When will more AOSP roms become available for i9500? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see they're a lot of roms that were available for the s3 (slim bean, carbon, liquid etc.) available on the i9505 that aren't available for the i9500... Anyone know when this might change?
Cheers

If somebody steps up to develop, which might never happen. Since the veterans swear not to touch any Exynos device ever again.
S3 has lots of roms mainly bec. Steve from cm was working on it before and suddenly gave up, yeah that's right he gave up bec. of Exynos. The rest was history.
If you bought an exynos device and was hoping for AOSP support, you're gonna have a bad time

There is already a nightly for the international version so probably in few days / weeks a nightly will hit our version, I hope..
Is anybody even working on a CM9? I think it will take quite some time as the cpu and antenna is different on the US version since it uses LTE and all developers seem to concentrate on the international version only.

that's two drivers that have to change. porting it from the internation version shouldn't be hard. I'm staying with this buggy unofficial version on my EVOLTE cause I can't stand Sense or TouchWiz
I might stay stock until jellybean comes out, and I have a feeling our guys will do a pretty good port on it.
try this for now, if it's gui stuff
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746427
I believe CM has already announced that as soon as Jelly Bean source is out (since they're already at RC status with CM9), they will stop development on CM9 and go forward with CM10.
From the CM Google+ page: Our goal is to release a stable CM 9.0.0 (and any needed .1’s). After that, we will work on CM7 and CM10 only. As stated above, CM9 devices are highly likely to get CM10, so maintaining a separate class of devices for CM9 only is inefficient.
Now back to the original post: I also miss CM9. I think CM9 is far superior to TouchWizz. Once CM9/10 is released for my GS3, I'm rooting and switching.
I will also likely never buy anything but a Nexus phone in the future, and in some ways, regret not purchasing one this time. The only saving grace is that buying a Nexus and switching to a T-Mobile Value plan would have only saved me $5 per month due to my grandfathered plan, so it's actually cheaper in the long run for me to get the GS3 on contract.
In my opinion, the galaxy s3 is way better than the nexus, even with the nexus running jelly bean.

Sadly I think I agree with pig vomit. I miss my captivate running pure ics.
Can't wait for some Jelly Bean hotness. I'd certainly settle for pure ics for now
By the time they release a CM10 for our phone the next Nexus will be out. Rumor has it Google will introduce 5 Nexus models this year. Let's hope that's true. I learned that with Android phones if you really want good rom development you need a Nexus or wait for months on end for a decent rom like CM.

Yep, same here. While Touchwiz isn't my favourite, I can definitely manage using it for another month or two until CM10 is released. At that point, I don't think I can wait for Samsung's ridiculously slow updates to make its way to me.

[Q] Google's ROM? [UPDATE: June 30th]

Hey guys
So Google will be releasing their own version of the Galaxy S4 ("Clean" Version) pretty soon.
Will we be getting the chance to install this ROM over our current phones? (i9505 + i9500)
Or is it just for people who bought this specific phone?
Thank you,

With regards to aosp roms, the i9500 is doomed, my friend. Doomed. Anyone compiling aosp for i9500 is wasting their time because exynos 5410 is even worse than 44xx.
So the joke's on you for not buying the qcomm version.

I live in Europe as well but luckily they chose to market the LTE variant here. You could have imported an i9505, though.
Look, what they release on arndale has nothing to do with what they have in their phones. If I'm wrong on that, I'd request an insight from @Entropy512 because he knows a lot about this stuff.

Remember, this is a stock Android UI - so far, nothing more (such as AOSP support) has been announced, and I suspect it's unlikely. So it actually will be of zero benefit for AOSP bringups like CM.
As far as porting it just like porting a TW firmware between Qcom devices? Maybe, I don't know how successful people have been in doing such a thing. (e.g. if they've got it as automated as I did with Hellraiser on the I777).
Since I9500 is Exynos, the Google Edition is of zero use for that device.
As I said long ago when the Google Edition was first announced:
If it's not AOSP supported, it basically means nothing
If it's AOSP supported and qcom, it's nice but not a huge benefit since CAF is already quite good
If it's AOSP supported and Exynos, that's a game changer and would be what would cause me to consider Samsung again. But we know for certain it's not Exynos, and it's highly unlikely it'll be AOSP supported - Samsung's underlying base software is too Samsunged (hacked up) in the non-GE GS4s for them to have AOSP support any time soon. The Google Edition is just covering up their crappy underlying software with a less sucky UI as far as I can tell. We'll know for sure when the device is released.

They won't be able to include Samsung drivers into the device. If you use a non stock rom now watch on won't work because it doesn't know where to find the infrared.
I hope that Google does it right and gets the sensors to work but at this point it doesn't seem like they will. Maybe Samsung will release the drivers someday

I'm actually thinking of selling my device and getting the snapdragon variant.
I heard there's going to be a version with the snapdragon 800 + LTE
so I might wait for that and replace my phone.

s3 got 4.2.2 a long time ago, including leaks and official ones.
SM was talking about leak, not official one.
Why s3 to get a leak? Why? They already got 2 leaks :what: . we should get a test firmware (leak) ... We deserve it
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
The update is for the S3... If you read the News piece carefully, you'll see that it says - A "PERFECT" test update. Why "perfect"? Simply because Samsung released floppy and buggy test updates (4.2.2) a while ago for the S3, and they were a flop. So before they release the final 4.2.2 for S3, they will release a "prefect" test update.
Do you remember the time when the S2 got the LSJ Jellybean leak, and then it got yet another leak which was less buggier and optimized for S2?
Apparently, I see the same happening for the S3 here...
But don't worry, I'm sure we'll see 4.2.2 on this flagship phone one day...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Not necessarily, there's still the #40million hash tag, and the s2 sold 40 million... The s3 sold in excess of 50.
Guess we won't know for definite until sammobile decide to share...

Indeed ... also 4.3 does have some interesting features but nothing major from my perspective ... also i think they won't separate the editions for those major updates and they'll roll out them for all s4 together ... but that's only an assumption ... and i would be shocked if any s4 doesn't get 5.0 KLP update at all ...

Ok, so you want to support this fuc..king behaviour of Samsung by buying another phone from them....great idea....
The Note 1 got the 4.1 update around August or June if I'm not mistaken, while the Note 2 released in September last year.
The Note 3 released in September this year, luckily we've seen leaks or I would assume a similar timeline.
Surprising the S3 already has 4.3 rolling out before we do, they've already seen a major update, while all we got was 4.1.1 -> 4.1.2.
Granted, it sold in vastly larger quantities.
Even lower devices like the Grand, Mega have already seen major updates to 4.2.2 in their relatively short lifespan.
/frustration.
