okay So of course if your here is beacuse your waiting for modaco to release the new alpha, well alpha three was released as you see above and with the alpha2 boot image all the communications are locked down.
Here are some screen shots of this Beauty. I will Spread them around once everything is up and running. Also I have placed the alpha2 img.. for you to download...
Just unzip this and flash this via fastboot only after you have just flashed the alpha** rom.. K?

Its loads the flash but so far i can't get a video to play. It says Video unavailable or something. Im sure someone will get a way to work. I don't think it will be too smooth though honestly.

Little By little we pile up in here now, and THIS IS GENERAL SO MOD, LEAVE IT BE.... Now, I say that it is a good move.. I notcied that if i flash the alpha2 boot it works as its on but if you reboot were back to the white screen so, guess this is being worked out.
Besides that.. I kept a Nadroid of the one without alpha2 and then run the one with it. I have not switched back to another rom SINCE!!!
Addition: If you have the alpha 3 rom and you flash the alpha2 img.. you will end up back at the white screen upon reboot.. No biggie, just have to revert to your alpha3 nandroid (WHICH SHOULD HAVE MADE BY NOW) and flash it again. So runn it lightly until P comes through tomorrow, well a few hours for him, and see where this goes...

Nandroid Back Up
Hey, How can I get this to be a Nandroid so I can Megupload this... This way people can run it with everything done.. I mean apps, paid, free, better keyboard, root explorer, jesus the list rides...
I wanted to do that do everyone can have a one click solution and just run the rom right from when they sign in with everything...

Honestly, I see flash in this as in or out thing.. I searched on google for best flash sites and got some water site, marc ecko, etc... This showed on the device with all of it working.. Many sites i should work.. I just dont know where the median is on this. I cant tell.

It looks like Google Voice isn't working for calls, I still dial out with my normal number not my GV number.

Nandroid Back Up
Okay, My wife sort of talked to me and made sense.. Instead of doing it with everything I will get it to where you have to sign in and download all your apps or crawl back from SD. I will get a Nandroid Up in the Morning as soon as I see something from P. This way you could have it this simple way too. I guess i will be helping him out with a simple one click push of his mods...

How would this be different from having to wipe and flash the ROM? The main reason I am saying this, is because on the G1, restoring nandroids from another G1 would result in some hardware issues sometimes, so I wonder if this would persist on the N1.

Well, this is the case.. It all works the same... All nexus are the same, depending on personal daily abuse... I could do this and get it done, but, after thinking, discussing and addressing the situation.. i would say there is no diff in flashing versus the nandroid. I just wanted to make it easier, but, as my lady said, lets let it be Modaco's game...

A quick look into the livewallpaper.apk from modaco's rom shows no differences from stock nexus livewallpaper.apk.

Help for Newbie

Hi there.
Just from the start, this is the first Android phone I've had. I've previously had a XDA Orbit which was Windows Mobile and on that device it was highly modfiied with custom ROMs etc. etc. so with experience I was confident of doing that kind of stuff but I'm not yet as confident with my Streak, even though I've had it for a few hours now!
It is 2nd hand, I'll give you the specs:
Android Version- 2.2
Baseband version- GAUSB1A121921-EU
Kernal version- 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM version- GAUSB1A121921
Build number- 12792
I have a new questions. Firstly, how do I know if my device is rooted or not? Relatively how safe is it to root? Do you really need a custom ROM? I know for my Orbit, WM6.1 while quite fast was lacking in features so going to WM 6.5 was a viable option because it looked better, had TouchFlo etc. etc.
You all are much more knowledgeble than me, so any feedback will be greatly appreciated!!

Am pretty sure that your rom is not rooted cause as per the specs this phone is from O2 and its the latest build by them...
Then too if you want to check whether its rooted or not then check for a application on market "root checker" it checks for you whether the phone is rooted and busy box is installed or not...

As MarvinO2 mentioned, look for an app in your app drawer call SuperUser, if that's there then you're rooted.

And checked it with Rootchecker and installed BusyBox and all seems to be done rather quickly and easily much to my surprise.
I just need to get used to Android really, been a stubborn WM user ever since I got my first smartphone 3 years ago! Incidently, my Dell Streak is the first new phone I've had in those 3 years!
Just a last question, my old WM phone (which has nearly died) had my all my contacts/texts, luckily I have a backup of it which is recent enough, is there any way of getting said backup on my Dell Streak? Or will I have to try and revive my old phone, ActiveSync it and backup my contacts and texts thru Outlook or something and then transfer them onto the Streak?

Basically, I had used PIM Backup for WM:

The backup it created was just of contacts, messages etc and it was a .pib file. This more or less is a .zip file so I simply renamed the backup to a zip file and extracted the contents. I renamed whatever part I need, so in my case the contacts.pbc and opened it in Notepad. Crucially, I had done the backup as a binary backup so the Notepad file was pretty much gibberish but there was contacts embedded in there and you just had to look for it. A simple search and I plucked out the numbers that I wanted.
It is a bit contrived but it certainly worked!

flashing firmware keeping games saves?

lol i know it seems a bit dopey but ive put some hours in on sas 3 and wanna update my 12.5 spec flexreaper rom to the rv1. and then to the extreem package,
however i would really like to keep my sas 3 progress , if i backup the app with titanium and restore after the update will the game be saved at the same levels? or would i need to start again?

Yes, Titanium will save your levels, etc. You wont have to kill everyone a second time!

i gave you thanks for the reply, but are we 100+25% sure it will save my level it taken literally hours to get where i am in this game.

I have used Titanium backup many times on my Acer a500 and sgsii, and it has worked every time i have restored. Only restore user apps, not system apps. They can create trouble for you.

I personally use my root backup. Has worked every time. If you want to be 125% sure, backup with both. You can then backup & restore app & data on that game and should be golden.

Probably not wiping problem. I have had that problem in AOKP for a500 and cm9 for my Galaxy s ii, and i tried all wipes without fixing it. Probably a good idea to try another one.
Thor's ICS ROM seems like the most stable to me of the custom roms.
You can also look for the rooted official roms. I tried one, but was a bit slow...

cheers but i gotta admit im not stepping away from flexreaper . civato really made my tab "my device" lol it doesn't leave my side since i went with f'reaper

I agree, I use FlexReaper Extreme and my tablet is in my hand everywhere I go...I've not had ANY issues with FR Extreme and haven't seen SOD for a LONG time, especially since the "official" ROM dropped.

well if your totatly nervous about doing it, you can make a backup with TB and then backup the folder in the (internal)sd card, it should be in a folder like android/data I think do some digging you will find it in there

i would have thought if its a login web server game if you download onto another device, sign in and see if your stats are the same. if so then you can safely uninstall and re-install.

You could also use DataSync & save locally or to your Dropbox if you really want redundancy. I have never had TiBu fail me.

[HELP] 3G restarts my phone

Hi everyone,
I recently flashed cyanogenmod 7.2 onto my HTC Wildfire and it kept restarting for an odd reason, I restored back to SplashMOD and it still has the same problem. I've turned 3G off and it seems to be fine, its just when I turn 3G on
Any help?

Maybe you overclocked your phone at 768MHz.... it isn't very stable

It says my phone needs to be GSM (I'm guessing that means unlocked) which my phone isn't. What is a good radio to flash? and do i need to do it before i flash a rom?

GSM means that it's a standard phone that works in any country. ie: it's not CDMA, which mean that it doesn't need special frequencies from the service provider.

like lo2ay already said GSM ("Global System for Mobile Communications") doesn''t mean "unlocked" and has nothing to do wih it.
But in case you didn't unlock your phone - and I'm not getting you totally wrong - this brings up a much more interesting question: if you don't have an unlocked Wildfire - how the hell have you been able to flash a ROM anyway? I'd guess one of the following might match your situation:
- you have a different phone (not a HTC Wildfire)
- you just thought you're going to flash a ROM but did something else instead
- your Wildfire is unlocked and you don't know it
Are you really serious about what you've done? What tutorial/how to did you use to flash Cyanogen Mod?
And yes: if your phone is a Wildfire (buzz) and not unlocked/rooted you can't flash a new radio because you can't flash anything custom...

I think he was meaning sim unlocked?

oh yes - I've been thinking about that for a few seconds - you're probably right.
Regarding my own little problem which I've also discussed a bit desperately here: may I ask you what you would try next with all your Wildfire experience? (I've never been really convinced that the V6 Supercharger or 3G Turbocharger scripts could be involved but after reading that a few people got that bootloop prob with 3G after messing around with them it looked so obvious).
I feared to investigate any further because I had the feeling it could cost a lot of time... so when I went on to solve the problem it turned out I was right with that: I've flashed the 7.2 stable today - with doing just a dalvik and system wipe without success and then a complete wipe - no success either.
I fear to revert back to a true stock rom (including s-off again) as it took me a lot of sweat to do that initially (that has been just in the middle of transformation from revolutionary to alpha rev with all the goldcard stuff etc.) - too make it short: what would you do?

I would first check my mtd size settings! If you dont know what custom mtds are it means your not using them,if you are using them then you must remember to flash the bravo boot file straight after your rom flash before booting! If this is not your issue then i would do a clean flash of a rom. I.e wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, go into mount and storage and do all available wipes NOT sdcard, then flash the rom. If all fails then i would 1st try a reflash of a custom recovery and repeat previous clean rom flash. Now if it still didnt play ball i would scream at it, throw it at a wall then regret that step and move on to ruu.exe and start afresh lol.
On the v6 etc etc issue. Ive publicly said many times how much i hate this script and others like it! But this is only my opinion as i have had issues using them too in the early days. An app i use still to this day which gives you complete control over the effects of these scripts is autokiller memory optimizer. I will link to a thread i made some time ago to explain this app which can be found on the market.
This again can and most likely will be argued or debated as to its function but in my experience its a must have when used correct.

Sorry i only just noticed your link so my advice was for current op issue. However yes i believe these scripts are the cause im afraid. Still i would give you the same advice again as above or try a clean sense rom flash.
You can get safe ruu flashable zips too so as not to lose security or root so try these before going the exe route.
Hope you get a fix.

Yep I'm using custom mtds - that's exactly the reason I don't like to flash once in a week LOL. I'm aware of flashing the bravo boot directly before rebooting.

yes I know - I've read a few of them I've been satisfied with the script but I'm also quite sure that it depends on too many things if it works good on the phone.
An app i use still to this day which gives you complete control over the effects of these scripts is autokiller memory optimizer. I will link to a thread i made some time ago to explain this app which can be found on the market.

yup. I've tried to install Rempuzzle - but that hangs around 30 mins - so I will try the custom recovery first...

Its sounds like you got things covered and know what your doing but just in case? You do have sdext partition for flashing rempuzzle yes?

LOL yes but thx for the reminder anyway

Now it's getting really weird... I've just put in a different SIM (out of the family) - different carrier. (the idea came to my mind somehow). Looks like the phone doesn't reboot with that.
If that's true and not by accident - what does that mean now? Usually I'd think about the radio - but I've completely wiped the phone (including a sense install in between) - could this be a hardware problem?
I guess I'll do the RUU thingy anyway. So I'll start to gather information on that.
If anyone has a good suggestion to do that as easy and quick as possible - I'd appreciate any suggestions.

The reason its called Gwiz is that because I will be making tons of themes for this in which you may say Gee wiz! No? Okay. Dont expect updates as this is an basic rom really.

Installation
1. Have TWRP or CWM recovery installed (Use T805 recoveries)
2. Download the ROM
3.Backup your stuff in TWRP or CWM
4. Wipe dalvik,data, and caches (AKA Factory reset)
5.Install the ROM
6. Reboot and wait
7. Done?

Thanks! Thought some users would like a basic custom rom. Currently uploading the sprint(T807P) now incase somone needs it. Whenever the snapdragon tab s gets a custom recovery, I can make another basic rom for them Love your kernels

Since there seems to be no developers working on your devices, I thought I might chip in and help out Since Im not good with including things into roms, I cant include themes into roms or extra things since I dont know how.
