[HELP] 3G restarts my phone - Wildfire General

Hi everyone,
I recently flashed cyanogenmod 7.2 onto my HTC Wildfire and it kept restarting for an odd reason, I restored back to SplashMOD and it still has the same problem. I've turned 3G off and it seems to be fine, its just when I turn 3G on
Any help?

Maybe you overclocked your phone at 768MHz.... it isn't very stable
Sent from my Wildfire using xda app-developers app

Yeah i had the same problem
Just flash the latest radio, that fixed the problem for me
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk 2

I haven't overclocked it, where and how do I update the radio?

See the complete wildfire index thread in the development section.
It's a sticky so you will find it at the top
It contains everything u need: ROMs list, all recovery versions, all radio versions, kernels and allot more

It says my phone needs to be GSM (I'm guessing that means unlocked) which my phone isn't. What is a good radio to flash? and do i need to do it before i flash a rom?

GSM means that it's a standard phone that works in any country. ie: it's not CDMA, which mean that it doesn't need special frequencies from the service provider.

like lo2ay already said GSM ("Global System for Mobile Communications") doesn''t mean "unlocked" and has nothing to do wih it.
But in case you didn't unlock your phone - and I'm not getting you totally wrong - this brings up a much more interesting question: if you don't have an unlocked Wildfire - how the hell have you been able to flash a ROM anyway? I'd guess one of the following might match your situation:
- you have a different phone (not a HTC Wildfire)
- you just thought you're going to flash a ROM but did something else instead
- your Wildfire is unlocked and you don't know it
Are you really serious about what you've done? What tutorial/how to did you use to flash Cyanogen Mod?
And yes: if your phone is a Wildfire (buzz) and not unlocked/rooted you can't flash a new radio because you can't flash anything custom...

I think he was meaning sim unlocked?

oh yes - I've been thinking about that for a few seconds - you're probably right.
Regarding my own little problem which I've also discussed a bit desperately here: may I ask you what you would try next with all your Wildfire experience? (I've never been really convinced that the V6 Supercharger or 3G Turbocharger scripts could be involved but after reading that a few people got that bootloop prob with 3G after messing around with them it looked so obvious).
I feared to investigate any further because I had the feeling it could cost a lot of time... so when I went on to solve the problem it turned out I was right with that: I've flashed the 7.2 stable today - with doing just a dalvik and system wipe without success and then a complete wipe - no success either.
I fear to revert back to a true stock rom (including s-off again) as it took me a lot of sweat to do that initially (that has been just in the middle of transformation from revolutionary to alpha rev with all the goldcard stuff etc.) - too make it short: what would you do?
Thx in advance for some input on this...

I would first check my mtd size settings! If you dont know what custom mtds are it means your not using them,if you are using them then you must remember to flash the bravo boot file straight after your rom flash before booting! If this is not your issue then i would do a clean flash of a rom. I.e wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, go into mount and storage and do all available wipes NOT sdcard, then flash the rom. If all fails then i would 1st try a reflash of a custom recovery and repeat previous clean rom flash. Now if it still didnt play ball i would scream at it, throw it at a wall then regret that step and move on to ruu.exe and start afresh lol.
On the v6 etc etc issue. Ive publicly said many times how much i hate this script and others like it! But this is only my opinion as i have had issues using them too in the early days. An app i use still to this day which gives you complete control over the effects of these scripts is autokiller memory optimizer. I will link to a thread i made some time ago to explain this app which can be found on the market.
This again can and most likely will be argued or debated as to its function but in my experience its a must have when used correct.

Sorry i only just noticed your link so my advice was for current op issue. However yes i believe these scripts are the cause im afraid. Still i would give you the same advice again as above or try a clean sense rom flash.
You can get safe ruu flashable zips too so as not to lose security or root so try these before going the exe route.
Hope you get a fix.

Yep I'm using custom mtds - that's exactly the reason I don't like to flash once in a week LOL. I'm aware of flashing the bravo boot directly before rebooting.

I know but I've already tried that twice
And no good news: either wiping everything and doing with or without custom mtd didn't do. Immediately when the network icon shows up (on Google accounts login) reboot... - but wait... one more question: what about formatting boot? should i do this, too?
However, I'll try a sense ROM now and the "safe" RUU afterwards - cross fingers...

LOL yes but thx for the reminder anyway

Now it's getting really weird... I've just put in a different SIM (out of the family) - different carrier. (the idea came to my mind somehow). Looks like the phone doesn't reboot with that.
If that's true and not by accident - what does that mean now? Usually I'd think about the radio - but I've completely wiped the phone (including a sense install in between) - could this be a hardware problem?
I guess I'll do the RUU thingy anyway. So I'll start to gather information on that.
If anyone has a good suggestion to do that as easy and quick as possible - I'd appreciate any suggestions.
--- EDIT ---
If someone has a suggestion for a small Sense ROM (yeah I know) I'd prefer to do that first...

This is a holding topic for discussion of ROM compatability with the Samsung Vibrant / Captivate devices (Galaxy S variants).
I don't see any major reason why ROMs wouldn't be compatible, but I guess we'll find out soon enough. I may look into picking up a Vibrant so I can test future ROM releases on it.

Seems kinda like the one from MS_guru.. except a little more stable
i haven't been getting all the random reboots that are on ms_gurus, it still is buggy when you plug it into the computer (goes to the MTP Application.. ugh), wifi is working well (except rom manager still won't let me flash recovery through there because it says the wifi isn't stable enough or something), its pretty fast but i'd rather a stock rom than this
i noticed on that page i linked you guys to that they had a link for a download to a stockrom2.1.zip.. i'm going to test that one out as well

If you have Recovery installed "update.zip" you don't have keep going back to rom manager and worry about "wi-fi" issues any more because is already installed in your system, just download quick boot from the market, allow su permision, reboot in recovery click reinstall packages and in 1 second you there...

[ROM][B158][Clean ROM][Froyo 2.2.1][Overclocked+rooted]

Hi everybody,
I made a bloatware-free stock Froyo ROM based on B158 which includes overclocked kernel from hiapk-forums.
It's rooted. Nothing special at all but may be useful for ppl who just got their new phone delivered. This ROM will wipe your /cust_data + /data +/system. So use at your own risk and backup important data first (NANDROID).
Everything works as expected.
Credits: stockwell, Huawei, GoAPK, Koush, CM-Team and anyone else whom I forgot.
Download + detailed Instructions
Will probably buy the phone tomorrow just to fool around with it, really appreciated what you did there!
On a side question: the bootloader is not locked on this device or is it?

as far as the market etc is concerned you need to download the gapps zip using the link the original poster provided. It is an older version of the market and i'm not too sure how to update it...being fairly new to the smartphone scene would anyone care to share???
thanks dibb
you will have to install GAPPS from CyanogenMod Wiki as stated in the original thread (see link on 1st post). Afterwards most GAPPS will update themselves once you are online or use market
getting force close android.process.acore
what i think i did
full wipe
flashed the b158
booted phone and turned off mobile data and set up wifi
booted back into recovery
mounted /system
installed gapps.zip
booted back into phone
signed into google
restored titanium backup
all was good for about 5 mins then constant force closes so bad it was a mission to power off. I full wiped again and reflashed but it happened again??? So for round 3 i am not gonna use titanium but manually download all my apps again and see what happens.
can anyone suggest where the problem may be??

As a general rule if you don't know what it is you don't need it  for the most part it is there to protect your phone and only devs actually need it. If you were to make you phone s-off there would be a much greater chance of ending up with a bricked phone. s-on locks low level access so it's harder to permanently brick your device.

once you are in custom recovery screen, using the optical trackpad navigate to Wipe and push on the trackpad to select it. Then navigate to Wipe data/factory reset and select that.
Then just flash your rom. All I did was copy and paste the information from a sticky actually my sticky so the information is already on here.

Engineering hboot, radios... Please help me understand

ok so I have been reading and what not... I have searched far and wide but still don't quite understand. But anyways here's my question.
Pros and cons of going to the other hboot?
Is there any reason to change my radio version? Will it benefit me at all?
is this idea of the way the phone works kind correct?
The phone starts up, hboot will load up the os files (which is my royalginger rom I installed)
So changing the hboot ver is like changing your BIOS ver on a computer motherboard.
now, what kind of tech is actually in this phone... A proc, graphics proc, memory, some storage space. Can any of these parts be modified, upgraded, or even touched? Or is it all permanently on the phones main chip.
And the last question. I know its possible to overclock phones.. But what is the best way to do it? Like, on my computer I never oc using software, always do it through the bios. But what's the best way on the glacier?
Thanks for answering any of these ?s... It'll all help me better understand my phone and how it works and I would like to learn this stuff well so I can help people out on this forum someday soon
To overclock:
1. Flash overclock kernal.
2. Install setcpu from market.
3. Go crazy.

the .85 hboot will allow you to flash any part of a ROM, wipe any partition on the phone, and install recovery images from the Engineering scree. It helps you to not brick your phone. There have been a couple of people on this forum that would of bricked their device if they didn't have it.

IIRC the HBoot would be similar to a BIOS. It physically loads the OS. However i've never changed a BIOS on a Windows Computer so i cannot tell you.

It's all soldered into the main board and cannot be tampered with unless you feel like soldering, writing a kernel and a new OS.

The best way to over clock a ROM is to download and install a kernel. You will need a program similar to SetCPU to manage the speed. If you should download Cyanogen(mod)'s CM7.x it will have a overclocking kernel natively.

With the caveat that, not always but often, better a radio with better signal will come at the expense of battery life.
screw up your bios and you pull the cmos battery, unplug the power supply and you're fine. screw up the radio or hboot and you have nothing to fall back on. A phone is a lot like a pc, without all of the fallback and replaceable parts.
I've been using the engineering radio for a few weeks now, no complaints, was worth the simple flash.
1. ok so to overclock I flash an overclock kernel. Can I flash in a new kernel without changing to a different rom (as in can I keep my royalginger thing I flashed in)
2. By installing the engineering hboot I can change any part of the rom. Does this mean I can do the above? Change my kernel without changing the whole rom?
3. A newer radio has the potential to increase my signal?
4. I've been searching for a while and still can't figure out the difference between an asop, sense, etc types of roms?
You guys are an amazing help... Thank you so much

YES. You need to make sure that you use a AOSP ROM kernel or a Sense Kernel. I'm not 100% sure about Royal Ginger. I believe it's AOSP but you'll want to double check

2. By installing the engineering hboot I can change any part of the rom. Does this mean I can do the above? Change my kernel without changing the whole rom?

Yes. But you can flash kernels w/o needing the E-hBoot. You can flash them from the recovery. and not they will not mess with anything.

AOSP = Android Open Source Project. Look at the G2 for an idea. Cyanogen has AOSP style UI, but they throw some extra options in.
Sense = HTC Skin. It's what the Droid Inc, Desire, come with
MotoBlur = Motorola's Skin all of the Moto Droid line & the Cliq come with
Espresso / MySense = T-Mobile's custom Skin for the MyTouch 4G
thanks man. That helped a lot. One last question? By check what it is do you mean look up on the internet or on my phone

Kernels are based on the style of skin that you are using. We uses either Sense or AOSP. You need to know what type of ROM you are using, and flash the correct kernel. Meaning you cannot use a AOSP kernel on a Sense ROM. So make sure you know what RoyalGinger is prior to digging though Kernels.
Is there a way to confirm or verify if I have engineering boot installed?

power off, hold power and volume down together. 0.86 is default, 0.85 is engineering.

Could you explain how the eng hboot can help me not brick my phone?

Because it will allow you flash, wipe, or load specific sections of your ROM or allow you to reflash recovery images if one should fail. most people will never encounter this but it's a good failsafe to have on your phone.

So if i ever have an issue like some people are having where recovery says something like "cannot mount cache" causing the flashing to not work, I can fix that through the eng hboot?

faux's kernels clearing state which rom they will work for, so pick a rom, then pick a kernel if you want, overclocking isnt really necessary on our phones since its plenty fast already
btw royalginger is based on cm7 which is based on aosp

i assume it would depend on the exact reason why it stop reading the cache partition. I do know i've see a few threads where people flashed a different recovery image and was able to re flash a ROM and getting it work. But then again it'd all depend on why it failed.

Wait, so did IceCold boot? I didn't know it used Aroma. And also, did you check md5sums?

Wasn't sure if by "no problem at all" he meant the recovery didn't throw errors (like his Blackout) or that it booted correctly (unlike his Blackout).

Im waiting for one of your famous edits since I don't know what you meant.
What I meant was that icecold doesn't have aroma, he was refering to the other two. And since he nevwr said which rom didn't work, my best guess it was either a bad flash or bad download since he reflashed ice cold and everything is working.

HA. I get it now. I didn't see Sabsa in the list, so I thought when he said 2 he meant IceCold and Blackout. I need to not XDA while reading law textbooks.
I got weird results as well. I tried flashing sabsa but when it got to the aroma installer it froze and would not let me do anything. Black ice just went into a bootloop. Why can't roms just be flashed with 4ext. What the hell is aroma anyway.

Aroma is an interface used in recovery (or whatever the proper name is for recovery) to choose what you want to flash, it gives you options. Most of the ones I've used are somewhat pointless (no offense to anyone).
If you want to take a look at it flash rom cleaner, no need to have sense. Just to take a look at it and you can cancel it without needing to flash it.

Is it possible to unzip a rom and remove it then flash the rom without it. I do it with apks and was wondering is aroma is removable or are these rom systems needing it.

It should be. Which rom has it and I'll take a look unless someone else can give you a quicker answer.

OK, what I remember reading somewhere is that some people had problems with rebooting from Aroma - so when you finish process with Aroma installer (also think it is a bit pointless, too many unimportant options, on upgrade [dirty flash] you have to remember which options you ticked, etc) do NOT reboot from Aroma installer. Uncheck the tickbox for reboot and just exit to 4EXT recovery, and then reboot from recovery. Worth a try.

Sabsa or even blackout. I'm gonna look in to it myself as well. I consider aroma useless.

do u guys think unrooting my phone ....like going s-on again and stocking it .....
and again rooting it will solve this problem?
because i have tried unticking the reboot from aroma too
P.S: I HAVE INSTALLED SABSA's and BLACKOUT EARLIER VERSIONS USING AROMA INSTALLER...AND THEY BOTH FLASHED N WORKED FINE......i dont knw why it is now creating a problem....
Give me a solution to execute.

I still don't get what your problem is. Are you having problems with only those two rims? Then no.
The problem with aroma (the few I've used) is when asked if you want to install this vs. that, both show up in the rom which defeats the point of using aroma. Granted, it's probably just a script that needs to be modified as to make it work, but most of the aroma installers that have been used give more problems than the rom itself. It does look nice and will be a fantastic installer once the bugs are ironed out.
