Looking for a new tablet, need advice - Galaxy Tab 2 General

Hello. I'm looking to replace my nexus 7 as i cracked the screen a while back. Have been waiting on the Iconia A1 to come out, but I cant find any info as to when it will be coming in America. I have a coupon for $30 of the Gtab 2 7" at Sams which would put this at around $140. I know its getting a bit old, but what do you as users think of it still. I use my tablet as my GPS for trips, love the 7" screen...will also be doing to light internetting with it..possibly watching movies....and playing a few games here an there.

I bought one for me yesterday and I'm pretty pleased with it..
I too got it for a similar purpose and this one just fits the bill..If you keep aside the Processor which ain't a Quad core as in Iconia and the 5mp cam instead of 3 ,its just a dcent buy if not great...(Well,i kinda am lovin it so far)
good luck

No.
Wait for ASUS Memopad 7 HD
Its like Nexus 7 but with an updated processor, rear facing camera and starting at $129 for 8gb and $149 for 16gb.

The next gen nexus 7 or galaxy tab 3
sent from my UNLOCKED gt-s5360 using the XDA app

Galaxy tab 3? It will have an intel procesor, not all apps will run and no CM for an intel powered device. So next nexus 7 or the memopad 7 HD

Will Tab 3 7" version also have Intel Inside? Very interesting! To continue my Android x86 interest Intel has Houdini library to emulate arm instruction. I can run Angry Bird, Adobe Reader, GPS app, etc on my Netbook powered by Android x86 with hacked Houdini, with my own kernel to enable all my Lenovo Ideapad S100 CPU core, add missing WiFi kernel module, etc

Yeah intel CPU Powerfull but no dev bring AOSP on those devices.

The 10inch tab 3 has an Intel cpu
The 8inch has the same cpu found in galaxy s2
The 7inch has a marvell cpu dual core cortex a9

+1 to this! I'm very eager to get my hands on the Asus Memo Pad 7HD.. just curious when it will be released exactly. Have seen nothing more detailed then an approximate arrival time of july.

Asus memo pad hd 7 has a quad core a7 cpu
Sero pro and nexus 7 have quad core a9 cpu plus a single core mode to save the battery

Already owned one and returned it a month ago.. Worst battery life ever. Could not last long enough to finish a 720p Avatar Movie at full charge.
Unless you are referring to the WiFi only version that will soon be out and fail just as badly.
There's this cool section on XDA. Called the Streak 7 forum. Check it out sometime.

I can handle it. But my Dell-5 is still just fine still.
My 2 Cents
I like my Streak5, 7" would be too much for a primary device (IMHO) at times the 5 is just a tad big (using otterbox defender)
i am happy my streak mini...no need to 7 for now...
lol nice thread! Very useful.

How is the gaming performance of the Fire?

Hey Guys,
I'm thinking about picking up a Kindle Fire mainly for couch-gaming. I love the whole rooting/hacking scene and there seems to be a lot of dev support which is essential for any android device to suceed imo, but I digress.
How does the GPU handle the newest, current 3D games? If im looking for a tablet that will hold up to newer games, would this be a good or bad choice?
For example, I'm looking to start playing Order and Chaos again. I got it working pretty flawlessly on my HTC Flyer that I used to have. Does anyone run this on their fire?
Thanks for the info
The OMAP TI 4430 and the PowerVR GX540 do really a great combo. The KF handles new games without any issue .
However, keep in mind it only supports up to two touch points at the same time.
Do you want an E reader that can play games or a full fledged tablet for entertainment? Because the KF is not a full blown tablet by any means.
Kindle Fire handles hard core 3D gaming very well. Games like Shadowgun run like silk
Sent from a blaze of amazon using Tapatalk
All good and well what the Fire can handle but for $50 more, $250 list, you can get a full blown Android tablet in the Galaxy Tab 2 from Samsung. That 50 bucks gets you: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, GPS, a micro SDHC slot so you can add 32GB more storage, camera (admittedly not so great of one), compass and other sundry sensors. Uses the Ti OMAP dual core processor which does rather decent graphics.
Edit: I knew I forgot something as I was writing this and just remembered. A full Android device will also have Bluetooth so you can use wireless gaming controllers.
Just something to consider.

The issue is that most people don't pay 199 for their Kindle Fire's if they are on XDA. You can get a refurb device straight from Amazon for 139 and probably cheaper if you look on Craigslist, etc (around 100).
Kind of makes that "50 dollars more" argument turn into 120+.
Mind you, I'm not arguing the fact that for 250 you do get a full fledged tablet device in the 7" form factor. The GTab 2 is a fine device.

Galaxy Note 10.1 vs. Galaxy Tab 2 P5100

Hi guys,
Please help me to make the right choice
I need a 3G tablet, capacity doesn't matter and to be honest I don't really need stylus.
I stuck with those 2 tablets as I own Galaxy Note phone.
Are there more significent differences?
- a 3G Note 10.1 (£500) will be about £150 more than Tab 2 (£350)
- Note has better camera 5mp vs 3mp
Performance:
- can I split the screen on Tab 2 with 2 apps at the same time like on Note commercial videos?
- can I use these tablets like phones when I put my simcard from my old Note?
Thanks for any advice!
Sure note 10 has better specifications in processor and stylus etc and will give you smoother experience overall and is the samsung flagship model of tablets till now
1-No split screen in tab2 models as i know i have 10 inch p-5100 tab2 no split screen with multiple apps you got the button that let you multitask and choose other apps running in background only
2-certain models of tab2 only can give you phone functions calling messaging contacts 3G those models are p-3100 for 7 inch and p-5100 for 10 inch as the one i have other models are only wifi no phone functions or sim card slot at all as p-3110 and p-3113 for 7 inch and p-5110 and p-5113 for 10 inch
Mohamed Selim
three more questions please
-is chrome working fine on stock tab2 p5100
- can I use signal from my Note 5.3 to tab2
- can I use signal from tab2 to work on another tablet?
cheers

Is there any reason for me to buy Note 10.1 instead of Tab2 3G if I don't use stylus and dont play games?
Flagship models usually have better support officially and unofficially!!!
Also the better processor 1.6 dual core have a good potential and will give you overall smoother experience not just in games everything

Of course the quad core is better but Samsung did not release quad core tablet yet so 1.6 dual core is the flagship model until now and better than 1 dual core of tab 2 if you want quad code so go for Asus or nexus 7 but a note that most apps did not take advantage of quad core yet not programmed to use all cores in the future that will change with apps updates but for now 1.6 dual core may be better in performance than 1.4 quad in most apps

RAM is only for multi taking really. (random access memory) it would help with opening lots of apps in the background like a desktop, with the 1gb of ram, its not going to matter as much as the GPU has 72 cores, this is how i think of it anyways,

Worth the upgrade - very tempted

OK, so currently I have the Hyundai t7 which is a Chinese tablet which I got for £66. It has a Samsung exynos 4412 1.6ghz processor and 1 GB ram, 1280*800 7inch IPS screen and dual cameras. Although the specs seem quite good it only runs ICS but has a very unstable jellybean ROM. I know that the advent has 4.4.2 the latest one. My first question, is this tablet supported through a lot of new firmwares. For example will it get android 5.0 etc?. When using in the shop the speed is amazing as well as the unique stylus. Now for the battery. My Hyundai can get a mere 1hr screen on time which is dreadful. I am definitely looking for upgrade on that. How long is the screen on time on the tegra not. Finally is it worth upgrading? It cost at my PC world £130

I get several hours (~5) on mixed usage on my EVGA Note 7 on maximum performance option, max screen brightness and with bluetooth and wifi turned on. This includes a mix of gaming for an hour or two, lots of web browsing, flash videos and movies or shows downloaded to the tablet. Nvidia has said that they'll roll out updates on their devices as soon as possible and that seems to be the case with the Note 7 and Shield as they've both got the 4.4.2 update. I would be wary, though, as some people have reported problems with not being able to read or write to their SD cards. Personally, I'd suggest staying at the 4.2.2 or 4.3 rom until these issues get fixed. I got my brother the Nexus 7 2012 when it first came out and compared his to my Note 7. Honestly, in average use, I don't see too much difference and the games I play aren't graphics intensive but it played games like The Walking Dead: Season One, Dead Trigger, Asphalt 8 and Real Racing just fine.

I suppose it depends on what you use it for, what you require from the tablet and what your budget is. If you would really prefer a 10" tablet over a 7" one, I would really hold out to get what you really want. I know Qualcomm just revealed their 808 and 810 CPUs with Adreno 418 and 430 GPUs respectively and Nvidia's new Tegra K1 should be out in devices in the next several months. Be prepared to spend up to twice the price of what a 7" tablet costs, though.
Yes thanks. I have picked up he lg g pad 8.3 which was a steal at £119 so no need to worry about this!!!!
