Nfc & wireless charging - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Does anyone know if NFC and Wireless charging work together? Like if I were to put the qi system in and use one of these little NFC tags, will they work together?

That's a great question. If there is anyone with a QI charger and an NFC Tag that can test this and give us a definitive result, that would be fantastic!
I just read up a bit on the Nokia wireless charger (model DT-910) and it actually has a feature that launches an app via NFC, when you place it on the wireless charging stand. I'm not sure if they just basically built an NFC Tag into the charger but if so, that would prove that wireless charging and NFC are able to work together.

Unrelated, but I couldn't get my S4 to NFC with my Nexus . . . yes both had the NFC batteries in!

I asked the seller of this kit on eBay - he says they're unlikely to work together. Still, that's inconclusive either way until someone actually tests it and reports back.

I have samsung charger and samsung back and I can confirm that the NFC sticker on the pad is NOT working

Hmm - I'm using the Nokia charger (DT-900) with the Samsung back, and it charges fine. The phone's NFC is working (I can use NFC tags). The charger doesn't have a NFC sticker on it, so can't confirm whether wireless charging *and* NFC work at the same time

Oh yeah nfc still works with the Samsung back... just won't read the sticker on the charger

(Apologies for the bump, but I came across this thread, and had to issue a correction.)

The charger doesn't *have* an NFC sticker.
And NFC Task Launcher has been renamed to Trigger. One of the reasons, I'd bet, is because it can now be triggered by things other than NFC. For example, one of the triggers it has now is "charging" and you can specifically set an action to be triggered when wireless charging. So, really, the wireless charger doesn't NEED an NFC sticker!

I've got a Qi charger and have tried 2 different wireless charging receivers with my S4. When the first receiver was installed the phone would very rarely read an NFC tag. I then purchased another receiver which claimed to be NFC compatible. That one seems to cause very few problems reading tags.
The problem now is when the NFC tag is stuck to the Qi charger pad: under those circumstances the phone usually won't read the NFC tag unless I move it around a bit, and even then it doesn't always work.
This was the 2nd (NFC compatible) receiver that I bought:

The original receiver was a gift, so I don't have a link for it. It has a white design, with no brand name on the label.

Try this one, I bought it and it works great. The second set of contacts are for NFC. Switched from one that was NFC compatible but you had to fight with it. This one is a major improvement.

I have galaxy s6 and Samsung original car mount
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EP-HN910IBUSTA
Nfc tag placed on this charger can't be read from s6.
If i place tag out of wireless charger, tag is good readed.

I have tried the same using S8 and it doesn't work simultaneously, QI charger and NFC, I put an NFC stick on the QI charger pad and it simply can't read the NFC, when I disconnect the USB cable from the charging station it reads the NFC.

Do tell if I need to attach/add any external accessories to make it work
You will need a qi receiver attached to the phone's battery connections.

Then I think this should also work!

Either should work in theory but it is not guaranteed.
I purchased two receivers and neither of them would work with three different charging pads. I have a nexus 5 which has built in wireless charging and it works with every charging pad I tried.

So I should go for trial and error method, right?
I am just saying that it can be hit and miss.
I tried two receivers I got from eBay and they look just like the Amazon receivers I linked. Both receivers would not work in my note 3 or my friend's note 3. Seller gave me a refund.
I bought a receiver for my s4 and iPhone 6 and they both work okay. The charging pad I use has a red LED to indicate that it has power. The LED turns blue when it makes a connection with the receiver. I just have to make sure I position the phone properly because the LED will turn blue but the phone is not charging until I adjust the position of the phone.

Qi Receiver - Not Working Replacement Note 3

I just got a replacement Note 3 from Asurion and for some reason the Qi receiver doesn't work. It does on the one I am about to send back.
Anybody got any thoughts on settings or whatever? Verizon model.
I wouldn't care so much but I use my phone on my motorcycle for navigation. I have a mount that has Qi charger on it and it is much easier on usb port and less of a PITA to use wireless charging. Plus I have several Qi chargers scattered at work, home, car, girlfriends place.
I have tried reseating and swapping batteries and different chargers.
Thanks!
I tried three different qi receivers on my note 3 Sm-n900w8 and none of them worked. I tried the receivers on a coworker's one 3 Sm-n900w8 and one of the three receivers will work consistently. Not sure why this is the case since both phones are running the same stick firmware. Neither phone has been rooted or altered in any way.

[Q] Is there a mod for Wireless Qi Charging?

Anyone know of a mod for a Galaxy Grand Prime that would enable me to use Qi Wireless Charging?
I Dont want to use the ones that stick into the USB port and have a pad on the back.
I Want the kind where the pads entirely in the phone so I can still use the USB port for data transfer.
no

Actually it's possible to charge wirelessly in almost all devices.. Even devices like Nokia. What you need is a Qi Module or something. Idk where to find these. You can put these modules in your Micro-USB cable and get a really think case. Put the module in the case and put it back in. And put your phone into a wireless charger and your phone will start charging.
i used to have a case to do this along time ago, havnt seen them in a while though

No wireless charging?

Since it has a titanium body, it looks like Wireless charging will be missed
Or will it?
It look like it has a charging pad, BUT it looks like it will a magnetic connector will allow Qi-ish like charging where you lay it down without having to connect a usb cable, but the back docking pins will charge the phone. When charged you just pick it up and go without having to disconnect anything, WHICH I FREAKING LOVE ABOUT MY QI wireless charging right now with my Nexus 6.
The back is ceramic, not titanium. So it could work, and does work, but you need to connect with their pins for the phone to recognize the pad. It's wireless but I think without the pins it doesn't work. We will have to wait and see..

Since there's no headphone jack, it would be nice if there were a way to charge the phone and have a 3.5 mm jack plugged in to the USB jack at the same time. Especially in the car.

Just buy a cheap $15 Bluetooth aux. No more wires in my car, besides the charger if I need it.
You know, The phone supports Wireless USB. How exactly do you suppose they accomplish that? Its already been stated by Andy that the two connection points are magnetic for aligning accessories. Now, I don't think anyone knows for SURE how this phone's tech actually works yet. Since Andy went on record to say this tech will be open source, who is to say this wireless communication couldn't support Qi charging with a software update. It's entirely possible that this phone supports that out of the box. Really I am not confident that this could be answered with a " yes it does" or "no it does not" quite yet. Unless I am uninformed? can anyone else chime in?
EDIT** pins do provide power infact too.
When the phone website first launched there was an accessory for a wireless charging dock that said coming soon..... It's not there anymore. I thought it was supposed to transmit power thru the connector pins. But maybe the pins only transfer power from phone to accessory not accessory to phone.

It is still there, when scrolling down the webpage. The image is of the phone lowering to rest in plate charger, to get juice via the two pins on back of phone.

Your right.... It is still there....I overlooked it. Well I'm not really sure why every review says there's no wireless charging. Assuming this dock actually comes out.... It is charging without a cord/wire... Which is essentially wireless charging. It's just not qi wireless charging technology.... It could basically be described as proprietary wireless charging.

I was reading an interview and Andy indicated one of the next adapters for the phone after the camera is car audio integration.
I wonder what that is?
My BMW uses USB storage so I don't even bother with the phone.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the adapters. If they do that, I hope it includes a 3.5mm jack. For a lot of people that's still the only way they have to tap into their car audio system.
I am pretty sure the 2 pins are just for power, and any wireless bit is through the 60hz system which is more than likely data only.
So no Wireless charging parse', but with the dock, it has fancy pin charging lol.
I do also look forward to seeing what else they use that expansion ability for. Heck If they wanted to add a headphone port to the phone how easy would it be to just build a slim plate that attached to it that barely is thicker than the port itself, but is a bit wider to include a nice DAC and AMP? Doesn't take up the USB port for charging and could have really good audio to boot. The possibilities are endless and unlike some of the other modular designs, this one seems to make good sense and not be an eyesore when not in use.
Wireless data transfer and wireless charging are not even remotely the same thing. Data transfer is radio waves with a transmitter and receiver. Qi charging is electromagnetic induction (a magnetic field around a coil of wire will induce a voltage in the wire).

Magnetic charging

I'd like to buy a magnetic charger from an online shop but I want to know if our device supports magnetic charging or how to enable it?

No, this device has no wireless charging capabilities.
works
a wireless charger does not work but a magnetic charger works.
