smaller battery than the 7.7, no OLED screen and compared to the ipad mini, the benchmarks seem lower (there is a link on sammobile comparing them). I do hope the performance will be better. If priced right, should be a nice tablet, but I feel there might a lot of tablets introduced at MWC this year.

It seems like they are going for the budget tablet crowd this time, that is too bad but who can blame them with the success of the 200 dollar tablets.
I really wanted to get a 8-9 inch upgrade for the 7.7 but worse battery life and screen will probably be a deal breaker for me.

No need. Quite vanilla. Pass.

Seems that 7.7 is srill best buy Got mine today! Awesome tab, not small, not large, and ability to use as phone, just superb!

rumor says same as Note 10.1 & 2

Doubt this will sway me over to upgrade. The specs look ****ty.
I just picked up a Nexus 10 and may eventually drop my 7.7 depending on usage scenarios. Lack of a completed CM rom (9, 10 or 10.1) due to Samsung is the main culprit. Maintainers for Exynos4 devices may not last much longer, which sucks ;[

on a brighter note, you can use it as your gps navigator, or you can even let the screen on for some time without worrying about burn ins.

Its not close. It simply sucks compared with the 7.7
Hopefully we'll get a JB update for our Tabs that will allow us to keep it long enough to see an update worth upgrading
Honestly Samsung can do better. Like a 1080p Super Amoled screen a battery a least the same size as the 7.7 (Come on the Note III is rumored to have a 5,000mA battery !! Bigger than this crap 8" Note !! Something' wrong there !), etc...

Would explain why Samsung are reluctant to provide the JB update for the 7.7 (at least not until these new tablets are available). 7.7 + JB would be tough to beat even with older processor

Guys the market has moved enormously since the 7.7 was announced and then launched.
When the 7.7 was announced the only real competition was Apple and the 7.7 was priced against the Ipad and component costs could therefore be quite high.
Since then prices for tablets have tumbled about 50% and as a consequence component costs have got squeezed.
While we all love the SuperA screens on our tabs I suspect the costings mean it's unlikely to be on another product anytime soon, everything after including phones has been Pentile screen AFAIK.
The next 'flexible' screen looks really interesting but I hate to think of the manufacturing cost and therefore how much the tablet will cost......

I think breaking the current pixel barrier on 7 inch screens is something that all of the manufacturers are struggling with, especially with price expectations being what they are now compared to when the 7.7 was first released.

product sheet revealed also...Quad-Core 1.6 Ghz. Exynos, I'd imagine.

My guess...the slightly smaller battery & Super Clear LCD will put it right around $299-$349 price point

Any thoughts on how that display will compare to AMOLED?

Comparison testing has shown AMOLED screens to have higher contrasts, deeper blacks, etc. Also better outside viewing & power consumption.
Not to say that Sony's Super Clear LCD is terrible...on the contrary, it can really shine in the right scenarios. I really think price point is the sole reason the Note 8.0 will be featuring it.
I'd be willing to place money on this being a sub $300 device

they should've made two of these, one aimed for the low-mid market (w/ LCD) and the one aimed for people with deep pocket
seriously, this is not a replacement for out 7.7 it's just another Note, just like the note 10.1 was made not as a replacement for Tab 10.1

Too bad, I was hoping for a 7.7 Note w/ the SAMOLED+ screen. I wouldn't even care as much about higher resolution, as I'm fine w/ the 7.7's and same specs as Note2 would satisfy me. What I do want is the stylus w/ airview, & MultiView as I sometimes wish my Note2 and 7.7 were one device.

^likewise, but what sammy did was lower down the bar just to compete with a lower spec'd iPad Mini, even our old 7.7 will whip the ipad easily, I've seen the mini, compared it side by side with my 7.7 and immediately, there's a striking difference in screen quality and resolution.
Then I remembered, the Galaxy tab 10.1 2 is another "DOWNGRADE" from the original 10.1
hey sammy should start making a new low budget tablet line tagged under NEBULA series LOL

well... at least it still has the earpiece?
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/01/24/leaked-samsung-galaxy-note-8-0/
honestly i am not sure who to blame here. Google decided to use a horrible ui for all tablets from 4.2 forward essentially using just a enlarged phone ui.
So in response samsung just made a huge phone hardware...

Did you guys see the hands on video yet? 720p SAMOLED+ screen, exynos internal and an external sd slot in a thinner package
I'm not sure if it's the exynos internal or the 3.2 but the rotation and home screen transition looked extremely smooth

Eh, the 7" is a great size for traveling.
i think ill sell my 10" when this comes out, it'll be nice to get off the tegra 2 and get something a little more portable
I'm more interested in the Samsung Galaxy Note for my next phone. I thought anything bigger than 4.5" would be too bit for a phone, but after watching the videos, it seems fine. I guess the thinness and tiny bezel help a lot. Sadly we probably won't see it on US carriers for 6 months.
No Kal-El... no thanks!
What's the point of getting something that will be obsolete a couple of months later. Asus has plans to release a Kal-El tablet this year even.
Besides, I'm getting the Galaxy SII phone with a 4.5" display. 7.7" would be too small of a jump from it.
i just wish the 10.1 would have come with exynos.
and the ppi on those screens!!
I had a Euro Galaxy Tab 7" and while it was very portable. I kept wishing it was bigger when playing games. Especially, when play Order & Chaos. The new 7.7 is tempting but I learned my lesson once already. If I were to switch, the 8.9 would probably be the one for me.
BTW, love the Samsung Note. I wonder which SoC its using? Anyone have the complete specs for it?
It's running the same as the 7.7, we know that haha.
The note sounds sweet! 5.3" super amoled at 1280x800....damn

Seriously if you already have a smart phone there is no need for a tablet with a screen less than 10".

Says who? Is it comfortable reading a book on a 3.5-4" screen smartphone? Surfing the full-mode web? Didn't think so.
7" is most likely the sweet spot for portable tablets, and the reason why all e-readers are around that size. The perfect tablet size for me would be 8-9" as well.

That's bull. My OG Tab is still used every day (though it gets retired the minute I can get my hands on that 7.7), along with my old 4" SGS and my current 4.3" SGS2, and I have a Tab 10.1
Different tools for different jobs.
This looks fantastic! Got the 10.1 myself and while it's awesome, this HD resolution, MircroSD slot, Dual Core etc make it a very appealing device. Form factor is lovely as well and seems an ideal size for traveling. Will see what else pops up at IFA and will await Kal El devices as well.

No one would ever have a device with this mentality. One has to have gadget nirvana: make your decision based on what's available at that time, then relax and don't worry if it's not the absolute latest thing. Will it still do what you want? Yep! Will it not have that lastest shiny thing that marketing departments want you to think you need in order to not want to hurl yourself off a bridge in envy of others? Maybe not, but who gives a crap.
Kal-el devices will be overshadowed by the next gen processor or integrated GPU or whatever very soon after they are on the market. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to wait a bit for something you think will be better and has a definite launch date. But, to be constantly on edge that whatever device you get will be "obsolete" soon after purchase is kind of a slavish mentality.
I'm reminded of a coworker I had who was putting off buying a digital camera because they kept getting better every six months. So, in 2009 she was still using a dinky 110 film camera.
Anyway, not to rant. But, if we need (need may be too strong a word for tablets) a device then playing the waiting game is as much as a con as it is a pro.

In my opinion a slightly faster processor in a completely different tablet will not make this tablet obsolete. What makes this tablet so great is so much more than the processor, it's the portable size, 7.89mm thinness, 335g weight, and 7.7 inch Super AMOLED Plus at 1280 x 800 is unheard of. A year ago, even six months ago this screen technology would have been nearly impossible to manufacture/incredibly expensive. Sony used to sell a 7 inch qHD OLED monitor that cost $2,500. Needless to say the display in the 7.7 is a breakthrough to say the least for the future of OLED on larger screens.
I say reward yourself now. When Tegra 3 or better comes out, you upgrade to the newer one & either resell or hand me down gift to someone.

Galaxy Tab 7.7 on the way

Saw this yesterday. Looks like the 7.7 appears to be on the way.
For those of you like me who have recently picked up the 7.0 plus... What are your thoughts on this? I am happy with my 7+ but the 7.7 is what I was originally waiting for.

Like you I was strongly attracted to the 7.7 when I was in the market to buy. At that time, no word when/if we'd get it here. And imports were $600 and up. Bought the Gt 7+ and have not looked back since.
Gotta say yes, the larger screen (not by much ), AMOLED quality (very nice) and slightly faster processor makes a very attractive package.
But....
Our community here is growing (not light speed but still), we have root and CWM (thanks gary9d), more than a few recognized devs are following here and there are a selection of cases/sleeves with more on the way.
Who is to say the aftermarket accessories manufacturers will embrace SO MANY different "flavors" of GTab (7.0, 7.0+, 7.7, 8.9, 10.1 and perhaps an 11.0?) I'm doubtful myself.
Keep thinking...."a bird in hand is worth two in the bush"
Most likely I am staying with my GTab 7+. But YMMV

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but there are quite a few more upgrades on the 7.7 over the 7.0 Plus. Bigger battery (5100mAh vs 4000mAh), thinner, lighter, 64GB option, and as you mentioned better display all around - Super AMOLED Plus, higher resolution at 1280 x 800, and larger at 7.7 inches. The only sacrifice really is that it's ever so slightly taller and wider in dimensions, and probably will cost a bit more. I wouldn't underestimate the number of people holding out for the 7.7, I think the dev community will be strong, and I suspect it will have support for CyanogenMod 9.
Although as with all electronics something better will always be just around the corner, as rumors are swirling of a Galaxy Tab 8.3 in the works (Super AMOLED Plus, quad core 1.5GHz, Ice Cream Sandwich), so if you decide to stick with the 7.0 Plus no one is stopping you from enjoying it to the fullest!

You're right, thanks! I forgot about the battery.
Quite right that there's always "something better" just around the corner. If one were to wait for the next best thing, one would never get anything I suspect. As long as whatever you gets does what you want, it's all good.
It's can be a crap-shoot on community support. Samsung devices have the reputation for quality hence usually a good following. That said, I believe that people who gravitate to forums like this tend to be more tech-centric than the majority of tab users. I do wonder though as I read several articles (trades and users) praising the 7+ but somewhat negative mentions about the price. I am curious just how high Android tabs will be able to fetch. Granted, it's my belief that even the $499 iPad is over priced by at least $100 but I wonder if the $400 price point might be the "sweet spot" for full-featured tabs regardless of size? I'm not a "gamer" so my power needs are modest.
This is my first Samsung tab and I am impressed. But so many screen size choices? Price and not so much screen size/features, I suspect, will drive many sales. Witness B&N and Amazon. I confess I am sure I'll be comparing at BB the 7.7 and other screens when it hits!
Isnt the 7.7 going to be starting at $600? The upgrades look good but im not sure if its an extra $200 good.

Well we still don't know what the official prices are going to be, the sites that are offering pre-orders are pretty much just making up their own prices. I have heard however the official price in Australia will be $579 for the 16GB and $649 for the 32GB, and that's in AUD. Looking at the iPad 2 prices in AUD they are almost identical, and we don't know if these prices are for the WiFi or 3G/4G model, but I would suspect the 7.7 will be between $450-500 for the 16GB WiFi model in the US.
Can't wait to see it and compare it with my 7+. Size is my main concern, 7.7 is quite long and wider. If a device is too big, I cant really bring it out whenever I like. Not So useful and convenient like 7 inch tablet too. I once had a larger tablet and I almost left it everyday at my home, sold it at last. Anyway, 7.7 is worth waiting.

Hi. Im new to this part of xda. And this is somewhat bothersome news as I just bought my plus today. First tablet in some time that made me think wow. I have an ipad now. Owned the Transformer and Dell Streak 5 and 7. I was going to wait until spring.g to see the new XOOM, ipad3, and TF Prime but decided after seeing this I thought this could last awhile before going down in price.

I'm keeping my plus...
I don't think the upgrades from the 7.7 are worth it.
It will be really disappointing if we never get any good roms... But I'm mostly happy with root as it is.
Anyone who wants to sell The Galaxy Tab 7.7 can write me an PM! But I want it this year in Germany I would Pay 1000 Euros Cash!!!
I am very attracted to the 7.7 personally. Have an 8.9 that I'm planning on selling very soon. (Tegra 2 just plain sucks compared to Exynos frankly), and though it's a nice form factor, it's not for me. No phone calling ability is a big downer too; I like being able to swap my SIM card between my original Tab and phone depending on the situation.
Have the Note too, but not sure if I will keep it or not. Waiting to see what ICS will be like on it. Could be amazing, or could just be "meh." If it's not that much better, may sell my Note too and just stick to an SGS2/7.7 combo.
Then again, CES is right around the corner, so maybe it may be worth waiting longer still depending on what else may be coming out for 2012!
But oh that 7.7 sure looks nice... Damn, I'm such a consumer whore
My main reason for buying the 7+ is because it's quite versatile. I don't want to be lugging around a phone, tablet and laptop with me along with their respective accessories and chargers all day so I opted to buy the 7+. This means I can use my ultraportable for serious computing (negating the need to carry the charger), and the tablet for all my communication needs plus some light gaming, reading or browsing.
So it doesn't have the largest battery, or the best resolution, or the latest and greatest processor; but, it's got a large enough screen to comfortably read eBooks, browse the interwebs, and pretty much everything else. It's got decent enough performance (better than decent, actually) to handle all the apps I want + sd card expansion. And most importantly (for me), it doubles as a phone.
I know I look silly when I take calls on it, but I'm okay with that. Like the famous philosopher Jagger once said 'you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need'.
I love the 8.9 and initially wanted to get that, but in the end telephone capabilities and sd card expansion won out over a larger, more gorgeous screen.

Do you have a non wifi version? I got my 7+ yesterday and cant find a dialer on it
I am pickinmg my 7.7 wifi up tomorrow from **** Smith in Australia - can't wait, been wanting a tablet for ages. I had originally ordered a Transformer Prime until Amazon canceled the order. But this is the tablet I really wanted.
I don't know. I mean, I was planing to get the 7+ near the end of this month. I know that the screen and whatnot is better or the 7.7, but I seriously don't know if I would like the better screen or use the maybe bit more charge from it having a bigger battery to spend $200 more then what I was planing on spending.
I'm afraid that 7.7 might still have the Black stains/blotches on the screen, just like in S II. When viewing on dark room.
So no specific release date or price? If its not much more in price than the 7 plus and coming out fairly soon id like to return mine and wait for the 7.7

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Successor?

Hi Guys,
I currently own the Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6800 and love the device (especially after the ICS upgrade).
Such a nice combination of size, and functionality.
With the Galxy Note 2 reportedly coming out soon, what do you guys think about the Tab 7.7 successor?
I believe the Note and Tab 7.7 were announced the same time last year.

Don't ask me how I know this, but there is (or was as of a few months ago) a successor planned.
I also love the 7.7 because of the size, super amoled plus screen and the build quality but that comes at a high price compared to other tablets.
I would love Samsung to release a successor with a higher resolution screen (1920*1080), 2GB of memory, 2-GHz quad-core processor, S-Pen and Jelly bean which would make upgrading worthwhile.

Lets get a petition going. Ask them to sell it for $700-$900 gsm unlocked through google play. I'd pay $1000 for THIS one if it had a wacom digitizer...
Sent from my GT-P6800 using XDA Premium HD app
that would be nice... but dont want to pay premium for a device thats not future proof. Samsung and Google should go for 7.7 Nexus (premium device):fingers-crossed:
well if the new tab is a Samoled+ and 1080p along with the same battery timing and a 2gb ram + quadcore+ maintaining the same thin form factor then i will pay twice the price of the current one.... and i would love it like hell if there are two slots for microsd cards rather than just one... that would be the ultimate feature...
So, gentlemen, we've brainstormed the perfect SUPERTAB, now how do we get samsung (the sAMOLED+ patent holder) to make one?
7.7" form factor
sAMOLED+ with wacom digitizer (aka s-pen functionality)
243dpi or 1080p
2 sd card slots or perhaps 1 micro USB
GSM cell and data radio
5500miliamp bat.
1.4 ghz quad-core
2GB RAM
Really, the nexus, note, gTab 7.7, and 10.1 should all be galaxy class devices and have similar specs. Release them all at once, every holiday.
How do we get samsung to even consider a premium tier, mid tier and low-end tier though?
Their approach is so scattershot, there's no way they'd ever operate this way.

hope they include
-IR blaster
-mini USBport
-8-12mpxl main cam with xenon flash
-thinner bezel
they should redesign the speaker positions like those gtabs in germany wherein the speakers are on top and the bottom of the device (front facing i think)
so that whenever I play something, I won't inadvertently cover the speaker ports
Are you kidding?
I've only just started using my 7.7 in earnest after the ICS update.

i agree to this. but yeah a successor would be nice. as long as my current 7.7 can do what i want it to do then i'm fine with it hehe.
for me, at least, the features that i would like for it to have is:
- higher resolution/dpi screen
- 8 or 12mp camera at the back
- 3 or 5mp camera in front
- removable/replaceable battery (no tablet has this i think)
- microUSB suporrt
- a better and faster media scanner (current one is pretty slow)
- orientation lock for the native video player
- better/louder speakers
- support for external hard drive usage
- dual sim support
- dual microSD suport
- keep receiver mode (love that i can call and send text messages using this tablet)
speaking of impossible, it would be awesome if the tab industry makes a tablet that can fold the screen into two, making it two screens. just unfold to return back to the full screen. LOL

Why have you stopped?
But seriously, there is no reason why these can't be included in a tab, but the drawbacks, I believe are:
1) Google want people to use "cloud"/internet to save and retrieve information from - not USB or internal storage - more advertising revenue (?)
2) The reason for a non-replaceable battery is that it is of a much better quality, whilst keeping production costs down - spare part batteries may also keep the device going longer than Samsung wish.
3) other things will come as technology improves and costs are kept under control - e.g. producing a drastically better dpi screen would double the price of the tab because that is not the current norm.
Anyway, this time next year, a lot of these wishes could be the norm.
A removable battery should be included, what happens when the original battery dies? Are we gonna be forced to buy a new tab because we can't replace battery?

7.7" SAMOLED 286 PPI @ 1080P, oh man that screen would be gorgeous... That screen + Exynos Quad + 2GB of RAM would be pretty sweet device (and realistic too). Because they can make higher PPI displays using pentile matrix on OLED tech. (S III has 306 PPI).
Unfortunately with the release and pricing of the Nexus 7, I'll be surprised to see Samsung continue to compete in this area... Which is unfortunate with the many features I appreciate missing in the Nexus.

The next nexus tablet could be a motorola, which has licensed the sAMOLED patent from samsung, or samsung manufactured the screen for the droid razr... also, toshiba has released a sAMOLED tablet, but I've been too busy fawning over mine to pay much attention to it.
I'd be willing to bet a "nexus line" of products will be coming along soon. Mid-high range devices for professionals and not just enthusiasts...
that day will come

You are right. Will there be 3rd parties willing to offer replacing batteries? I fear a period of time will come when people start ripping out the insides to replace parts and they won't be able to. The battery is my prime suspect.
Suggest it to Engadget and get them to post it up on their site.
Apparently Samsung look to their comments section for feedback on their devices (their laptops anyway).

Note 2....Don't see it getting any better than this!

Ok folks.....so i just got my Note 2 yesterday. Last night i'm messing around with it and i then have this thought. Where the hell does Samsung go from here? I mean i am so pleased with this phone....but then in the back of my mind i think "Wait a sec....they are gonna come out with ANOTHER one of these next year!" And me being the tech nerd that i am i will likely get it. But seriously....WHAT else can they do? lol I bought my first Note at the beginning of the year.....so that's 2 $700+ smartphones in one year. A little ridiculous to some i'm sure.....but next year when this time rolls around Samsung is going to have to do something TRULY revolutionary to get me to switch! So what do you guys think? I LOVE this phone....just can't see it getting much better. Discuss......:good:
Better processor. Better battery. Better camera. Improved design and materials.
Dude seriously get down to earth. Dont mean to be rude of course. What i mean is there is only space for improvement and sell you updated device later on.

I do agree that the note 2 is so snappy that a faster cpu is of questionable bang/buck. Android needs to get better with multi threading.

This device may look fantastic today and i'm sure it is which is why i'm also planning on getting one as soon as possible.
However, as i upgrade every two years and not every year due to contracts new better devices released inbetween is not really a issue. There will always be better devices released, you just have to accept that fact. I'm sure Samsung has many cards up it's sleeve with new things they plan on implement in future versions of this and their other devices. Things like user experience, interface, artificial intelligence, better camera, software, input, raw power and interaction with external products. The whole experience can evolve so much more than compared to what it looks like today but these things needs time to grow slowly into what they will become.

Well they probably gonna come out eith a better processor ( exynos 5250 I believe its called based on the new A15 architecture), I know the note 2 is the fastest thing out right now but when that new exynos comes out next year, itll make this note feel like turtle speed. Samsung is gonna kill it. But I agree, yhis phone is so perfect that Im not sure what else we really need. Higher res screen and stuff like that probably. Note 2 is AWESOME!

I guess the Note III will offer the following specifications:
1. Quadcore Exynos 5250 @ 2 - 2.5 Ghz
2. 2 GB RAM
3. A 5.8-6 inch display, higher resolution
4. Multiband-LTE as standard in the GT-N7200 (i.e. the base model N7200 is an LTE device - no more 3G only) - support for US LTE together with EU LTE would be perfect
5. VoLTE
6. A 12 MP-camera, improved sensor and 1080p video recording
7. 32 and 64 GB onboard memory + microSDXC slot
8. Android 4.2(?) Key Lime Pie or 5.0 (assuming that 4.2 arrives later this month or in November and 5.0 lands in June 2013)
9. A premium body similar to this Note II concept: Note II mockup
10. Bluetooth S-Pen as standard
11. Further improved S-Pen feature set
12. Improved window mode features
Sure. For me also. It's the best ever. And I'll not shift easly.

For 1 I'd like to see the Snapdragon S4 Pro (quad-core) only because it's actually a fusion of A9 and A15 architecture (and smaller transistor size = less power leak = less heat and power use) which means better performance. Also, I'd like a much better GPU... what don't these manufacturers understand? Phones are beginning to be like PCs the bottleneck is ALWAYS the GPU nowadays... sure we have quad-core CPUs in Android phones, but all the iDevices have GPUs with almost double the performance, c'mon!

Cores alone do not a processor make.
The Exynos 5 Dual-core might turn out to be faster than the Exynos 4 Quad.
It has all to do with the architecture, design layout and fabrication process.
Two no-brainer upgrades for next year's model:
[1] 1080p screen
[2] Power-efficient CPU & SOC (low-power).
Screen size of 5.5" is good, no need to go bigger. CPU can be dual or quad core, as long as it has a newer architecture with low-power consumption.
I cant do more than 5.5 inch screen honestly. Anything bigger will be in the realm of tablets.

They can do much better
I had a look at the GN2 and I really like it for me it is the best phone on the market right now. But I will not buy it yet because I do not feel that it is so much better than my GN1.
Think that they could go even bigger and maybe get rid of more Bazel I also think that they can do so much more around multi tasking - I mean the real deal like windows. They should also marry a bigger screen to a higher Res. It would make it awesome to look at.
I also think putting in something like Pureview would not hurt.
Its not all sweetness & light..
The horrid back ground hiss that's on the S3 radio is still present here - Come on Samsung it's FM radio & it's horrid.
I get a loud crackle when moving tracks with the latest Poweramp...
They can fit a 6" screen into the current 5'5 Galaxy note size right now. It would have to be glass to glass touchscreen with no bezel (maybe some at the bottom for the buttons)
So the people complaining that the 6" phone would be too big, look at the galaxy note 1 vs galaxy 2..the screen got bigger but the overall size got slimmer

And that will be the extent of it.
Because you can make the device taller, but you can't make it wider. Even if you need two hands to use the device properly, the width has to be small enough to be held in one hand.
That is where the Note II shines.
It is the biggest phone out there right now, but people can still hold it in one hand.
I don't like screens where they use a chunk of it for on-screen buttons and use that portion as part of the screen measurement.

Galaxy S3 vs Note 2

I had the dilemma of choosing between the S3 and the note 2 for over a week, researching it on the interwebs was a pain in the a** as most comparisons offered a lot of uneducated and very biased answers. I finally decided to test both of them extensively for a couple of days, and I ended up loving and buying the note 2.
Because it was a pain to look for answers about what to get, and I saw a **** load of people with the same dilemma as me, I decided to create this brief comparison between the two.
Note: This comparison is based on the comparison of the international variants of both phones.
The screen:
The screens on both phones offer the same AMOLED technology, they offer very vibrant colors which are just a joy for every day use, and true blacks.
The differences between the displays on both phones are barely noticeable for the average user, but here's a slightly technical explanation for the differences between them. The Galaxy S3's screen adapts the pentile arrangement of pixels, the pentile arrangement supposedly saves energy with the cost of "jaggy" lines drawn on the screen, this effect is highly diluted by the high HD resolution on the 4.8 display, this is unnoticeable for the average user, but its very evident in texts. The galaxy note 2 offers samsung's newer revision of the AMOLED display, this new revision offers the traditional RGB arrangement of pixels, this gives the note's display a slight advantage over the S3's because there is no "jaginess", but the note 2's screen is at 5.5" in size, at the same resolution which hence gives a lower PPI.
In short, they both offer the same gorgeous color saturation, but some people might be offed by the Pentile screen on the S3. I personally think that if someone uses it for an extended period of time it wouldn't even be an issue, yet I personally preferred the bigger screen on the note 2.
Internals:
Processor:
Both phones offer the same quad core processor, S3 clocked at 1.4GHz, Note 2 clocked at 1.6GHz this bump offers a tiny bump in FPSs and benchmark scores, not noticeable by the average user.
Ram:
The note 2 offers 2GB of ram while the S3 offers 1GB of ram. After my extensive use of both phones I found the doubling of the RAM on the note 2 offered for fasted loading apps during multitasking, and a noticeable increase in the smoothness of the phone's workflow.
Battery:
The bigger size of the note 2 offers more space to include a 24% bigger battery compared to the S3, the bigger battery capacity on the note is a game changer for me, on normal to heavy use I got 7hours screen on time with 25hours on battery compared to 4hours 18hours on the same usage.
Portability:
Now this is the biggest question that comes to mind when it comes to picking one of the two phones, is the note 2 too big to be an everyday-use phone?
The answer is simply, no. The note 2 might give the impression that it's HUGE, but side to side next to the S3 its not that much bigger as you would expect. It's size might be an issue if you're using a bulky cover, wearing tight jeans, or you're a relatively a petite person.
But overall the size goes down to personal choice, I personally preferred the bigger screen on the Note, because I hate reading small text as I tend to read a lot on it. The bigger size WILL grow on you PRETTY QUICK.
I was very impressed by the added plus of having the S-Pen on the note, at first it I thought it was a gimmick, but now I use it a lot.
I hope this quick comparison was thorough and clear, if you think I missed something that you would like me to add, please comment below.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 with 2GB of RAM is the North American version sold with the 1.5GHz Dual-Core CPU, the International version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 has only 1GB of RAM, however, it has a 1.4GHz Quad-Core CPU which enables it to not require more RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has 2GB of RAM AND the beefed up 1.6GHz Quad-Core CPU, it is by far the supreme solution if you are looking for absolute performance bragging rights.
The benefit of the SamsungGalaxy S3 is how common it is, there are tons of companies out there that are making cases, skins, screen protectors, attachments, docks, etc. for this phone while the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is still fairly new with minimum aftermarket product options.
I'm still buying the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 regardless of how slim aftermarket supplies are, I still can't resist buying such a fast phone.
The downfall to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is for the Canadian retail price of $730 for the 16GB model, it's the same price of $730 for the 32GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 so you really need to settle those priorities out first, it took me quite some time to decide between 16GB of storage vs 0.8GHz faster CPU and 1GB more RAM.
The flaw to minimal internal storage is that your downloaded apps only work on internal storage so upgrading to a 64GB MicroSDXC is only for music, photos, and videos.
I hope this helps, I've been researching the Samsung Galaxy S3 since it was released in Canada and I've been researching the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 since it's rumours were announced in Korea shortly before September 2012.
If you are thinking that the 64GB Korean versions are the way to go be warned that the radios are completely different and only ONE version will work in Canada and JUST barely work at that. AT&T in the United States uses the same tower frequencies as Bell, Telus, and Rogers in Canada so if you are on AT&T then this phone will also work but no LTE.
Korea has 3 different versions, all of which use a completely different model number from the North American version "SGH-xxxx" or International "GT-N710x" and after researching the Korean phones, the only one that will work in Canada is the SHV-E250L, the SHV-E250K and SHV-E250U will not work, they use a 900MHz UMTS radio where as the SHV-E250L uses 850MHz (also works in 800MHz towers).
This means that the Korean 64GB Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Model Number SHV-E250L will work on Bell, Telus, Rogers, and AT&T with 3G GSM and 3G/4G UMTS but only slightly, rather then auto switching to a secondary 4G UMTS frequency it'll drop connection to the lower GSM 3G frequency which means this phone will only be GSM 3G for the larger portion of use and when you are close to towers you will have 4G using the ONE radio frequency of 850MHz/800MHz. This also means it can NOT use LTE radio frequencies so it is only 4G.
Best bet is to just bite the bullet chose between a faster phone or more space and buy decided on that and that only, both phones do all of the same features so there is no "better" phone but rather which is more for your needs, do you game on your phone? Do you need the faster processor? Do you multitask lots and need more RAM? or are you a storage junkie and need 32GB for all of the lesser hardware demanding apps? Maybe you don't want a 64GB MicroSDXC and you want more space or music on the internal storage or for recording lots of 1080p videos? Take some time to really think this out because when you're spending a hefty bundle on a phone like this the last thing you wanna do is regret not getting the other one
The RAM makes a huge difference. To me its one of the most impirtant aspects of Note2.
Hope we'll see Note3 with 4 gig!

And price isn't a variable here because XDA users range from around the world and price varies a lot from place to place... Like where I live, a brand new unlocked N7100 note 2 is $560 my relative in cali paid 670 for the exact same phone

Thanks so much for this. I am too in the same dilemma. Now for the low tech question;
Which one of this got a lanyard hole built around it? Its a life saver for me most time especially in the toilet!
Also hard to justify the price difference between those two @@ Note 2 is expensive, which in my country its around 25-35% more expensive contract free, so I dont know how 25% price bump can justify the screen and the ram
Can get a full IPS Dell 24" monitor for that price difference... (thats how my mind works lol)
My N7100 (the international version) has the lanyard hole, don't know about the S3 though, never searched for the hole
But trust me, the difference between them is huge.
You get double the RAM, more screen estate, more battery and the best AMOLED yet.
I've gone this route and i'm sure as hell loving it!

When I bought my note the price difference was around $90 which I thought was worth it.
The screen and RAM bump makes a HUGE difference for me at least. The note 2, although having a lower screen DPI then the S3, lacks the rather ugly pentile arrangement which makes its details finer, and text looks much better on the note as compared to the S3. The bigger screen size is gentler on the eyes, and I have noticed that the screen is brighter on the note. The RAM makes multitasking noticeably faster, and there is a noticeable increase in overall performance over the S3(because of the fact that the it doesn't have to empty the RAM as often as the S3, so it doesn't have to reprocess most of the information like the S3).
As for other pros of the Note 2 over the S3, my note 2 lasts about 48hours of on time with 6-8 hours screen on with wifi/3G on under normal to heavy usage, this is phenomenal for people who travel a lot. The S-pen is pretty cool, offers a bit more functionality.
As for the cons, after using the Note for 2months, I miss carrying a smaller phone, I'm always worried about dropping the phone, but getting used to it sloooooowly.
It does not have a lanyard hole, although I recommend you buy a decent cover the comes with one.

The Galaxy S3's screen adapts the pentile arrangement of pixels, the pentile arrangement supposedly saves energy with the cost of "jaggy" lines drawn on the screen, this effect is highly diluted by the high HD resolution on the 4.8 display, this is unnoticeable for the average user, but its very evident in texts. screen may be larger with same resolution, but due to RGB matrix it has more subpixels. 50% more subpixels to be exact. so if you work it out, the subpixel density ends up being higher on the note 2, which is noticeable to most people who have used both.
correct me if im wrong, but i think the GPU on the note 2 is also slightly higher clocked.
galaxy s3 battery is 2100mah. galaxy note 2 battery is 3100mah. 3100mah/2100mah = 47% bigger battery, not 24%.

Well yea, transition from pentile to RGB makes the screen more beautiful and crispier even after the relatively big DPI drop due to the bump in the screen size.
I am using both phones side by side everyday. Practically I prefer the smaller S3 which fits into my pocket.
I will asked my wife to carry my N2 in her handbag or else I leave it at home. I had my N2 screen damaged
the last time I carry it in my tight jeans. It is too inconvenient to hand carry it in my palm all the time and
made me look like a flashy gadget freak.
The S3 display looks more crisp and brighter. But the N2 is bigger.
The S3 sounds better. The N2 speaker gets distorted at the highest level.
The S3 battery drains faster compared to my N2. But I use the S3 more than the N2 to make and receive calls.
The S3 is lighter even to be hand carry for the whole day and it does not pull your pocket towards gravity.
The S3 lacks the S-pen. But I do my work on my Wacom Cintiq instead of the N2.

Bros, why two contradicting info? different variant also got different with the lanyard hole? haha.
anyway yeah thanks to u guys i think im skewed towards Note 2. I dont like wearing covers (its a big enough phone already! + complete disrespect for the phone designer lol, why pay for a beautiful design to cover it up) but might force to if it dont have one. I certainly dislike phone without lanyard hole, its a necessary design! I blame the ever-popular iphone to start the hipster no lanyard hole trend.
That or maybe just get the damn Acro S.
The only thing I can think of that looks like a lanyard holder on my international note2 is the cover over the speaker on the back. Is this what you mean? Because if it is then its part of the back cover so would be pretty useless...
