How is the battery Life compared to Galaxy Note 2 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am searching for phone with a good battery life. The newest reviews give the S4 really good battery life scores. But I am more interestet in real life tests by XDA members.
After looking at the battery posts in S4 forum I have to say that I am not really satisfied by the stats the user post.
The stats are really so medicore, that I sometimes really had to laugh.
How about the battery life compared with the note 2?

Not as good as the Note 2. Better than the GS3.

I heard that before, but I am not sure after reading the latest benchmarks.
Here is one for example. Just scroll down and press the "+" button.
The degree S4 scores is quite different compared to early reviews.

How can you compare the 2? The gn2 battery lady's forever, on my g's 4 depends on the usage of it go soft on it the most I got out of it is 5hrs screen on time with 1day5hrs uptime. Today I'm at 4 hours screen on time with 40prct left. I'm listening to soundcloud and played virtua tennis a bit. 9hrs uptime

Having jumped from a note2 to a s4 I can say the battery life sucks compared to it. Sucks badly imo.
On same usage from day to day the note2 would have 50 percent left at the end of the day. This one is barely holding on. And by that I mean moderate useage, push email, some gaming and Internet.

short answer: depends on what you use the most.
but,the galaxy s4 has great battery life lol... def better than my droid 3, i'll blow through that things 1500mah battery in less than a day easily, which moderate use lol

Calling all tab owners!!!

Hey guys,
I am counting the days until the 1st November so I can purchase my Galaxy Tab.
I just have one question for you. What is the battery life like on your Tabs?
I have done a little maths and so far my results have told me that the battery life should be over double the life of a Samsung Galaxy S.
Maths:
Galaxy Tab: 4000 mah
Galaxy S: 1500 mah
Sinse the Galaxy tab has exactly the same specs as the galaxy s, the only thing I could think of that will drain the battery faster is the bigger screen on the tab.
Now lets pretend that the galaxy tab screen is 8 inches, exactly double of the galaxy s. Lets also pretend that the 8 inch screen makes the whole device consume 100% more than the Galaxy S. This means 3000 mah would make the device equivalent to a Galaxy S. That leaves 1000 extra mah!!
These figures are all over estimation so im hoping that it is double the battery life of the Galaxy s.
Are you guys getting these results?
for now im happy with mine
Mine is very good and i am a heavy user.
I can get at least 1.5 days out of it.
Seems good so far. I've been using mine heavily for last three days (typing this on it now) and it's been at about 40% battery when I go to bed and hook it up to the charger.
thanks for the info guys! sounds very good. I cant wait for november 1st!! so you guys think the battery is definatly noticebly better than the battery life of a high end android phone?
its not the best battery but better and can become more better with firmware updates
i have its since last saturday and i am getting decent 1 day battery with heavy usage
Yeah about a day on a full charge. By the way, could I have any problems from using a USB extender cable? The provided cable is pretty short.
Some days its ok, but days when I use 3G connection a lot the battery drains around 5:00 pm.
The battery life on my Galaxy-S phone is much better.
of course I use brightness on max most of the time...

Well, you can think of the issue this way: 8" diagonal vs 4" means 4 times bigger area.
With that said, you can not forget that it uses Super Crystal LCD vs SuperAMOLED
SuperAMOLED display is known as less power consuming than other, since it displays black without consuming power and works extremely hard showing white. So on black themes it is much less consuming than already bigger LCD the Tab got.
Third, the resolution itself. 1024x600 is roughly 2 times more than 800X480 which means twice as much processing power should be spent on exhibiting something on this already bigger, hungrier display.
So. If it was as simple as you think it should have last for a few hour using your equation.
P.S.
Mine is working 1.5 days with moderate usage.
it goes from 8 am to 8 pm but only barely. In fact I did run it down to 10% today. I will be buying a USB cable as soon as I can find one to plug it in in the office. I have 3G, WiFi and Bluetooh turned on all the time an run the screen at a decent brightness level though.
So basically, people with bad batter life have loads of things running (WiFi, 3G, BT) with high brightness.

Yep. Mine will last a full day from 7 am till 10pm. Using it to talk, video, browse and of course games. ..

[Q] Battery life question (before buying)

I'm considering buying Nexus 4 and after reading various reviews and user opinions my only concern is - how is the battery life?
Some are saying it's great, others are saying it's crap... See me confused.
I've got no intention of using it for watching movies or heavy gaming, but would still like it to last me at least whole day without charging (24 hrs).
Currently, my SGS2 lasts from 1,5-2 days without charging (I'm using JuiceDefender).
Can anyone comment on the subject, especially compared to SGS2?
I had a galaxy s2 before the nexus. Compared to my s2 the nexus pisses through power mainly on WiFi and surfing the web. Location services and google now use battery a lot too + overnight i loose more power compared to thr s2. I'm hoping its software related and Google improve battery in updates to JB.
I don't believe those who say the battery is great for one minute.
Pretty damn good so far for me my SGS2 would be dead in half the time, even with the screen off!

Who watches porn on a small screen vs a huge monitor? :silly:
Depending on the apps you use, battery drain can be a huge downer for this phone. I use eBuddies for aim chats at work and that thing drains through, so does GChat. Navigation apps such as Google Maps or Navigon also burn battery like there's no tomorrow.
So the question of battery life really is dependent on your daily needs. The difference with other phones is that some have removable batteries.
Expect to invest in a mobile recharger, or to have spare charge cables always on hand with this phone.
I don't do much with my N4 during the day and came over from an SGS2. SGS2 by far outperforms the N4 on battery life from my experiences.
It seems the N4 has fantastic idle battery drain. I let it sit a full 7 hours over night and lost 3% battery, but it seems when you're actually using the phone, the battery is middle of the road. I'd say its still better than my S2 and as good, or slightly better than my S3. :good:

Nexus 4 Battery Life

Hey Guys,
A bunch of people are complaining about the battery life on Nexus 4. I've been waited for a couple days since I got the device, to have enough confident about the battery before I make any post here. Yes, the phone battery drain pretty fast on the first few cycles. After a bunch more charges later, let me tell this, the battery life did get significantly better. It lasted about 10-15 hr depends on the load of the usage.
Here is my typical day, off the charge at 100% in the morning, listen to a few songs, checking emails, and messages while getting ready for school. About an 30mn to 1hr of internet browser and youtube videos while on the bus. By 1-2pm the battery drop the about 70-80%. I put the phone in silent mood til i'm done with all my classes. On the way back home on the bus, I listened to a bunch of music, web browsing, maybe a few phone calls, texts or games.
Compare to my old phone, Samsung Galaxy S2 T989, im impressed with the Nexus 4 battery life. My Galaxy S2 battery always die on the bus coming back home. What I'm trying to get at: if you're a light to medium user like me, then get this phone. I was hesitate at first because I always have bad experience with android battery life. But Google seem to get its OS right with this nexus device, mainly because the battery drain minimum while in sleeping mood.
Can you post your Nexus 4 battery performance screenshot if you have been using the phone for more than a few days ?
Is there supposed to be a question being asked? Or a statement as this is in the Q&A forum.
I agree with you on many points. People need to wait at least 5 to 7 days for the battery charge to fully kick in. The first days mean absolutely nothing as it is still being aligned plus the user is still installing apps and setting up their phone.
There are some notable problems in the default kernel that uses more battery Usage than normal too.

From full battery to this overnight + breakfast usage. Rasbean + Matr1x v3.0. Never seen anything like it. Coming from the GN, this phone is a different dimension altogether. On any aspect..
Had phone for 5 days. Drained phone to 10% then fully charged. Moderate to light use made it through a day.
Stock rooted + Franco Kernel.

Depends on how much screen time you got, which you didn't show us.
The trick is to be careful about using mobile data when signal is bad, I switch to WiFi when home to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

What is this obsession for battery life, it lasts me well through the day with moderate/heavy use. I charge it at night (if needed) and unless you are homeleless this shouldn`t be a problem. It`s a great phone and i enjoy using it.

I thought the same until my N4 actually arrived, it seems battery life is abysmal compared to my Optimus 2x which didnt have anything really spectacular in regards to battery size. On my O2x I could get 1.5 - 2.5 days depending on use, hitting atleast 1 .5 which was good and acceptable for me (I can charge at night anyways) however my N4 doesnt even reach 13 hours on similar usage!.
I am quite a light users of smartphones however I do like to have a power phone when it comes to using it on the basis of smoothness and capabilities if I need to say do work on my phone, I rarely play games though. Main usage is 2 email accounts on poll 1 hour steps, a third account that is an exchange server and polls in 30 minute steps and thats about it with some brief browsing and a handful of texts (been a quite time since I got my N4), this is less usage than my O2x and yet it still performs alot worse!
I was hoping of staying with stock as I was expecting it to finally be good, comparing it to LG stock attempts it is but battery life isnt . I will be trying the combo Vangelis13 mentioned, raspbean and matr1x kernel as that seems like a great mix however Parandroid has been on the table and it seems like alot of being are getting good results so I will try it soon .
If I can get more than a day of usage I would be really happy, if I was playing games or doing really heavy tasks I wouldnt expect it to last but right now it is doing pretty much nothing and dieing far to fast!.
One thing I've noticed since coming to N4 from S2 is that phone calls drain battery much more significantly on the N4. I could make an hour long call on my S2 and it would use no more than a couple of percent battery but the N4 used 15% for an hour long phone call the other night.
If I didn't own a nexus 4 and came to this thread to find out about it's battery life I would expect it to be good.
Point is you guys are misinforming everyone. The battery is mediocre and that's it.
It won't last a full day if you use it constantly and I do need two charges / day many times.
Let me put it this way, you will only get roughly 3 hours of screen time on stock everything. If that is good for you then it's will have good battery life, if not then you will say it's got poor battery life.

you are perfectly right.
I come from an iPhone 4s, which I changed because the battery life wasn´t that great and I thought it was time to try something new.
Got the N4 last friday and played around with it during the weekend.
Monday, tuesday and wednesday this week... none of these days I´ve been able to come back home with the phone still on.
I wake up at 7.30am and I usually am back home at 6pm.
In my opinion, and honestly should be in everyone´s opinion, 10 hours of battery life are unacceptable, whatever the usage is (considering that 7.30 of those 10 hours I was at work)
I have till friday this week to return it, which is a pity because the phone is great
i get 5-6 hours sot..
rom is omnirom 5.1.1 hellscore kernel b73.
100mv undervoltage hellsactive governer.
think 7 would be possible if google services would not take a quarter of the battery.
the screen is not taking that much battery as one would think.
think most issues with battery life come from fake original battery replacements.
had 3-4 sot using "original" battery. but after replacing with real genuine from official lg spare parts shop 5-6...

hello guys,
i'm thinking to buy this tablet, now i got ipad 3...
what is your opinion about this tablet after a good use? is battery comparable to the ipad one?
there is any know great problem?
thx a lot
I did a comparison on this tab vs ipad 4 and it performs twice as good and less laggy. Also has lower frame drops across the bosrd which is a bonus. App store isnt quite as good, but definitly a supperioir tablet. I get ab8ut 2 hours exfra battery life over the ipad 4 with mynormal usage. Some people say they get less or equal - it all comes down to what you do on it. This was a very nice upgrade over the 4 and is better than my iphone 5s too.
They both have strengths and weaknesses.

I think the samsung is fine on battery life. It will last you the day easy on heavy use. Especially if you root and remove bloatware . I think if a tab lasts the day on heavy use there's not much to complain about as you can just charge over night

It does "OK" on battery life. Both my N3 and N10.1-14 get worse battery life than the N2 and N10.1-12 they replaced. It's to be expected as both have double the pixel count of their predecessors. The batteries on both are larger but don't compensate for the higher PPI displays and additional features. Speaking of which, I like the additional features so accept the battery life consequences. Depending on your definition of "bloatware" a de-bloated N10.1-14 with its functionality removed is pretty comparable feature-wise to an iPad. I agree though that you can make it through a day pretty easily on a charge.
My biggest ***** is that it takes forever to charge; especially when the S-800 N3 is one of the fastest charging devices on the planet. Using a standard micro-USB port for charging is great for compatibility but the 30-pin charger made a huge difference in charging time. The battery in the N10.1-14 is 15% larger than the N10.1-12 but takes 30% longer to charge. I bet the LTE (S-800) N10.1-14 does better because of Qualcomm's QuickCharge feature.
It does the a while but if it's done overnight it's ok, mine from about 10 percent takes 4 hours. In bloatware I mean useless things that take resources, samsung hub, apps, push service, chat on, my magazine. It doesn't reduce any features what so ever, it actually enhance s it, the battery lasts longer it's smoother and you can select any or all apps to be MW and pen window compatible

I'm not rooted yet, but love this tablet. I'm learning more about it daily. Only downside is that I don't believe we'll get many custom roms. Development is almost non existing.
Steve
I have P605 with S800 and et takes 4 hours to charge starting on 5 % battery left. But I agree that the battery life is at least 1 hour screen use less than the 2012 model. But this is now, lets see with future ROM optimizations even stock ones. I am sure battery life will improve. The same happent with 2012.

What you guys think about the battery life?

I know its hard to say but do you think these results are accurate?
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Google-Nexus-6P-battery-life-test-score-average-in-active-use_id74853
If so its kind of a let down. I was hoping with a bigger battery, marshmallow, and pure Android that it would perform better then the average.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I would hold off on judging battery life until you have the phone yourself.
There's a lot of things that go into play when seeing how long the phone will last. People use the phone differently, and you have to remember there will always be more optimizations in the future and developers compiling kernels that enhance battery life as well.
That's the beauty of a Nexus, development.
The guy that has one already that started a thread was getting pretty good results. Even 6 hours SOT at one point. And I believe, dont quite me. Phone arena just uses a program to test battery. Not day to day use. Doze would help out with this.
Yup.... And another for 5hrs 30 over 36 hours... Pretty remarkable
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
Those simulated tests where they loop video, or have an engine for loading websites are just trashola.
Never compares to real person usage
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I think most of reviews had battery life results between 4 to 6h SOT in real life usage (no simulated test)
Of course many things can change the result (WIFI vs LTE - screen brightness - games/camera vs soft usage, etc)
5 hours SOT average, is good enough for me !
