Prevent screen off while charging - One (M7) General

Hi all,
For the life of me, I couldn't find a setting to prevent my screen from turning off while charging, a feature I was used to on earlier android phones. It's particularly useful since I have my One in a desktop dock frequently, and want to have the screen on constantly.
Thankfully, I found a solution in an app called "Keep Screen On," which does exactly what it says and has an option to keep the screen on while charging.
Hope this helps anyone in a similar situation!

Doesnt the 'stay awake'on charging in display settings already do this for you??

I'm on the AT&T One, and I do not have that setting in Display or Developer Options.

Click several times (i think ten times) and the dev options will pop up in settings.

Edit: Nevermind, cant read

There is no option to keep the device awake while charging for the stock rom. All you can do is make the awake time longer. Retarded imho.
Especially when using the device for GPS....

you don't have that "stay awake" option in stock HTC rom.

I have the stay awake option on a branded 3 network HTC One untouched. Same as above sat right there at the top of the developer options.

This option was removed in the latest update from 1.28 to 1.29. Once you get the latest OTA, this option will be no more available.

Screen does not go off while using certain applications like Navigation, music etc. It is now more application dependent

It def doesn't stay on during music playback. Atleast not using Play Music. I keep having to turn the screen back on when I want to change albums when I'm plugged in in my car. Nav I'm unsure. Been awhile since I've used it. I'll check when I leave for work.
Wish they didn't take the option away.

Yes it is true it does not stay awake in Google Play music. I can confirm that screen is on in following applications:-
1. Phone docked in HTC Car dock and HTC car dock application running. Any application running in car dock mode
2. In Google navigation
3. In Sygic navigation
4. In HTC Music application while it is playing in visualization mode
5. Itunes has inbuilt setting to keep phone awake while music is playing
Similarly all applications requiring phone to be awake like youtube etc while playing will keep screen on.
I dock phone during commute in HTC Car dock with Car dock application running and phone is always awake. On office deck also I dock the phone in HTC car dock and play music in visualization mode to keep phone awake.
In case your are not using HTC official car dock, see if activating car dock application and then playing music through Google play music will keep the screen on.

Use “Stay awake” app from market.
Set “Only while charging”.

Every time I put my ATT SIII into my OEM Samsung Car dock (Infuse), it goes right into Car Mode.
It's buried in the menus:
Settings -> language and input -> text to speech output -> driving mode
Don't ask me why they put it there
When I use a certain (cheap) charging cable my phone goes into car mode. But thats the only time

Exactly what I was wondering.. I'm sure it reads your texts outloud for you maybe? Someone please shed some light..
When I first got my S3 I wondered the same thing and got excited that it might be Google Car Home but sadly it is not.
The way I understand it is just part of the NFC so you can send your notifications/audio through BT.

2/ By sticking a tag on the smartphone car mount, inserting the phone in place would a/switch to car mode b/ turn Bluetooth on to pair with the car or headset c/ send a text to someone to say that you’re back in the car.

Personally I keep Google Car Home on my home screen so I can put it into true car mode myself, when needed.
My lg ally goes into car mode inside of a strong magnetic field.
Car mode is a simplified interface with big buttons and other features that makes it easier to use your phone while driving. OG droids go into car mode when you put a magnet behind the battery door ie putting it into the car dock. I put pandora and pocket casts into my car home. You can make the GS3 go into car mode automatically with nfc if you want to. Download the app from samsung or maybe the play store.

Im using it right now.
works well.
its under options text to speech output and then driving mode is there.
seems like there is some confusion in this thread between google's 'car mode' and the 'driving mode' on the GSIII.
Car Mode is a simplified interface as mentioned above. It does not seem to be included on this phone - I've installed CarHomeUltra which is effectively the same thing with a few bells and whistles. When I plug my phone into my Infuse car dock it automatically launches. Before the installation of this software my phone would jump into SVoice. This seems to be the Samsung replacement for car home - instead of big buttons to press you control by voice. I'm sure this works great for some, but driving a Miata the wind noise is too great for it to work for me.
Driving Mode, selected from the icons in the pull down, or from preferences, is a mode where incoming text messages/sender name are read out loud so that you know what has arrived as you drive without doing something daft like trying to read the screen as you hurtle down the highway. It is definitely present on the T-Mobile version, but I can't verify this for the others, obviously.
Hope this clears a few things up.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257329
Once installed it will not show up in your app list, you'll need to use 'anycut' to create the app icon on your home screen so you can launch it manually (like I do).
Hmmm... drivng mode looks like something I would use, but since I have a Sprint version it's a real pain to get to. Any idea how I could either:
Add a button to the pull down area for it
Create a widget for it.
on the AT&T version this is what the default notification bar looks like. Sync is also included. It continues on the right side (swipe to access).

change brightness

is there anyway to change brightness without minimizing application or going to setting menu or use widgets. Tab 2 has this cool notification bar from where you can do lots of things like changing turning off/on gps,wi-fi,sync, change volume and brightness (manually) or set auto. And it does it without interruption.. very useful! On Nexus 7 it's a whole different thing.. i use power toggles from playstore and it has that option to put the toggles in the notification bar.. it works but not the way i would like it to.. Like for example i'm watching youtube and i want to bump up the brightness i pull down notification bar select brightness slider and youtube stops the video.. now after i adjusted the brightness i have to click on play icon sometimes the video resumes sometimes it reloads or rebuffers.
You get the point.. Thanks!
Try Widgetsoid.
It might work better for you than power toggles

The app is not closing you just sent it to work in background . Just hold the home button and you'll see the app in recents view. And change the interval of screen timeout for at least 1 min.
About battery drain change the governor of the kernel.
Install from playstore Nofrills cpu to change the governor as conservative .
You'll not notice any lag in games or apps .

Swipe Up From Home Button to Lock Screen -- Sharing what I discovered...

The same gesture that you do to get to Google Now can be changed to turning the device/screen off.
Just install this free app called "Screen Off And Lock": https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
Then swipe up from Home (like you would to get to Google Now) and it'll ask you to set a new default:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Grant it permissions, and now, every time you swipe up from Home, you can lock your screen/device from anywhere! Great for those who don't want to overuse the power button, and for those who obviously don't use Google Now like that.
To get rid of it, just go to "Screen Off and Lock" app in your App settings and Clear Defaults (or just uninstall the app).
Just thought I'd share.
Thank you! I love the apps like this.

Bricked kernel supports both tap to wake as well as swipe to wake BUT battery train increases by about 2-3x on idle above having it off. It goes from 0.5 to 1% per hour w/o these enabled to 2-3% w/ enabled. These are both customizable (enable/disable) but be aware of the drain.
This is great for one handed operation when you don't want to reposition the phone.
Very cool, just what my N5 was needing!
Thanks for highlighting this app.
This app disabled the double tap to wake function of the bricked kernel. That is unfortunate, because having both of these running in conjunction would make the N5 a 1 handed notification checking, song changing device when its on your desk or table.
EDIT: Just kidding it was disabled for some reason. I had it set to reenable after start up...so I don't know what happened.

[Q] Google Now and always listening

Dear all,
I would like to hear from you about Google Now shortcut and "always listening" feature like we find on Moto X. I'm tempted about Moto X price/specs but I'm kind of disapointed about his camera and would like to know if is there a way to use those features (always listening with google now) on Note 4.
I read about some tweaks with Tasker killing S-Voice and lauching Google Now instead but I'm searching for a more "natural" alternative.
Is there any chance to get this on note 4?
Nova Launcher allows you to enable that on any phone, and I am enjoying it on my M8
If its not "default" on the note4, I will just enable it that way..

well, I have had it activated almost from the first day I had my M8, so not sure what the battery impact is..my battery still lasts all day, which is what I expect from any modern flagship phone..
and yes, it only works when the phone screen is on, but I use gravity screen anyways, so once I pick up my phone, the screen comes on anyways.
I will be curious to see how the newest version of S Voice works on the Note 4..

Yes only when screen on. There is an app (don't remember it's name, just google it) that enables it when screen is off, but that will drain a lot battery.

I read about some tweaks with Tasker killing S-Voice and lauching Google Now instead but I'm searching for a more "natural" alternative.
Is there any chance to get this on note 4?

there is option inside Google Now for listening but yeah when screen off it doesn't work...
+ if you want exactly same app like what is on moto X devs can port that app for other phones...
(if i buy Note4 I will try to do this )
:good:

Unfortunately, It seems that is not just port the app. If I understood well reading AnandTech review and other posts on this thread the responsible for "always listening" is a dedicated CPU from Texas Instruments called C55x. Using openMic or any other tweak without the proper hardware is just a dirty solution.

Till two or three days ago I thought the same, that's why I didn't understand the reason no other brand (sony, samsung...) was implementing the 'always listening' since they use the same SoC. But according to others, the c55x is the reponsible for this and not the S801/S805.
"Always-on" function gone and replaced by "From any screen". Why?
When you go to the settings of Google Search/Voice/OK Google Detection/
one should see the "Always-on" option.
I used to have it, but right now it´s gone and got replaced by "From any screen". I don´t know how that happened.
The problem is, "From any screen" doesn´t work when the display is OFF.
The "Always-on"-function does work also when the display is OFF.
I already re-installed Google Search, but that didn´t help either.
Anyone got an idea how to get the "Always-On"-function back?
Language and input/voice search/audio history set to ON/OK Google detection/
I hope it will help.

Done that already a few times.
The problem is not that it doesn´t recognize the voice, the problem is that I can´t get it to work when the screen is OFF. It works fine when the screen is on.
turn off bluetooth
set up S-voice completely
open google search, go to settings, google now
turn everything on, retrain it to recognize your voice, also turn on work from any screen
turn off your screen and try it again
what rom are you on?

Done all that already. But I don´t think that "turn on work from any screen", will help anything because this function works only when the screen is ON.
But I want GoogleVoice to work also when the screen is OFF.
Does it work on your device, Wase4711?

yes, it works on my cm 12 remix rom, and has worked on most of the roms I have tried in the last few months.
I always have set it up following the exact instructions I posted above
