Bought Asphalt 8 - Heavy Lag on GS4-i9500 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just bought Asphalt 8, honestly expected it to run flawlessly on my Black GS4-i9500 but that was not the case. Installation was fine, but game is really laggy and the graphic is kind of messed up and unstable. It's like the graphic card is not powerful enough to run it at full speed. I'm playing on default settings and I made sure there is no application running besides Airborne. My phone is a genuine one and have not rooted it. It's the same for Minion Rush and Asphalt 7.
What might be causing this problem according to you guys and is there any way to fix this?
Many thanks.

1- Chainfire3D make the games work perfectly
2- Yes , owners confirmed it
3- Yes samsung confirmed it , but did not tell us when
4- don't know about it , mine did not arrive yet.
5- No Led notification
Just adding my two cents - for Led notifications can use an app called NoLED
I'm curious as to how the scaling for the different apps is

Note Chainfire is only required for 'tegra optimized/required' games.
You can use it to tweak other games if they are acting odd (like dungeon defenders).
Also samsung hasn't officially confirmed ice cream sandwich. They said Q2 next year then retracted it. (probably to not take away from nexus prime sales)
- Frank
Sound is plenty loud enough for me
No indicator but the app "Noled" is available in the Android market and is a good substitute imho

[Q] Note 3 lemon?

When comparing my new Note 3 - factory reset and stock - to my Note 2 - factory reset and stock, the Note 3 is CONSIDERABLY slower.
Both on the same WIFI connection, in both Chrome and Stock Browser, the Note 3 will take anywhere from 10-12 seconds to open xda-developers.com whereas the Note 2 will be open in 2-3 seconds. I'm doing this side by side. With video, the Note 3 stutters no matter which application I use: YouTube, Chrome's built in player for MP4's, or the stock video player. The videos are unwatchable. The same videos on the Note 2 open without an issue and play perfectly.
Am I missing something here? Some people had said they went into developer options and Forced GPU rendering, turned off S-Voice's double tap on the home button option and made sure the Smart Screen options for playing video were off.
Do any of you have this issue? Is this just a lemon? I got mine on the glitch so I kept my unlimited data, I still have about 5 days to return it. (I went on an impromptu vacation, so I wasn't able to play with this until yesterday.
Can't say I agree with you. I have a note 2 that I still use on at&t and my note 3 blows it away. Could be just yours I'm not sure. However both of my devices are rooted and I haven't had my note 2 stock in sometime.

If yours is blowing the Note 2 away, I guess mine certainly has something wrong with it. I can barely find any Google search results for "Note 3 slow" "Note 3 Lag" or similar. I don't think I've been so frustrated in a while. You know that feeling of new tech in your hands? Was just a letdown when I opened it and noticed how slow it was.
Hmm can't say the same over here unfortunately. I'm very pleased with it. Have you rooted? You seem like you aren't the type to root or you are just comparing stock to stock?

Haven't rooted, but doubt that will do much to improve speed. Will I root? Yea, I just need a phone that does what it's supposed to first. I'm comparing stock to stock because my Note 2 was going to be sold on ebay (I usually return anything I sell back to a stock phone) and the Note 3 because it's a simple out-of-the-box comparison.
Basically, I opened the box, started playing around and realized the difference in speed, so it halted my plans.
Run an antutu benchmark, what are your results? If it's a problem with the hardware that should be reflected in the score. For reference I think my phone runs smoothly, I scored a 35904 on antunu.

Scored a 36323 - but still have problems playing any video or browsing the net. Even opening the app drawer to run Antutu lags for me incredibly.
Could it be touchwiz?

Installed Nova and restarted - snappier - but videos are still choppy. Every 2-3 seconds of an .mp4 it stutters. Thanks for the advice though!

I know benchmarks don't mean shnikey.. but seriously I have yet to break 36k (35269 was my last test), had mine since last Saturday and don't have the slightest hint of lag or stutter anywhere whether it be in app, app drawer etc.. would definitely look at the apps running and start disabling stuff this thread is helpful if you haven't done so http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478589

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 lags in 2D games (Possibly others as well)

As of 2 weeks ago, I received the Galaxy S4 (I9505) and I was rather happy having a faster mobile now. That is, until I added back the games I was playing on my Galaxy S3. For example, the game Family Farm Seaside (2D game I believe) was working perfectly and smoothly on my Galaxy S3.
But when I added it on my S4, the smoothness just vanished and it's quite shucky / laggy. Especially when I move around the screen. The stutter really starts when multiple things happen within the game (harvesting multiple crops at the same time) where the framerate just drops dramatically.
I've googled for a couple of hours, and the only "solutions" I can find is force the GPU on 2D games, force 4x, etc. I've tried all combinations, but it makes things worse rather than improving things.
Now.. My Galaxy S3 is using Cyanogenmod (current latest nightfly version) and has no problems with the game. Before you might ask.. While my S4 is also using Cyanogenmod (also latest nightfly), the game had issues on the S4 Stock ROM as well. Combined with the fact that I've tried multiple S4 Roms before I went to Cyanogenmod completely.
Is this an issue within the game or is this merely hardware related? (or software) of the S4? I'd figured the S4 would be faster, not slower.
its because the s4 doesnt get the right optimization, the S4 is better in term of everything but support, its related to the cpu, gpu....the S2, S3, NOTE 2 are better for gaming because they had good support....
So you are saying I can't do anything to solve the current issue at hand?

Hi
What about cange the PERFORMANCE PROFILE into Performance mode,(in Settings-Performance)and change the CPU governor into the Performance mode?Hope this could help
I'm afraid that isn't helping either.. If I do large amount of things inside the game (Family Farm Seaside) the frame rate drops a lot. Should mention that I don't have any problems within 3D games.. as far as I know anyway.

Hope? Latest Galaxy Grand Prime, 1GB & 4.4.4 ?

Hi Guys,
I just wanted to shine a little light for all of us and the people who develop and mod here. Here is the latest addition to the Galaxy Grand line: The Grand Prime. This latest device seems to have less tech specs than the Grand 2, and similiar to our device, it has 1GB of RAM and runs Kit Kat 4.4.4. I am hoping to, and invite some of you, to scavenge for a ROM dump to see if we can port the ROM or see what goodies we can take from it.

cheers for the heads up,:good: (bodmar)
SD 400 kinds of reduces chance of porting stuff from it.
I too hope we can get a Custom ROM going for this. Things like Auto Brightness is missing eventhough the light sensor window is present at the front, but there's no sensor behind the window. I shined a light to it, and didn't find anything reflecting back. UPSM is there but PSM is missing, I like PSM to extend the battery while still have fully functional smartphone.
The forum for Grand Prime isn't even created..., (yet?)
Oh, and the CPU is Snapdragon 410, 64-bit capable.
What i can't accept is the fact that this phone is cheaper than our grand ._. but has good specs
Has any progress been made on developing a custom rom for this device?
Yesss
Its nice

The most dissapointing things that I don't like on SGGP is its pretty weak CPU, the Snapdragon 410 Chipset doesn't designed to run heavy games such as Modern Combat 5, so the game stuttering horribly. Some gameloft great titles such as MC4 doesn't giving shadow effect on the game, and the most suprising is that Oppo Joy can run GTA Vice City on High setting with resolution 100% with very rare lag while SGGP run GTA VC on Medium settings with resolution 55% run sometimes when so many peds and vehicles.
What Aetomatic says is true, you should stay away if you want this phone for heavy gaming, but I still be grateful that this phone still can handle Asphalt 8 and some medium games very well.

[Q] Choosing a Galaxy S4 variant.

Hello XDA! I want to change my 4 months old Galaxy S3 LTE(LOL ) to Galaxy S4. I want to choose one of those variants: i9505 LTE or i9506 LTE-A. Should I pay more for LTE-A? Or it's not worth it? I want to play some games that wasn't working smooth on my S3 but I want to have possibilites to change my ROM(CM12, TW Lollipop etc.). And please share your experience with both devices too
Cheers!

The GT-I9506 is better in terms of specs. It's comparable to the S5.
The problem is that I don't know how many custom roms there are for that device.
I own an GT-I9505. In terms of roms there are plenty to choose from.
Performance-wise the GT-I9505 does not compare to the GT-I9506.
I don't think the GT-I9505 will have problems with the game your S3 had problems with.
GTA San Andreas runs smooth on this device, so does Asphalt 8. The newest Brother in Arms also run pretty smooth. Haven't tried any other high-end games. But the S4 shouldn't have any major problems.

Thank you mate but I've decided to choose Lenovo K3 Note it's better in performance(Antutu score is really close to Meizu MX4) and it has bigger screen what is the most important for me now
