Sony's Unresponded Email Message. - Xperia Tablet Z General

Hi folks,
I too have pre-ordered the new Sony tablet, but I also have been rather concerned about it's delay.
So, I sent them an email outlining my concerns, but they have still yet to respond.
This is what I said to Sony...
----------
Hello,
Way back on the 18th February this year Sony unveiled the new Sony Xperia Tablet Z in Barcelona, and I admit I was rather impressed, however, you didn't launch this product immediately, instead you waited.
Although, I think Sony began to sense peoples' frustration and finally by mid-March started taking pre-orders, and so for me, and on the 20th March 2013 I did, expecting to still have to wait another 4 weeks or so, - and so I waited, - patiently.
And yet, shortly before the dispatch date, Sony called and left a message stating that their had been a delay, and that the month on the release date had been incorrectly entered. (15/04 should've been 15/05) - An excuse to this day I do not accept. - and so I waited impatiently.
And, now that time has arrived once again, and once again I have been informed (albeit, this time I had to dig for this information) that there is now an extended delay of another 10 days. and now I am simply bored.
Officially, you have insisted that there is no technical problem with this new device, and obviously your previous excuse of a simple clerical error was not true in the slightest, as you would have honoured the second and revised release date.
So, I am left wondering what has gone wrong, and whether to simply cancel this never-ending order. Based on your lack of truth thus far, I am concerned that I could be spending money on something that may have a serious underlying technical problem.
Since its initial display, it will now be well over 3 months, and in this industry it might as well be a lifetime. Given the sheer number of devices available to all, a whole quarter spent on one item in this class surely can only amount to mockery. And Sony will never get back on track if that is the best that they can do. Given that Android 5 (Key Lime Pie) is not too far away, should I really settle for the Tablet Z, or that Apple Ipad 5 is due for its unveiling soon also.
I really struggle to justify why I should retain this order....
----------
Anybody whom can shed any relevant information regarding this issue, sharing it here would be most appreciated.

look on the bright side
key lime pie is still far away, heck google didn't even announce 4.3 yet
this tablet still got a greatd life ahead
sony has opened an aosp github and this tablet already has official cyanogen support.
so no reason to worry there mate
if you pre-ordered, it should land on your doormat next week

Thanks buddy!
I'm already looking forward to it, as I'm pleased with the phone, and will hope to have the matching set.
I deliberately made my initial email harsh and contentious, to better gauge their response. But my spiky tooth seems to of proved that Sony CS are chicken.

Get use to Sony's non-support!

Don't trust when it comes to updates and released of phones/tablet. Look at Xperia Z they said 4.2 update will be there right after released.

I called Sony.NL (although the sony rep sounded more like she was from Sony.Be) they said they had already started delivery and mine should be out may 23rd

"Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to get multi-touch and Android 2.1?!
April 14, 2010 at 12:05 pm by Dan | In Mobile News, Mobile Phones, New Mobile Phones
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a worthy addition to the ever growing Android family, bringing a huge touchscreen display, best in class camera and unique offerings such as Timescape and Mediascape. But, as good as it is, the X10 is not without it’s drawbacks, most notably the fact that it’s stuck languishing on Android 1.6 and lacks support for multi-touch. But, this could all be about to change should the mutterings of a Sony Ericsson employee be taken at face value.
Speaking at the press event for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 launch, the Sony Ericsson rep responded to criticisms of the outdated OS by stating that a “very big update” was due in Q2 of this year. Though obviously not wanting to give too much away, very big to us would definitely point towards the X10 joining the Android 2.1 crowd. That is unless Sony Ericsson have stolen a march on their rivals and will be updating to a new and as yet unreleased version of Android! Whatever it is, it’s gonna be big!
As if this wasn’t exciting enough, our man on the inside was also able to shed some light on the lack of multi-touch and potentially quash the rumours that the limitations are hardware based. Though specific details were thin on the ground, apparently multi-touch is also something that is on the cards and similarly we can expect to see an update at some point in the second quarter of the year. Keep an eye on the blog for more information as and when we get it.
UPDATE: Since this post was published, we’ve been contacted by Sony Ericsson who have stated that the X10 update will be available in the second HALF of 2010 (around September) rather than Q2. Apologies for the confusion but still, better late than never"
WOW, someone confirm. This is like mind blowing =O
EDIT
You should make the title something like "SE Confirms MT In Android 2.1?" Cause people probably think its another thread asking about MT
Hey SE....Less talk, more roll out!!!
The article is dated 16th of April.
Yea, def read that in April haha, nothing new, and pretty sure that link has been posted before.
Why not just wait and see? Nobody knows for sure. If you want mt, get Galaxy S or iPhone... Can we stop beating the dead horse?

ROAR!!! i tot x10 really might have MT!! then i read the rest of the treads-.- April, sound like a April fool joke to me. damn=/
Those articles were everywhere in april but se then came out and said (in may I think) that the hardware doesn't support it.

yes there is no perfect news about multitouch but in most of places it is clerly mentioned that harware of X10 does not support multitouch ( said by some sony official ) so final opinion is X10 will not have mutitouch even after the upgrade

You're in Japan as well? I hope it takes only 2 days to get here. The wait is killing me.
Chinese new year starts I think today, if they wait to ship it will be 3 weeks.

I was one of those 50 un-fortunate guys whose shipping date changed from 9th Jan to 15-22 Jan and to 29th Jan, its already 3:00 p.m in U.A.E and no news from NI or factory. I'm not asking for any tracking no, just need a confirmation at moment that its shipped. I really don't know what to talk about this company at the moment. We all have waited so long with false hope. At-least NI don't fails us again.
Well, it is almost 8 pm in China at the moment, so I lost my faith in it at this moment...

Think positive. Better to get adam in March, than next year.
Honestly, I am ok with it being delayed, but in all honesty its bad form to post a sarcastic blog about how everything is not delayed, and then have it delayed:

Better to have a Xoom in February than an Adam in March.
...all kidding aside, I'm really hoping they got the shipments out and just haven't updated things. With the holidays going in in China right now, it could REALLY slow things down and I'm not interested in waiting any longer.
--edit--
And to the topic of the thread, there hasn't been any change in my order status lately. (Moved from the 9th to the 15th-22nd window to the 29th.)

Yeah, I am not going to wait if my order gets pushed back again. This is getting rediculous. Their are so many great tablets coming out and if I can't get my Adam soon I am going to go else where. Don't get me wrong, I really want the Adam but I feel add if notion ink thinks that everyone is going to put up with continual delays without giving us any info as to what's going on. They should at least give us an update as it is the 29th.

I honestly cannot see us (the 9th > 15th-22nd > 29th club) getting their Adams for at least 2 weeks - Chinese New Year.
A shameful lack of communication from NI and hve you guys realised the "cancel your order has been removed from the NI preorder update page.
I have been a loyal follower for 9 months, I'm just disappointed to say I no longer believe anything posted by Rohan regarding hardware specs and especially shipping dates.
Rohan Shravan just outright refuses to update on shipping which is an enormous worry. The last he said was "2nd and 3rd" batches would ship on time and then slips in the Chinese New Year problem.
I don't even have a pre-order so i am thinking April+ for me(and many others) to have a chance to get one.
I don't envy Mr. Shravan to much, he must be under much stress from all directions.
Well, maybe........
- I read somewhere that a notification will be send only after it arrived in Hong Kong, not out of the fabric
- The cancellation link from our preordersite has been removed
- Rohan said in his blog the 2nd batch will be in time
- There is no statement of delay such as the last delay (12 seconds before end of day)
- Chinese New Year starts on tuesday?
So maybe, just maybe we will get our trackingmail on monday, the last day before Chinese New Year???
Fingers crossed :-o
Leon
I read someone in NotionAddicts requested a cancellation on the shipping date, and was told (s)he could still cancel as his (her) Adam was not shipped.
So, I rather assume the shipment was delayed without any notice / a change in the estimated shipping date on the NI site than get disappointed.
I'm pretty sure Rohan stated on the blog that all the Adams would be shipped out even during the chinese new year. And that a small batch of screens got busted on their way over, but the company that makes them will stay and fix the ones that got broken before they leave for the new year.
Here's his quote taken from the blog:
"The second & third phase of shipments will start on time.
Little bad and good news, one of our shipments for the touch screens got damaged while transportation which is going to effect a fraction of our customers. To make things worse, its New Year in China and every manufacturing plant is closed. But our touch-screen partners, Sinotek (also known as Sintek), will stay open for the Chinese New Year and re-manufacture all the remaining touch screens to deliver. I am making this special note, because we are really overwhelm at their response and want to thank all the employees at their firm who are going to miss their New Year celebrations and home visits."
So have hope! At least you made it into the pre orders. I have to wait until they open it up to the public.

Gingerbread on X10 delayed in August

According to SE blog Gingerbread is delayed in August:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/06/20/update-on-gingerbread-for-xperia™-x10/
While this is a bad news for X10 owners they have some excuses:
"...March most of the 2011 XperiaTM software functionality from e.g. XperiaTM arc will be included. The UI with the desktop layout and pinch-to-overview gesture will be similar and Gingerbread features like Wi-Fi & USB tethering, App storage on SD-card etc are included. Also the customizable horizontal app tray and the media experience widgets from the 2011 XperiaTM Products are in, including an integrated equalizer in the music player. Of course also apps that require Android versions 2.2 or 2.3 will now be possible to download from Android Market, e.g. Adobe flash."
August is not so far away so let's see. I am not o pressed anymore as I have also my Arc

the reason was explained in the blog and the discussion is happening in the gingerbread update discussion thread.
I actually had faith in SE, but now they've delayed their update I don't care what device they will bring in the future. Also the only improvement of our devs their roms will be the camera. I will move to HTC (Only if they get a nice design) or else I will go to Samsung. They said it's planned for end Q2/begin Q3. August is not the begin but middle of Q3!! I'm very dissapointed as SE customer and I spend my damn money on this phone that will not even kept as updated as a Arc would be.
1.5 years left, and I can finally say Hello to HTC/Samsung and bye SE. I don't care what ever they say, they promised fast updates. Well I see, months of work and still a late release then promised. Also, great customer service. NOT, they can't even reply to your questions, and mostly in a NORMAL way without typefaults.

Ice Cream Sandwich Launch Event Next Week

According to the Droid-Life article, ICS launch will be unveiled at Samsung's event next week. Wouldn't you think Google would be publicizing this a little more?
Other than access to more apps due to the scaling feature I haven't heard all that much about what other changes tablets will see.

How long do you think it is going to take Samsung to update our tabs once ICS is released?
Hopefull we get this soon as I'm frustrated with Honeycomb performance and lack of tablet apps.
I'm on the verge of selling this after 1 month.
The event was postponed...
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/samsung-and-google-postpone-ice-cream-sandwich-and-galaxy-nexus/
Now they're saying it was out of respect for Steve Jobs... I'm all for honoring an icon in the industry, but this seems a little absurd to postpone an event that's a week later. What's the appropriate waiting period for other business to conduct themselves as usual???
Its supposedly the day of his funeral and some top Google people will be in attendance. And its not a day that "other" news is going to feature prominently.
Class move by Google, if you ask me. They'll probably talk about ICS/Prime later in the week, since CTIA runs through the 13th.
Well if his funeral is next week that will take away the show
Yes sounds cruel but is the reality

OEMs that promise 18 Months+ Software Support

Since Motorola / Lenovo now seem happy to abandon support for Moto G handsets within months of release, I thought it might be helpful to compile a list of OEMs that promise publicly (and hopefully deliver in timely fashion) 18 Months or more software support. I will update this post and clarify points when necessary.
Obviously Google's 'Pixel' and Samsung Flagship phones are in a completely different price-range to Moto G, but I'll include them for the sake of understanding the current situation.
Google 'Pixel' - Software Updates: 2 Years / Security fixes: 3 Years - Current Price: €700 / $625.
Samsung - Software Updates: Unknown / Security fixes: Monthly fixes promised (Depending on handset)
Huawei 'Honor' handsets - starting with Honor 8 - Software Updates: 2 Years / Security fixes: 2 Years (link) Current Price: €300 / $280. Note: 'Major updates at least once every three months.'
Perhaps there will be some announcements from Google / OEMs / Chipset manufacturers at this year's CES starting next week.
Posting to follow... Call me a Negative Nelly here, but until OEMs can prove that they will actually stand behind a 18/24 month update policy, except for Nexus/Pixel devices, I'm not buying it. Huawei has a rather spotty track record with updates, as does Samsung (although they improved a lot recently with their higher-end models).
That said, don't count out the ZTE Axon line just yet, they haven't came right out and said 2 years support (although they do have a 2 year warranty standard), but more along the lines of they want to step into the Nexus lines shoes in the $300-$400 price range, and have implied that meant updates, but NOT the same developer support, as Google gives the Nexus line... I will admit that I am surprised to see my son's Axon 7 get an update the first week of every month since he got it, granted that's only 2 updates so far and no Nougat yet.
Don't forget that in 2012 and 2014, Google tried to get OEMs to agree to a 18-24 month update policy, most OEMs accepted in 2012 and failed, few agreed in 2014 other than in principle to improve update time lines. In terms of upgrades/updates, Android is a fragmented mess... just the way it is.
The Huawei Honor 8 was apparently selling for $250 during Black Friday; so around $50 more than the price of a Moto G 4th Gen, but with some assurance of updates. The downside is that due to their UI (and customisation), that handset is not getting Nougat until February 2017.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/1...r-8-will-receive-nougat-emui-5-february-2017/
It's perhaps worth contemplating that the nexus of Moto G was during a time when Google was an OEM - by owning Motorola Mobility. That time is here again, now that Google are manufacturing (more or less) it's own handsets. Could we see a $200 Pixel variant with 24 Months of software support this year? Would it have to be Daydream VR compatible? Maybe it's possible with some future revision of the Snapdragon 6XX chipset.

Google are clearly trying to present themselves as an OEM (no mention of HTC during Pixel phone launch show) and they are actively exercising ever greater control of what is being produced, not to mention still owning patents (maybe irrelevant) from the Motorola Mobility acquisition. It just seems to me that the pieces are in place to see a true spiritual successor to the Moto G - if Google really wanted such a thing to happen.
"There is no HTC branding because this is a Google phone that brings together premium hardware by multiple partners to serve a best in class software experience for users," said a company spokesman.

The Huawei 'Honor 6X' has been revealed and conveys a very questionable attitude towards updates.
During the phone's presentation at CES 2017 in Las Vegas, Honor revealed that it's planning to update the new smartphone to Android 7.0 Nougat in the second quarter of the year. This means as soon as April, and as late as June 2017.

Will this lax attitude be how they apply their '24 month update promise' to their more expensive handsets?

It's good to see AP tell it how it is. Many of the other reviews gloss over the situation. I was seriously considering a 'Honor' phone as my next handset, but now I'm really cautious about them.

Yeah, you would most likely hate the interface anyway emui is like a cross between LG and Apple interface... My son had a HAM2 and doesn't mod or change anything, within 15 minutes he was discovering Nova Launcher and SwiftKey. When he was looking for a new phone a couple months ago he looked at the Honor 5x and the specs looked good until he asked if it had that "emui thing" like his old one and when I said yes, he just said no.
From what we have seen of Huawei, great hardware for the money but terrible software, bad enough to ruin the whole user experience for the average user (and as a stock Android fan, it frustrated me when I had to help him too).

At this point I was prepared to 'gut' the UI to reduce irritation and improve performance. But I suppose it's not unfair to assume if a phone has a sloppy UI, it's going to have sloppy software support also.
Google is expanding its “Android One” program for low-cost smartphones to the U.S in coming months, promising phone makers major new promotional dollars if they play by its rules, say three people briefed on the plan. *
The first phone to launch in the U.S. with Google’s Android One seal of approval, backed by an ad campaign funded by Google, is expected before the middle of the year. It will be made by a phone manufacturer whose identity couldn’t be learned. It will be different from other Android phones because it will guarantee timely software updates, including security updates, for two years from sale date, one of the people said. That’s something Android often fails to do, unlike Apple. The phone is expected to be priced in the $200-$300 price range, said two of the people.

This is what I have been waiting for. A budget version of the Google Pixel (with Daydream VR support *fingers crossed*)
Finally, our source has indicated to us that Google is internally testing a “few” prototypes of a device they referred to as “Pixel 2B”, which would purportedly be released either “alongside or shortly after Pixel 2”. This phone would bring with it a lower-price point and less powerful hardware, and would be “aimed at different markets,” our source says. Google’s end goal is to bring the “Google experience and the Google Phone to emerging markets,” which is something the company definitely has shown a passion for in the past.

"realistic" Kris here... I remember that a small bunch of us were hanging on waiting for a L update for the Moto Atrix HD. The moto web site actually said we were supposed to get it. Of course it never happened. I noticed with amusement that (it looked like) everybody but the USA got 6.0.1 for the Moto G3. I always assumed that 6.0.1 was more trouble that it was worth so didn't mind. I have been away from flashing custom ROMs for at least 9 months so was a bit surprised to find a group here waiting for N on the Moto G3. Never happen. Not financially useful for them. Can't sell new phones if they do. They only ever lose just a few folks from buying a phone. 95% just don't care - wouldn't know what an update was.
Phones like the Pixel are expensive and can serve as a testbed for releases/fixes. It's a win/win for google.
Just my 2 cents. Getting off soapbox. (just flashed Legacy 0207)

No offense, but I never heard any rumors that Moto might announce a second list... The list hasn't changed, the exception was made for the E3P because it's release date was so close to this list, late Sept if I recall correctly, and the list was announced Oct, so everyone assumed it would get Nougat but they were wrong, it was a logical exception. In other words, the original list is still correct for the devices that were available at the time.
