I got my OUYA - Ouya General

Mark this as spam if you which
the only real problem is the Update download speed but that isn't too bad it's just adding more FUN

I just got mine too. Setting it up now. It had problems seeing my WiFi a few times after it updated. It is right next to my router and seems to be iffy. I reset it and rescanned a few times and it seems to be better.
Right now I'm just downloading lots of games and getting my roms copied over to my external HDD. I'm liking it so far. Lots of the games are crude still. There are several that really peaked my interest though.

HD2 Arrived....

I received my HD2 about an hour ago, so far everything works really well.
I am downloading a CoPilot map at the moment, Australia. It gets better GPS reception in my house than iPhone 3GS did, actually locks onto signal.
Damn thing is fast, very nice.
I found Task Manager (basic version) under the Settings Tab > Miscellaneous > Task Manager. This may be in other versions, I just hadn't seen anyone mention it.
Congratz! Keep us posted on your cool toy

Hey congrats on joining the Leo club! Haha
Where are you getting the CoPilot map for Australia from?
Let us know how it goes
Nice to hear they have Aussie maps for CoPilot... have been having trouble getting a solid answer from any resellers.
Get mine 23rd.
Roll on Monday! (never though I'd EVER say that!!)
So far everything has been fine, friggin great machine.
SIZE...
It definately feels the right size to me, easy for me to hold and use.
SPEED...
Damn!!! <--- enough said
HTC SENSE...
Kinda cool, most of it works well. There are a few little issues with some aspects of it, having to back out of some meus as there is no Exit or "X" available. Nothing that would stop me from getting the device.
WIFI...
Connected straight away to my Billion 7404VNPX unit, didn't do a signal strength test - I will tomorrow. Using WPA2-PSK/AES security, no broadcast SID and MAC address restricted.
GPS/COPILOT...
Really quick to lock signal, average 10 seconds I would say. I have been impressed with CoPilot on the HD2, looks really nice. Saying that, CoPilot has a few annoying points. No "qwerty" keyboard and it thinks my street is only in one suburb, not the one I live in. I have seen this on the dedicated Navteq units as well - all the other GPS's are fine.
It actually picked up the sats in my house, first device I had do that. While it didn't find the sats everywhere in the house, I'd say it worked in 60% of it. Weakest was four sats, near an external wall it jumped to seven or more. That's better than my dedicated TomTom that I "used" to use.
It gave me the option to pick a map to download for the trial. I choose Australia for obvious reasons.
I really do like the ability to HIDE CoPilot, actual button on screen.
GPS/TOMTOM...
I am loading TomTom tonight and will update this tomorrow.
CALL QUALITY...
Better than my iPhone, noticeably. It is stronger and cleaner, where I normally would loose signal (iPhone 3GS) I didn't with the HD2.
BLUETOOTH...
Will test this tomorrow morning when I go out to Rhodes Shopping Centre.
VIDEO...
THe HTC Album played my videos that I ripped for my iPhone without any problems (*.mp4 and *.m4v). It wouldn't play an AVI I downloaded . So, I installed CorePlayer and it played the AVI without any problems. Video (DVDs) that I ripped for my iPhone worked without any additional work on my part, that's nice. More importantly, they looked great on the bigger screen.
I know some of you are concerned about it being able to play 720p etc. While nice, my main concern was not having to re-do videos I already had done, again. I don't, so to me that makes it a winner. I'll just keep making the videos the way I was, they looked great.
OK, I might fiddle with the next one I RIP to see what I can get working. I don't need to as the quality was fine already, but it will be fun to try (a.k.a. play).
KEYBOARD...
Yes, the HD2 is a sensitive "gentle" beast when typing. I hit the wrong key a couple of times hear and there today, just a matter of getting used to the keyboard. I didn't have any lag or anything like that. Only issue I saw was getting used to a much more responsive screen, light touch is all that's needed.
SMALL OS BOXES/ITEMS...
There are still remnants of WM, for obvious reasons, that you may run into if you roam about the device, which most of us on this forum will do. While it was fiddly trying to click on the small items, it wasn't anything major and since I don't roam about my device continually every day (once I get it configured I I leave it alone) I personally don't have a problem with it. Some of this may disappear with WM 6.5.1 - definately with WM7.
MS OFFICE 10 BETA...
Haven't played with this yet (installed it), waiting on getting Sharepoint 2010 BETA up and running next week (already have Exchange 2010 running). I'll then give it a go and see how it all works together.
SOFTWARE...
I've only installed a couple of things so far, I am running the latest version of everything. I checked every title before installing.
1. Resco File Explorer (no issues, running on Storage Card)
2. SPB Wallet (no issues, running on Storage Card)
3. PocketBible (had to soft reset three times before it would launch - working fine now, running on Storage Card)
4. Resco Soduko Touch (no issues running, graphics/text need update to support high resolutions (jagged edges), running on Storage Card)
5. CorePlayer (no issues, running on Storage Card) ***Change VIDEO OUTPUT to GDI***
6. Dutty's Task Manager (no issues running - have two task manager apps installed (one included with Leo is very basic), running on Internal storage) *** I disable Sense before installing this, then re-enabled it after finshed install.***
7. Skype (no issues, running on Storage Card)
I'll add more as I experience it... Going to load Electopia tonight and see how that goes.
Copilot
Copilot Australia map downloads straight to the device.
Very nice. It works well with pinch & zoom.
I can't for the life of me, active it.
There is no Aus version download online, and no way to get an activation number. I've emailed them but no answer for 3 days.

I agree the download to device and software is nice. I haven't tried activating it yet so I can't comment. Would really suck if you can't activate it. If you hear back anything definately let me know.
On another point...
For some reason Opera isn't renering some web pages very well (www.seek.com.au). If I go to the same page with IE it looks right. Normally I haven't had any issues with Opera, but for the time being I'm going to use IE as it is rendering pages better.
***UPDATE***
I've found the the Opera browser renders the majority of pages equal or slightly better than IE, however, not always.

Trying to learn

I have been surfing this site for awhile trying how to learn how to flash ROMs on my US tmobile HD2 and improve things on my HD2. I can honestly say I have learned nothing. I have searched and searched, but apparently I can't find simple, directions on how to install programs. I am absolutely new to all of this but would like a little push in the right direction. I am having a lot of problems with my phone and came here looking for some improving.
Some problems include:
-very low battery life (8 hours on low usage)
-a lot of lagging in the message portion. messages take a very long time to load.
-a lot of freezing
I would really like to learn how to install a radio. It seems like those make people happy. haha...
I have seen a lot of different things on this site that help fixes those problems, but I don't even know how to begin installing them on my phone.
This is my second HD2 i have gone through. I returned my first one, but the problems still persists. People seem to be enjoying their HD2's. I am not. Someone point me in the right direction please.
problems
Some of the things you might try is, make sure to use taskmanager to actually close all programs, don't let them run in background. Try deleting your messages, not only just delete, but ck deleted items folder, make sure you empty it regular, or set it to delete immediately. try turning off weather locations for cities. Also turn off auto update of emails & messages. After you do all this, see if any difference? Then can start adding them back, 1 at a time.can tell the 1's that cause problems. Several of these things helped mine big time, it runs smooth now.
I ended up returning the phone, again. I will wait patiently for Sprint's Evo.

Nexus 7 extremely slow :(

I got my Nexus 7 in the first batch from Gamestop on the day of release. Initially, the performance was very fast, even faster than my Galaxy S2. However, after a couple of weeks now, it has become extremely slow. It is still stock, havent even rooted it. It is a 16gb model, and has close to 10gb free. I have tried clearing cache, closing all running applications, restarting but nothing really has worked.
The problem is almost every app is very slow. I get a notification of an email, i click on it and then stare at the white email screen for almost 10 sec before it opens up (the regular email app). It almost feels like a different device now than what i bought few weeks back. Other applications that run equally slow - Google Reader, Chrome, WSJ (this is perhaps the worst), Fluent News Reader. I am not much into games so havent tried a lot of them.Oh, and it is no match now to my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket or even HP Touchpad Cm9 that i got rid of last week.
I don't want to exchange it as it does not suffer from all the other problems being reported here (and am afraid that the new one might exhibit those). Please help.
Just a guess, but you most likely loaded something on it that is doing that. Check what you have installed on it, perhaps uninstalling some of the larger things to see if you can figure out what is holding it up.
Stock Nexus 7 Image
If cleaning the device does not work, you can always flash back to the stock image, which can be found on developers.google.com
Be sure to backup your apps and data!
or for the most simple of us...
Setting>Privicy>Factory reset.
That will remove any app that might be causing it.
Be warned tho, i think on this device it wipes the internal storage...
how is your WiFi signal?
seeing how almost every app require internet access, the delay could be it trying to connect.
Actually I thought that too... but my wireless signal is very strong in my small apartment and i have 30mbps line. I checked with speednet app and i am getting 13mpbs down, 4 mpbs up on nexus 7.
I am happy that this seems like my issue only - i will try to remove apps one by one to see if it helps or worst case, i will do a factory reset.
I was wondering if there are any known culprit apps responsible for memory leaks or something.

I have noticed how mine has been very sluggish when there are apps upgrading in the background or installing, etc. Maybe turn off auto update for play store?

If you send me a PM, I'll give you my email address and I can help you narrow it down by using screenshots of your app drawer.
install watchdog task manager lite, it monitors app in the background and tells you which one is causing problems.
have you tried turning off gps (location service) and see if hats the issue?
same thing

Just wanted you to know you aren't alone here...I have been seeing the same exact behavior on mine. I have started to uninstall apps one by one. I must be a bad app or something. If not I'm gonna wipe it and start over. It does feel disconcerting to go from easily the best tablet experience I have ever had to it becoming so sluggish.
i have the same problem, mine did the same thing on stock, ran great for a week or two, then became unbearably slow. so i rooted it and it wiped all data and the problem seemed to be fixed. then another week or two passed and its back to slow. i found out after testing with quadrant it has something to do with the i/o on the device, because the i/o score was abnormally lower than all the devices. putting a custom kernel will help, but still the i/o score is still quite low. i dont want to wipe all data again and if anybody knows a fix it would be greatly appreciated
nexus 7 has Kingston eMMC, it is better then the crummy Prime Hynix eMMC, but is eMMC none the less, not proper NAND flash/SSD
Well you could've had a bad app that is bogging your system down. A factory reset may be the only option so you can start fresh

Check the cache size of your Google Playbook or Magazine apps. It keeps downloading large files (400 mb) and may fill up your storage...causing it to slow down?
Having the same issue after owning it for two days. I really wanted to like this tablet, but between the sluggishness, and other various shortcomings, I'm going to be returning mine.
I deleted WSJ app and it seems to have helped a lot - not as fast as new, but a lot better. One thing which still irritates me is email app which just seems to be too slow...
Sorry to say but mine so fast I can't keep it down it trys to fly away lol

Same
has anyone been able to figure this out? I'm having the same problems and I've been running watchdog but there been no out of control process is on my device. I have wiped the device and the same thing just keeps happening after a little while it'll get very slow. it happens more often than not when there something in the background downloading are using the internet, but it's definitely not my connection because I've had no problems with any other devices.
Been getting similar behavior recently. cm10 euroskank, trinity 7.
Edit: in logcat, getting stuff like
I/Choreographer(10656): Skipped 30 frames! The application may be doing too much work on its main thread.
W/InputEventReceiver(10656): Attempted to finish an input event but the input event receiver has already been disposed.
I think I may have come across a solution. For me, the slowdowns were always connected to when something was downloading in the background, or when a process was using data, so I went through and turned off syncing on any non-essential Google services and other apps, and it seems to be working much better right now.

Sound lags during music playback

Hi guys. I got myself a 32gb, wifi only version of N7. Upgraded it instantly to 4.2.2 . Nothing to complain about in the first 2 days.
After that, I noticed that, when I play music (stream through upnp on local network or play mp3 / flac files on local storage - tested several players, bsplayer, google player, poweramp...), and do some other stuff on the tablet at the same time - surf, or just 'click around', or swipe through my documents - occassionally I experience short sound dropouts, like the I/O-load would be too high or something. Please note this isn't bluetooth thing some people experienced, I use regular phones. It happens sometimes when I do some trivial stuff...noticed it all over the place, while starting an app, surfing, writing something in the Google search window, searching people on FB, opening a browser (empty) tab, even clicking on application button to see the list. It can be really anything, it doesn't happen a lot but it's there.
I googled the problem but couldn't find anyone with similar issues. Read on the other hand a lot about general performance issues of the Nexus 7 after 4.2.2 upgrade, about (visual) lag, so I figured, even though my eye didn't catch that on my device (this is my first experience with 4.x.x so it looked fast and smooth enough to me), I decided to revert to 4.1.2 and see whether there would be any difference. I can't say I could see/hear improvement, maybe a slight one, but I still get to experience occassional chops in my music, which is very annoying, this should be ridiculously easy for a 4-core processor to accomplish. It's unacceptable. I even checked that CPU wasnt overloaded when these chops occured (in fact, it was only around 25%-30% when the chops occured, perhaps the peaks were too short for program to register them - I dunno)...
I also tried everything people suggested here regarding general performance issues, disabling this and that, Currents, factory resets, cleaning cache partition...you name it. Nada.
Anybody experienced similar thing? Don't know if I have faulty unit or if this is bug in software (Samsung Galaxy S3 had a similar thing when it got out, even though the sound pops were of different nature and occured under different circumstances - took several software upgrades until it got fixed)...I'm thinking of returning it and go for iPad mini or something.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
The results of this have varied but there are some who attest that this works.
Have you disabled auto-sync in Google Currents (Blue Circle Icon)?
If not, try that; this has worked for me.
Open up "Google Currents" Hit the 3 dots on the top right -> Settings -> Scroll down and UNCHECK "Enable background sync"
Remember these results have varied, but it fixed the issue with my tablet. Also I heard there were some issues (although if someone can confirm them further for us--that'd be appreciated!) with the RAM in many Nexus 7s so stressing out the ram and filling up your SDcard to the max will cause it to have stutter issues too.
Hi and thanks for the suggestion,
Disabling the background sync in Google Currents was actually the first thing I did. I believe I tried out everything that was suggested so far on the net regarding the general performance issues. I used Forever Gone app to fill up all space and then delete it, I wiped the cache partition in bootloader mode, I even did a factory reset, and eventually I re-flashed it back to 4.1.2 (it did improve then but the music lag / pops were still not entirely gone). SD-card space-thing cannot be the issue either as I have like 23gigs free.
Now I even noticed that video playback is effected by occasional sound pops. When I play video in full screen, not doing anything else, it still happens. Rarely but it does happen.

Returned it and took money back. Will look for other options soon. This thing was too 'beta' for me.

Apps take forever to load

Since the Oreo update the performance of my Nvidia Shield has gone down the toilet. Initially the UI was very sluggish. That seems to have improved a bit although it's still nowhere near as fast and responsive as it was on Nougat. But now the slow loading time of apps is starting to drive me crazy. When I click to open an app like Amazon Prime Video it takes 5-10 seconds for the app to open and then another 5-10 seconds for the home screen to populate with content. Before the update everything was pretty much instant. Is there a way to improve Shield performance after this terrible update? I already did a factory reset and it didn't help.

Same observation for me
I contacted Nvidia support via live chat. They said they would get back to me via email but since this doesn't seem to be an uncommon problem that probably means there's no fix.
Maybe a little of topic. /rant
I wouldn't say mine has been sluggish, but I've been having plenty of problems.
Anytime I tell one of my GH devices to do something on the shield they blink and then give no response. Even in My Activity logs for Home there is nothing in response to my commands.
Starting to really irritate me, I'm about done with Google Home and it's only been a week. Maybe HomeKit won't be so buggy (oh no! Apple :silly. Trying to convince my wife to buy into smart home stuff, and Google is managing to make it seem nothing short of a stupid gimmick. Doesn't do what it should more than half the time.
"Ok, Google, skip the track that's playing."
"Okay, but please try again and specify the device."
"Okay, Google. Skip the track that is currently playing on Spotify on the Shield."
...
...
...
Nothing, not even in activity logs.
Assistant OSD won't go away until I press back or tell google to "go away."
I had to reinstall Spotify today because it wouldn't load ("error" on Spotify start screen), even after reboots.
I just got this thing and have no experience with pre-oreo Shield, but it isn't difficult to understand why so many people are upset.
Might be driving to Best Buy buy the end of the week.
Here I thought my FireTV 2 was being a pita.
I did another factory reset. I did the 2 hour version before going to bed so the Shield would be powered on overnight in case it needed to do some background optimization. It took me hours to set up everything again and the end result was no improvement at all. My Shield Pro is still laggy and slow to respond to commands and might actually be worse now than it was before the factory reset. I've read the cheaper 16GB model is not experiencing this issue so at this point I really regret spending the extra money on the pro model. It's very frustrating to have a $300 streaming box that's barely a year old get completely trashed by an official software update.

The 16Gb version also lags after Oreo update
Performance improved after the second factory reset but it seemed to take a day to settle down. It's still not as smooth and responsive as before the update but it's also no longer maddening to use. I had a bunch of Plex crashes after the second factory reset but it seems like that might have stopped. I had a half dozen crashes over the first day and a half but so far none since then.
Oreo is faster than Nougat on phones so I don't understand why the opposite is true on Android TV. People are reporting problems on other Android boxes that got the Oreo update as well so this apparently isn't just a Nvidia issue.
Performance got so bad I ended up doing a third factory reset. After the third one everything is fast and responsive. Not sure why the first two factory resets didn't fix things. This time the only app I downloaded was Emby so maybe an app I downloaded previously was causing problems.
post 7.2 USB and app issues
i have the 2nd gen 16G version of the nvidia shield. i took the 7.2 experience upgrade and i am having lots of troubles:
my external USB hard drive just keeps scanning and never reachable
not able to start up many apps that did rely on that external storage
I have rebooted several times with no effect
i have also tried unplugging everything and then restarting them in order.
I have avoided so far a factory reset or forgetting the USB storage as those are a bit nuclear, but if there is no other option I must since most of my games and Kodi relied on teh USB and they are unusable (I did uninstall Kodi and attempt to reinstall) at bootup of Kodi, it still says "waiting for external drive.
