This new Nexus 7 gets better after using it for a while - Nexus 7 (2013) General

I'm loving this new model, but yesterday I wasn't so sure, had a bit of scrolling lag, didn't seem particularly quick, its as if you have to let the device work for a while so it irons out its own little wrinkles, today this tablet has been super smooth, fast and responsive, last night I had a bit of buyers remorse, tonight I'm thinking this thing amazing, highly highly recommend to anyone thinking about it, and if your wondering if its enough of an upgrade from the 1st Nexus then yes... I couldn't go back at all, Google have tool a major step forward with this device, I'm really excites to see what the N10 will be like

I have noticed the same thing. Today this tablet really started to fly.

I've had a BNIB 32gb sitting in my room since friday. My coworker messaged me before lunch, and we went to the local best buy to go take a look...I ended up buying one on impulse.
Trying to see if buyer's remorse will kick in before the return period, I'm sure it'll be much harder to give up if I actually touch it again...

wtf is a BNIB? lol

Personally I don't think its worth the upgrade over the original. But if you have the extra $300 to burn it's a nice tablet. If poetic had their revolution case out I might hang on to mine but I find myself using my old 7 more than the new cause of the case and kickstand.

Well you sell your old one and offset the cost of the new one. ~$100 is worth the upgraded hardware to me.
I'm waiting for a case to come out and find the new one kinda slippery because it is so thin and the rubber is on all sides.
My concern is while the OG N7 is still kicking today, come October it might not fair so well.
I'm a device whore and just love tinkering so I factor that into the difference in cost too.

The thing is, (not that i'm rolling in money here), is that the OG N7 still has more utility than the $100 or so I would get for it. I could dedicate it as a tablet for the kitchen, "public" livingroom tablet, etc etc.
That being said, all I do is watch videos on mine, or maybe browse the internet. All that extra speed won't do me a whole lot of good, but damn did the new N7 feel good in the store.

For me it was a no-brainer upgrade. My 16 GB launch model had long since run out of space (had a 32 GB USB stick along to carry my PS1 games. Sold it on Amazon last week for $130. The $140 difference to upgrade size, screen, speakers, speed, and storage was well worth the cost.

see anandtech mini review:
google has implemented fsTRIM in 4.3. This will manage "garbage collection" during idle cycles and keep the eMMC from becoming slow, and in perhaps may be the reason it seems faster day two.

The caches take some time to settle down. That's the first lesson I learnt when doing cache wipes. So prolly after a bit of use and time, caches have built up and you're running good.

Take it back and wait for the 32GB?

Before you start... yes.. i know it's a personal decision.. which is why i'm asking YOU. What's would YOU do in my shoes?... let's begin
I bought a 16gb a week ago. I have a ton of accessories coming in tomorrow for it. BGR dropped a screenshot of a 32GB model (along with a Galaxy Nexus II).
http://www.bgr.com/2012/10/03/google-nexus-7-32gb-galaxy-nexus-ii-rumor/
My only complaint about this tablet is the 16GB of storage... so here are the options.
A) Take it back and wait - I still have my xoom wifi with 32gb... which is why i'm spoiled on that storage amount
B) keep it and either sell it or give it away once the new one comes out and buy it outright - My mother or my sister would likely be getting this one while the other got my xoom. I hesitate on this one becuase I'm probably not going to get anything close to what I paid for it.
What would XDA do? chime in.
C) I wouldn't have bought it in the first place if 16GB wasn't enough for me.

If you really think you need the extra memory send it back.
With USB working on the nexus now storage is really no problem any more. With stick drives to hold video the 16gig n7 holds lots of apps.jmo
Wait for the next best one.

Wait for something better than that.

Storage isn't a problem for my device.
If you already have a tablet I'd say return the Nexus and wait for the 32 GB to drop, the thing is we have no idea when it could be. It may be next week, it may be black Friday or it may be Christmas.
I have the 8 GB that I bought a little over a month ago and when I'm sure the 32 GB is readily available (like I can go into staples and buy it) I'm going to sell my 8 GB for it and be happy with it for a while until e next big thing comes out next year.
Let me go ahead and quote some Sheryl Crow lyrics here.

No, return it and pick up the 32gb one. You've only had it a week and you just found out there is one with larger internal storage coming next week. Office Depot already has it listed on its website, though it's not available for purchase just yet. Staples has it in its warehouse right now waiting for the streetdate. This isn't a case of "Well, the Nexus 10 is coming soon, and there's a new Asus coming next spring", this is a case where you know it's coming in a week or two. Yes, otg storage fixes the issue nicely and cloud storage works great, but if you can do it and not have to go through any amount of serious trouble to do so, why not? It doubles the space you have internally right now in addition to the cloud and otg storage. There literally is no downside to returning it and picking up the newer model aside from having to run setup again. At the very least pay close attention on Monday when Google has their announcement, find out how long a wait it will be to get it. I'm fairly confident it'll be available within a week or two of the announcement.
Return it. 16 is too small. USB OTG is OK but still a pain in the butt.

Again, we're not talking about a theoretical tablet that may be coming someday soon, we're talking about an upgraded Nexus 7 that some lucky people have already been able to buy. I really don't understand some of the posts in this thread talking this guy out of swapping it out, it almost sounds like sour grapes here. "I'm stuck with a 16gb tablet, why should this guy luck out?" You're telling me that, given the chance, you wouldn't wait a couple of days and drive down to wherever you bought your tablet from and exchange it for one with twice the storage at zero cost to you? This may possibly get pushed back just a bit because of the Google announcement being cancelled, but you know it's coming within the next week or so, so go ahead and make the exchange.
Return it and get 32GB, even if you dont use all the storage at least you have it. I pre-ordered my 16GB from play, im now miffed theres a 32GB one as im always short on space. I use OTG but its messy compared to on-board storage, cloud space is all well and good when you have WiFi but frustrating when out and about. Gonna buy a 32GB when they come out then give 16GB to Mrs
More memory = greater power drain? Might be negligible though.
Also, storing tons of apps/media on the device may slow it down.
FWIW, I have had a 32GB SDcard in my Android Smartphone for about a year now, and 20GB is still free.
If both were the same price, I'd get the 32GB version.

UPDATE:
So after calling a local Staples they confirmed they had a 32gb nexus 7 in stock, but no amount of sweet talk would convince the sales lady to let me buy one. She is going to hold one for me until tomorrow morning though. Luckily I found the 32gb Nexus 7 listed at office depots website last night.. mysteriously that listing has disappeared today ... hmmmmm. I will swear to you on my life.. that the listing did in fact exist on the office depot website. Anyway.. it prompted me to list my N7 on which I just returned from selling.
So.. the current state of affairs is the 16gb Nexus is sold (got $220 for it), and staples is currently holding one for me to pick up tomorrow barring any disastrous acts of God or nature.

In a bit of a dilemma between the GNex and the N4

Right now, I have an Xperia X8. I've had this phone for over a year, and it's my first smartphone ever. During this year, I've flashed a lot so I know the basics around that stuff. And that's why I fell in love with Nexus phones. No possibilities of bricking your phone with just simply unlocking your bootloader (which I've done with my X8 once) and stuff like that.
Problem is, I currently live in Macedonia. Here, the new GNex costs 300 euros with a one year warranty. There's still no Nexus 4 here, but my friend's dad is in the US right now, and he may be able to buy one for me, but he'll be back here in about 2 months. And I can get the GNex in less than a week here. I already have the money as well. If he buys the Nexus 4 for me from the US, it'll cost about 300-320 euros. So the price is pretty much the same.
Now here's the problem: I don't know if I should wait for the Nexus 4, or just buy the GNex. I've been really impatient about buying a new phone. My brother bought a GNex a couple of weeks ago, and it's really good, especially for my standards.
The Nexus 4 is basically a performance upgrade, but mostly in heavy gaming. And I'm not really a heavy gamer. I only play small games like Temple Run and stuff like that, and not so frequently. And those run very smoothly in my brother's GNex. Even NFS:MW runs smoothly, and it's a heavy game.
What I don't like about the N4 though, is the fact that it's completely made of glass and there's a big chance I can break it. Plus, if I buy it from the US, the charger won't be compatible here. And I'm afraid that if I use some other one, it may not be good for the phone's battery. But that's just a theory of mine, not sure if it's actually true. And I've read that many people have had to exchange their original shipments because of some hardware factory bugs. And there's no possible way I can exchange mine.
Your input would be greatly appreciated. I really have no idea what to do. I'm leaning more towards the GNex though.
TLDR: Have to wait 2 months for Nexus 4, and less than a week for a new GNex. Same price here. Which one should I buy?
I was in the same situation 2 months ago. My two brothers have the Gnexus and I decided to wait for the N4, i had a friend in the US and asked them to order one. I waited impatiently for 1 month(it actually got delivered 10 days after i placed the order, but i had to wait another 3 weeks for the guy to come back to Jordan).
Anyway watching reviews/comparisons between the Gnex and N4 I thought they are almost identical, i thought the N4 is just a minor upgrade at best. Now whenever i look at the Gnex or hold the two phones in my hand i know for sure I made the right decision. The N4 performs quite better and is snappier in general, the Gnex screen looks pixelated and blurred compared to the N4's. Also it looks better and feels better in the hand, plus the 2GB of RAM is a huge advantage.
Thats my opinion , so I say wait for the N4 and hopefully you wont regret it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Having owned both I would wait for the n4. Better screen, better hardware, feels and looks better, and it will receive support from Google a bit longer than the GNex. Just protect that back glass on the n4.

Nexus 4 is better in every way
I can't understand why you would get a "dated" model, when you can get a new one that's better in every point of view. Nexus 4 is one helluva phone and at least 50% of issues you're reading about here, are a bit over exaggerated imho. Go for it.
EDIT: And don't order it from the US, wait till it arrives to your country, they're just beginning to come back to stock..
Get the Nexus 4! I've had both and it's a safe bet to wait and grab the N4!

the only thing you would need to ask yourself is, do i want to wait ?
also what will you be doing on the phone ?
do you need the quad core/ 2gb ram ? compared to the gnex ?
u want removable battery or no ?
you want IPS screen or AMOLED ?
price obviously isnt a problem
its just your preferences.
overall the nexus 4 is of course better than the gnex.
But the gnex is still an amazin phone
The N4 is better in every way for sure, but my concern would the warranty and tech support. The defect rate for the N4 seems high. I had to do an RMA once and the second unit's wallet app doesn't work out of the box. Had to deal with Google support over a period of two weeks. Don't know how well the N4 is supported in your country, but you may want to take that into account.

Yeah, the warranty is a huge problem. Well, not the actual one year warranty as much as the fear of getting a defected phone and not being able to exchange it due to the phone already being brought back to my country. But, the above posts suggest that I shouldn't worry about that. Why did you have to do an RMA the first time? I don't use Google Wallet so I don't really care about that.

The first phone had a busted ear piece. You can hear constant buzzing no matter you are on a call or not. It also had bad crackling sound (like a blown speaker) while on call. There is a thread about that. Seems to be quite common, at least among early hardware revision.

[Q] [B]Serious Dilemma, Sold Old Nexus, New coming in September, What to do ???[B]

Hello,
I am in a serious dilemma
I was anxiously waiting for the New Nexus 7 dubbed as Nexus 7 II. I was waiting for it like anything and checking it daily for months if anything new came up about the device until yesterday, it was officially announced.
However, I am very disappointed. The disappointment is not because of the device but due to the fact when it will release in the UK . I sold my nexus 7 first generation last week and my xperia so I could buy New nexus 7 and a new phone. Well, I love the new nexus but the problem is it won't release in the UK till September. I was expecting it to come to the UK the same week as it happened last year. Now without a tablet n a proper phone (using HTC incredible s in terrible condtion) I feel terrible. Hooked to technology and couldnot stay without it, I am not sure what to do.
To make matters worse, I be travelling to Malaysia/Thailand on august 9 and I won't be back by December due to some assignments.
I ask for suggestions what should I do.
I am going to get a phone for sure tomorrow so phone wouldnot be a problem.
My plan was to get a cheap phone and a Nexus 7 2 so I can manage between the two. One has to be cheap !
Hear are my choices, but if you think of anything better, please do not hesitate to reply.
1) Get a normal android phone for about GBP 100-150 max and get a cheap tablet and wait till December till I buy a new Nexus 10 or Nexus 7.
I personally like 8" Tablets. Will there be an 8 incher by then?
2) Get Nexus 7 again and wait till 2014 to buy a third generation. Would it live long enough to see Key Lime Pie ?
3) Get Nook Ebook Reader, the simple touch, get a better phone and just read books till then and use my phone for all the stuff.
4) Get a flight to USA, get two nexus 7 2, come back to the UK and then travel to Malaysia. [I wish I could afford such a lavish trip ]
You can understand how much I am willing to get a new Nexus 7 but at the same time, the disappointment of not having it till next year is killing me. I am just thinking of getting a Nook ebook reader and do everything else on my phone.
What do you suggest !!!
EDIT : I got my Nexus 7 and the sad part is , the top speakers do not work In another situation, one after another

You can buy from amazon, then use mail forwarding company like shipito or comgateway.
That's what I've done, very cheap
What about buying a used one off eBay or other sites like Craigslist, etc.

hello again all of you,
for the price of nexus 7 2012, i was getting nexus 2013 in US through a friend so i skipped the old one and asked a friend to get it for me. now the problem is that her littler sister's coming who is only 12. her mom agreed to put nexus in her suitcase but the girl wont have any handcarry luggage. Now i m a bit uncertain again as i checked drop test video at youtube n few bumps wont turn new nexus 7 on. I know the aircarriers usually don't care about fragile stickers and throw things around? Thus there is a chance i might get nexus but not in working condition. So is there any way to make it shock proof?
should i go ahead n pay the 270$ price tag or wait. I have to sent the money to US so please reply quickly. thanks alot in advance
I personally wouldn't trust it in a bag with no proper packaging to secure it from bumps and bruises so to speak.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Leave it packed in the box and wrap it in bubbles, it will be just fine. And put it in between some clothes in the middle of the suitcase. Or the girl can take it out and carry it in her pocket as her personal device.
When you think of it, delivery companies don't usually handle packages very well, and stuff still comes trough okay. Also whole crates of N7s travelled by ship from china and they are still fine.
I ordered a cell phone from amazon recently, there were now bubble wraps or anything, just an original box, wrapped in amazon carton, the phones box had some bruises, but the phone itself is fine. That was only from italy to slovenia but still.

Thank you for your help. Appreciated!
The nexus has been bought and it is arriving in a week now. So this is all decided.
I asked her Mom to open it and check for any defects in case any just to be on the safe side. Moreover, the girl is 11 or 12 so giving a device in her hands is a bit risky. Bubble packing makes sense and I already had thought about putting it in between clothes. I hope someone else tags along and can put it in carry on luggage. I will specially ask for bubble packing and keep it between clothes etc though.
In past, I have carried my devices(phones in socks, boxes etc) in plane for so many times and I never had a problem yet, once i bought a toy for my brother and it was in my luggage and it was slightly damaged/broken from its side however I was manage to fix the tires back(Big monster truck about 5 kgs)
Nexus has more weight than a normal phone and also it's very prone to drops as i saw the video on android police or android authority.
That just terrifies me!
Everything is fine, it came just fine and she just brought it without even opening it.
I had a faulty speaker though which started working on its own after some heavy gaming (Heat required for flux to melt a bit I guess )

How much can I get for my N4?

I upgraded to the OPO near the end of October and my Nexus 4 16GB is just sitting around and not in use.
This is aimed more at UK users.
It is in excellent pristine condition (no scratches front or back as they have screen protectors) and I have included loads of accessories including cases and spare screen protectors.
I have advertised it on a local selling page for £115 and gather some interest. I am wondering if you guys think this is an acceptable price?
I have taken a peek on eBay and seen one going for £150 and the bid hasn't ended. But that is the only exception I can't find others.
Should I expect more for the phone? Or should I sell it at this price?
Cheers.

Just had a quick look and £120 seems the average. £150 is high and I don't think you'd get that.

Thanks mate.
I've had a look again myself and that's what I'm seeing too. I have a buyer lined up for tomorrow for £115.
Should I just go ahead and pull the trigger? I will miss the phone had some fond memories with it, but it doesn't have much use now.

Personally, I think you'll get nostalgic and regret selling it. Use it as a test mule for ROMs for your OnePlus One, since most ROMs available for for both. And it never hurts to have a back-up phone. Or something smaller when you don't want so large a phone (is that a OnePlus One in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?).
Sell it if you need the cash, I guess, but unless you're short on January's rent, my advice is to hang on to your Nexus 4.
I've kept so many handsets, just in case, then regretted it later when they never got touched, but it's your call mate. If you have a buyer lined up, I'd got go for it.

Toss a coin, see a lawyer, read the other threads, etc...
Read the other threads.
Anyway buy if you need one ASAP.
It's a great phone!! I purchased a 64gb on amazon 2 weeks ago and have zero regrets. Remember that the next "flagship phone" is always on the way!! If you like it buy it

I've gone back three pages and didn't see another thread on this...I'm sure they exist but who wants to dig?
Anyway, I've owned two of these devices and had issues with both. The first one at launch was the plain aluminum, which I sent back because I wasn't happy with the feel. It felt "hollow" for lack of a better word. I don't know how to explain it; coming from the Nexus 6, I expected this solid aluminum beast like the HTC M7 when it came out.
The second one, a couple of months later, was the black, which had the weird pinkish screen hue going on. On top of that, when I bought a couple of different cases, the removal of said cases caused the phone to tweak and bend. But not bend as in bend test videos, rather if you took one hand and grabbed the top, other hand grabbed the bottom, and twisted it (top twist left and bottom twist right). My phone didn't sit flat on a table after that, so I returned it.
I've read around that some of the most recently manufactured units have a fixed screen, so I'm thinking about giving this a third try. I've since moved on to an iPhone 6s+, but still have my Nexus 5, 6 and Galaxy S6 Edge+.

I have a thread created here that is similar, OP.
I want this device as well, but instead of posing a question "Do I ..." I posed the question "Would YOU buy this phone again tomorrow"
The question really isn't whether there are good deals out there for this device, it's whether or not a year into this device people are still happy with it, and on XDA that's a hard thing to get a yes on..
There were some things that have come up with the best buy deal... For instance it's my understanding that if you buy from Best Buy you will only have Huawei's warranty and not Google's... Might make you look elsewhere?
Anyways... Good luck. Ill be picking mine up this week somewhere

I bought a refurb for $316 from BB. Arrived in like new condition. I would think twice about paying $399 for this. The only reason I purchased the 6p because I will be travelling overseas and need a new phone. My 2013 Moto X is aging and very frustrating to use. If you are in no hurry, wait.

Yeah... True...
I have a V10 that is not going away. I really am picking this phone up to satisfy my flashing needs, plus it's a nexus phone!!!
It will probably be something I use as a daily driver at some point... Maybe... I have 2 batteries for my V10, an external charger for the spare, and a 200gb SD card.. I can't see me choosing the 6P over the V10 to keep with me on the go, or with my sim in it ... That may change...
You like the refurb? I thought about buying the refurb... Don't want to get screwed out of the Google warranty...

I bought mine @ Amazon/PrimeDay for $370/64gb plus tax with Prime free same day shipping, so keep checking Amazon website.
I sold mine S7 Edge, then bought HTC 10 which was a disaster (battery life literally was going down 4-5% when idle) and decided to use vanilla android. i see no difference in day to day use/look & feel compared to my previous phones

For me, the most important difference that I like is that Google's phones are updating more frequently (monthly now) than others. Official Nougat is just around the corner for Nexus phones but others have to wait!!!
Just picked up a Gold 64G for $350 privately. Good deal I thought.
BUY....no WAIT....no BUY.....no WAIT.....I'm not sure....what was the question again?
I just picked mine up from Best Buy today. Love it, I'm going for a marriage license.
