I cannot decide between Galaxy Note 3 and galaxy S4 - Galaxy Note II General

Hello everyone, first of all, I am galaxy S4 user, I have both octa core and snapdragon. I am pretty sad about the poor battery life of Exynos S4(I play a lot of game) and the lack of custom developpement in the i9500 section.
I am pretty happy with the i9505 even if it "lacks" performance(Although it is already a beast with snapdragon 600) compared to the octa core and the future "Snapdragon 800" which will be rumoured to be integrated in the Galaxy Note 3.
I don't care if this device has 1 inch larger screen or something else. All I need in a phone is the absolute performance and the perfect fluidity when using. And the Note 3 seems to offer this performance with the Snapdragon 800. Playing games on the big screen fast device will be really cool, so is the SPen.
The only problem is that I am not someone patient. I have to wait 4 or 5 month until the Note 3 being released. So does this device really provide enough performance that I should wait for it?
(if it uses the octa core, I am sure to not buy it). Thank you for your advice.

Once it releases someone might be able to answer your question. Right now no one knows what the spec will be so no one can answer the question.

If you are impatient then you have not seen me yet. I used all the galaxy s and note series and I got them as soon as it reached my country. If I look back I can say that I have spent so much money on this. Ever since I got note 2, I am very much pleased with its performance, almost 0% issues. When S4 released, I was going for it, then saw that it has so many bugs right now, I stopped. Stopping wasn't an easy decision but I know it will be worth. If you just look at the rumored specs, it all suggests that its going to be a very powerful phone. The latest rumors suggest that it will not have an octa-core so I suggest you to hold your horse and expect an A+ device for note 3.

Really, how do you expect ANYONE to be able to answer that, when the device isn't released, or even had the final spec officially confirmed? You have an S4; keep it until the Note 3 comes out, then decide what you want to do.

The S4 is better because right now the S4 exists and the Note 3 is just rumors

If Note 3 has Snapdragon S800, definitely buy it

Get a Note 2. It is an S4 with a 5.6 inch screen.

The Note 3 is to the S4 as the Note 2 is to the S3, it's bound to have better features/ specs, plus the pen

not really.
1. Note 2 hardware is just worse than S4. I would never buy note 2 which is much bigger, slightly slower than the galaxy S4
2. 720p resolution on a 5,6 inch screen against 1080p on a 5 inch? I prefer the second one.

Having seen both side by side, the difference is negligible for all practical purposes. I wouldn't swap one for the other just on that factor of screen resolution alone.

Nor the so called speed difference. On paper the s4 is faster yet in real life it's impossible to notice any difference in speed whatsoever. Both phones are lightning fast. What you can notice is that the Note 2 has an s-pen and a bigger screen.

Successor for Galaxy note ?

Hearing some buzz on the successor of note. Nothing official yet,but may be in MWC or Samsung conference in March (?) , But what features the existing and to be owners of note expecting ?
Edit :
I know Galaxy note 10.1 and I didn't mean it.
Adding the main expectations from the user's responses
Quad core processor
1.5GB RAM
No Hardware key
ICS
Bigger screen (?)
Metallic body
Hot swap micro SD
micro SIM compatible
NFC
Reverse tweethering
Upgraded AMOLED
Better DAC - Wolfson WM1811
Better positioning of power & volume key
Dedicated Instant Camera button
more coming...
I doubt there'll be a "successor" to the Note for a while yet, seeing as it's only just been released in the US. A 10 inch version is a certainty, though.
http://mashable.com/2012/02/26/sams...eed:+mashable/mobile+(Mashable+»+Mobile+Feed)
Worth noting - it's running ICS! ^
Been thinking similar, looking at new HTC phones and tablets fro Samsung. They are all very impressive but they don't match what I have with my Note, either too small or too big!!
Quicker the note gets ICS the better.

Given the distinctly "meh" specs of the new galaxy tab 2 10.1, I'm assuming/hoping that this new Note 10.1 will have at least the same specs as the original note (i.e 1.4ghz exynos), or hopefully better. Quad core anyone? Or perhaps the processor from the upcoming Galaxy S3? Who knows. I just hope it is more than just a tab 2 with a stylus.
No it does not have the same specs as the note. 1ghz processor, 1Gb RAM and 7000 battery

As the chap above me said, that isn't the Note 10.1. Hopefully the Note will be a "premium" model of the Tab. I predict a 1.5ghz, and a slightly higher res screen. Which is a shame, as it'll probably be completely blown away by the iPad 3's Retina display in less than a week's time.
That tablet looks dumb. Same hardware but bigger battery n kinda better screen res? What a waist .

My predictions for the Note 10.1
1080p Screen (SAMOLED HD, not 'plus')
7000mah battery like on the new tab.
Next gen exynos processor (my guess would be the 2ghz dual core one.)
Hopefully it will have a SPen and Android 4.

Specs:
1.4 GHz Exynos DC
10.1 Inch Screen (1280x800 Resolution)
Android 4.0
3 MP Cam
16GB/32GB/64 GB
S-Pen
Same specs as the Note, except for the camera. This has 3Mpixel camera as a main one. According to PCworld, the built-in S Note program spawns a window to the right of the Web browser, so as to take notes while still surfing. 7000mAh battery, Android 4.0 and will come in 16, 32, and 64GB models. Keep in mind this has the same resolution as the Note.
However, i still wouldn't buy it. The reason is portability.

Don't you think that's an overkill for a tiny screen? I think 1280x800 or 1600x900 is plenty...
Many 30 and 40'' tv's still have only 1366x768.
Always the same discussion. The difference here is that you so not sit 10 inches from that 40" TV. You usually sit 10 feet away. So the screen is bigger but also you are farther away.
Also we are forgetting the big difference between the 5.3" and 10.1" Note, the smaller one is a phone, has 3G radio.
The good thing about this announcement is that it has ICS on it, and, as the internal hardware is the same as the 5.3" Note, it means it should not take much time to get a ICS ROM for our note. They just have to add drivers for the phone and FM radio parts.

Agree with above
I was hoping it would be a new a15 processor, but sadly it seems that is not the case :-(
As great as the specs of the note are at present, they are going to be quickly over taken once the Snapdragon S4s and Tegra 3s start hitting the market.
Also the resolution of the screen, whilst acceptable, is going to look outdated in less than a month.
I know these are the perils of buying any high end android device, but I was hoping Samsung would be smart enough to be 1 step ahead. Seems not.
With Apple releasing a retina display for iPad 3 1280x800 is a bit underwhelming for a new tablet. It's not a penile screen though, so that differs from the note.

Here's what Slashgear thinks about it:
http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-eyes-on-27215509/
One great thing about it is the bundled Adobe photoshop touch and Adobe ideas software that you get for free. They look really nice, and they cost £6.99 or $9.99 each to buy on their own, so it's great to have them included.
Would it be really optimistic to hope that once the original note gets ICS, those apps will be added to the Samsung app store for note owners to download for free?... Pretty please Samsung?
since the the galaxy note has basically the same hardware.. i wonder if we can just interchange roms

These tablets feel like a refresh, probably the real game changer is the rumored Tab/Note 11.6 which is probably on a separate event.
No AMOLED display? sigh
Even though AMOLED colors, dynamic range, and 'white balance' (too warm) stinks, but, i'm accustomed to its super contrasty fakeness
Well yeah, same name but bigger, dont think they will upgrade it so much
Can it make phone calls? If not, then I perfer the 7.7
great ! I need the phone with the same size !
Personally I'm quite excited by this.
GSM Arena have reported that its the same screen as the standard Galaxy Tab but with a different Digitizer to support the S-Pen, According to them its quite a bit quicker than the S-Pen running on the 5.3" so hopefully the ICS upgrade will be including the new drivers to upgrade the performance of the pen.
Other than that, its a fantastic idea. Sit in the office all day designing using your regular Photoshop Set-Up with a Wacom tablet, Then go home and chill on your sofa and continue your design using your 10.1" Wacom Powered Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and then continue your work on the bus on your Wacom Powered 5.3" Samsung Galaxy Note 5.3.
This makes the device a designers paradise, I'm not a designer and I never will be... But I think this is a good shot by Samsung to try and take a device away from the regular Power-Users.

To S3 or not to S3, this is the question

well...
i've had several Androids so far (N1 > I897 > I9100 > N7000) and now the s3 is out.
i had real fun with the S2, switched to Gnote just because i had a opertunity to do so with no extra cost (while raising the value of my phone)
and now i have a dilemma, the Note is great... the development just started to boom (hell just saw an AOKP rom) but, the Gnote is large, for some its a plus for some not as much... i lived happily with the 4.3 of the S2 so 4.8 with S3 wont kill me... it's as tall as the Gnote but not as wide
so... the question remains, to switch or not to switch?
Its fast as hell plus thumb gets all the way across the screen. So if note is a bit big for you and money is no problem - just do it I know I will if my company agress in 6 months...

The only good thing at Galaxy S3 is 10ms response time. Everything else is unnecessary things or obsolete technology. Galaxy Note is 10 times better.
I did, also due to size, and have (apart from the wasted money) no regrets.
It's a great phone.

Honestly, apart from quad-core CPU the S3 is a step down. Smaller screen, uses the same display, the same gpu, lower battery etc.
The only advantage is quad core cpu which you won't need for a while, better camera and bunch of software upgrades that are already being ported.
Not worth it mate.

I dont think so. Have you seen photos from Galaxy S3? They are horrible! My photos from Note is much better.
about low battery... as a former S2 user with 1900MAH anker battery
it might be smaller then the 2500mah of the Gnote... but it lasted a hell lot more then the 2500
the S3 uses 2100... not that small and should use less power with smaller screen = better battery life
Lol, i wondered how long it takes until the Notes phablet phanboys chime in.. ;-) you guys clearly did not make a face to face conparison. I have both the note (which i really love for its big screen etc.) and the GS3, which is great.
The camera on the Note is not better but regarding picture quality comparable and regarding functions / features inferior.
The battey on the Note may be bigger in terms of physical size, but S3 gives significantly better run and screen on times.
Face it, the only advantage of the Note is sheer physical size of the screen (but exactly this may be a disadvantage for others).
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk 2
Choice factors depend on usage
There are several reasons that might make the decision easier to make.
1 : What is your principal usage : Web, Apps, Telephone, Notes..
If it's the Web, or the notes remain with the GN.
2 : Do you use the stylus.
The S3 doesn't have one.
3 : Is the physical size of the GN a problem. For example do you use it one-handedly.
The S3 is a better choice for one handed use.
4 : How much do you value Screen Estate.
For me 5.3" and 4.6" are definately not the same thing. I'm getting old and my eyes appreciate the 5.3...
5 : There is a lot of modding available for the GN.
The S3 mods will arrive but it depends on your patience...............
Personally I wouldn't swap the GN for a S3 unless you require that quad core ie for gaming... With the exception of speed I don't really see the advantage of the S3, to easy to confuse it with a S2, it also lacks a real show stopping advantage.
Just my thoughts.
Cheers
Note is the clear winner. LOL at S3 fanboys saying battery life is better when it has only been out a couple of days and had no stress testing.

I'm not upgrading my note unless someone swaps with me. I don't need the 2 extra cores for my day do day life, I already have a powerful PC that i can game on, and same goes for photoshop, what else would I need 4 cores for?
i mean sudoku won't be any faster, instagram will be the same, facebook and twitter wont update any quicker.
not hating the s3 but as a logical point of view and holding a GNote, there is no need to jump to an S3 for the moment, S Voice is a nice feature but pretty much useless unless you are a loner or a truck driver. the other features they have showed in the videos will be ported to our beloved notes and probably other devices. The camera lag?, well you have to live with it.

My preference goes to the S3 as well. Note is just to big for me, S3 is already pushing the limit.
I love the Note, it's the perfect size for me, I love phones with huge screens I just wish it was more rounded for a more comfortable feel when holding it.

The only thing i don't like is that it's too big and the ppi drops dramatically...
But i do love the quad+2gb ram...
Anyway..i still prefer the s3...
I think the S3's the limit of what a useable phone can be because the Note's more of a 2 handed job and if like me you always blindly walking around looking down at phone crashing into everything the Note wouldn't last a day in my hands.
I'm gonna sell my "new" iPad and get the note 2, made up my mind!

I really like the note 2. I have the first note and I love it. But the one thing the note has over the s3 is the extra ram. I find it annoying when android automatically closes down apps when I'm trying to multitask.
I don't know which to get now. I'm so confused! My partner is getting the s3 tomorrow from Amazon. I'm going to steal it and play with it hehe.

If you love the Note there is no question you should get the Note 2 rather than the S3. None whatsoever.
I have two S3s, one white international one and one red AT&T one, and as one of the staunchest protagonists for the original Note I will definitely be getting the Note 2 (I wrote the best review on the internet for the original Note - here: http://www.androidnz.net/2011/12/samsung-galaxy-note-complete-review.html - a 16k word love story).
The 2GB of RAM in the US S3 makes a really big difference in terms of never, ever having launcher re-draws or RAM shortage problems. The Note 2 is basically an S3 with it's largest deficiency fixed and a mahoosive screen and battery. If you like mahoosive screens and can handle the size you shouldn't even look sideways at anything else.
If im correct..
The Note 2 has 2GB of ram, Quad-Core Exynos processor, and it has HSPA+ & LTE radio bands built in..
If so.. i wouldn't mind buying the international version if it works on AT&T LTE Network.. hell 5.5inch is big but.. thats why we have bluetooths
I'd get an S3 because basically, it's a bigger screen with the same resolution, and a waaay lower ppi.. I won't really favor 0.8~ on 70~ ppi difference.
The only benefit i can see is the 2GB of RAM.. well we currently don't need it, but meh we will in two / three years, and i change phones every two years so not a problem to me.
Note to people moaning about redraws: they're software related, and they're fixed, you can open 25~ apps actively now on the international version, i don't see myself using more .. unless you love numbers on paper.
Both phones have the SAME CPU/GPU, slightly overclocked (which i can do here, tada!)
In the other hand the camera pixel count is the same, and that's good, people think that getting more megapixels means pictures are better, wrong.
You'll get more noise and blurriness and all kinds of **** now, unless they put in larger sensors.
And for gods sake, it's jellybean not beam.
So to sum it up, not going to get a note 2 for now, maybe when the note 3 / galaxy s4 comes out next year.
the new gallery app looks good in note 2, hope samsung delivers the same gallery for us along with jb! but im afraid we havent seen any glimpse of the new gallery in any leaks yet
It is much more balance fill with a 2gb in a quad core device.but,I think when s4 pro in the market. It certainly beat exynos in pieces
S3 and note 2 is losing leader board too way faster then it's brother!
But, I love note 2 more!

Note 3 vs Galaxy s5

If rumours are correct, and the screen size is the very slightest bit smaller, would you sell your note 3 for a Galaxy s5.
The reason I ask this is because on my other thread for kit Kat btu being delayed and us being shafted, would the s5 get the latest next update?
And if the screen is brighter, and better looking, and 4k video recording etc etc, would you sacrifice a slightly smaller screen for the s5 if it turns out better? Or do we stick with the note 3 for great battery life?

No SPen. Less battery life. Smaller screen. Not for me. Maybe a good phone for my girlfriend, but definitely not me, because my hands are big.

No.

It's going to be interesting though, only according to rumours, different design, and better specs,

I don't know, but if this is S5, I'm buying! Lol.

It'll take a lot for me to downgrade my screen size, I don't use SPEN so not fussed about that... So depends what it looks like really.
Sorry guys, I'm noob, I can't comprehend what BTU is... What is it guys ?
P.S: If S5 comes with QHD resolution, 400+ dpi, at least 5.3 inch display, 3gb of ram, a GREAT OIS on camera, better sound quality and 60fps 4k record. It will be nice, if i have the money i totally change it.
BTU means it's not locked to any phone network,

No, I'd be much more likely to wait for the Note 4, and if rumors are true, the recent Google talks toward a less modified UI would be a great thing. By then, we are likely to have even better camera optics. I'll wait and be happy with what I've got.
Can't see going to a smaller screen.
I will not be downgrading to a s5 - lol
There is a reason why Note phones come out with iphones in the fall, and the note4 will b better than s5.
Also, I just got my N3, just rooted it, and haven't even scratched the surface yet as far as what it can do, only a fool would give it up this early.
(the s5 is for the s3 owners what want to use their eligible upgrade).
well Not really
surely it will have better specs but it will be small for me
also the new update or new TouchWiz will be ported by our great devs anyway so let's wait for note 4

This post took me too long to write to have it die 8 seconds later at #10 on the 1st page
note 3 win
The point I'm trying to make is, if and only if rumours are true, would you sacrifice all better specs for 2 inches screen size,?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well according to rumors the s5 will be the same specs only higher display resolution and maybe better camera... other then that it's all the same snapdragon 800 and 3gb of ram... for me it's kinda downgrade cuz i love the display on the note 3 and frankly I don't see any need for higher resolution on a smaller display... and the camera is pretty good for my needs... 4k recording is stunning on the note 3, and also I love the spen.

Besides, the S4 hasn't had any love from Samsung... The note 3 has had KK released to most of Europe but only Russia has had it for the S4.
Note all the way
IMO i would wait for some time after s5 is released for the Note 4. Might be the same specs, just better, also with Spen.
No way, S5 not for me.
- smaller screen
- less battery life
- no s pen
- will it have 3gb ram? with all the samsung bloat, we need as much ram as we can get
It doesn't matter to me if the S5 will have a better design, most of us put some kind of protection over our expensive devices so you never see the design anyway.
I'll wait for the Note 4 in September which will have all the features of the S5 but with.
5.9" QHD screen
64bit Snapdragon 810
4GB of ram
Plus a updated version of the new Touchwiz, but with less bloat hopefully
Android 4.5 or 5.0 64bit version
Let put it this way the Note 4 will be a beast of a phone, making the S5 look very underpowered.
No S pen, thank you very much... Still I will be following the whole event on 24 to see what Samsung will put.
