With my S3, I used CWM, and decided to go with TWRP on my S4, and just prefer the look and feel of CWM. So I'm looking at how to switch from TWRP to CWM, and can't find anything specific for the S4. Also, are the backups created specific to the custom recovery that created it? I made a nandroid backup with TWRP before flashing CM 10.1. If I wanted, could I flash that backup created with TWRP with CWM if I did switch? Thanks
Just odin CWM over top twrp. And I think the backups are compatible between the 2 recoveries.
Just flash CWM zip from TWRP.
If you are concerned about the compatibility of backups between CWM and TWRP you might want to try PhilZ touch CWM in the Original Development section.
Backups are not usually cross compatible AFAIK but you can use nandroid manager to convert them, although I've never tried it.

Thanks for the responses. But if the nandroid backups aren't cross compatible, I'll just stick with TWRP. There's nothing wrong with it, I just prefer the look and feel of CWM since it's what I'm use to.

That's the closest we have, it's a modified version of clockworkmod, but it's not supported in rom manager.

WHAT I HAVE DONE:
Backuped my rom with 3.0.0.5 to mess up with my rom.
Replaced framework-res.apk to get some new icons.
New framework-res.apk crashed my phone.
Tried to restore backup with 3.0.0.5.
Find myself stucked at "HTC".
Tried to flash MIUI rom from official MIUI website, MD5 checked.
Still stucked.
Went back to recovery 2.5.1.3.
Tried to restore backup created by 3.0.0.5.
Everything is OK now.
ORIGINAL PROBLEM:
Under 3.0.0.5 Backup restore failed+Flash MIUI ROM failed+HBOOT OK+Tested 13 times!!!!
symptom: Stuck at "HTC"
Went back to 2.5.1.3 and Flash MIUI ROM OK.
Now trying to restore backup created by 3.0.0.5...
Hope no more bricked DHD....

Anybody would like to give it a try may follow this:
Make sure you are using version 3.0.0.5.
Backup your current rom (Make sure you have enough rom on your TF card, there won't be an warning if you failed because of lack of disk space!!! 2GB free recommend). (The backup function seemed OK...)
Mess your system up. (Delete some important files such like framework-res.apk...)
restore backup...
Here I get stucked at "HTC" (AKA first boot screen, defined by manufactor.)
RESTORING:
Boot into HBOOT, then fastboot, flash CWM Recovery 2.5.1.3. (Attached)
restore....
It's alive now...

It depends if the Rom is made for CWM 3.0.0.5. If not its not working...
And of course u can´t restore a backup with 3.0.0.5 which was done with CWM 2.5.1.3

I don't think recovery have anything to do with my rom. According to my 3 years android messing up history.
On the other hand, if that's true, there should be an warning when I flash my recovery through CWM Rom Manager.
CWM 3.x is fine. Been flashing roms with it since january (or december). A lot of people actually.
Edit: recovery has to do with the roms. Cwm 3 requires the updater script(edify). Also, cwm 3.0.0.5 from rom manager works fine for backup/restore. If you flashed it on your own before it was made available through rom manager, then its probably the test version which had probs restoring.

The recovery works fine. Some people are just not aware that CWM 2 backups are not compatible with CWM 3 backups, and vice versa. There is also another compatibility problem, zips intended for CWM 2 do not work with CWM 3.
So there is no real issue with CWM, just some compatibility problems, and those can not / will not be fixed. It is the way software evolves..

Restored my backup created by 3.0.0.5 using 2.5.1.3, strange result according to your opinion...
It also depends on the ROM and it's filesystem, but the rule of thumb is, don't even try it.

Post updated, a little bit long to read it through... but please...
My "ROM" is referring to the current system+user data+whatever else inside my nand, not the one in my update.zip. If you would like to know.
Once I learned recovery backup rom exactly the way it is, just like what Norton Ghost do to your hard disk, so if backup and restore not working, the files must be broken. Otherwise it's the recovery's fault.
If we install cwm, IF twrp recovery comes to the nexus 7, will we be able to switch from cwm to twrp? If we made cmw permanent, could we switch to twrp recovery? Also, this is my first post on this form so I'd like to say hi to everyone.

When twrp makes its way onto the nexus 7, you will be able to switch to it. Just remember, nandroid backups are not compatible with twrp so don't forget to make new backups. (I had the unfortunate experience of having to switch between the two several times in order to transfer over all of my backups)

I've had TWRP 2.6.0.0 lock up on me a few times in the past two days. Now that I'm trying on a few mods, It takes maybe 5 tries to get recovery to start. Using GooManager never works. That route just hangs on the splash page.
Should I consider a different version of TWRP, or just go with CWM? Whichever I choose, is there a file I can simply flash in recovery (assuming I can get into recovery just...one...more...time...please, oh, please)?
I am on US i337UCUAMDL, stock rooted ROM, AT&T if that matters.
There's a twrp 2.5.0.2 and a 2.6.3.0 flashable zip under my Sig in the general forum.

I need that link...I flashed Jeboo's CWM and did a backup. On the next boot, I got stuck in a boot loop. I know I have a TWRP backup of a good state, but can't restore that without a TWRP recovery. Can you give me the link so I can get this going again?

I flashed 2.5.0.2 and tried to restore a backup that was made when I was on 2.6.0.0. I got a "Restore Failed" just after the data. I am wondering if it is because I went backwards in TWRP versions. I may have to flash a newer TWRP, I guess.

I had the same problem, you could keep trying to get this to work, or quit wasting time, and just odin back to stock, root, then install a recovery other than the newer twrp releases, they have issues, I was thru with all this in 1 hour, or keep getting bad flash messages....that is the easiest and quickest method.
And after you get that fixed, come take a look at Vision X, nice rom.
I have tinkered with your ROM. I did install it and make a few mods. Had issues with what kernel to pick, resolved apn issues. Was impressed enough to make a backup of it for later. I'm saying goodbye to my stock ROM, backing up data and configs for whatever ROM I go with. Yours is on the top of the list, but the kernel question lingers.
As for kernels, I want what will work on AT&T without having to jump through hoops.

I want to make a backup of the original kernel that came with my G2 D802 32GB just in case I need it in the future if I mess up something.
I read that flashify can make a backup of the kernel, but also read this program can brick the G2.
Any other ways to backup the kernel of my original stock LG rom?
And how to restore it in the future if I need to do so?

If you're rooted and have flashed twrp recovery all you have to do is back up the boot partition then you have a back up all you need to do is if you want it back just boot into recovery and restore the boot partition it's not really having a flashable kernel zip but it's one way

First question the answer is no you won't lose your recovery and to answer the second question I know with twrp it does back up the kernel I do it with every custom ROM I flash I'll back up its kernel before I install a custom one just so i have it and decide to go back to it now with cwm I'm not sure I only used cwm for a short period of time and wasn't happy with it I prefer twrp
