Google Play Music Issues - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
So today after college, I decided to sit and organize my music. After a grueling 45 minutes on Mp3tag I accomplished the task only to find that on transferring the songs to my phone, I wasn't able to view them categorically on Play Music.
Although the music is sorted correctly, on expanding the tabs of any particular genre/album all that is shown is "Music" instead of a list of songs that belong that sub category. On clicking on the "Music" tab, it just displays ALL my songs.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
However, if I add to play list it will correctly create a play list with only the songs that belong to that sub category.
Hope I have explained myself clearly.
Any help will be appreciated :highfive:

Verify your song tags are correct on Google Music's website. That's the ID3 data has on hand, so any mistakes/errors seen on your decide will be reflected there.

Are you sure Google Play can even do categories? I level all my music volumes using Mp3Gain and those changes aren't carried over into Google Play even though they are made to the id3tag.

Didn't quite get you. But, I should be able to assign any genre I want to any song I'd like and Play should sort them accordingly.

Well, I assume so because if I long press on the artists name and then press the "add to playlist" button, it will correctly add only the songs belonging to that artist to the play list. I'm just having a problem viewing songs under a particular category.
For example, as shown in the above pics, if I expand a particular genre or artist all that's displayed is under is "Music" (which upon clicking just takes me to a page which will display ALL my music) instead of displaying music belonging only to that particular sub category.
EDIT:
Is it like this for all of you'll? If that's the case then I can conclude that Play Music is inherently like that.

What I mean is I don't think Google Play can categorize music in the way you want it to, its too rudimentary. Myself I have problems with it even putting all my songs into the playlists I have created on my pc, only about 1/3 of the songs show up in any playlist. I just have not had a good experience using Google Play and went back to storing music locally and using PlayerPro. Though I now have a lot less music stored than I did when I had 32 GB of sdcard storage.

Go to music.google.com and fix the tags there. Their is a tag field for "Artist" and "Album Artist" so the "Various Artists" albums can be grouped together. You can "Group Edit" depending the view you are in.
P.S. You can get most album art from Amazon.

Improving the HTC Diamond Audio Manager

The one letdown with the HTC Touchflo3D Diamond audio manager which nobody seems to have addressed yet, is that it attempts to load EVERY track that you sync to your phone whenever you go to the "Music" tab.
So in my case where I have uploaded 7 albums, when I scroll to the "Music" tab, it takes about 5 seconds before displaying anything as it loads ALL the tracks from ALL the albums that I have sync'd to date.
Surely a better way for managing media would be JUST to display the albums instead of all tracks within the albums? You could then do one of the following:
- select the album that you want to play (which then loads all tracks within the selected album)
- select which albums you want to load by default (which loads all the tracks within the selected albums, which is kind of what it does now except it does it for ALL albums)
- create a playlist of tracks across multiple albums (which is the one thing you CAN do)
This seems so obvious that I am tempted to think that I am missing something. Is there a hidden config option somewhere that says "load albums" instead of "all tracks"?
Does anyone know of a way to do this?
i'm hoping for an updated music tab in manila 2.0. but who knows when that is?!?
I agree...
The music side is a disappontment so far with this phone.
My main gripe is the fact that scrolling up and down through albums looks great but when you get to an album with multiple tracks you have to scroll through all the tracks to get to the next album.
I know you can sort via artist etc. but for speed, you generally just want to flick through albums to find the one you want.
I also notice that flicking left and right just scrolls through the main phone options, this could be used to view tracks etc.
Its really simple, just copy the ipod interface:
Up and down scrolls through albums until click..
Click plays the album, right flick shows the tracks..
Some attention to this area would make this the best phone on the market.
(I actually have the touch pro but I assume the interface is the same)
Bandito.
i started to use pocket player instead of audiomanager.
i like it, but misses a few things.
pp its more heavy, but in my opinios much beter.
Same here, switched to Pocket Player 3.7.
Another downside of Audio Manager is that you cannot open a folder directly, and at times you need it in case you have uploaded your older tracks which lack ID tags.
Thanks for the reply guys, that player is superb.
All it need now is the nice scrolling album art option and its perfect!!
Is there a way I can replace the touch-flo audio app with pocket player instead??
Thanks.

I haven't found a way to do this yet but in the meantime I have created a TouchFLO style skin for Pocket Player:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
You can grab it from here.
Let me know if you like it, if anyone figures out a way to launch PP instead of HTC's audio player, let me know!

Actually, there is a newer version of S2P available here (0.50 - now G-Sensor support for Diamond):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417511
However, I find it far too slow to be useable and it is severly lacking in options. I can't fault Pocket Player (except it's not free), for me it is worth every penny especially with fantastic crossfade and gapless support and Shoutcast playback which no other player (to my knowledge) can do.

I could not agree with you more on this. Should be a way to swipe through albums (ala coverflow from iPod) rather than having to go through each and every track of an album to get to the next! Please update this HTC.
on touchflo 2d on my polaris i managed to get sp2 to open when the music tab is selected by changing the .exe name from s2p.exe to AudioManager.exe and using total commander to copy the ammended folder to windows.
tried the same on the diamond but no joy, anyone any ideas? will try looking at the manilla exe with a hex editor but think the above cheat would be best if anyone could point me in the direction of the correct exe

sussed this, bit of a dirty fix but better then audio manager
rename s2p.exe to AudioManager_Eng.exe (in the case of my rom) copy the folder contents to windows and when you select the music tab, it opens s2p
much better with the newer versions being gsensor enabled

New TF3D Player Question

there is any way to display on the tf3d player the albums and then click on them to enter the album playlist? i didn't find any
i belive that would be nice and useful

no ideea?
nobody?
i'm afraid you cant do this sorry.
that's too bad
it seems that touch flo is so limited and has so many bugs...
cool design but lacks the basic things
they could learn something else from iphone not just the marketing s**t
i like my thd, but i found it the most buggy and difficult to set and tweak phone that i ever own

I'm not sure, I understand the problem...
I go to the TF3D Player.
Tap "Library"
Tap "Albums"
Tap the album, I want to see.
- and right there... The list of songs on the specific album opens!
Tap any of the songs, and it plays.
nope, it's not that
i want to have on my tf3d music player screen (the big "rectangle" where the album art picture is displayed) album arts (pictures) of albums and not for songs
i want to flip finger and to change albums, like s2p does, and when i press or click on the desired album, to open and the to flip through songs, like it is the situation now
i hope you understand what i mean
I can see what you mean, and yes I was dissappointed that wasn't possible upon first inspection. But Henrikmand has explained how to overcome this.
I don't think TF3d is very buggy. It's the best WinMo skin/shell I've ever seen.
no, Henrikmand just explain how tf3d player works
but, in my opinion, this is a very complicated way and for sure doesn't do what i asked
and, yes, tf3d is extremely buggy and difficult to set and tweak, despite the beautiful looks
just another example concerning, again, the tf3d music player:
in order to have songs displayed in the same album, it is a must that each song has to have the same album name written within tag
for most of other players, basic ones, it is enough to through all songs within the same folder and this is it
and examples could continue! just take a look at this forum and see how many questions, issues, tweaks, tricks and so on are discussed here
this is the best barometer

What? What other player can identify a song's album if it has no ID3 tag for it?

where did get that from? i have my music very well organized
maybe my english is not so good
what i mean is that if you take, for instance, a compilation like best of or golden, whatever, in most of the cases, the tags oft the songs will have the original album name and not "best off" name
then in your tf3d player you will have several albums, despite the fact that you have only 1 folder with all those songs.
other players, will take into consideration the name of your folder, and the same album art if you add one within the folder, and will not split your folder (best off album) into several albums
do you understant me or i am to confuse?
TF3D is like Winamp and WMP, (I think protocol's name is UMPC) and like most of the mp3 players (Creative Zen, iTouch, ...), it's based on tags. So it was also hard for me, but if you want to keep on using TF3D player (which is not perfect but at least is user-friendly) you have to reorganize your personal music library by checking the tags validity with WMP for example... For a compilation, tag the tracks with the same album name (Something's Soundtrack) and the same artist (like Soundtrack or The compilation name if the tracks are from differents artists), and it will be perfect in the TF3D (though you could loose artist information, but you can't put it in the track name anyway).
'Hope it helps!
Isn't the guy on this pic able to flick through his albums or am I wrong here.

Technically, yeah, he can flick through the albums. But only by flicking through the songs.
So if there's 32 songs in that album, he has to flick through each and every one of the 32 songs to browse the next album. There seems to be no way for us to flick through the album in album art mode and then subsequently select the album to browse the songs.
Was kinda surprised at the way they set it up. Not as user friendly or efficient as it should be...

HTC Music app

I've been trying to get album artwork to show up in the HTC music app but cannot figure it out. I've put a folder.jpg in the folder containing the music, even embedded the artwork into the mp3, but for whatever reason, some albums will not show any artwork.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks in advance.
UPDATE:
Downloaded MP3Tagger Pro from the Market, and that let me add artwork to the ID3 tag on the phone.

I have tried mp3 tagger and album art finder - both add the album art but strangely enough when I reboot my phone the album covers are missing. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm using "3" (cubed) for a music player app. That actually downloads and lets you select album art. I was also frustrated getting ID3 tag images to show correctly, so I'm just using a different music app.
I like 3, but right now, it only sees the music you have on your SD card, and not in the phone memory.
I use the HTC music app, and it imported all my album art in just fine. I just include a .jpg in the folder with the music, and it auto sets it to the album art.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem with my phone. Any suggestions??
Hi,
I am the developer of mp3tagger pro. If you used the mp3tagger pro option "easy album art finder" (which is doing the same thing as album art grabber) the album art is not persisted to the files itself but only to the internal android media database. This would be erased eg. after a firmware reset (it is strange that you are experiencing this after a normal restart though).
And this is why you have the additional "load by album" / "load by directory" option in mp3tagger pro. This will save the results to the files itself (the same way pc based tagger software would do it) and they will survive all kinds of wiping / resetting of your phone.
Another issue with HTC Music app
I have not experienced the album art issue, but one issue I have noticed is with the "default playlist." I'm not sure if it is a bug or what, but I normally keep my music on "shuffle all." After a certain amount of time of not using the music app, then next time I open it, it reverts back to wanting to play the first 100 tracks in my library. I then have to click back on the library list and choose "shuffle all" again to get the rest of my music to load up.
My BT is fully integrated with my car stereo and this one little thing is the only thing causing me to have to pull my phone out of my pocket when I get in my car.
Has anyone else noticed this when using the HTC music app? On my Droid, using the standard 2.1 Music app It would always just pickup playback where I left off.

How to add albumart

I don't know if this has been added somewhere, but i searched everywhere for it and couldn't find one so i made a little tutorial on how to put album art into your music using itunes (on windows 7).
if your music has album art already you can tell by looking at the icon below the window.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
if not then it will look like this
so now lets choose that album and drag the folder into your itunes like so...
then when in itunes right click the album you just added and choose "Get Album Artwork" and the image will appear, but if you don't have an itunes account (like me) and couldn't get it you would have to go online and search for the album cover on google images. when you find your image right click it and click on "Copy Image"
after that go into your itunes and right click the album and click "Get Info" (i think it will ask something like "you sure you want to continue blah blah blah" just tick the box that says "don't ask again" and click yes. if it doesn't then you probably already did.) when the window pops up there will be 4 tabs (info, video, sorting, & options) make sure you're on the Info tab which you will probably end up at by default. on the bottom right you'll see "Artwork" with a big empty box. on that empty spot right click it and click "Paste" then click "Ok" a progress bar will show up copying the image to each song in that album.
now plug in your samsung vibrant and go to your music folder(or where ever you put your music). i like to keep things organize so i made a music folder>artist folder>album folder. so if i had one artist with multiple albums that i like i can just drag that album to the artist folder. now from itunes drag the album into whatever folder you have on your samsung vibrant or sdcard and thats it! and when thats done check if that albumart icon appears on the bottom left just to be sure.
now on your phone drag the notification bar to "Turn off USB storage" and go into your music player to see if it embedded the albumart.
i know its not the fastest way but if your ocd like me and wants every song to have an albumart then this should do the trick. i've tried doing it on windows media player but it was giving me a headache and itunes was way faster. the good thing about it is that you wont have any album covers saved into your computer or phone because it will save you a lot of space for people like me who have a ton of music in their harddrive. hopefully this helped a lot and PLEASE if i am missing something, if theres a faster way, or if theres already a thread on how to do this please tell me and i will delete this post. I know theres an app to grab albumart and all but to me personally this is faster and i've done it to over 100 albums in minutes. it will save you a lot of time in the future.
I just use an app on my windows PC called mp3tag. It lets me scrape id3 tag info and album art from Amazon.com and it's easy to use. I've been using it for a couple of years and I love it.

My Music Files have images like this:
And in Music Player, dont show images.
What Version of Music have you? and i dont found a configuration menu in Music Player.
If you see in this image:
The name of song says .mp3, then dont read a tag, only a name of file?
Thanks and regards!
Music Player have only two options, show lyrics or show equalizer, nothing more.
