Camera Not Focusing/Working - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have a Canadian S4 and my camera is not working. It is similar to the link below but the camera does not focus for far away and it simply does not take a picture after the first one unless I clear app or restart the phone. This issue is apparent on multiple roms (i337m & i9505) but I recently restored the phone to a stock rom with the same issue. Clearing the cache/data does not work. Any of you guys have this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried re-installing the factory stock firmware via ODIN or Kies? You can find more info on it in the Development section. If that doesn't work I think you may have some hardware / warranty related issues. Good luck.
You can also try to download a camera app from the Play store and see if the camera functions OK with a different App.

If pictures & music is in Ext. SD Card than it will not erase as factory reset only erase Internal memory.
factory reset is not solving issue
Hi all,
I am using diamond rim 5.1 on note 2. I have the exact same issue. I have done factory reset . But the issue still persists. Is there anything else I could try?

Stock Camera Frequently Crashes

I just noticed today that my stock camera app will not even launch. It just says not responding. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, were you able to resolve this? I tried doing a factory reset and it did not work. Please help me!!!

I had no idea. Do you have that issue too or is it just a random group of people that are experiencing this?

I had that issue but no longer after B20 update and factory reset....
I always do factory reset after updates
I've figured out what the problem was. It all started when I made a change to the build.prop enabling the hidden multi-window setting. Even when I tried removing the change, saving it and rebooting my device, the camera still crashed. Factory reset does nothing either. I've tested this a couple times to confirm that this was the issue. The only "fix" was to restore my device from a prior backup that did not involve a modified build.prop.

I have a different phone. The axon mini. My camera once was crashing when switching to manual mode. Nothing could help other than a nandroid restore.
Time when by and accidentally I found the fix.
Thanks great the build pro file from a stock rom. Go to system folder delete ir rename the old one and paste the new one there.
Reboot and ......boom....cameta sorted. No factory reset or restore needed.

Hi, is this problem fixed? And I not sure if we meet the same problem here, could you sheer a screen shot, thanks !

Camera Failed Error (and possibly help with stock recovery)

I bought my Galaxy S7 Edge about a month ago and I've been loving it, however today I went to use a camera app from the play store (that I've been using fine for almost as long as I've had the phone) and it failed to open.
No error message.
I thought that was weird so I opened Snapchat.
Camera wouldn't load.
I then opened the default camera app and I got a simple "Camera failed" error.
I did some reading and couldn't find much, but read some suggestions to clear system settings or remove the SD card and reboot. Another suggestion was to wipe the system and dalvik caches from recovery. I would do this if I were capable, but I currently have TWRP recovery, which normally wouldn't be a problem, but TWRP currently can't get permission to write anything unless I wipe my phone, which I'm far from ready to do.
I've deleted the camera app from the play store. No dice.
I've cleared all system settings. No dice.
I've removed my SD card and rebooted. No dice.
So I essentially have two questions here:
Most pressing, how could I go about getting my camera to work?
If only through recovery, how do I return to stock recovery so that I'm actually capable of doing anything in it?
EDIT- I just discovered that I'm unable to turn on the flash, as it's being "used by Camera". I feel like that could be important.
Not saying your problem is the same as mine, but My camera just quit working, hardware issue but my selfi cam worked.... I tried all the online tutorials even went as far as restoring to stock, nothing brought it back.
Anyways it happened about three weeks after I purchased it . I bought it from Costco so it was able to exchange it

I have no way to know if it's back cam only, as the camera app is nonfunctional (cant switch cameras) despite being able to open (Can't switch in Snapchat either). I have yet to try flashing to 100% stock or factory resetting, and am hesitant because I have a lot of data on the phone to backup. I also got it from a Canadian carrier and considering the custom recovery currently on, I'm also hesitant to send it in right away.
Exact same problem here about to backup and reset will reply with results. Have you tried running the camera app from safe-mode?

It did not work... I did a backup, wiped cache, and wiped data/factory reset the device. I am thinking it maybe time to call in an RMA.

I'm sorry to hear that
In a couple hours I'll back up my data and do the same. Will let you know if it resolves my issue or not.

Update here. The factory reset didn't fix mine either at least I got TWRP working now. Not that that matters if I end up having to send it in.

Stock camera freezes

My stock camera freezes whenever i open it for the first time,i have to switch modes to get it working.
as long as the camera is in memory it works fine but the moment you clear it and open the app it happens again.
I am gcam installed and is having no such issue but i prefer the stock camera.
did factory reset issue persists.
I have unlocked bootloader so i was thinking of uninstalling the camera app from adbfast tool.
should i do that?
can i install the stock camera app using the apk?
and can anyone provide the stock camera apk to try the same.
will unistalling the camera cause any issue?
any help will be appreciated
i am having the indian k20 running miui global 10.3.6
this is a software issue in global rom you have to wait for update to fix it or go for xiaomi.eu rom if you unlocked the bootloader.

I'm not sure, but i think he meant the default settings in the camera app, not whole phone?

Had same issue. Enabling location permission seems to solve it. Thanks a lot.
After en.miui.com forums shutdown it has been tough to get help.

This is what actually worked! I had no update available (miui 11.0.3), didn't want to factory reset my phone and the photo app reset didn't solve anything, but activating the location permission did! Thank you.
