Disable power button from waking the device? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this question has been asked before by someone else but there was no working solution.
I use the Touch Control app to wake my phone, and would prefer to use a gesture on the screen instead of the power button to wake the device. Does anybody know of an app, mod or editable system file I could use to stop the power button waking the device? I know that on a couple of other phones you can edit system/usr/keylayout to stop the home button from waking the device. (I would still like to be able to use the power button to turn the screen off, take screenshots etc.)

Help, how to turn off the screen?

Hi, guys, I am using my XDA Neo as a mp3 player all the time. Here I have one question, to save the battery, I would like to turn off the screen, but keep the phone and other program (like media player) still running, what should I do? Is there any 3rd party software can do this?
If I press the power button, the XDA will go to sleep, but the phone is still on. If I press and hold the power button for like 5 seconds, it will ask if I want to turn of the device completely, and I tried it, the XDA was completely off including the phone function. So, what button can turn off the screen display but not anything else?
Thanks in advance for any input.
In media player under Options/buttons you can assign any a key to turn off the screen, without the music is stopping..

There is a program called MortSaver that not only turns off the light, but actually turns off the screen. It locks all of the buttons and it takes a 2 button combination to unlock the buttons. However you can press any button and activate the screen just to see a special display with the time, battery and phone status...very cool. I use it strictly for playing mp3s (ogg in my case) when the phone is in my pocket or backpack.
Thanks, Motosaver seems to be a nice program. I just downloaded and I am using it now. Thanks.
I think VJEschaton will also turn off the screen.

Lock screen widget

Finally found a widget to turn off my Nexus screen with no delay. Touch the widget and INSTANT screen lock. This combined with widget locker means I hardly ever have to use the power button on my N1 (after a call I still have to unlock with power button though). Just wish I'd found this before I paid for two other screen off widgets that had delays before the lock

Whats its name?
I believe it's called 'lock screen widget'. Thanks to the op for suggesting this. I also just purchased 'power off'. My power button is fine but with all the stories of the power button failing I do worry about it, so using these two widgets will reduce the use of it hopefully avoiding any problems...
Edit: power off from the market sux. Refunded, uninstalled...

As the poster above noted, its called "lock screen widget". I had the power button on my original Nexus die after 3 days so I've been looking for a way to avoid using it as much as possible....this helps immensely. With "widget locker" I can unlock the phone with the trackball or volume keys so my power button hardly ever gets touched.

Why not warranty the phone? I had to do that twice for the power button.

I did warranty it. I'm using these pre-emptively to hopefully keep my power button functioning as long ad possible.

Sorry to change topic but does anyone know an app that allows trackball wake up flawlessly. All the apps i tryed will work 60% Of the time sometimes not at all.

Trackball wake in the majority of roms does the job for me

I use No Lock to bypass using the power button. No Lock simply disables the device locking so you can wake the device with the volume buttons or the trackball, at all times. The only time I use the power button now is to power on/off the device. No Lock is free too.

No Lock is great for turning the screen ON...but I wanted something to turn it OFF without hitting the power button or waiting for the screen to just "timeout". The two other widgets I found both came with 5-7 sec delays before the capacitive buttons or trackball didn't cancel the action (Lock Enabler looks to have a few seconds delay as well). This widget is just like hitting the power button as it INSTANTLY shuts the screen off. This is exactly what I'd been looking for.
hi guys dont by it now because it not working at the time. it says beta expired when you try to open it, and sends you back to market

Are you talking about the lock screen widget?
It has been working for me for almost a year (and saves a lot of power button presses )
Yup been using Invisible Lock Widget for a few months.
Rather than a widget which takes multiple presses to get to, I just long press search.
That and using widgetlocker to wake means I'm not using my power button at all.

You could try Lockscreen also: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.blogspot.androidinspain.LockScreen

power button wake up problem

is anyone having issues with waking up this phone? Randomly to get the screen back on I will have to press the power button about four times for the screen to come back on. its really starting to bug
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
press harder. I learned quickly that it takes a firm push and you have to hit the button w/o your fingers getting caught up on the sides of the phone.
it's either that or you got a bad button
I have the same issue, this along with the lag I get at times when I attempt to use the camera has me seriously considering returning this phone. The Inspired I returned had non of these issues just a tinny speaker.

Mine wouldnt go to sleep today when pushing the button. Seems to be a few bugs with this phone eh?
I'm starting to look at re-mapping the keyword to allow the volume keys to wake it up, and then use the fingerprint reader to unlock it. That power button seems to fragile to me. To turn the screen off I just use Extended Controls.
Any thoughts?
Widget locker has an option to use the vol buttons for wake
I kinda have the same problem but its when i press the lock button the screen shuts off but then comes right back on. I press it again, it shuts off, then comes right back on.
I had the same problem - power button wouldn't wake phone from sleep.
I had to do a battery pull to resolve the issue.
I'm using the lastest FW.
Motorola phones (Not just Atrix, but Droid X also) have some funky business that sometimes prevents/delays the screen from turning on, even if the button press is registered. This happens with the power button and also the volume buttons if they're used to wake the device (Like with WidgetLocker). I haven't been able to narrow it down, but I suspect it's related to (ab)use of PowerManager's preventScreenOn()

It sounds logic to me, because even editing the right keyboard file to add a wake_dropped to the volume down, it won't turn on the screen. I hate when they change things the way they do with this, the bootloader, etc.

Any tricks to save power button?

I find power button is extensively used during EVO operation. Each time I want to check the the screen, or after making a call, I have a press that small tiny little power button to light up the screen. I am not sure whether this button is the weakest part of EVO.
Are there any tricks to save the use of this button?
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/a-concerning-amount-of-evo-users-report-power-button-crack/
No crack here so looks like they fixed it.
For tricks. Get an app that will turn the screen off. Change the setting to keep the screen on longer so if you are reading something it won't turn off. Have someone call you so the screen turns on and you don't have to use the power button.
Might be a way to use the volume rocker to turn the screen on. Have not looked into that since I am not concerned about my power key not working.
Aosp roms have configurations that allow you to turn the screen on and off without using the power button. Plus theirs an app in the market called screen locker that allows you to shut the screen with the "search" soft key

[Q] Screen off without locking device

Hi,
I want to know about any app or widget that just put screen to off, without locking the device. Same function like when I press the power button.
For example lock automatically device time is 5 minutes after screen automatically turns off. So if I press power button, it simply turn off the screen, if within 5 minutes pressing home button or power button again, it brings device on. (do not ask to unlock device pattern or pin)
So far I have checked almost all apps / widgets that on press, lock the device as well.
I am not looking for apps which are using any proximity or any other sensor. I am using galaxy s4
I already have checked other related questions in this xda developer, but could not find the answer to it exactly.
Thanks
Interested as well!

This one maybe: HERE. Try other thing too: Put the lockscreen off manually (Apps - Settings - My device - Lock Screen - Screen Lock - None)
