When will USB 3.0 be taken advantage of? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One of the biggest things I'm waiting for is for someone to utilize USB 3.0. I knew it was a long stretch for Samsung to include USB 3.0, but they are probably the closest to doing so.

So do you guys see USB 3.0 on the SGS5? Or is the technology not cheap enough to integrate it anytime soon? Anyone have any articles to share?

MHL Mirroring

Hey, could someone with the fone in hand confirm if Mirroring is possible through MHL as well as general video/picture sharing?
Cheers
Nobody knows, no one have a mhl cable atm
I'm hoping to be able to test this soon, as the MHL consortium are trying to source an MHL cable/adapter for me, if they are able to get one (they seem to be having some difficulty at present) then I will upload videos etc to demo this functionality. Barring them being able to supply me one then we'll be waiting until June, when the Samsung adapters are scheduled for release (listed at Clove).
Hey there NZtechfreak, I've seen your video of the SGS with bluetooth keyboard/mouse will full mirroring over rca.
Thats exactly what i want to be able to do , and I assume you are in the same boat.
I'm getting my SGS2 either today or tomorrow, so if i can somehow source a cable, i'll try it and report back here as well.
Thanks
Burko, I'll wait for your tests!!! I want to do the same thing. galaxy s II, mhl mirroring, bluetooth keyboard/mouse: a little netbook.
Thanks!!!

[Q] does android 3.1 have usb host?

so please forgive me if this is a dumb question but....
i seen the new 2.3.4 has USB host (best idea ever) and i wondering if 3.1 will have the usb host as well. also, i understand how hard and time consuming custom roms are, but what are the hurdling blocks to getting 3.1 to our devices? source? and by no means am i bashing anyone, thanks to everyone on this site i have a bad a$$ phone.
I know USB host was on Honeycomb 3.0, but I don't know if it was officially or what.. either way, USB host is possible to get on 3.1. And to your second question, it's the source. Google hasn't released the sources and we have no cousin device with Honeycomb, so we have to rely on running from all we get from the SDK. It's surprising how far they have come with it without sources, to be honest.

MHL USB Adapter Support?

Hello everyone. Within a month of receiving my tablet last year, I (or someone else using the tablet) somehow managed to damage one of the pins in the USB port and it no longer works. However, while researching the GNExus (I intend to purchase it soon) I began to wonder if the MHL Adapters for USB OTG will work with the Iconia? If anyone can confirm if it works or not I will greatly appreciate it. Here's a link to one that I intend to buy for the GNExus.

Thanks in advance!
Did you ever figure this out? I've had the a500 for awhile, just got the Nexus, picked up mhl adapter at same time. Would be slick if it works for a500 as-is, though I wouldn't be surprised if the micro-hdmi is much better to use...
Need to just get a micro-hdmi cable...
I think you misunderstood. I was referring to the USB OTG adapters. I did take the risk and buy one and unfortunately it doesn't work with the A500. Nothing I plug into it gets any power. Tried it with a friends HTC One X and it didn't seem to work there either. Not sure if it was supposed to work on the One X though.
Basically, it could just be a faulty cable, but it could also mean that it just isn't supported. Couldn't hurt to try if you already have one though
I already have a Micro-HDMI cable that I bought on Amazon a while ago. Works great and at $5 its a worthwhile investment
I'm running ****'s ICS ROM v158 based on Android 4.0.4 if it makes any difference.

Custom JB But What About Acer JB>?

Ok guys i have noticed one thing since the jelly-bean boot came thundering down apon us and we made the break within hours to get jelly b running for the thankf of dev's alike as randomblame and waydownsouth.
Have we stopped checking or official though? did a search and seems there may be offical jelly bean for us.!!!........
be it that we may have to wait until the next big android update is due to get it from our update-unreliable Acer lol.
just dont understand why the site says the a500 is only available in india......err im in london bought close by retail mofo.

Of their different tablets (100, 200, 700.. etc) only the 500 series is available in India. Not you can only buy it in India. Those are the only ones you can buy in India.
and good find. WDS is doing excellent work, and at worst, this would only drastically speed up his efforts.

i would say its pretty likely as the a500 is one of the acer flagship tablets :victory:
Will USB devices still be supported in JB (and future releases)? The number of tablets with USB ports is decreasing.

They should be. The new thing is USB OTG. That pretty means with the right adapter( Micro USB to full size USB) you can still do USB host( mice keyboards, thumb drives etc). On phones I think this is a good idea, but on tablets I think its a bad idea. The full saize port was one of the reasons I bought the A500.
i would think, so android supposed to be adding more and more applicable usb drivers to accept more usb "add-ons" it wouldnt make sense to start removing one of the best features of android, like Drewmungus says they will problably just change the format on new tabs for OTG, which in my opinion is bull****, i already have a full size to micro usb cable lol

Well, let's see... my Nexus 7 has a USB port. Jelly Bean came with the Nexus 7... so, I'd say... yes?
nice, I was thinking acer would just abandon it like many other companies that released newer upgraded versions
now I guess the only question is how long will it take to actually get the update...
I wasn't aware that the nexus 7 had a usb port on it, but I'm glad to hear it.
nexus 7 has a mini usb port (the same exact port used to connect the a500 to your comp) not a full size usb port if thats what you are referring too
Probably because a fullsize USB connector is almost as thick as an N7...

Is the micro usb port a hub or just a charging port on the nexus sorry for ot. Also are there any other jb a500 roms on the web anywhere besides wds's?
It's a full-on USB port, that also charges. AFAIK, you can use standard USB devices with a dongle adapter, and you can also plug in a USB hub, too.
Thats interesting to know thanks I may have to get one after all

Quick Charge 4.0 Support on 3rd Party ROMS

I know the Galaxy S8 supports by default Quick Charge 3.0 but does anyone have a thought onto how if the SD devices (like mine) get root, then get unofficial ROM ports to our devices, do you think in the future it would be possible if the ROMs could support Quick Charge 4.0 natively since the SD 835 is compatible with Quick Charge 4.0? I would love to see that soon in the future.
If anyone can answer this question, that would be greatful.
Thanks!
A chipset natively supporting something and a manufacturer implementing it are two very different things. Samsung would have to design the phone to utilize QC 4.0 which then will take advantage of the native chipset support.
Basically, No. The S8 is not even listed as supporting QC 3.0 in qualcoms website. There's been debates and discussions on other forums and the general consensus is. S8/S8+ only support QC 2.0
Samsung didn't bother adding support
It's not that samsung didn't bother but they didn't pay licenses to Qualcomm because they already paid a lot for sd835 licenses itself and a percentage of every phone sold.
Same goes with updates - if Qualcomm is hostile with updates Samsung will not release those.
