I'm missing something very important..right? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I very carefully followed the "newb" thread.
I've installed 2.08 HardSPL, an d MagLDR v113 and my phone has the 12 option menu.
However when I go to click "DAF.exe" (in admin mode, win7 64bit) it just gives me an error.
-----------
Error Description: Config load failed.
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (725)
Error Description: CONFIG: can't open config file
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (304)
----------
Now I see the sentence below...in multiple places..like I should know what this is..but I think I'm missing something very important
Run DAF.exe (Right Click and Run As Administrator if you have Vista or Windows 7) in the folder you extracted the image to and follow the intructions on your pc to start flashing
Click to collapse
What IMAGE is this referring to??
I have a feeling I'm supposed to do something when running DA.exe..it tells me 'readme.txt not found' on the 3rd page so I must be missing this image.
Is this something really stupid I'm missing? This is a new process for me (although I flashed this HD2 a zillion times with Windows ROMs in the past) and clearly I'm supposed to have put MaglDR inside of another folder with something else??
I downloaded the NexusHD2-JellyBean-CM10_V1.3a ROM but there's no image file or anything..help!!

You missed writing a descriptive title
Can I have a look at that "newb" guide of yours?
Also, from there you can just download the "HD2 Toolkit" and install the recovery from there.

thanks! I was using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
I am looking for the toolkit now.

If you're having problems with the toolkit, you can follow this guide starting from step #7. Don't forget to read the important notice at the top should you choose to follow it.
Good luck.

this suddenly got a whole lot more complicated...
i thought once i had HARDSPL 2.08, the 2.15.50.14 radio and MAGLDR v113, I could just double-click a ROM image or something.

Once you have all of that, you need to flash CWM recovery and then the ROM. It's a lot easier than you would think, provided that you read everything properly. Just follow the guide in my sig (a more updated version of the guide you linked) and you'll be fine.

thanks! i just flashed to the 'stock' LEO ROM..i see..the DAF.exe is generally in the directory w/ the image you download..but I'm guessing that process is old.
I will read your guide and see about getting CWM and a newer ROM now that i know it has a 'base' ROM and is talking to the PC ok.
THank you so much! I just want to put a stable version of JB on here and see if this phone still has some life left..its been in a drawer for months.

THANK YOU!!!! i'm running the NexusHD2 jellybean ROM now as well!! that was easy.
PS i also have a nexus 4 so we have similar phone setups.
the HD2 lasted until i got my nexus back in november.

Is there a file called FLASH.CFG in the folder where DAF.EXE is located? You may have to create one - there should be at least a sample file included.
If you need a sample file downloads this one but be sure to modify it to suit the ROM you want to install.
flash.cfg - 134 bytes

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure... (via Tapatalk)

My suggestion would be to download the ROM again and reflash it.
Most likely you are trying to flash a ROM that requires Haykuro's SPL (which changes the MTD partition sizes), and it's running out of space during the installation.

Thanks. I'll try his then.
I tried to install JACHero's rom, and it says here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522076 that he recommends Cyanogen's 1.2 recovery, which i have currently, and it still didn't work, same error, except instead of line 19, it was line 12.
What am i doing wrong if i used the correct SPL from the post and the recovery...?
Give this a shot, we'll just double check everything, and try again, so as to rule out these possibilities. Don't skip any of these steps!
1st - Shut off your phone. Boot it back on, but into the SPL (camera+power buttons). Read the second line from the top, and the fourth line from the top. They will be your SPL and radio image, respectively. The second line should read "HBOOT-1.33.2005 (DREA10000)" and the fourth "RADIO-2.22.19.26I". Just to double check you have the ones needed if you are trying to install any hero rom and a few others too.
2nd - Delete the update.zip off of your sdcard (and computer, if it's there too) and re-download it. Put it back on your sdcard and rename to "update.zip". Make sure you have your file extensions un-hidden, so that its not actually "update.zip.zip".
3rd - Make sure you are wiping (alt+w) from inside your recovery loader, before you are applying the new update.zip (alt+s).
Unsolved Mystery, Case Closed.
Thanks for the help everyone. I have all the updated stuff, i guess my G1 just doesn't like the other roms.
I have no complaints with Cyanogens Rom, in fact, i like it very much. I think i will just keep it how it is.
Again, thanks everyone for your help.

[Q] S-OFF problem! Seriously need help

I have flashed a ROM yesterday : RUU_Vision_hTC_Asia_HK_CHT_1.34.708.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.18_M2_release_154602_signed.exe
Software ver. : 1.34.708.3
Today I want to flash back to Villian ROM..... but then found that the bootloader has already returned to S-ON.
So I tried the normal way to make it S-OFF. Mine is Desire-Z HK version. So I used the wpthis-Z.ko and hbooteng.img (as taught by someone in the forum here) to run.
Everything goes fine until "insmod /data/local/wpthis-Z.ko". It came out as "Failed - exec format error". Then the result is still S-ON.
I also tried wpthis-pre-OTA.ko and wpthis-OTA.ko just to take a bet, but the result still failed - exec format error
No idea which step or files went wrong........
Can anyone teach me how to correct this? I would really love to go back to the Villian ROM.
Use the new Uber-root method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857390
You don't need to put that eng hboot on any more, unless you really want to (you'll still be able to flash custom ROMs without it, because you'll still have S-OFF).
Thanks Stevie....but I still have problem in using this method :
1) It said "unzip the file into any directory". Would that be directory on PC or sdcard?
2) I have followed exactly the code instruction but when get into step "./gfree", it returns with a lot of parameters which I have no idea what it meant.....And the result is -
"Patching and backing up partition 7...
Error opening copy file
#"
Did I do something wrong?

I think I found the reason of being unsuccessful......
Just found from another thread and realized that I have missed one very very important step : Make sure your computer is not mounting your phone's sdcard - in which I did not see this remark from qpop's instruction....
Thanks Stevie again for the first hint. Without this hint I will not be able to learn this.....

[Q] ANSWERED!! NAND.. can you change kernels?

Hi guys,
Is it possible to change the kernel of a nand build at all?
I am an Extended Battery user and find only NAND builds with Hastarins kernel work at all..
Is there a way of mixing and matching Kernels with builds?

Yes
Just made something for you, note: haven't tested it:
Kernel Theiving
How to:
- Install Nand version which has the kernel you want.
- Run "extract_kernel.bat"
- Install Nand version you like, and want to keep.
- Run "install_kernel.bat".
- Et voila!
Now, you only have to use "install_kernel.bat" if you flash another rom.
Note: You need adb installed on your PC
Quickie on how to install adb:
Moon2 said:
You need adb:
-Get this installer: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
-Go to Available Packages, Expand Third Party - Google - select USB Driver
-Update adb driver, if not already installed from: C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\google-usb_driver
-Copy "adb.exe" and "AdbWinApi.dll" from "C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools" to "C:\Windows\System32".

I read the batch file and
you have created a folder called boot under data folder and pasted the zimage
so everytime when we boot out Hd2s it going to replace the zimage with the one in boot folder, so i guess its going to delay the booting process (correct me if im wrong) so is it possible to delete that folder after booting our Leos?

No, that's not what it does. it mounts the boot partition temporarily to /data/boot, and after it's mounted, adb copies over the zImage file, and overwrites the preexisting kernel image, after this, the partition is unmounted. So it's not repeated at each boot.
works a treat...
I just used Android commander..
made sure it was connected..
then ran the extract batch file
installed the nand build i wanted...
then ran the install Kernel.bat
and it works a treat!!!!

Is all that done on the phone? It seems you installed the kernel on the phone somehow. I'm clueless about adb, I tried to use it before but was dumbfounded by it all.
Do I need Eclipse? Downloading the SDK stuff...installing JDA SE and it talks about Eclipse.
Moon2 the links dead it says file has been removed anybody re upload it????

[Q] Can't install ClockworkMod Recovery - v1.3 on HD2

Hi there everyone!
I'm almost a noob in android and am trying to install ClockworkMod Recovery for HD2 - v1.3. I followed the instructions that are in this thread but I can't install because it always gives me this error ...
An error has occurred
Read below for more information
Error Description: Config load failed.
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (725)
Error Description: CONFIG: file not exist
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (359)
I think it's because I didn't copied the files initrd.gz and zImage to the card, but the zip does not have these files ...I'm trying to install the 150MB partition.
Can someone help me please?
What operating system are you using?
Windows Xp, Vista, or 7?
windows 7.
I've already tried to run de DAF.exe as admin, compatibility mode but no luck...
i don't know if ther is some conection but i'm using MDJ's v2.6 and my radio is 2.15.50.14
I assume these are the steps you did.
How to use;
For MAGLDR NAND Boot;
1. Download recovery with partition size for the type of rom you plan on using, see guide below if unsure.
2. Extract downloaded file and load magldr into USB Flasher mode.
3. Run DAF.exe and follow instructions
4. After completed and phone reboots, hold power key and select AD Recovery from list
5. Recovery will now load
If this does not work. Try to download CWM 1.3 again. Download might of been corrupt.
You do not need the files on the SD card. It should load to nand.
Which mgldr version do you have?
If not 1.3, get 1.3.
i don't know why but today it worked...lol!
Thanks for the help any way!

What CWM partition size did you install? Make sure it's at least the one stated in the ROM's OP, or more.

Did U install the CWM or did u ask someone to do it?
Anyways, if u installed CWM from the files then all u need to do is open the flash.cfg document with the notepad. NOT the flash.cfg.txt.
When you open the document, edit the line
"system ya xxxM"
Change the number in this line.
In place of the 'xxx' type in your desired partition
Check the partition in the thread for your rom

Why on earth would you install SD Android when you can flash NAND Android?
Just follow this guide. Use the partition size stated in the OP of your ROM. To edit the partition size, download one of the CWM things attached at the end of the guide I posted and open it, then open flash.cfg and edit system ya = xxx to whatever you need and flash as stated in the guide.
