APQ8064 can't handle 1080p resolution? - Xperia Z General

My previous phone is Galaxy S3, which has a Mali 400 GPU
and now my Xperia Z with Adreno 320 is supposed to perform far better than Galaxy S3 but actually,
it lags.
Just play these games
1. NFS Most Wanted
2. Real Racing 3
3. GTA Vice City
at first it is smooth, but when i play for a long time it does lag
I wonder why

i also had a galaxy s3 before & let me tell you that real racing 3 lagged like hell on the s3 even when i had it overclocked. i now have the xperia z & real racing 3 runs silky smooth. NFS & Vice City ran smooth on s3 & runs even smoother on the Z.

I tried Real Racing, and you're right, the FPS is less than ideal - but I wouldn't say it can't handle 1080p resolution... it can handle it very well in 99% scenarios.

RR3 was smooth on my phone

Maybe u reached overheat limits..at this point subway surfers lags too..otherwise any game with the phone is super smooth
Sent from my C6602 using xda premium

The Xperia Z destroys the SIII and even the Nexus 4 which has the same specs at a lower resolution, and holds its own against the better spec'd One and SIV.

Your resource management is poor. Even then, things should be smooth.

[Q] Gaming/Gameplay Performance review

I havent seen any vids showing gameplay performance on the Desire HD except angry birds. Has anyone found any or plan on doing one to demo some gameplay videos such as asphalt/nova/modern combat.. its just to see the difference between the smoothness of the HTC Desire (Adreno 200) and Desire HD (Adreno 205).. Im just afraid that there arent much difference between it.
And btw, have any of you guys played some 3D games on your Desire HD? How was it and how do u compare to other snapdragon phones for an example and is it better compared to other snapdragon phones?
Spill some reviews on this please
It benchmarks twice as fast as the one in the Desire, so the difference should be noticeable (unless the games you're testing aren't pushing hard enough of course).

Yes, the gaming sector is geared towards PowerVR as can be found on both the Galaxy S & i-Phone.
These games running on the SGS are absolutely fantastic and when you then hook it up to a large 42" LED TV it's unbelievable quality for a phone.
I do believe HTC missed a trick in not incorporating a TV Out on their flagship phone.

All the gameloft games like nova and sandstorm you have to buy from their website http://www.gameloft.com.au/android-games/top/
as they aren't sold on the market.
All the games play very smoothly, and although the sgs has a more powerful gpu android games are seemingly more optimized for Qualcomm processors, so trust me when I say games play as smooth as butter.

when people will understand that all the games on the market right now are based on nexus 1 as its the phone those devs are using to develope for it ?

im not quite sure.. u have facts there but i see that games are ported from iOS (powerVR based) to android and it would be an advantage for PowerVR based phones such as motorola's and samsung.. but that is what it is used to be, now im seeing that games are ported properly for snapdragon based thus we are seeing an increase of performance compared to previously, we cant even play NFS Shift before it is ported to snapdragon phones properly..
The rumored Sony PSP phone is a snapdragon/adreno205 based.. sweet.. hopefully more devs will focus more on adreno since the number of adreno based phones is growing..

Not true.... Games such as those from Gameloft are initially made for the i-Phone and ported to Android. The i-Phone uses the same processor as the SGS (PowerVR).
As override182 says ~ It is up to developers to recompile for Adreno.

XP play performance and graphics

hiya i have a desire hd and xp play. i play ashpalt 6 on both of them and feel like the display, speed and performance of game on desire hd is lot better than xp play?
Its possible, I don't know the desires specs but the play is not a power house, though I find the experience enjoyable.

Both the Xplay and the Desire HD use an Andreno 205 gpu
Both the Xplay and the Desire HD use a second generation 1ghz Snapdragon MSM8255 CPU
The only difference is the HD has 50% more ram, which, in the case of gaming, maybe the odd stuttering on the xplay
i think the desire hd has a 480x800 screen whereas the play has a 480 x 854 screen which could affect performance

How exactly is it worse on the play? I dont have a hd to compare but the game runs flawlessly on my play, the only place it seems a little slow is the menu screens but the actual game is fine
I get major slowdowns in Asphalt on the PLAY.
In fact all Gameloft games are quite bad. Backstab (which I just completed), and even Everybodys Gold stutters.
They should have gave the PLAY more power.

Chainfire 3d is the single most useful thing you can install to stop the stuttering.
It is a mediator between the app and the open gl drivers.
It actually works pretty darn good.

Cool, good to know.
To be honest I don't notice any major slowdown on the play on any game. In fact when I first tried out the games my first thought was how well they all ran. I found the menu screen to be a tad laggy (button press isn't immediate), but the actual gameplay is just fine.
That is until Asphalt decided to **** the bed...I'm thinking it was my reinstall/update.

So, you're telling us that the Play works worse than the Desire HD, and as test devices we get stock Xperia Play (1 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, unoptimized code) against a Desire HD with 80% more clock speed than stock, more RAM (albeit with a lower bus speed) and a much more refined code than stock. Is that a meaningful comparison?

I'd say Let's Golf stutters due to poor programming, not because it taxes the Xperia Play. It stutters when and only when the computer is playing.

Mali400 too weak for Note?

There are many games with stuttering issues, such as Asphalt 6 HD or this gameloft modern warfare clone. Maybe the Mail400 is too weak for the notes resolution? After all it was build for the SGS2 with lower res...
I noticed it too.
Hope You are wrong and ICS will solve this stuttering... If not I'm gonna sell my device and return to my old sGs2 that was smooth as silk
The Note stutters a lot more than the SII even outside gaming. Hopefully the ICS build for the Note is as decent as the one on the SII.

Make sure your large-sized games are stored on the INTERNAL memory and not on your SD card. The internal memory reads at 30mb/s. Your SD card will not come close to that.

I think the GPU and CPU are fast enough, but the problem is within the rom.
Reckless racing 2, no doubt not the most intensive game, stutters on the Note with GB,
But while I was on ICS Leak (Rocket 1.5) the game was flawless.
So, I would place my bets on ICS delivering the Performance we are lacking.

I believe the reason for this is because ICS has GPU Acceleration Enabled where as GB does not however... I am on Darky Note ROM and it has the GPU Acceleration coded into it and I have never seen any stuttering of any kind using this ROM.
Perhaps give that a try...
You need Tegrak Ultimate and lock the gpu to 267 MHz.

ICS wont fix it for games that already have gpu acceleration. you can do lots with software, but you cant make up for a GPU that doesnt have enough graphical power.
the reason why the note stutters more on games that dont stutter on the S2 is because the note has 2.66 times as many pixels at any given time (384000 pixels on s2 screen vs 1024000 pixels screen). the mali gpu doesnt have enough graphical processing power for graphically demanding games on our notes, hence it has difficulty maintaining a steady 60fps in some games (or 57 since that's the refresh rate for our notes).

The question is though if the games are programmed to bring the mail400 to the limit. After all it's still better in almost all other phones, you need to take that into consideration. It's hard to tell also because I don't KNOW how most of the games are supposed to run. F.E. the MW clone from gameloft, does it run at 60 on the S2? It sure doesn't for me on the note, feels pretty ****ty.
Even a game like Pocket League Soccer is slowing down in quality mode...maybe 720p is just too much. Wouldn't come by surprise though.

[Q] Gaming

Do vice city and gta 3 lag on nexus 4? Are there any high graphical 3d games that lag on nexus 4? Is it good for hardcore gaming at budget?
I honestly just got my N4 have had it for about 3 weeks.
Every game I've bought/downloaded and played has never lagged.
Right now I'm on a Real Racing 3 spree.
The game runs phenomenal.
I also downloaded Dead Trigger 2, modded the .XML file to run at highest graphic setting (for some reason it wouldn't run at full optimization on my phone so I did a little tweaking) and it runs amazing.
I don't expect any lag to come from a quad core 2g of ram phone running pure android.
Hell when I had my GS3 every game ran smoothly.
If you or any user experiences any lag it's either on the user end or in some cases (if you flash a buggy ROM) the ROM will act up.

Well, Hi.. I have played gta 3 on my n4 for about a week and at max graphics, dynamic shadows, resolution clocked at 60%... It runs awesome...
But where density of polygons is more,, it lags a bit....
Moreover, my experience is great!! You will definitely unleash the power of 2 gigs ram equipped with Qualcomm Adreno 320 GPU for max performance..!!
:good::good::good:
If I helped, Don't Hesitate to push THANKS!!Cheers!!
Gta vc does lag a bit when driving with everything on max unless I am overclocked and on a optimised rom. One game that does lag a bit though is oil rush 3d but I'm not surprised as it's probably the best looking android game I've ever seen.

Snapdragon Qualcomm 800 is already here in phones like LG G2, Samsung Curve...
About contracts, I dont know..

Considering the Nexus4 ppwer. Why is it.

Why some mid range games lag? Before I update the gpu and flash zip to optimize dalvic and bionic. They lag. It is tolerable for many but not for me. Also after I flash and zips and the gpu update still its lags. You dont have the smoothness that you expect in the Nexus 4 while playing. Games lime temple runs, and vector.
Btw Im all stock but rooted.
Thanks!!

Which games lag?
It could be your kernel settings. Some games aren't optimized well. Despicable Me sometimes lags on Android but it's butter smooth on iOS, while a game like Subway surfers is very smooth on Android, lags like hell on all iPhones.
Optimisation...
There are only few games those are optimizated for Android, but the majority runs really bad! Look at games like The Walking Dead (Telltale), Android port is horrible than the iPhone one.

I still haven't tried GTA on my N4, All GTA games worked at 60fps on my ex-Note II, and it had a Mali 400 which i think is weaker than Adreno 320.

Ok then, but I doubt you maxed them. GTAs are very heavy and there is no device that can handle them maxed at 60 FPS for now, trust me.

Every benchmark admit that the Nexus 4 is much more powerful than Note 2 in gaming (http://www.phonearena.com/news/Benc...s-Optimus-G-Pro-vs-Nexus-4-vs-HTC-One_id41542).
I don't know, maybe it's the thermal trhottling, that's really really strange.

Most likely, all Qualcomm phones i had (from S1 to S4) were prone to heating. Exynos was cooler but many Samsung flagships (S2,S3,S4,NI,NII,NIII) have eMMC brick bugs...aka Sudden death syndrome...thats why i sold my Note, i was afraid it would stop working

I heard that... It isn't such a problem if you don't flash a ROM with the active bug (two summers ago Samsung relased a ROM with the comand to active the bug for S2, many devices died :\).
Anyway, I'm trying again GTA SA with my Nexus 4 (High settings, shadow med, low reflection, full resolution) and it goes at + or - 40 FPS, just saying...

Have you tried undervolting for less heat? I think 700uV for 184mhz and 1025uV for 1512mhz is the limit, anything under that is an instant crash
How did all of you knew the fps of every game you play? Haha

Just downloaded the fps meter and the result was I got average of 33fps playing despicable me and 58 fps avg. On subway surfers

Hey man. Does undevolting requires underclocking? Or does undervolting affects the performance or just fix the thermal throtling?

When I change kernel\ROM the first thing I do is setting Trickster, and I've a decent Undervoltage.
I have a nominal CPU and the limit for 1512, in my case, is only 10625. Anyway, I had problem with temperature with 4.2.2, but from 4.3 it got better and better

Absolutely not, uv and uc are different things. Undervolting doesn't fix thermal throtling, but minor voltage is equal at minor warm (Did i write it right?)

So sir the lesser the voltage the longer it will take the nexus to get hot? Or to throtlle?
