Att off contract price? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Ok so long story short I upgraded ny line with HTC one....I really like the phone but miss my Samsung already....since I unlocked my ones bootloadet I cannot return it....so I was thinking of selling it and buying the gs4 off contract....I spoke with an Att sales rep the other night and he's telling me off contact price is over 700...is that really the cost? Anyone know? Thanks

Very baffled by the fact that when the S3 came out, AT&T wanted $549.99 no commitment pricing. Why the hell is the S4 $639.99???

Yes I agree...contract prices are the same...I was always under the impression even if ur not due for a contract upgrade u can still resign and save 250 off retail...so the phone would be 639-250= 389 + tax....but yes I'm wondering too why it's so much

Early termination fee is 325 minus 10 bucks for every month in contract. Makes you due for another upgrade. 325 + 200 for s4 + 36 upgrade fee will save you a good bit of money compared to buying it outright.

That is true didn't think of it that way...maybe I'll look into that...
Maybe I'll wait til the phone is released and play with it in store first (which is what I should've done with the HTC one) before making that choice again

Yeah I am but since I went ahead and unlocked my bootloader I can't reset it back to factory... If Att wanted to check they can see it's been tampered with...
That use I guess if they are smart enough to look for that kind of thing....I bought it over the phone...I guess I can return it the same way ans hope they don't check....

Not normally checked. Not like it's gonna say bootloader unlocked on the screen when they go to take the return. More than likely the person is just gonna check for damage and wipe it clean. Go ahead and reset it before you take it back up there.

Can't you just bring it back to the att store?

Are you talking about at Sprint or Best Buy? Also since they are doing away with the Premiere program you will be with that phone for 20 months. It seems like a good phone but just seen a glimpse of the Galaxy III for 2012 and may just wait. Anxious to see what the Devs will do with Gingerbread source code.
Are you going for it?

No I'm not getting it but was curious how they would handle the 75 upgrade as sprint no longer let's you get gold status as of 10-1 as of my talk with them earlier.. I had my eyes on the nexus prime or new quad core phones in 1st 1/4 next year. My 150 upgrade isn't till 8/1/12 btw

Personally Im probably going to wait a bit and see if there are any issues with the phone. I've made the mistake of buying from the first run before.

Pretty sure since yyour current contract was signed before the change, it'll stay 22 months. Your NEXT contract will entitle you to the 20month upgrade.

No since I was gold and they changed it to silver and now dropping premiere altogether so apparently this is a benefit not guaranteed by contract.

Same exact boat ride here - signed up for Sprint slightly more than a year ago when the Epic first released. The wife and I are starting to see our phones show signs of age and both want to upgrade to the new touch. But not for $500+ each!!

Our phones aren't too far away from seeing CM7 and the Nexus Prime may even be in Sprint's near future. I'm personally not too worried about needing to jump the failboat that the Epic is yet lol.

Traded Vibrant for Galaxy S2

Just traded my vibrant at Target for 90 bucks and they are having a sale on galaxy s2 for 99.99 so with tax I paid 15.99 for the phone. Its for new and upgrade. Thought I would share.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Sweet deal! I didnt know Target took trade ins on phones. Where was it at?
Sounds SWEET!
Now time to convince T-mobile for an early upgrade. Any ideas? I'm not a very good debater.
Great deal!
Ahh... I envy the US market so much. Here in Brazil a sgs2 costs at least 17 times more than what Target was selling. And nobody does decent tradeins here.
LUCKY GUY!
I went to my Target and bestbuy and they pretty much told me to **** off because a deal like that is impossible haha gotta love the american attitude.
What?! This is amazing. I'm sappy for you, and myself haha.

In order to "upgrade" you need to essentially extend your contract right?
Edit..
Never mind I just re-read the OP.

so I guess what it comes down is extend the contract now and get a Galaxy 2 (for almost free) or wait till it expires to resign and get a Galaxy 3? Probably will wait if that's the case.
Yeah that's usually the case.

Sell OG epic to sprint.??.

Sprint wants to buy my epic from me for a whole $42. What you guys think.?.
My screen is messed up (static lines all across the bottom half of screen) and they are back ordering me a refurb one.. Should get it in a few days.
Also, my upgrade is September 1st.. I'm debating between the sgs3 and the htc evo.. Hmm

You should just etf for 100 and upgrade today. 100-42=58, so 58+199=257, which is probably worth it. Only 50 more and you upgrade today. Cancel the backorder.
That's just my opinion though. Not sure if you have to pay the deductible on the backordered epic. If so, definitely etf.

He doesn't have to etf. He can pay $50 for early upgrade with how close he is, like I did. So $50 - $42 + $ of device he upgrades to. All in all he pays $8 extra to upgrade now.

Unfortunately since mobile odin is not available on our device yet, you need a computer.
And just to warn you about walmart, I have never bought from them, but Sprint may not support you if you buy from them rather than sprint. They may not fix your device if something happens to it, depending on how nice the associate is and what store you go to. Also, if you change your contract after 30 days and before 180 days (6 months), walmart will charge you 375 I think.

I think fully-working ones are $54, at least according to the associates at my store and the website.
Not sure about bestbuy.
Just make sure before you buy from a 3rd party retailer, read the terms and conditions to decide if the initial price difference is worth it, and read reviews from people to see if they got screwed or not.
10-4 on that xbox.. Thanks for all the input.. I will definitely search around for others experience..

You have to pay to reset your upgrade, but it's based on how far into your contract you are. At how close he is he would only pay $50 like I did. And the offer for a fully working Epic is $42. I just did all of this this month when I got my Nexus.

Ok so had the HTC one...nice phone but some things bothered me....I returned It am I'm planning on getting the 4...I'm a little concerned on how much I'm hearing the 4 is laggy...I loved my 3 so I hope it won't disappoint...anyways in case it does, does best buy charge a return fee like att does?...Im still really not sure what to go with in the end so I'd like to play around with the 4 a while...plus I know it's probably not worth it but depending on price best buys mobile insurance seems a bit nicer then the att one....

ok do this just return it completely and reverse the upgrade you can do that if your under 14 days. they cant reverse the contract most likely so now att customer service will have to do that. after everything is back how it was go to an att store and use your upgrade and get 32gb. will work 1000%

With this method you will pay an additional upgrade fee. After 3 days, reversing the contract still incurs the upgrade fee. Then resigning the contract will produce another upgrade feel. Also, I doubt we'll be seeing much of the 32s at best buy

customer service will credit you the first upgrade fee I've done this at least six times I even got to waive a couple of the other upgrade fee.
I work for at&t wireless cor. store.lol
i originally bought the 16GB from Best Buy on may 3rd and then returned it on the 10th in hopes that they had the 32gb out...they told me that i was at least a month away until they got them in stores...and this was on may 10...so i returned the 16GB and they reversed the upgrade and activation fee and then i went across the street to my local AT&T store and bought it from them... the reversal of the upgrade from best buy was right away so i was able to use the same upgrade and just pay the 50 bucks more for the 32GB.... AT&T was also running a $100 off for trading in a old smartphone so i turned in an old OLD phone and ended up paying less than i originally paid for the 16GB at best buy
