Goodbye my beloved Note users. It's been a great journey. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

I was here since the dawn of the Note.
People gawked at the idea of a 5.3" phone.
It didn't made sense to them.
It looked stupid they said.
It's definitely a Dead on Arrival they said.
Look at where we are now.
It sold plenty of millions.
I was here since the high & lows of the Note.
I never forget the first time I looked at that gorgeous screen.
I never forget how clever and useful the S-Pen was.
I was excited when the first test build for CM9 came.
I never forget the first Chinese leak for ICS on the Note.
I will never forget the sheer number of bricks due to Samsung incompetence.
I never forget the look of my face when the official ICS came out.
Gingerbread UI on Ice Cream Sandwich. A major disaster.
It seems like yesterday when nobody actually believed that TouchWiz 5.0 was coming to the Note.
I had to do all the convincing and from there we got the first leak.
I will never forget the frustration of the devs that Samsung become a hypocritical ***** and wouldn't give us the Exynos docs & sources.
Some of you know me in the past when I created some wonderful ROM's and in the process some controversy.
It's been a great and a wonderful journey.
I'm moving to the One.
Goodbye.

The One ?
Well then, see you around after some time mate !

bye, mate and good luck...the One? What holds me back is the battery...and the fact you can't even replace it with a better one (kind of iphonish, isn't it?)! But look and feel is gorgeous - lovely phone!

Got the z with the L. Was a note 1 user for 2years. Thers high n lows with note1.most of the time it gave me flashes of throwing it out of the window. I would say nothing can beat note 1 for its camera and screen clarity.
Cant wait for the 'one'
and now im using sony zl. Pretty cool phone i would say, lasted for 2days on single charge (moderate use). No laggy issues at all. Solid build and Smooth....

[VIDEO] Premium Suite for the NOTE with Ice Cream Sandwichf

Just watched it! It's amazing!!! And I share it for you to enjoy. And to love your Note more and more while waiting for the upgrade:
Simply amazing! Even much more then I ever expected. ICS is coming soon regarding to not only rumors but to an official commercial video from Samsung itself. And it is not just ics or angry birds launch but even further with all Spen capability improvements integrated into brand new system. Samsung rocks! I can't wait to flash it. Fell in love with NOTE once again

Not sure 'Q2' is soon... it might have been bumped 3 months... i would have preferred 'early q2' at least...
Q2 is when? April? Say yes Sammy.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
looks kinda impressing I hope that it is going to be worth waiting...
Yessssssss...
Looks promising.. Let's hope it will come in april.. Q2 sounds longer..
Sent from my GT-N7000
I agree. It does look promising. It's a major update. It was that worth for Samsung to release a tease video about it.
Was posted this morning:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559130
You know what? I take back all of my anger regarding ICS being pushed back and having touchwiz over it.
To me, touchwiz is just an aesthetic matter (and not to mention not that bad of a launcher anyway).
However, I was really starting to get worried that there wouldn't be any extra spen functionality.
Hats of to Samsung for doing more than making the S pen just a gimmick, and leaving us with an oversized GSII.
(Besides, we can always use another launcher and/or code new roms from what we get in this new release)"
I'll tell you guys this much though- might as well wait for as long as we should, because it looks like after this update, it might be the last major thing that we get on this phone.
Think about it- with the GSIII coming, as well as the spec sheet having been out for the next-gen note for a while, probably 6-8 months later they will be capitalizing on the success of the first note.

I totally agree so much major update seems worth the wait. I'm settled down off my anger for ics has been delayed for good after watching the video. Unlike some other people here i use Smemo apps frequently and Spen spesific updates are as big deal as ics update to me. It's also been a nice suprise as nobody was expecting such update. I hope they figured out some ways that Smemo data to be synced on the cloud "automatically" with the update

Total hearsay, but this was released many months ago. http://www.unwiredview.com/2011/12/23/samsung-gt-n8010-could-be-a-next-generation-galaxy-note/
Why would it be surprising to see a quad-core note with more ram? That's really what the SGSIII is to the SII
sorry for ot. I promise not to derail the thread any longer.
Just another excuse for a delay. This is bull****.
They could have just made these apps available in Samsung App Store after they release ICS to us.

But however i will wait since i still love my note and waiting couple months won't bother me..
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I would rather wait... if it means we're gonna get a fully baked ROM rather than the half-baked stuff that's often released. I hope for its users sake and for its reputation, that Samsung use this extra time to release something that is fully polished. Guaranteed, they will get lots of bad press if they don't.
Sent from my 32GB GT-N 7000 using xda premium
Well I am as pissed as anyone else here about the delay but I really can't understand the folks "threatening" to replace the Note with some other phone... do you see any alternative to the Note????
I don't see ANY, not by a long shot.
Personally, I would keep the Note even there was no ICS update at all, it's simply a matter of it being the ONLY REAL USEFUL AND USABLE SMARTPHONE out there.
Besides, on the LB1 ROM runs so well I haven't even updated it to LC1 yet (chronic lack of time..)

okay so tomorrow I am getting the Samsung GS3....i know..big problem .. With all honesty do you think I should take the gs3 tomorrow, or stick with my DHD..This community just looks so promising.

Telling you this, Samsung isn't better. I was with Galaxy S before, it was even worse: dev stops at 2.3.6 Value pack. And it was a legendary phone, consider its 15 millions sales.
HTC though, has made a huge backstep I believe. Rather they publicised not to release ICS in the first place, by denying it they portray themselves as biggest liar. No on likes a liar, that's clear.

My future phones will all be NEXUS / pure Google devices, regardless of OEM.
Id even buy another HTC, but only if its a NEXUS / pure Google device.
You must be out of your mind even considering this. If the update for the DHD doesn't come out (and most probably it won't) we may never have a fully working ics or jb rom. CM10 nightlies for the s3 are just around the corner.
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
My advice is, don't go for GSIII, instead pick up Galaxy Nexus to ensure you will always got the latest OS.
Are you expecting Samsung to update GSIII when the next version of Jelly Bean came out? I don't think so. Take a look at GSII, eventough the hardware is more than enough for (perhaps) next 2 years or so, Samsung probably have no plan to upgrade it to Jelly Bean.
HTC One series? No comments on this one. Enough is enough, DHD ICS fiasco is enough for me to stay away from this company's products in the future.

[Opinion] Who do you think "stole the show" today?

Thursday, August 30, 2012
XDA Members & I9300 Owners:
Here we are... at the end of yet another long statistics and promises-laden tech event. The devices were many; the showstoppers few. Yet here we are... flipping through XDA as usual. What devices caught your eye? What devices surprised you, and what devices did not? Will any of you be jumping ship from the I9300; and if you will, are any of you valued developers? How have the events of the past 24 hours changed your foreseeable future? More importantly, how do you think the past day has changed XDA's foreseeable future? Do you see high-traffic camera threads in XDA's future? Do you see Windows Phone 8's clean build usurping the DIY appeal of Android? What are your thoughts?
--Edward (Mister_Mxyzptlk)
P.S. - Keep it development-oriented. No preference superiority battles.... please.

And for me Galaxy note II stole the show, and yeah Ill be jumping ship to that..And knowing how much Note sold, iam sure there will be lots of good devs there as well But I will probably wait a month or two..

I agree with most of that. The Note always attracts attention. However, even with as much of a hit as it was, I don't see myself buying one. I already have an N7000, and I'm not too fond of the switch from 1280x800 to 1280x720 or the lower DPI. The N7000 was already right on the border between visible pixels and retina-size pixels.
On another note, did anybody notice the 7" gaming tablet from Archos? They always make the crappiest stuff. Then, out of nowhere, they announce this kick-ass beast. I'll be getting one of those for sure!

That looks like the S1!
Nokia must be panicking now after the specs of the windows phone were released. It's an awesome package. Did you see the back of the device? It's beautiful (the front not so much, as already mentioned). Why the GSIII doesn't have that quality is beyond me. Metal over plastic every time. It's a no brainer. It oozes quality.
In the end though, it's a windows phone. That in itself will mean the development of the device (from here and professional developers) will be limited.
Still love the back though.

And after more than 3 years my Galaxy S is still the best!

I was in a store today and tried all kinds of the new smartphones out there. And I walked out giggling. Damn, after 3 years there is no phone out there, even with their quad core this super Gpu that, which i would take over my Galaxy s.
The S2 and S3 are impressive, but are big as hell, also quite expensive. The Nexus phones always impressed me, but they don't take external sd cards or swappable battery.
I never liked HTC phones either.
And with the latest CM10 and semaphore kernel my old Galaxy s still can compete with the latest products and still looks beautiful and even better than the new stuffs.
And don't get me started to compare it with Iphones.
Talking about durability, my little boy thrown my Galaxy S couple hundreds times on the floor, and it's still ain't broke yet. Meanwhile i saw tens of broken iphones. Funny that the people normally still walk around with a broken display, because they can't afford to buy another overpriced phone.
You can say I'm a Galaxy s fanboy, and after 3 years it didn't change. That's something isn't it?
Thank you all devs for making this phone such a fun thing to play with!
From Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, ICS and now Jelly Bean... it was a heck of ride.
same here, ive had my s1 for nearly 3 years, not used much for last year as i've had an s2 and now an s3 but the s1 gotta be better than both, kids been playing with it for last year but still in great condition and not too much difference from an s2 or an s3

I had mine since the first day it was released in the UK at Carphone Warehouse in August 2010. Coming off the G1 all it took was to see it switched on in the shop to indulge in a bit of impulse buying.
Upgraded to a Galaxy Note 5.3" six months ago and then only used the S to play with CM builds. Sold my Note a couple of weeks ago to get the cash for the Nexus 4 and been back to my trusted S and I cant believe how decent it feels for an everyday phone running CM10 nightlies.
As much as I liked the Note I just never got attached to it like I did with the S.

I couldn't agree more. I bought my Galaxy S second hand more than a year ago just to see what Android was like and I have been happy since. Off-course it needs some tweaking but mine is running very fast at the moment (Semaphore kernel + X-Bean 3.0 + script). I did try other Android phones from friends and in shops but their overall size is just too big and they seem very fragile. If my phone would fail I really don't know what phone currently on the market I'd go for. Quadcore sounds nice but the screens are just too big.
Thanks to the developers the phone is still alive...without them it wouldn't have been the same...I would have bought a new phone by now if it wasn't for them. :good:

Samsung - inspired by nature.

You know how Samsung say they're inspired by nature? One thing's rather peculiar. I don't recall nature being bloated, ugly and sluggish. Or maybe they specifically mean stink bugs, ticks, weeds, etc.. Rather peculiar, don't you think?

Deciding which phone will be my bext is hard, though, because I'm considering either the Xperia Z, HTC One or the next Nexus. Maybe not the HTC after all because I don't feel like messing with locked down bootloaders (unless they're nexii because it's a simple fastboot command to lock/unlock at your will)

I'm quite happy with my samsung. Had the S II before this S III and I guess I like the multitude of roms available. Sure, Samsung needs to get their Exynos sources out in the wild but even without them AOSP, Cyanogenmod and AOKP aren't that bad. Used those type of Roms for a while and never thought I would flash a Samsung based rom again... Until a few weeks ago. You could say there's alot of bloatware in the stock rom and you're absolutely right. On the other hand, some bloat is really "useful". For me personally I really like showing photos and videos directly on my TV without having to open a third party DLNA app. I like how easy it is to root and unroot everything back to stock. I like my external SD card, removable battery. I like how their phones feel in my hand. My girlfriend has an Xperia S and although I kinda like the design, it just doesn't feel right in the hand nor are the menu and back button easy to touch. I think the S4 with a Snapdragon or Exynos with sources will be the perfect phone. Gonna hold on to my S III for the time being or till I have one of my impulsive buying sprees.
Personally, I don't really "get" the Nature bit. Bit of a Marketing thing, differentiation and all that USP stuff.
I'm actually quite happy with the S3. I've a later one, mind. I've never had any funny reboots whatever firmware I used, never had any marks or cracks and the battery life on a Stock or Stock based ROM is rather good.
My primary likes are:
Good sound, great FM radio (I use this a lot due to a serious walking regime - I'm probably of a similar age to one of you other guys). The call quality and general signal sensitivity (GPS/FM/Cell/WiFi/BT) are really good. The notification LED is a real boon too - not having to wake the phone to see missed activity or see something come in during a meeting is fantastic.
The screen is truly oleophobic AND scratch-resistant - I hate screen protectors - they're hard to fit properly and look sh1t quickly.
They hold their value well if looked after cosmetically.
In a word then it is reliable - and eminently modifiable.
The things I dislike are:
The screen is just not bright enough outside even without direct sunlight. Hopelessly dim. This is the biggy for me - walking whilst outside and trying to read anything is just a joke.
The Samsung software is cobbled together, and feels so. Fortunately I remove most of it, but the core is still there... and their non-open source approach and lack of engagement with their development community is a "shame".
A soft gel case is a necessity or you will drop it. I never have. Touch wood.
The accessories supplied are 2nd rate. Belies the cost of the phone.
Replacing the screen and digitizer as a unit (the only real way to do it) is f.expensive (I did a mate's - £150)
I would buy another Samsung, I had the SGS2 and that was good for its time too. My wife's 2 yo Omnia 7 is also reliable and she has had no issues with that either. My eldest daughter's Xperia S has started losing pixels. My youngest daughter's HTC ONE S is totally stock and has randomly rebooted from new for no obvious reason. And this is the 4th Amazon BNIB replacement. It looks like crap too after a few weeks as the black finish is brittle.
Problem is, what else is there?
S4 - unknown quantity (might not have an FM Radio, might be Snapdragon or not), £600 and being an early adopter means beta tester.
HTC ONE - even if you can get hold of one, too early to tell if they are reliable or durable and the modding potential is not great.
Nexus 4 - No FM radio and LG not the world's best phone designer
Sony Z - good but odd in the hand and screen dim - massive development potential though thanks to Sony.
LG Optimus G - not readily available, too expensive, no FM radio and no development community and Billy Bland.
Note 2 - get real. S3 on acid with a silly stick, has its own identity crisis.
I would like the OPPO Find 5 - but not available and may not have an FM Radio or LED notification. Or development potential. I have an OPPO Blu-Ray player that is utterly fantastic. For those that remember, like a Nakamichi tape deck style quality.

With the current discussions going on in the general thread (eels, lube, etc.) I don't think many dare entering, or even stay after they've entered so I thought I'd liven the place up a bit.
