Sg3 vs maxx hd - RAZR HD General

I currently have the iPhone 4 and getting bored with the iOS never changing and I'm up for an upgrade now I'm just looking to see what's a better phone. I'm looking at the maxx hd the sg3. I'm not going to get the iPhone 5 cause its basically the same thing I got other than it has a few little changes.
What's everyone's opinions between the sg3 and the maxx hd. I'm kinda a heavy user meaning that I send and receive lots of emails and texts. Also I watch a bunch of YouTube videos and surf the net. So battery life is important and so is signal quality.
Also which phone is easier to root and has more roms available for it

This has been posted and answered so many times, try doing a little search first before posting

in regards to the wish list

Well all I can say is wow. I was expecting my X10 today but ill have to wait until Monday and now after reading the "wish list" thread im not to sure I will even keep it. To all you users out there is this device even worth the money? There are a lot of gripes going on there and I have to say that the negativity surrounding the Timescape and Mediascape apps are a real downer for me. Those are big reasons for me wanting the phone. I guess im looking for some positive feedback here from current owners.
Any thing??
You need to form your own opinion, personally I am more than happy with my X10 but there are a few, niggling issues which could be cleaned up quite simply (and in time I am sure they will be...)
I have friends with the Nexus ONE and HTC phones and they are jealous of my X10, the X10 has issues, but so do the other phones and within my group of friends we all agree that the X10 looks the best, performs the fastest and smoothest. Andriod as an OS still has a little way to go, but it is getting there...
Even with all my concerns, I have no regret in buying the X10, the hardware is excellent, it is beautiful to hold... The software lets it down a bit compaired to the iPhone but you do learn to live with it and I am sure it will improve.
First of all, you should note that only a very small percentage of users of most any product ever bother to post to a forum, and of those the vast majority tend to be the more vocal types in regards to comments, usually for the worse (frankly if you love your device and you're not a techy, you're not likely to bother singing praise all over the internet). I've been part of enought forums over my life to know this (and yes, I admit to being a vocal complainer).
With that said, I think the X10 is a fabulous piece of hardware (as I mentioned in my Wish List posting). Overall, I'm very happy with my choice. But that's not to say the product is perfect. You'll find a fair share of complaints over any other smartphone.
Software issues can always be easily managed through updates by the manufacturer or through using 3rd party apps. I know Timescape and Mediascape are key selling points of the X10 from SE's standpoint, but I think they've been neglecting how good the hardware is in doing that. Mediascape is the better of the two apps from my point of view, but that's not to say that Timescape can't be a great app to some people or to me even with some tweaking.
In the end, it'll come down to your own judgement. I recommend giving it some time to try it out and let the battery settle in. It's good to read and research a purchase before making one (I always do extensively), but it's very easy to get caught up in the wave of emotion from others and lose your own personal objectivity.
NEVER look in a board if u want to buy a piece of hardware!!
1. There are 100 people with 100 different opinions. U will get more confused the more you read
2. In an online board there are always more negative threads about a product than positive ones. Ask yourself have you ever started a thread about a camera that actually does photos? Or an mp3 player that PLAYS music? A TV that lets u WATCH TV? No? So the same here.
All i can say is that the x10 I a great device. A friend of mine has bought the HTC Desire but in my opinion the x10 is much better. When the first fixes are rolled out and the android 2.1 update is available this phone ist a kick ass device!
Well its my personality to become a little obsessed about devices, or whatever im into at the time. I would consider myself a techy, although im relatively new to android, which is why i pose the question. I have spent the last couple of weeks learning everything there is to know about this device so that when I get it I know exactly what to do with it.......sequentially. Little OCD if you get me. So when I join a site like this, made up of power users and devs and I hear them griping about issues it gets me a little paranoid.
Thanks for the reply's and I guess ill have to wait and give it a real go. Much appreciation.
Hi - It's my first Android too.. I've a few friends with iPhones and my Wife has a HTC legend (which is a great bit of kit too!).. but I wouldn't swap my X10 for either of them.. now I've got to grips with the battery life issue I'm moving on to other things.. like saltorio says.. the phones not perfect.. Timescape doesn't really float my boat particularly.. I'm getting to grips with Mediascape now and it's pretty good (other than the fact you have to create your playlists on MediaGo on your PC - unless you can dig out the base Android music player which is hidden on your phone and create them in there..)
The operation of the phone is quick and smooth and the camera is pretty good too. The photo light is a bit limited in it's usefulness.
Apart from anything else.. the handset is gorgeous and makes your friends jealous!

As you can see in the wish list topic, I have several complaints and wishes. But at the same time, this is probably the best phone I ever had, and definitely the best smartphone.
I don't know if the device is worth the money it costs*. What I know, is that there's not a globally better smartphone on the market. I used a Windows Mobile device before the X10, and at work I use massively the iPhone. Android is the junction point between Windows Mobile and the iPhone, the best of both worlds. So, go on with Android. Is X10 the best Android on the market? If you can live without multitouch (and I bet you can!) this is definitely the best Android on the market. If I would lose or broke my X10, I would immediately buy another one.
* Actually, I'm pretty sure that there isn't any electronic device that is worth the money it costs.
personally i think its a very good device. Most of the complaints i see in my opinion are babyish like not getting a device because of multitouch or because it has 1.6, and touch screen response which works perfectly fine on my device ( what do they want? to just think and the device responds? come on now).
Just play with it for a while and make your own opinion based on your needs. Most of these forums have alot of negativity from people that dont make phones.
Sent from my X10i using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I have a long list on my X10 wishlist and many complaints about it too but I still love X10 more than Nexus One or any other touch screen phone I ever used. I had iPhone 3GS for over 6-months too .
Top 4 reason to get X10
1. Sexy looks
2. Beautiful screen
3. very nice UI theme (Blue)
4. Adroid
If you go to the Nexus One or Desire forums, you'll find plenty of issues with those phones as well. There's no such thing as a perfect phone, unfortunately. I've had my X10 for a few days now, and the choice between it and the Desire wasn't easy, but I won't be looking back because it is simply a gorgeous, excellent phone that is not perfect, but certainly good enough and I'm sure it'll only get better with each update Sony Ericsson puts out.

Sorry I forgot to outline that i absolutely love my phone but its my nature to want more. My battery is getting a bashing because i can't put it down, if i'm not listening to music i'm taking photo's, recording videos 50 mins long, checking facebook and tweeter or simply touching it.
Don't be fooled I've not been as happy with an upgrade for 6 years.
Well I appreciate all the feedback. Feeling much better about it now. I can't wait to get my hands on it!! I guess I let myself get carried away with my obsessions some times and ive basically been judging the phone before I even got it. But you must admit that in the short time since its release there is a absolute ton of info on it and most of it is people complaining about this or that. Ive gotten burned by Rogers with their return policy in the past and got stuck with a product that I wasnt' really happy with so im approaching this with caution.
Personally I can live with the lack of MT and considering all the positives that have been presented here im really looking forward to getting started.
Thanks again

[Q] Thinking about Switching -

I've been back and forth from switching from the Inspire over to the Atrix...Just curious if anyone in here has done that, and What (if any versus the Inspire) are the Pro's/Con's to Swapping devices....
I believe i'm still covered under AT&T's 30 day exchange deal, so lets hear it...What do you all think?
If the inspire had a BETTER, speaker phone, battery, I would have stayed with it.
The ringtones and music play so LOW it's pathetic! And battery life is not as good as the atrix, UNLESS you don't use the phone much. I don't care much about the hacks that suppose to fix somethings, it will never be as good as the atrix in those areas. Because of this I was inspired to go for the atrix
The atrix on the othe hand, has weak camera and its flash is weak too. I like that it's much smaller than the inspire.
The fellow I had the pleasure of speaking with at AT&T was pretty quick to tell me that I would be paying quite a lot for more for the Atrix than this Inspire...It sounds good, but is it truly worth swapping?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
...... how exactly did he come to that conclusion?
Good question....my guess was partially because I bought this and my wifes crackberry Torch for $79 bucks each through their lovely retention department...I figure I will call them in the morning
Sent from my Inspire using XDA App
I just exchanged my Inspire for an Atrix and it cost me $103... Not exactly a bank breaker.
If I Swap to the Atrix, I Seriously refuse to pay anything more...DOUBT I'll get away with it, but you'd figure a Like for Like exchange of some sorts...supposed to call my friends over @ Retention again this morning, so we'll see...
There its a lot of threads talking about this, even a comparison between 2 devices. Next please use search button

Your opinion is duly noted - However If I wanted to use the search button to find a bunch of other responses and or posts that dont pretain to what I want to know, OR ask what I wanted to ask...I would have. Thanks for your input
My take is that the Inspire has a better display (not resolution but brightness and colors) but the Atrix has more to offer in the long run.
I also figured out how to get great battery life with the Atrix. Your mileage may vary, but I use Exchange via Hotmail for my sync needs and changing it from push to 15 min intervals has extended my battery life to more than a day. With the Inspire, I was never able to make it through an entire day without charging.
The Atrix also has a great speaker and plays Angry Birds with zero lag.

Despite its MANY shortcomings, the Atrix still is the best phone to have today. Maybe the EVO 3D or SGS2 might steal this title, but it still stands strong.
A solid contender today is the Nexus S.
Frankly, my advice would be to get the Atrix, hold on to it till the end of the year, and get the next multi-core Nexus phone. It might also have a 3D screen (to encourage development of 3D apps), who knows?
But I gotta say, I found the lack of 720p HD recording on the Nexus S to be unforgivable. On the other hand, the Atrix can't play unmodified 720p mkv movie files, while the Nexus S can....

i see a new inspire vs atrix thread everyday on this board, you are just asking pros and cons and there are many threads already on the subject addressing the exact same question you are asking....honestly can people not make decisions for themselves anymore, just look at the specs and reviews and choose the one best for your needs. its not complicated....
Atrix is beyond the Inspire. Can't believe people think the Inspire is better. I think Moto should have waited to optimize its device for dual-core and launch it with GB...but whatever, it is still the best on the market right now. Atrix sits #1 on the charts according to pcworld

Meh. Some people like to ask questions to the community instead of reading different threads. At least it's semi-on topic. Guess that shows how cynical I've become after 16 years of posting on internet forums.

Goodbye XDA, and thanks!

Well folks, my upgrade is due, and I'll be saying a sad farewell to my X10i.
I just want to take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to all the folks in the X10 forum. Without the XDA site, and all your hard work, I would have been tired of my X10 a long, long time ago. As it is, there has always been something new and different to try out on it, and it has become proably the best-loved and most-used phone I've ever owned.
Huge respect to all the devs.
I'm getting an iPhone 4S tomorrow, so it's unlikely I'll be using XDA for at least another two years.
All the best,
Toby

well some leave and some join,
I have a galaxy tab 10.1 for 2 months now, rooted but thats it
and now i have the xperia pro since yesterday, i still try to figure out wich sony forum is best for my phone since no xperia pro forum exist.
am trying to find the best rom for this phone, well i never installed a custom rom, only rooted my tab and still havent root my phone, i find it pretty complicate compare to my samsung tab but maybe ill root it and install a custom rom if i see that its really worth it
no way of changing the lockscreen picture, i had to dl file manager to reach my files transfered from the pc.
I've had my 4S for a few days now. I never realised how similar MIUI is to iPhone until now.
It imported my Google contacts without a hitch, and let me have my gmail account as my primary email address with no problems.
I'm missing the X10 Facebook integration a little; it takes a few seconds longer to upload pics and stuff to FB as I have to go through the app to do it or send by email.
The best thing about it IMO is the games. Stuff that chugged horribly on my X10 (like Dungeon Defenders for example, or some of the levels on Star Legends) runs nice and smooth now, giving me 60fps in most places with the occasional drop to 30fps, so if you're into games, then this is a really good phone.
The battery seems pretty similar to my X10 right now; if I play Pocket Legends for an hour, it drops by about 20%.
Overall, it's similar to Android, but different. Whilst it does some nice stuff my X10 couldn't do, it also cannot do some nice stuff my X10 could do. Not without paying money anyway :/

Need phone suggestions for Verizon.

Hello all,
I dropped my work cell, and jacked it up bad.
Good thing though, is I am eligible for an upgrade and the datacom ladies told me I can get any of the Verizon Android phones or an iPhone 4S.
I need some suggestions for new phones pretty quickly as I need to let my Director know by this Friday.
I love Android so I think the iPhone is out of the question. I have an HTC EVO for my personal phone. I am looking at the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX and the Galaxy Nexus.
Price doesn't really matter, as the company allows up to $300 for phone replacement every 2 years, so they would both be "free" to me.
I would like to be able to root the phone so I can tether. There is pretty good LTE 4G coverage in my area as well. What are some pros and cons to them? What phones do you suggest (Im open to other models as well).?
galaxy nezus!
Galaxy Nexus has the full support of Google which means the best versions of Android. The nexus will be VERY easy to root and custom MOD to your hearts desire. It is the developer phone of choice because of the Nexus Line. Incredible screen, really big, really clear and detailed.
The Droid RAZR MAXX has the best bettery of life of almost any phone on the market and it probably has the best hardware too. Kevlar backing, metal frame. Motorola has gotten better in terms of software, Motoblur isn't quite so crappy. Motorola phones are harder to root and custom mod but they aren't impossible. The screen is smaller and less clear then the Nexus but Coming from and HTC EVO it is an improvement.
Recommendation for a WORK phone, i would recommend the RAZR MAXX. Its battery life is incredible. You have no worries about a dead battery halfway through the day
In fact,Motoblur is very good.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Rezound, it has a lot going for it. It's a global device! Plus if you are already used to sense, and like it, you will know your way around it. Plus, it's unlockable through HTC dev. Super easy process. Then you only have to flash recovery, su binary, then download superuser and you are rooted.
Nexus is no longer going to be supported by Google as the issues with CDMA have become too much of a hassle.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I didnt even think about the Rezound.
I do like the high resolutions of the Nexus and the Rezound, but the battery life on the Razr Maxx is tempting.
For me I want to be able to root it, and have a good looking display, and a phone that is going to be smooth with ICS. I also need a phone that will be fairly durable, as it will see alot of use at the office as well as in the datacenter. Since I only get an upgrade from work every 2 years, I would like one that will "be around" for a while. My personal EVO has been a damn good phone and I would love to use one like it for work.
Whats the deal with Google and CDMA phones? I havent heard that.
I say the Razr Maxx if you want durability. Otherwise the Rezound is great all around.

Not quite, Google is no longer directly supporting CDMA phones with full AOSP support.

So if we were to compare the resolutions alone, is there a huge difference in the Razr's lower resolution screens?
Rezound will be getting ICS as soon as HTC released Ville so probably a few months

I would say Moto Razr Maxx. Has awesome batter life its super sexy and will more that positively get ICS.

Durability and battery life has to be the RAZR MAXX, it is built solid.
As for Google. It still supports CDMA devices but not directly through the Android Open Source Project. CDMA requires closed sourced sign apk's for the carriers in order to get data working. Google doesn't like that. Verizon leveraged that into bloating its version of the Nexus. Google STILL supports it, just not through AOSP
.

I'm buying a one M8 from T-Mobile soon

In a couple of weeks I'm gonna use Jump to upgrade to the One M8 and I want some users who have the specific one from T-Mobile to tell me how it pretty much is to use .. And if the camera is passable .. My other 2 choices I could go with instead would be the S5 or I might give iPhone a try but I think that would be a foolish choice .. So yeah

Ik its specs I just want someone to tell me how the user experience is and maybe compare to other flag ships .. I did watch reviews but I wonna know what xda dudes think lol
I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon to the T-Mobile M8 so I was accustomed to a 2.5 year old phone. That said, I can say that I've never used a faster phone. I have a Nexus 10 tablet that is about a year old that the phone is faster than. I get twice as long from the battery than I've every gotten from any phone.
From the reviews I've read and from personal experience I think it really boils down to a few things. It's really between the M8 and the S5, unless you like the apple juice. The M8 has Sense 6 which is MUCH cleaner and closer to stock android than Samsung's skin. Touchwiz is hugely bloated and barely resembles Android the way Google intended. However, the reviews have the S5 with slightly better battery and a better camera. So if you take a lot of pictures and don't mind the gimmicky bloat of Samsung then go for the S5. But the M8 will feel better designed in both hardware and software. There are already mods out to improve camera quality and I've tweaked my battery to last a little over 2 days on normal use.
Obviously I'm here so I lean towards the M8 but I'm a huge proponent of the software side of things. I think HTC really nailed it with Sense 6.

I didn't provide the link for specs, at the bottom you have plenty of forums to go and have discussions with other Tmobile device owners! The links are there! :silly:
As for the comparisons to other flag ships, it's not allowed here, even though I don't agree with that concept at all and can't really see where it's mentioned in the rules post as being against the rules but the moderators always close down posts that discuss comparisons.
So check the link I posted again, I don't know why you just looked at the specs and closed the window instead of just looking a little lower and seeing ALL the threads provided for T-Mobile users... a General section, a Q&A section, a Theme section, Development section etc.
Reason I gave that link is because this is international version section and there might not be a lot of people with T-Mobile that can help you, where as if you head over to T-Mobile section they ALL might be able to help you, as it's their section :good:

Yeah I'm sorry m8 I was quick to judge.
I have always been an HTC guy from Sprint with the CDMA Hero, Evo 3D, Evo LTE, One M7 to One Max. Then I switched to T-Mobile and got the M8. I love the M8 even though I am still in love with the Max mostly for the screen size. I think the camera on the M8 is awesome. I have yet to take a pic out of focus. And the sound on this is very impressive, almost as loud as the gigantic speakers on the Max. I am not a fan of the Touch Whiz UI, so needless to say I'm not a fan of Samsung. I recommend the M8 whole heartily!

I just picked mine up today. So far im loving it! I'm coming from the Nexus 4. The screen is gorgeous, the sound is great (though not quite as loud as I expected), and the camera is awesome so far. Love being able to select focus after the shot is taken. Battery life seems pretty darn good so far too.
I'll miss vanilla android, but I'll get used to sense again. As far as manufacturer skins go, it's great. Let's see how long I can last from rooting though. I hate bloat. You can't even uninstall Twitter! Wtf?
