No, you don't have to mess with USB debugging at all since you are using fastboot. Just look again, it's somewhere there.
You can also do:
fastboot devices
to see if your device is being recognized.

It seems it was some old drivers from the old N7. I uninstalled all the old drivers and it worked.
One more thing. This works on 4.3 ? I just got the update today since it comes loaded with 4.2.2 ?
Thanks you

Thanks so much. Way faster than sdk. Couldn't even get it load right. But your toolkit made it so easy. Thanks again

I did it on 4.3, this should work for both 4.2.2 and 4.3 though.

I just can't seem to get the drivers to stick. 5 hours in and my crappy windows XP desktop is about to go out the Window. Any helper with these Damn drivers would be appreciated.

Depends on what you want to achieve, it could help if you mention that?
If you want to flash a recovery you need to do s-off and then flash CWM from rom manager.
How do I do s-off? I tried using the window application on this forum but it wouldn't work.
I use Linux

[RECOVERY: NOT WORKING] Nexus S 4G CDMA - recovery-clockwork-3.1.0.0

Once Koush fixes the recovery you should be able to find it in the link below:
To install:
Copy to your sdk tools folder and run:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-[version]-crespo4g.img
Here are the links:
Main recovery download page
Just tried it myself and it does NOT work. I had to flash back to standard crespo recovery.
The menu is there but all I get is black screen when any of the menus are chosen.
Can anyone confirm that this is in fact NOT working and it's not just me?

It's not working. It's been out for a few days now. We are waiting for him to fix it. This was supposed to be beta anyways.
Thanks for confirming. I dint's see it there before.
This started me thinking if the Samsung Epic 4G CDMA recovery wound't work better. It's got the same hardware (no NFC) and is a CDMA phone.

haha, this is actually funny because i did manage to royally eff up my ns4g yesterday, and was totally unable to fix it. my pc for some odd reason wont accept the drivers for the phone, so i had to root it with my mac. and vmware wont recognize the phones usb storage at all. i didnt want to take the time to put together another pc and load up windows just to root a phone.
so i am patiently waiting.
is there any other recovery that is recommended?

So if we are using 3.0.2.4 we need to update? Its working fine. And if yes do I need to push through ADB? I wish I was a little smarter when it comes to this stuff. Thanks in advance.

There is no 3.0.2.4 for the Nexus S 4G. You are using a Nexus S recovery. Easiest way is to download ROM Manager, select flash recovery and select "Nexus S 4G"

Just installed 3.1.0.1 from download through rom manager. Reboot into recovery. Boots to bootloader. Bootloader shows no boot or recovery image. I guess I'll download it from hear and ADB'it.
Edit: Flashed download through Fastboot and it is working fine now. Thanks to all involved.

stuck on ics leak a501can't flash bootloader

Its been like 3 weeks since i've flashed the leak thinking "hmmm" maybe getting the stock bootloader will make it easier to get the unlocked version ( i flashed the a500 leak) obviously i was wrong and since then i tried every possible way ;roll back methods , afterota, nvflash, apx flash tool but the problem is on nvflash and apx flash tool it always gets stuck on a resume mode command... what should i do ? I need seriously help thanks in advance though
Just to make it clearer, i am a rogers (tm) user in canada and my current firmware says 4.0.3 but its the leaked version also i am rooted and busyboxed... i have a windows XP computer and a samsung mirco usb cable for this device... i've tried flashing the new bootloaders since v6 but no luck has been made

Follow this guide to the letter. I had a lot of issues with this until I realized that I wasn't following the directions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
I used the Blackthund3r method, it is real easy. Download all the packages you want to use. Make sure you have the USB driver loaded and a fresh reboot. Make sure you have your CPUID and use Vache's tool to get your SBK. There are a lot of steps if you miss one you are not going to get it to work. Civato's guide is the easiest I have found to follow.
Good Luck
Thanks for your help, i'm gonna try this

Is there a Root Method for N4 Similar to Odin for S3?

I was reading at a couple of root methods for the N4 and they all seem a lot more involved then rooting an s3( that's what I currently have )...
For the S3, I simply put the phone into download mode, plug the usb to the PC, run odin, run the tar file, go into cwm and flash supersu.. takes about 3 minutes.
I never owned a nexus device so unlocking the bootloader is new to me.. just wanted an opinion from users that have rooted.
I don't know but they have a tool by wug fresh that us sooo easy just plug In and follow steps

Ask for help - I gave up that I really can't figure out how to update my ROM......

Dear bros, I am really frustrated since it's been months since I had this robot down error when I tried to upgrade my rom via OTA.
I am stil using the original 4.1.2 and every time I got OTA for 4.2.2, I had this error. I read many posts and I understand there's different ways to fix the problem but I didn't manage to success. Could someone read the attached error information and kindly let me know what should I do?
Really appreciate for the help in advance.

Unfortunately I don't think updating CWM will help, I suggest you try to install TWRP, flash the ROM, then re-install CWM if CWM is your favorite (or you have CWM backups) but yeah, TWRP is your best bet right now.

If you want to update to 4.3 get the images for your device from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, uncompress and run the flash all scrip inside. Be sure to backup your d data as you will lose all of it (including internal sd).
This will update your hboot and radio to the latest version.
