Upgrade Eligibility - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

My cousin has a pretty beat up S2 i777. He is ready for n upgrade. His upgrade is June 1st. Is there a way AT&T can push his upgrade up for a slight cost? I'm on Sprint and they'll let me push my upgrade up for a fee. Just curious.
EDIT: Whoops, meant to post this in Q&A. Mods move please.

probably move it up and let him buy it on the phone. Call in nice and let them know his phone is not working so well. They'll help usually.

Mine wasn't until June. 10th but they let me move up because I was a long valued customer

I've tried this is three different corporate stores, and they've all told me the same thing. You can upgrade early if you're in the same calendar month as your stated date. So, since his is the 1st of the month, he's screwed. Otherwise, you can pay a $250 early upgrade fee. Ridiculous, I know, but that's the way it is.

isnt it a $250 early termination fee MINUS $10 for every month he was on contract...so really it would be closer to $50 plus the upgrade pruce and $36 upgrade fee and than taxes...
But people seem to have had luck getting there s4 months before there contract is up

Moved for you Stew

My upgrade was in September but they let me upgrade.
I have three lines and one was eligible in June. So I asked and a manager OK'ed it. But the guy doing the upgrade upgrade my September line. Lol so I have another upgrade next month.
AND since I had an S3 they didnt charge me the $36 upgrade because I told them I have the sim and they don't have to worry about it.

That's not what they told me in store. BUT, there's always the possibility that they had no idea what they were talking about, so you may be right.
It's infuriating that people are actually having success with this, when they refuse to let me upgrade only 5 days early...

Any store will let you upgrade as long as it's in within the same calendar month. Depends on the store you go to if you want to upgrade earlier than that. I went to 4 stores, and only one let me upgrade early because "the manager was feeling good". And according to the AT&T phone support, each store has an allowed quota that they can let upgrade early each month. You might just be out of that quota, or have a crappy AT&T store or both.
Anything is possible. I upgraded in April when my upgrade was in September. So obviously it's possible. Your other option is to call AT&T and they will surely let you upgrade as long as your account is in good standing, but then you'd have to wait for shipping. I would personally do that, as currently all the stores in my area are completely out of stock.

I'll give my cousin this info and see what happens. lol
Thanks all.

Well I called over the phone to upgrade and I was due in may 1, 2014 they let me upgrade to a s4 .the bad is that u pay extra 50$ and the phone is ion back order.so give it a try and good luck.

[Q] Upgrade/April 1st

Im sorry to start another thread on this subject but i've never seen the message that tells you when you are available for an upgrade and was curious to know if this is the message you get for a yearly upgrade(pic posted)
I bought my Evo Outright last year...But January 8th 2010 i used an upgrade to the HTC Hero..Im going to lose it April 1st arent I?
I wouldn't think so if you are already eligible BUT why not just call Sprint instead of posting here? Seriously.

because i have called Sprint and I told them about this message(picture posted) and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about and said I will lose my upgrade April 1st..I also went to my local sprint store and the manager there said I would be eligable for my upgrade when the Evo3D comes out this summer..So that is why I am here because i've gotten 2 different answers from Sprint Reps.
I would edit that photo to get rid of your phone number. There are alot of pranksters here on XDA.
Yea sprint is doing away with the yearly upgrades unless you are a premium member or whatever it's call. Basically if your not spending a certain amount you lost it
Well that sucks...Will they let me use my fiances upgrade thats due in about 60 days(her actual 2 year upgrade, hasnt gotten a new phone in 2 years) for my number?...And I will just go ahead and use my current upgrade to get her a new phone.Does Sprint let you do that?

It's always been like that, the price just went up on qualifications. They're not "doing away" with anything.
My line qualified for an upgrade on 10/10, and I just asked tonight, and they said since I have already earned it, it will remain until I choose to use it. Sounds ideal to me, those that earned the privilege during the terms of the offer should be entitled to keep it, and for everyone else the terms just got stretched out longer.
If you already have the upgrade sitting there it will stay

Man,right when I was coming to terms with the fact I was going to lose my upgrade you throw another sway in the other direction...Arrrrg,i dont know whats going to happen.
Look like you WILL lose your upgrade.
I just found this page on Sprint's website.
http://premier.sprint.com/premierupdate/faq.html
Here's the part that confirms you will lose your upgrade.
If the line qualifying for an annual upgrade is 12-21 months from the last upgrade, the upgrade must be used by March, 31, 2011. Otherwise, effective April 1, 2011, the upgrade eligibility on that line will be changed to 22 months.

This is a bit misleading. Yes, you get the $75 upgrade after 12 months, but this is simply $75 off the full retail price of the phone. When you get the "$150" upgrade, you actually get the same pricing that a new customer does, including rebates. So, this ends up being more like a $300 discount.

Early upgrade for only 75$

I just talked to a sprint rep about trying to push my upgrade because of the changeover of the premier status from 1yr to 2yrs. I got denied, but I did find out about this buy back (or buy up, I can't remember for sure) program.
If you are within 10 months of your two year upgrade you can pay 75$ and they will reset your eligibility. So granted I can't get a phone now as i'm still 12 months out from 2 yrs, in Oct I can call back and tell them I would like to do this and they charge 75$ to your account and reset your eligibility so you get a full upgrade. It's better than nothing. I hope this helps some people that are looking for a new phone.
I called this number I think it's been posted in other threads to go right to a rep.
877-775-4886
From the sounds of it you should be able to call just normal customer care as well though.
Easy math for the upgrade:
The math is you have to be 10 months from your actual two year upgrade. So if you hit one year aug 1st you can't use this until oct 1.
or
after 14 months this will work.
so how does the math work.. if you were to get a say the nexus s? would it be that much cheaper?

if u get it at best buy today
it would cost 75 bucks
Hold up so on Aug 1st I hit a yr so am eligible for the partial upgrade.. meaning I can call and have them reset the upgrade for 75 and get the 2yr price ..

Ya shoulda kept pushing to get your 1 year upgrade back so you could get a free (45$ activation) nexus s at best buy today. That's how I got my gf a free epic during their gaga for phones promotion. You can still try just keep saying the contract I signed included yearly upgrades and I want to use it at best buy cause at first they want youto buy it from them at normal price 199.99.

What is the point of buying up? A full 2 year upgrade discount is only $150. So you would still technically pay the same amount for a phone(that isnt free). I was told I could buy up for $45. subtract that from the full discount and my current $75 discount and they are only saving me an extra $30 bucks on a $500+ phone. it would be cheaper to pay an etf then sign a new contract or wait two months after a full upgrade and sign a new contract. This is just my understanding.

It's good to get the reset to take advantage of deal prices for upgrading to a new phone. For instance if you had an upgrade best buy was giving away nexus s for free today. think about it when the epic came out with an upgrade it was only 150 or something without it was like 5 hundo +, so I'd pay the 75 to save that much.

i just called the sprint store & my friend that owns the store... said its an extra $75 on top of what the phone costs... so unless the brand newest nexus 4g is free which its not... so its price will be the new contract price + $75 for the early upgrade
if you really really want a discount... did you guys know that the 2yr 1yr contract renewal price for phones is the same... & also the same if you were a random person who never had sprint... sprints "discounts" are a scam... everyone in the world gets the same discount no matter how long youve been or not been with sprint, so that being said call sprint & ***** to em about how youve been a loyal customer for however long & why does some random person get the same discount as me & your going to drop sprint when your contract ends & goto verizion or att or whatever... this is what i do every time i want a new phone & they will gladly give you at least an extra $75 credit toward a new phone or on your bill

I believe if your yearly upgrade is before october you get your yearly upgrade. Everyone else gets bumped on to the 20 month cycle. My next $150 upgrade is november my last one was Feburary so I think I got the 20 months now. However I believe everyone gets one last $75 upgrade. I get mines in January so year we should get that

Here's how it was explained to me; Existing Gold members who have an upgrade date before Oct. 2 can update b/t now and then and receive a second yearly update that expires 12/31/12. Silver members are basically SOL unless you are very close to your 10 year anniversary in which exceptions are being made as that was the case for me. No one can go from Silver to Gold after 10/2.
With the timing of the cutoff it really seems like this is a way of not letting people upgrade iphones every year.esp with the doubled etf. We might have been better off with no iphone

That's the big downside with iphones. To upgrade software you must also get new hardware. I only had 3 years to go to get gold. I was even gonna switch to the 99.99 plan to have gold but oh well. All good things must come to an end.

Premier Gold customers eligible for the annual upgrade between now and the end of 2012 can use their qualifying annual upgrade until 12/31/12:
*Once they take advantage of their Premier annual upgrade, they will qualify for subsequent upgrades under the New for You Upgrade program.

Sprint offering early upgrades to some customers

Itching for a new Sprint handset, but your upgrade date is still a ways off? You might be in luck, as a newly-leaked Sprint document has shown that the carrier is offering some customers an early upgrade. According to the doc sent to SprintFeed, there's a silent promotion running now through December 31st that'll allow some Premier customers to upgrade early to any CDMA handset in the Now Network's lineup, including the iPhone. The deal is said to be only available at corporate-owned stores, and before earning the upgrade you'll need to have your account reviewed by a sales representative for specific promo codes.
Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, especially considering that Sprint Premier is going the way of the dinosaur and most of the benefits of program are ending once the year is up. If you'd like to see if you're eligible for an early upgrade, mosey on down to your local (corporate!) Sprint store and ask your friendly rep to look into the promo. Just don't forget to come back and let us know how it went when you're done, k?

Unless they want to get you into a new phone now, then you'll have to pay more for the new phone that comes out next year that you should have waited for, but can't pass up. Sprint knows how your mind works.

Not totally true. I went to the Sprint Store today. I have 3 lines on my plan. Two of them are due to upgrade in March. The 3rd line is due in October 2012. They offered me an upgrade on the Oct. phone because it is the primary line. Don't know if I will cash in, but the offer seems legit. I have been a customer for over 10 years. Maybe that is a reason.

Not true! I'm on a family plan with 4 other phones and I was able to upgrade my dad's phone today even though his upgrade isnt coming until next august. They gave us the early upgrade because we are premier members and he is the primary line. The sprint rep told me they just heard about the deal yesterday, and it does indeed go until the 31st.
I can confirm this is real. But the stores i called and went to are all asking for you to either upgrade your plan or buy accessories to do it.

Well got some crazy news!!!! i took advantage of the early upgrade and found a store that did not make me upgrade my plan or buy accessories. I think its a store by store discretion type deal with making customers buy accessories and upgrade plans. Also they bought 2 of my evo's for $100 each and all rebates were instant for the phones i got. Sooo i spent A little under $300 and got a 16g iphone 4s for my girl and got the epic touch for me. All and all a great deal and i'm very happy with my new phone
But i'm a little sad to be leaving the evo 4g section of XDA. Gonna take a break from rooting and enjoy stock for a min then be back flashing and learning the epic touch!! Good bye all my evo compadres

How'd you do it? My cousin just upgraded to the S4 and now I'm desiring one. However I don't have an upgrade until July 1st. I called Sprint customer service and they said it's impossible to have my account pushed for an early upgrade. Is she full of it or am I SOL until July?
Please do tell me your stories.

Currently Sprint is offering an early upgrade program called upgrade now you just call and ask to upgrade now. Depending on your current eligibility it may cost anywhere from 50-100 dollars.

Actually if you are due in July 1st. You should be able to upgrade your phone now at the store. Sprint actually makes you eligible 2 months before your upgrade (If your 2 year contract ends in July). You could go here and check. I bet you will be happy to see that you are eligible. Otherwise it is $50 dollars and they make you turn in your current phone, which is NOT a deal.

I received a early upgrade and my due date wasn't until 1 July 2013. Cost is 100 bucks + S4 and your all set.

This is exactly what I found out today. They quoted me $100 to push my upgrade from July 1st to now. I'd rather wait a month and get it to save $100. If Sprints Variant wasn't the most expensive of them all, it'd make my choice easier. Not to mention activation fees that's a total hit or miss on having it waived.
Depending on how long you've been with them...you could always go the spoiled brat way and say you'll cancel if they don't let you upgrade early. As long as you've been a good ontime paying customer, they will do it 9 times out of 10. That's what I did, and I wasn't eligible until November 2013. (I have had 4 devices with sprint for 6 years though).
Goto wirefly, they have the Sprint S4 for 219. You will save a few bucks to help with the 100 dollar charge.

Been with Sprint since 1999. Very disappointed when they took away my annual upgrades. But u feel like people play that "loyal customer" card far too often for it to work for me. I doubt calling retention will work because I have 4 lines and the rest are upwards towards 12+ months remaining on the contract so they'd make more money on an etf from me.
