Ask for help - I gave up that I really can't figure out how to update my ROM...... - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear bros, I am really frustrated since it's been months since I had this robot down error when I tried to upgrade my rom via OTA.
I am stil using the original 4.1.2 and every time I got OTA for 4.2.2, I had this error. I read many posts and I understand there's different ways to fix the problem but I didn't manage to success. Could someone read the attached error information and kindly let me know what should I do?
Really appreciate for the help in advance.

Unfortunately I don't think updating CWM will help, I suggest you try to install TWRP, flash the ROM, then re-install CWM if CWM is your favorite (or you have CWM backups) but yeah, TWRP is your best bet right now.

I don't know how TWRP or CWM are related to OTA failure but I am definitely going to try install / update them tonight, thanks bro!

If you want to update to 4.3 get the images for your device from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images, uncompress and run the flash all scrip inside. Be sure to backup your d data as you will lose all of it (including internal sd).
This will update your hboot and radio to the latest version.

[Q] I still have S-Off

After all the moaning and groaning about loosing root after the OTA I bothered to lauch into boot loader today and check my "S" status, and it is OFF. does this mean that i can flash a custom recovery? If so, where can I find a flashable version of Clockwork or amon?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Put this file on the root of your sdcard and boot into the bootloader.
thanks I'll try that out when I get home.

If you used unrevoked forever to achieve root, you will not lose s-off from an ota. After receiving an ota you can simply flash a PC36IMG of a custom recovery and then flash the latest superuser.zip from your recovery.

Thanks guys, i got it done but had troubles with superuser not flashing. Had to go to androidsu.com and get the ginger compatible version. Didnt even know there was such a thing. Only issue now is that it kicks an error in rom manager when trying to fix permissions. Any ideas?

I think you need to flash a rom now. I don't think you can add superuser to the recent OTA. Once you flash a rom, you will be rooted, just not on stock (unless you flash the stock GB).

Remove rom manager and reinstall it. when you try to fix permissions this time you'll see the SU prompt to accept.
You need to flash a rooted rom now... Soff does not provide you with SU permissions inside stock rom.

Thats what Im doing next, uninstalling it and reinstalling. It does currently get su permission, but something just may not be right.
You can have su on the OTA, you just have to go to androidsu.com and select the version for gingerbread. Worked for me....
Try downloading titanium backup from the market. when it first loads click on problems at the bottom. this will install the newest version of busybox which may help the rom manager issue.
Sorry, edit...

Could it be from trying to run fix permissions in Rom Manager but having Amon Ra loaded? Or maybe still the wrong version of SU? I believe there's an app in the market by the same guy to fix Superuser version.

are you using a custom recovery? you can push a rom to your device via adb. or you can use fastboot to flash the official stock img, which might be better. then youll have to reroot. and im sorry, the comment about people continuing to try and use chainfire 3d wasnt really aimed at you, it was just general. i see this same thing almost every day with people getting stuck after using chainfire. btw, out of curiousity, why would you need to use chainfire 3d on a quad core phone?

Now you need to flash stock ROM and if you are newbie use toolkit or step by step one of guide on this forum. Toolkit is a easiest way but If you want to learn smth use guide

A little search would go a long way because this has been answered a million times already, and posting it again isn't going to make the devs find a solution any quicker. No, there's no way to root the latest update.

Just curious, but does anyone think or know if it's possible to root the phone when on 98.18.78, then use Voodoo Rootkeeper to save the root, then do an OTA update to the latest 98.18.94, and finally use Voodoo Rootkeeper to restore the root? Please let me know. Thank you.

Thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. So if I have a phone with 98.18.78 that is locked (I know I won't be able to unlock it), do I follow this guide to root the phone? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379833
I am a little confused about your Rom Manager post. Is that used for flashing a Photon Q recovery that can then flash TWRP/CWM and/or ROMs? Is this possible even is I am locked on my BL?
Should I root using your guide, Voodoo protect/unroot, update OTA (still having stock recovery), and then restore root? Should I have Voodoo installed on my SDCard rather than on the phone? Thanks for all your help!

Need com.motorola.blur

Hey guys I heard there is an update coming and decided today to just look if my phone is up-to-date or not. Well when I search for updates it tells me I need an motorola-acc...Stupid me just deleted all the motorola-service apps a while ago and of course I didnt make an backup.
Could somebody maybe upload following apps:
Com.motorola.blur.setup
Com.motorola.blur.updater
Com.motorola.Motocare
I dont know if that fixes the problem but its worth a try. If you have a better solution let me know.
Not sure if this will work. Probably best to restore with the stock firmware.

. This is a strange thing today . i restored my backup which i had done when i first rooted my willy in 2012 . today i restored its backup from cyanogenmod recovery and suddenly i got a 4mb update right from official HTC . OTA_Buzz_Froyo_hTC_Asia_India_2_25_720_4-2_25_720_1_release_270480yuz9aaesnb40rr2p
well this update contains ehancements,including:-emergency call support due to new network configuration change...
but i was SOFF the phone might gave a signature error with the security certificate. so the HTC remained on the htc boot logo.... Anyone interested in this file let me know i will upload it,,

well, it seems to update most apps by a little bit, but what the updates are i am not sure. The thing thats confusing me is that the date stamps are all "wrong". this is dated for september 1st 2008, but if it was new it would be 2014 or similar. best guess is that this was an update for your old rom that you never got before you flashed a custom rom but i dont think its "new" as such. If you wanted to flash it you would need to flash the stock recovery from a ruu as i suspect it wont be compatiable with our edify recovery versions.
well i had updated everything the time when i rooted.

You wont have to go back to s-on at all
Just flash the stock recovery from fastboot. then run the update from the stock os, afetr the reboot flash clockworkmod recovery.
Also since google dropped support for froyo on the google play store this wont solve that issue
