[Q] Spell Check - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

So I have been using several keyboards (swype, swift key, even the Android 4.2.2 keyboard). Somewhere along the line my spell check got turned off, and no matter what keyboard I use, I don't see the red line under misspelled words. Any ideas?
Cheers.

Each keyboard should have its own dictionaries that need to be enabled but you can check in the language and keyboard settings at the top above where you select your keyboard your language should say English, if not change it to English maybe?

There's no spell check on the s4 but here something that could help u if u ask the right people: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168321

Swype

I think this is the right sub forum to post in.
I just wanted to share a thought about swype.
I love how it works and it makes one hand texting so much easier
I just wish it would automatically hit "space" after each swype completed.
Wouldn't that be so much more convenient than having to press the spacebar each time?
I space more than I backspace to retype a word.
Just thought I'd make a comment about that.
Anyway to hack that and make it work that way? =P
....You don't have to hit space. Just swype the next word and it will automatically add the space.
Maybe not. He might not have the setting right.
On the main SETTINGS page select
Language & keyboard
Swype
Auto-spacing
There's other good stuff in there too. Like the ability to turn off the modestly annoying vibrate function.
And you can have my vote too. SWYPE TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!!!!
My only concern with the MT4G was lack of keyboard. I had the original Vantange but got a Raphael b/c I couldn't effectively use the poke me keypad. Since that day I've missed the thin-ness of the Vantage. MT4G and Swype have returned harmony to my world
Please post questions in Q&A section.

[Q] Moving Android Keyboard Cursor

Does anyone know how to move the cursor when using the keyboard, needing to add/delete a characters in the middle of a msg or text and repeated stabbing on my screen to get it in the right place is extremely frustrating anyone know a better way
I'm glad it's not just me, it must be hell on one of the lower end small screen devices. I have enough trouble on the X5!
btw langers, a little off topic but... have u tried 2degrees free facebook "zero" service??? when i try i get an error saying its not available from my carrier?? Just wondering whether its cos i'm not using my original stock rom
Facebook 0 works for me so you could be right
k thanks for that
Hey guys,
The reason you cant get onto FB 0 service is because you are using the APN internet.
This does not require a proxy and therefore o.facebook cant parse your mobile number to confirm you are indeed with 2degrees.
Try editing you APN and throwing 118.148.001.118 in the proxy and 8080 in the port.
If that doesn't work activate your WAP profile (it'll be called '2degrees') and see if that works.
If youre still having trouble give 2deg a call on 0800 022 022 and they'll sort you.
hope this helps
I'm using internet API and it works fine with no intervention/editing from me
YES!!!
cheers for that, worked a treat, didnt even realise those settings were even there, lol fairly new to the smartphone thing!!
i was using the internet apn as you said and once i switched it to 2deg all was good
Aren't we talking keyboard cursor?
I have been seeking for an app to have the little arrow text selector in our vanilla froyo, I mean that selector in gingerbread and HTC and Samsung machines.
Anyone know if there's such an app?

No it's not a complaint
Just too eager for a solution of the keyboard cursor mover
Well the good news is, after hours of searching finally found a solution of sorts...the bad news is, it ain't free $3.75. BUT there is a free trial version, with nag screen. I'm using it now and have only been nagged once.
The cursor can be moved via arrow keys which are enabled thru the extensive settings menu.
The arrow keys up, down, left, right sit at the bottom of the keyboard and make editing easy peasy. As u can imagine it does take up a fair bit of yr screen and the keys are slightly smaller but I think there is a calibration setting 4 that.
What I do like is upper case numbers and symbols, so no need to change screens.
Prediction works really, really well 2.
A heap of languages are also supported.
All in all not a bad little k/b, so head 2 the market an check it out. Smart Keyboard Trial.
Oh, btw swype also has arrow keys 4 cursor control if that spins ye wheels!

Smart Keyboard Pro has arrow keys and it can be configured to use the volume buttons to move the cursor.
e. lol a minute late
No luck for me as I have to stick with Chinese keyboards. I am looking for another app which adds a slider for text selection like how gingerbread implemented.
@pezzku - hehehe yeh, after I submittted the post i checked my email and saw your post and thort why didnt i check earlier!!! never saw the time u posted it tho...great minds...
@simplistian - oh thats a real bummer m8 maybe u could start a new thread and hopefully someone out there may be able to help out?
Test this keyboard https://market.android.com/details?id=com.moo.android.inputmethod.latin.free
It has several seperate language packs and you access the arrows by sliding the space button up.

[Q] CM mod 7.2 keyboard issue

So I seem to be having problems getting my nook color to use something besides the default keyboard. I go into settings and enable say my thumb keyboard or any although keyboard and it never comes ups. It always just defaults to the standard Droid keyboard.
What am I missing?

Not only do you need to enable them in settings, you must select them when you are ready to use them. When you want to type something, long press on the input box and a pop-up will come up with a choice 'input method'. Choose that and you will be given a list of choices you enabled in settings. Choose the one you want to use. It stays selected til you change it again in the future.

[Q] WTF Nexus why won't you type LOL?

The default google swipey keyboard (whatever its called) always corrects this to loll. its driving me but**** insane. can someone please please PLEASE tell me how to get the stupid keyboard to start recognizing lol?
pet peeve #2? How the hell do you type email addresses? I swipe my name, @, the email name..then when i try to put '.com' it puts a damn space before the "."
super annoying. i have to back up and manually type the letters one at a time every single time.
is there like a tips and tricks somewhere? I have bad habits carried over from swype i guess..i also miss having a gesture (loop) to capitalize a word.
Go to your personal dictionary and add lol. That should fix that for you.

thanks..i've tried doing that right from the keyboard and failed..i guess i need to go find that setting under preferences...?
also if i paste the wrong text into messenger..i have to sit and hold the delete key while it slowly erases it 1 character at a time before i can type something new.
any way to clear the entire message area with one gesture or click so i can type something else?
this is very annoying when i kept trying to copy sometihng from a webpage and the wrong text kept being pasted into the message
The first 1 can be found under Settings /language & input/personal dictionary
The only way I know how to delete the whole message box is too long press the message box highlight everything in the box and cut it. It's just as easy to use the delete key though.

I would take this as an opportunity to stop saying LOL.

just type capital L, capital O, capital L. Click the blue LOL, click it again. Press OK. Done.
I've already done it to mine. And I probably should have done as mentioned and taken it as an opportunity to stop typing it.

I agree with this. Especially considering 90% of the time when someone types "LOL," they're not really laughing out loud.
I'd also suggest you use SwiftKey.

[Q] Where have the symbols gone on my keyboard?!

Well, this is weird! I have NOT switched the keyboard and am using the default Samsung one.
First few days using the Note 3, I had this AWESOME keyboard which had a tiny symbol as a secondary function of any button. I could easily pick all sorts of punctuation and symbols. Now, it's GONE! I can only see the usual letters & numbers and, for symbols, I must go click the symbol button.
How can I fix this? I want the keyboard with symbols as the alternate for letters in all places where I use the keyboard. I even had the feeling that it learned what symbols I use more often and had replaced less used symbols.
Clues?
Thank you!

Well try the keyboard settings in language and input first. .. maybe something switched...
Nothing seems to have changed and I can't even find any setting related to symbols. I even tried to reset settings. No luck .
If phone is rooted can use xposed module samsung alt symbols. Or try to delete either feature.xml ir others.xml in system/csc if both files are in the folder. If only 1 do not delete anything. Backup both before delete.

I believe your phone may have installed some major update (with or without asking you). At this point to re-enable that you will probably need to root first and then edit a (text) file - search around for a thread describing just that.
I had this happen to me when I installed wanam exposed. Under system you have an option that says "enable keyboard symbol" this option has to be checked.

And if you're not rooted, there's always SwiftKey. Free now, too.

Thanks lildoggs, I did what you said and it worked. My symbols are back! Hooooooraaaay! . Thanks to Rosli59564 too for the file tips. Luckily Xposed fixed it.
I am SURE that I did not uncheck that. Most probably it somehow reset my settings when I first started Wanam Xposed (which I did start some days ago).
Well, all is good now. Thanks for replying, all of yous .
