I want to make a backup of the original kernel that came with my G2 D802 32GB just in case I need it in the future if I mess up something.
I read that flashify can make a backup of the kernel, but also read this program can brick the G2.
Any other ways to backup the kernel of my original stock LG rom?
And how to restore it in the future if I need to do so?

If you're rooted and have flashed twrp recovery all you have to do is back up the boot partition then you have a back up all you need to do is if you want it back just boot into recovery and restore the boot partition it's not really having a flashable kernel zip but it's one way

Two questions though.
Using that method, if I restore the boot then I would lose my custom recovery right?
Also, I've read that doing backups through TWRP or CWM doesn't backup the kernel installed at that moment. Is this true? Because if it's true then doing that backup wouldn't make a backup of the kernel.

First question the answer is no you won't lose your recovery and to answer the second question I know with twrp it does back up the kernel I do it with every custom ROM I flash I'll back up its kernel before I install a custom one just so i have it and decide to go back to it now with cwm I'm not sure I only used cwm for a short period of time and wasn't happy with it I prefer twrp

I'm a little new to all this so please bear with me..
Just rooted my MT4g and want to make a nandroid backup before i do anything. However i see that i need to use CWM to flash a custom recovery image in order to make the backup.
Is there anyway to reverse that recovery image back to stock? Incase i need to revert the phone completely back to stock...

If you completed the root process then you already have CwM recovery. Just use Rom Manager to make a backup. If you have to revert back to stock the process will reinstall the stock recovery img for you.

Hmm okay. I did successfully root the device and I was following this write up to backup the phone using nandroid which says i need to flash a custom recovery ROM.
I just tried to backup current ROM and it gives me a message saying i must flash CwM recovery first and gives me an option to install it. But i'm guessing it's possible to restore that from the link in my second post?
You can use clockwork to restore your factory rom, but if you want to revert your recovery back to stock you will need to fastboot flash the stock recovery back on. This is assuming you have first flashed the stock rom which will leave you without clockwork rom manager installed. There's a few unroot guides that will help you if you need to send your phone back to tmo. I would suggest becoming familiar with ADB and Fastboot. That knowledge will give you more options in a pinch.

Yes i am doing a lot of reading right now, but wanted to make sure all the files i needed were out there for the MT4G already. Looks like the factory recovery is out there and it can be flashed back so i'm not to worried.

Yes all the files are out there that you would need to pretty much do whatever needed. Check out the links in my sig for some good things.
I'm just starting to read up on how to root and flash my phone and also how to go back to stock if necessary. If you haven't rooted your phone yet, is there any method to fully backup the phone so that returning to stock is easier?

Use the backup function in the recovery or use an app like MyBackUpPro full version.
Questions should go in the questions section.
Backup option in recovery for sure. This backs up your whole phone state. Apps, settings, icons...everything. For an extra safety measure you can use something like Titanium Backup to backup apps and system settings. This is good for switching roms.
you can use the backup from ROM Manager and if you really need to you can always follow the unroot procedure and that gets you back to the out of the box feel

I was wondering if there's any full backup that will also backup the recovery image prior to doing this, for an easy return to fully stock phone. I'm guessing the answer is no. Correct?

Once you have rooted the phone, and turned s=off you can flash Clockwork Recovery image to do back ups.
IF you are needed to go to a 100% stock fashion for what ever reason. you can do that. All you need to do is download the PD15IMG which can be found in the development section. Store it to the SDcard and boot the phone into boot-loader. That will replace EVERYTHING and put it back to a 100% factory spec. and no they cannot tell it's been rooted once the PD15IMG has been flashed.

You need recovery for flashing mods and themes, zip file kernels, make a nandroid backup, backup and restore and EFS folder (Philz Touch Recovery). Reasons enough as you see.

Im having 2 issues with phillys recovery n not sure wut im doin wrong. I did a backup and when I restored it gapps forceclosed and phone wouldnt let me do anything. Secondly ive tried doing he create custom rom. It flashs fine but wont pass bootloader s4 screen. Need help. Would love to be able to make a flashable rom with my ultra slim rom n possibly have my xposed tweets built in.

Got backup to work. But still unable to get custom rom aka update.zip to get past bootloader. Anyone kno how to fix this.

If you're talking about the update.zip made from Titanium, it is NOT a custom ROM.
It is simply a backup of your applications (and some settings) you can use to flash after flashing a ROM to 're-load' all your stuff.
If you get your current ROM configured the way you like it you can then create a nandroid to restore it later if that is what you want. And without any info on what version of Android you're on, what ROM you're on, or what version of the recovery you're on there is no way to tell you where to go from here.

No. From philz touch recovery. In the custom backups you can selete create a custom rom from backup and I can't get tht to flash right after makin. Clean install n everything.

Never tried that (make ROM from recovery in philz) myself.
I just make and restore loads of backups using Philz and TWRP. I consider a full backup (complete image(s) of all phone partitions) to be my ROM(s).
I would bet that with what you're doing that if, after you flash your custom made zip (and before rebooting) you stayed in recovery and then flashed (install zip) of the same recovery, rebooted back to recovery and flashed the kernel it may work.
Rebooting the recovery (or a battery pull) often clears out hangs.
Did you tried enabling se linux context from backup settings?

I had similair issues with philz. idid a very improtnact nandroid backup and when iwent ot restore it didnt work. I definately like TWRp the best. Best UI and never any issues for me.

So, I've been searching around the forum for "restore", "restore nandroid backup", etc. and I've always been directed to the method that's described here. Is that the only way to go back to stock? Can I not just restore my backup from my current Paranoid Android ROM?
If not, can I use my nandroid backup once I go back to stock using the aforementioned method?
KitKat does not allow custom recoveries.
Backup nand backup to PC, flash back to stock 4.2.2, install custom recovery, and then restore PA backup.

I think I wasn't clear, though. I was on Paranoid Android at the time of writing the question. That's what I refered to as KitKat. And I wanted to go back to stock by restoring my nandroid backup of it. But, I've never seen anyone do it like that on the forums. Everyone used the LG flashtool. So, that's why I asked.
Ended up going to CloudyFlex, and I'm really happy about it!

Technically, neither does JB. The Loki exploit is why we have any custom kernels/recoveries. I'm going to be submitting a request tomorrow to have Loki updated with the new aboot info.
