Galaxy S series always on the back burner in lieu of Galaxy Note? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

That's been a trend since the S III and it seems the S 4 is following suit. I guess for lack of time or supply constraints, they can never fit their proprietary designed-ARM based chip onto the phone with all the biggest markets. Most of the biggest markets always get stuck with a middling Qualcomm chip (read up on the differences between the Snapdragon 600 and 800) to make up for the lack of bands their LTE networks have. I'm sure like the Note II, the Note III will have probably figured out how to put an RBG strip on its Full HD AMOLED screen (Pixel arrangement differences could have an effect on color saturation and gamut); as well as a fully compatible Exynos 5 Octa or Snapdragon 800.
For lack of a better description, the S 4 feels like a "test subject", leading up to Samsung's hardware later in the year. I only wish the phone wouldn't be announced in Q1, so by the time it was released in late Q2, maybe it would have access to all of the year's most cutting-edge computational technology. Maybe there's nothing that can be done, but isn't anyone annoyed by this trend of things?

Ever since the Note came out with more than a £100 worth of free downloads and was a massive seller in South Korea I thought the Note family was Samsung's true flagship, I want the S4 lte but I have an N4 so might wait for the Note3 but that's probably 8/9 months away, the economy could be completely screwed by then.

I agree. More innovation seems to come with the note series both in terms of hardware and software.
Regarding the screen, N3 should have a full RGB matrix. The larger screen than S4 but with the same no of pixels should allow them to fit more sub-pixels without having to reduce pixel size. So pen-tile (diamond) should become full RGB- AWESOME.

I guess so, but that's because of different things. hardware wise its because the note has the advantage of coming later, when production of the chipset is already done. The galaxy s series comes out earlier so its harder. As far as software i don't think the note 3 is going to be ridiculous superior to the S IV , it will have a bigger battery and enhanced S pen features but the S IV is already full of features.

Well, it's not like they aren't doing what they can with the phone at the time they release it. It's certainly a worthy upgrade to the S III. They're just so consumed with market share statistics, they're allowing their Galaxy S series to be shafted from all the yearly top specifications, while letting the Note capitalize on them. Maybe some people want a top-end device that's only 5" inches. Being relegated to second-tier is... daunting, to say the least. Waiting to late-April or early May to announce the device, then release it a couple of weeks later in May or June probably would have offered them more material to work with.

The Next Big Thing Is Several Months Away! (Note 3 Wishlist) / Post Feedback!

What do you want in the Note 3? Eventually, a new product comes out every year; and it doesn't necessarily mean it is better; and it doesn't necessarily mean it is a success, lol
The Note 3 will very likely feature the following:
Obviously, the Note 2 is under scrutiny by Apple; will Note 3 be out later next year, only the outcomes of the case between Apple and Samsung will tell
Obviously, the design of the Note 3 will be quite different; perhaps Flexible AMOLED Unbreakable Display (maybe not)--possibly same SuperAMOLED like Note 2 but with more pixels squeezed into one display?
Obviously, 5.5" screen display will be the same; Samsung Nailed It!
Obviously, 2GB RAM, 1080p Resolution with a ppi of ~440
Obviously, Samsung Exynos 5 5450 Quad-core (2 GHz or more)
Obviously, 13mp Camera
Obviously, A better battery will be there as seen between the Note 1 and Note 2 with wireless charging
Lastly, Obviously, Further Enhancements to S-Pen (Hardware and Software Enhancements)
Not to forget, The next iteration of Android OS and Samsung's Touchwiz 6.0
*Final Add to Rumorville Korea*
Agree or Disagree?
What do you want in the Note 3?
EDIT
After CES 2013
SuperAMOLED HD similar to Note 2; but 1080p resolution with ~440ppi; 6.3"
Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (Forget Samsung's Plastic)
Exynos 5 Octa (1.8 GHz A15 & 1.2GHz A7 Quad-core Chips); More power-efficient
Mali-658
2GB RAM
13mp Camera
Obviously, slightly larger battery
Android's Lime OS
In a Alternate Universe; Flexible 5.5" AMOLED Display with Corning's Flexible Glass (Very unlikely in my opinion; will start appearing in early-2014)
So, what do you think?
1.crApple has nothing on samsung and will lose the case
2.nope unbreakable plastic screen like the one in the S4
3.With the S4 having 5" screen i doubt it i think they will try to set it further away maybe 5.7" not sure
4.yup
5. 1.9ghz? why? the current chips is crazy fast and the coming quad core A15 one is the bleeding edge of technology why need such high frequency to drain battery?
6.yup
7. (from me) this thread is kinda useless right now unless you are looking for "wish list" then it will be ok, other than that i see no use for this
The Note 99 will have a teleporter function, to beam you from one location to another
***Final***
I'm confident with the following,
Obviously, the Note 2 is under scrutiny by Apple; will Note 3 be out later next year, only the outcomes of the case between Apple and Samsung will tell

It's called Figure-of-Speech. :victory: Based on the Release Pattern of Samsung's New Products, obviously, the specifications mentioned above are very likely.

Camera should be kept at 8MP!!
More megapixels is not the problem. It is the ability of the sensor to perform better harsher or dim light conditions. Even currently, we are nowhere close to getting all that we can out of a 8MP sensor. Higher megapixels just makes this worse. If the technology would improve for low light or better dynamic range, losing more photons, having less light information per pixel, or having more megapixels to process would just negate any technology gained if they put a 13 megapixel camera.
Take for example LG Optimus G. 13 megapixels, and the quality is just stunningly bad. This is the same sensor that Samsung tried to buy from Sony, but said Sony couldn't provide enough for production demands of the Note II. We seriously dodged a bullet. More like a shotgun blast.
Too soon for unbreakable glass.. there is a big market for cases and accessories. For example look at the iphone 5. Scratches easy. Almost everyone has a case lol...

These replies are too funny. I agree with the OP on everything. Unbreakable glass would be great considering all of these freak accidents but I doubt it'll happen. Considering how expensive this phone is it should've already had unbreakable glass. 1080p screen will definitely be added, I think we're all sure of that.
I wonder when they will add the successor to Wireless N
At least 3GB of RAM, I highly doubt they'll leave it at 2 when there's already been rumors about 3GB phones in the Samsung labs.

smaller battery than the 7.7, no OLED screen and compared to the ipad mini, the benchmarks seem lower (there is a link on sammobile comparing them). I do hope the performance will be better. If priced right, should be a nice tablet, but I feel there might a lot of tablets introduced at MWC this year.
It seems like they are going for the budget tablet crowd this time, that is too bad but who can blame them with the success of the 200 dollar tablets.
I really wanted to get a 8-9 inch upgrade for the 7.7 but worse battery life and screen will probably be a deal breaker for me.
No need. Quite vanilla. Pass.
Seems that 7.7 is srill best buy Got mine today! Awesome tab, not small, not large, and ability to use as phone, just superb!

rumor says same as Note 10.1 & 2
Doubt this will sway me over to upgrade. The specs look ****ty.
I just picked up a Nexus 10 and may eventually drop my 7.7 depending on usage scenarios. Lack of a completed CM rom (9, 10 or 10.1) due to Samsung is the main culprit. Maintainers for Exynos4 devices may not last much longer, which sucks ;[
on a brighter note, you can use it as your gps navigator, or you can even let the screen on for some time without worrying about burn ins.
Its not close. It simply sucks compared with the 7.7
Hopefully we'll get a JB update for our Tabs that will allow us to keep it long enough to see an update worth upgrading
Honestly Samsung can do better. Like a 1080p Super Amoled screen a battery a least the same size as the 7.7 (Come on the Note III is rumored to have a 5,000mA battery !! Bigger than this crap 8" Note !! Something' wrong there !), etc...
Would explain why Samsung are reluctant to provide the JB update for the 7.7 (at least not until these new tablets are available). 7.7 + JB would be tough to beat even with older processor
Guys the market has moved enormously since the 7.7 was announced and then launched.
When the 7.7 was announced the only real competition was Apple and the 7.7 was priced against the Ipad and component costs could therefore be quite high.
Since then prices for tablets have tumbled about 50% and as a consequence component costs have got squeezed.
While we all love the SuperA screens on our tabs I suspect the costings mean it's unlikely to be on another product anytime soon, everything after including phones has been Pentile screen AFAIK.
The next 'flexible' screen looks really interesting but I hate to think of the manufacturing cost and therefore how much the tablet will cost......
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda app-developers app
I think breaking the current pixel barrier on 7 inch screens is something that all of the manufacturers are struggling with, especially with price expectations being what they are now compared to when the 7.7 was first released.

Comparison testing has shown AMOLED screens to have higher contrasts, deeper blacks, etc. Also better outside viewing & power consumption.
Not to say that Sony's Super Clear LCD is terrible...on the contrary, it can really shine in the right scenarios. I really think price point is the sole reason the Note 8.0 will be featuring it.
I'd be willing to place money on this being a sub $300 device
they should've made two of these, one aimed for the low-mid market (w/ LCD) and the one aimed for people with deep pocket
seriously, this is not a replacement for out 7.7 it's just another Note, just like the note 10.1 was made not as a replacement for Tab 10.1
Too bad, I was hoping for a 7.7 Note w/ the SAMOLED+ screen. I wouldn't even care as much about higher resolution, as I'm fine w/ the 7.7's and same specs as Note2 would satisfy me. What I do want is the stylus w/ airview, & MultiView as I sometimes wish my Note2 and 7.7 were one device.
^likewise, but what sammy did was lower down the bar just to compete with a lower spec'd iPad Mini, even our old 7.7 will whip the ipad easily, I've seen the mini, compared it side by side with my 7.7 and immediately, there's a striking difference in screen quality and resolution.
Then I remembered, the Galaxy tab 10.1 2 is another "DOWNGRADE" from the original 10.1
hey sammy should start making a new low budget tablet line tagged under NEBULA series LOL
well... at least it still has the earpiece?

Note III will be Announced on September 4

5.7 full hd display
3gb ram
13mp camera and many more
The next generation Galaxy Note phablet from Samsung is one of the most anticipated devices of the year, so understandably rumors about it aren't hard to come by. According to latest report the Galaxy Note III will be announced two days before IFA 2013 kicks off - on September 4.
The report also says Samsung Galaxy Note III is said to sport a 5.7" Super AMOLED display, rather than the 6" unit that was most frequently mentioned so far. The 1080p resolution is still expected to feature a Snapdragon 800 chipset or an Exynos 5 Octa processor along with 3 GB of RAM.
Furthermore, the third generation Galaxy Note phablet is said to come out with a 13 megapixel rear camera and will be slightly thinner than the Galaxy Note II with its profile measuring 8mm.
Unfortunately, there is no official word from Samsung just yet, but the IFA 2013 launch seems inevitable, considering the strong competition in the phablet club.

5.7 and 1080p 99% pentile , with a so so chip that will have the same relative 3D power than the note at 720p.
Skipping to note 3.
Call me again when they launch a 1080p non-pentile with better processor and 6" without bezel to put the frontal samsung logo.
As I feared, the Note 3 will be a minor update to the Note 2. Samsung needs to bring a new phablet to remain competitive in this market segment and so it decided to fit the S4's camera, fit a new processor with dubious real life performance improvement, slightly increase the size of the screen and make it FHD to keep it up with the Joneses. Big deal...
Note 4, please.
This does NOT make me anxious for the Note 3 to be released.
Seems they want me to pay hundreds of dollars just to upgrade to a 1080p display that's slightly larger, and I bet we'll lose A LOT of battery life too (because of the bigger/higher resolution display).

I tend to agree with you. Of course there are always consumers who want to have the latest phone, but considering the price tag and that the Note series consumer is, IMO, a bit more tech savvy than the S series consumer, I believe that the Note 3 sales will be disappointing.
I look at the price of my Note 2 and the price tag of my laptop and they are about the same. When people look at the size of my Note 2 and ask "is that a cellphone?" I always answer: "actually, it is a pocket computer that also makes phone calls", 'cause that's the way I see my Note 2 (and in that perspective, 5.5" isn't too big).
Now, I'm not going to sell my laptop just because the new generation has some minor hardware updates. I don't really need them and it does not make any financial sense to spend money on a new laptop when my current one suits my needs perfectly. Specially in these times when we must think twice before spending our money. This reasoning also applies to my "pocket computer that also makes phone calls", i.e., my Note 2.
The two things that I really miss in my everyday use of the Note 2 is a slightly bigger screen to take notes, browse and read PDFs, and improved sunlight legibility. A camera with better low light quality and an image stabilizer that actually works would also be handy. The Note 3 brings none of this. Hence, I'll save my money for whatever future device offers me the features I really need, Samsung or not.

+1.
I'm really disappointed in Note III specs, I'm already looking for this beast: Sony Xperia Z Ultra :good:
I used Note 2 since the first day it was released, which makes it about almost 10 months old already. And to me, with the direction Samsung is heading by releasing so many variants, S4 Zoom, S4 Active, S4 Snap 800, S4 LTE Snap 600, S4 GSM Octa and so on makes me wanna puke, and I'm pretty sure there'll be at least 2-3 variants of Note 3. Hence, for once, I'm going to the brand that I hated so much last year, but now I've come to respect in terms of developer support and that is Sony. I'll go with Xperia Z Ultra. I don't need the S-Pen since I've used it for less than 50 times, so with Z Ultra, if I need to jot down notes, I'll take some pen or pencil and be done with it.Plus, the ROMs will have less bloatware too :victory::victory::victory: and that's an epic win for me
Or maybe, just maybe, we could actually wait for Samsung to reveal Note 3, and then discus on specs and if it's worth of upgrade.
I don't think I will upgrade to the Note III. I am getting my Note II in a few days, but I have used the Note II since launch date since I bought one for my dad. I am sure we can see a 2.3-2.5 GHz Snapdragon 800 or Exynos Octa Core Processor with 13 MP camera, 1080p resolution, a screen around 5.9", 2-4 GB of RAM (probably 3), 3600-3800 mAh battery, upgraded S-Pen support, a bunch of the S4 features, some unique features for the Note III, non-pentile display too, etc. The only things that I see as an upgrade are the processor and RAM really. The screen resolution is nice, but it is not necessary/ground breaking to have for app usage since devs support many devices. The camera will be amazing like the S4's, the battery life will be compensating the increase in screen resolution power. I wouldn't be surprised if we see three Note III's, an LTE model, an international HSPA+ (N7200), and LTE-Advanced model.

I second that. I tried taking pictures of my car with my Note 2 to send to someone interested in buying it and they call came out looking like crap because I couldn't make out what was on the screen even though the sun wasn't hitting the screen directly. Here are my thoughts; maybe they'll help others deciding whether to leave the N2 for the N3. First, the N2’s been the best phone I’ve ever owned. Its combination of features and performance make it a great all-around device. I’m one of the few that actually use S Pen, S Note, multiview, the Pop up browser, Samsung Link, KiesAir and quite a few of Samsung’s other s/w features. I’m going to get a N3 as soon as I can, probably the Octa/Mali version. If the S-800 international version supports global LTE than I may get it instead. I have no interest in a U.S. carrier version of the N3.
Here are my main reasons for switching:
Performance – While the N2’s no slouch more is always better; especially from the GPU. I’m sure that the N3 having twice the pixel count of the N2 is going to offset some of that performance but it should still be a noticeably smoother device. That’s in spite of the boat load of additional s/w “tricks” that will most likely be included which is why I’m betting Samsung’s upped the RAM to 3GB (which in retrospect they should have done with the SGS4). The RAM on the N3 is also supposed to be faster than the SGS4.
32GB of Storage – Even though I’m sure we’ll be paying for it via a higher MSRP I’m thrilled that the N3 will start at 32GB (assuming the rumor’s true). It’s great that Samsung created an A2SD feature starting with the SGS4 but it does you know good on certain DRM protected apps that won’t/don’t recognize external storage.
The Camera – 13MP with OIS and potentially a Xenon flash sounds terrific. It’ll most likely be the Exmor RS sensor from Sony which has gotten great reviews from i9500 users (the i9505 uses the older Exmor R sensor).
Battery – A 3,450mAh battery is kick-ass and, based on Octa/S-600 in the SGS4, should deliver 25% better battery life over the N2 in spite of all Samsung’s additional sensors and the extra pixels from the 1080P display. Pack a spare battery and you could be away from an outlet for two days easy with a N3.
Software – I like Samsung’s gimmicks. Some are incredibly useful while others are cool “just because you can.” The N3 will have all the S4’s new s/w and then some. The N3 will keep me entertained for hours just playing with it. Samsung also registered a new URL (samsungpenup.com) that could mean they are finally investing in S Note and potentially making it multi-platform so you can open and edit S Notes on non-Samsung windows PCs.
Here are some reasons I wouldn’t switch:
720P vs. 1080P – At 12-15” away the human eye can’t resolve the detail between the two. With the N2’s large display I find I typically hold it further away anyway. I’m sure the N3’s display will be an upgrade in image reproduction but the additional pixels alone don’t sway me. The N2’s got a great non-PenTile display and I have no complaints with it.
5.5” vs. 5.68” – The bump in size may seem larger in everyday use but it’s not big enough (at least to me) to justify replacing the N2 for it. If Samsung plays with the DPI so that you can get more on the display (5 rows of icons vs. 4) that would be interesting. A higher quality larger display with more on it is more attractive than a fractional bump in size. I also don’t think anything over 5.68” is necessary to ink and view multiple apps and am glad Samsung didn’t throw the N3 in to the “colossus wars” like Sony, LG, and HTC have.
Design/Size – Unless Samsung’s got some surprises in store I’d bet the N3 will follow in the SGS4’s footsteps – more stuff, bigger display, smaller and/or lighter package. That’s cool to have but I’m fine with both the N2’s size and design.
Here’s why I wouldn’t leave Samsung for HTC, Sony, Motorola or LG:
Samsung’s Mass – Developers of mass market apps launch stuff for Samsung devices first and best. Samsung devices represent the largest audiences available and they tend to be more thorough in their testing for it. Here’s an example. My cable company has a “watch live TV app.” It works on iOS and one Android device; Samsung’s Note-series so I have it on my N2 and Note 10.1.
They Make Cool Stuff – WatchOn’s brilliant if you have a Samsung SmartTV. Not only can you use WatchOn to find stuff easily and control the TV their newer TV’s have AllShare Cast built-in as well as Samsung Link and the ability (on higher-end models) to watch content (including DRM protected) on your Samsung mobile device.
Samsung Link is life changing. It’s your own personal network that allows all your devices to be accessible to each other all the time. For mobile devices that includes over 3/4G. For example, if I’m on 3G with my Note 10.1 and want to pull a Word document off my home server all I need to do is access it via Samsung link. Same goes if I want to move pics taken on my phone to my tablet.
All the above is of course a YMMV. I love Samsung’s s/w and there are tons of people that couldn’t live without AOSP and the “pureness” of whatever Google’s serving up. Also a ton of people bought the N2 because of the size of its display and could care less about inking and Samsung's additional features. For them there will be a ton of additional giant phone choices this year. For people like me the only reason I have a giant phone is because of things like S Note/S Pen so there really isn't another choice; at least not based on what's been announced/leaked so far.
Happy decision making and enjoy whatever your choice may be.
Damn BarryH....great synopsis!

No... I will wait for note 4

@ Barry, you wouldn't switch because of the display??? That's my main reason to switch. If you experience a 1080p display or should I say a 320+ Ppi display, you'll definitely notice the difference. Not that it breaks the experience on the note 2, far from it, but I would say that the display is definitely a main reason to upgrade because 1080p displays are NOTICEABLY better than 720p displays.

I have absolutly same opinion.
The decision is easy for me because I'm moving from S2. I was waiting for S4, but seeing my wife's N2 and the usefulness of the S Pen at that screen size, I decided to get a Note 3 at launch. Now, I'm deciding whether to sell my Note 10.1, since I find myself using the recently acquired 11" Macbook Air for most of my "work/entertainment from the couch" activities and there'll be some overlap between N3 and N10.1.
I'm not buying another phone until they either switch back to plastic screens, or develop one that doesn't break when you drop the thing. Cracking my Note 2 screen was devastating...

Not really. I've posted this before and you're probably tired of seeing it but it's true. Beyond a certain PPI the human eye can't resolve the additional detail. And where it can is limited to CGI and text not pictures and video which is explained in the article.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/10/1080p-on-a-smartphone-screencan-it-possibly-matter/
In every area outside resolution the HTC One's display is inferior to the One X's. People have become so hung up on PPI that they've stopped caring about the criteria that affects them most like consistency across displays, brightness, color temperature, contract, etc. I think the N3's display will be better than the N2's more because of improvements in AMOLED design and manufacturing than just PPI. The SGS4's display is significantly brighter than the N2's and the N3's will probably be more so because there's more battery to work with in terms of where Samsung can set max brightness.
Here's what AnandTech (who arean't big Samsung fans) said about the N2's display.
It’s tempting to look at the 1280x800 of the Note and the 1280x720 of the Note 2 and assume it’s lower resolution, when in fact the Note 2 has more subpixels (2.05 MP vs 2.76 MP) and in spite of the size increase stays around the magical 1 arcminute subtense (1.073 arcminutes on Note 2).The reference to 1 arcminute is significant. Anything below 1 arcminute can't be processed by the human eye at 12-15" away. The One and SGS4 have an arcminute subtense of .66 which is just a waste. That is unless someone holds the phone 12" or less away from their face and happen to be looking at text or icons. I think the improvements people are seeing on newer displays has less to do with PPI in some cases (SGS3 vs. SGS4) and more to do with advances in technology that impact overall display performance.

Any news about the new note 10.1 tablet?

The note 4 is out so I think that it is the next in line....
Any news guys?
I hope not! Releasing another note will make it that much easier for Samsung not update our tablet
They will I reckon but maybe in a couple of months time. Will be suprised if they don't ... All Samsung are doing at the bloody minute is releasing anything and everything.

I agree. Even without releasing new tablet, samsung (seems) already abandon the note 2014 users in Europe....
I don't think they will launch a new one. It already exists tab4 series and our tablet still carry the 2014 name, I guess maybe in January or February.
I don't think it will be until next year. The note 10.1 runs the same base platform as tab 's and tab pro. I reckon 1q15
I think it may change to SuperAMOLED screen for the next 10 incher note from Samsung.

AMOLED sucks on whites and most productivity and creation apps use light backgrounds. Here's the battery life of the S' on light backgrounds. I'll pass.

Personally I will be willing to take the hit. My battery life on the Note 10.1 is more than enough for me ... I regularly top it up anyway and never too far from a power socket. But yeah the screen on the S is truely amazing if you ask me, the one thing I hate on the hardware side of our tablet is at night the blacks are terrible! I'm just used to my S3 blacks tbh. Anyhoo not that it matters I aint ganna buy a Samsung product anytime soon.
A Note S (actually probably three - 8.4, 10.1, and 12.2) with AMOLED should be next, but I doubt anything will happen before Samsung gets enough 20nm production going for its next-gen Exynos (which appears to be what's hiding inside the non-Qualcomm Note 4).
Also, they may be waiting for Apple's next-gen iPad and/or Android L.

As soon as the 2014 came out Samsung practically forgot about the OG note 10.1.
Despite lackluster specs it had such potential. Its multitasking capabilities were superior, nav bar was welcomed. Instead a barely supported tablet with oodles of software bugs is it's legacy.
I swore I would never buy Samsung but I really did miss the spen. Only phone/tablet I ever ran stock(on purpose)
@md1008 ... yeah its a joke, I got KitKat few days ago and installed it yesterday. It just feels kinda pointless as Android L is around the corner.
I feel the same with Samsung - Not again.

I wouldn't call bringing the N10.1-12 up to 4.4 "forgetting" it. I had a N10.1-12 before I bought the N10.1-14 when it first came out which means I used it on both 4.3 and 4.4. I'd take either over the N10.1-12. People seem to wax poetic over the N10.1-12 but, at least to me, the N10.1-14 is better in every way. A 147 PPI display is downright painful to use these days. Samsung's policy on backwardly updating their own s/w on older devices when newer versions are released on newer devices (EG: N2 getting N3 features, N10.1-12 getting N10.1-14 features) is simple . They don't. So if that's a big deal to people they either need to live with it or not buy Samsung's products. I doubt it'll change going forward.

The update didn't come for months and I believe the US model did not receive update at least it didn't before I sold it a month or two ago, it was stuck on 4.1.2.
Spec wise the 2014 is far better(as it should be) I did prefer the multi window setup better than post jellybutton and the nav bar is I believe better than the stupid home button. Tablet UI was nice but tablet is no longer supported since kit Kat.
Frankly I thought the note 10.1(2012) could have been great but fell short in so many ways
In the UK the prices of the Note 10.1 2014 Edition have been slashed like crazy. Last week it was selling for £450 and now all major retailers selling for £330! ... and one of the major retailers who is even listed on Samsungs website (John Lewis) no longer even list the Note 10.1 2014 (they had slashed prices too before they took it offline).
Surely this must be signs of a new Note 10.1 in the works. Have prices dropped in US or anywhere else?

The entry level Samsung tablets had/have sort of an eternal life, with terribly outdated hardware. So why should the Note not last for another year? Currently you could only employ a newer Snapdragon, slighly faster and w/64bit. An OLED i dont consider innovative, just different, with a taste of worse.
None of the 64-bit Snapdragons to date are faster - all are A53 only. I assume we'll get 64-bit Exynos+AMOLED Note refreshes as soon as Samsung's yields on 20nm improve. (The 5433 in the non-Qualcomme Note 4 is A57/A53 at 20nm disguised as a 32 bit processor.)

Yeah I reckon it will be AMOLED, Metal frame, Note 4 software and S-pen updates.
And obviously faster processor whatever it is.

I agree.
Plus this tablet should last another 2 years ... or I'm going to make it last haha.
By then we will hopefully have greater choice of none Samsung devices.
