Flyme 2.1 Beta Update Won't Install - Meizu MX

Edit: After hours of research and stumbling across this error on other forums, it appears I have most likely purchased a counterfeit phone.
I am comparing pictures of it to marketing material on the MX and it's slightly off. Also, the camera's quality is certainly not 8MB.
The OS theme is certainly not Flyme, but as a new Android user, I didn't know that. Also, the home button was glued in place and easily pushed off.
The message seems to be from a different boot-loader which was reported in exact detail to MIUMI Xiaomi MI2 Android forums.
The seller was Terry Tian of "Discount Android Phones", which was purchased through AliExpress.

Found this today. Having some problems applying the update.bin or update.zip (not sure how to determine HK or CN)
meizume.com/front-page-news/14919-flyme-2-1-available-meizu-mx.html
It's an MX but I can't find the exact model for the life of me.
No matter what I do, I get "Invalid OTA package, missing scatter. Update.zip is not correct. Installation aborted".
The recovery tool is called "Android system recovery <3e>". It has a robot lying on its back with a hazard sign.
Edit: Please move to General Discussion if that's more appropriate.

The cn version phone has Chinese writing on the front of the phone, just to the right of the speaker piece, the hk phone does not have any writing on the front of the phone, you can get the appropriate rom from here..

Thanks bolinao.
I read that several places. I'm pretty certain this hardware is not the real deal. Here's what the seller said to me in PM today through AliExpress website:
Terry Tian, Order Number: 1022955433: Hi,the phone is not counterfeit Meizu phone,it is a customised version, like HK phone,Although the founctions have a little difference, and it is a good phone ,moreover the price is more cheaper ,thanks

I want to upload some pictures of this thing. It's not a horrible device, but I'm 99% sure it's not Meizu. The LED camera flash is below the camera instead of above it, and it takes two full size SIM cards, but one is blocked off by a piece of plastic which is easily removed. This is much different than the Meizu MX's that I'm seeing pictures of on the internet.
The OS looks nothing like Flyme, it's mostly stock Android menus and artwork with the MX wallpaper. (should have been a red flag if I wasn't so new to ICS). This would explain why no ROM updates have worked.
I've attached a picture of what the fireware update screen looks like (found an identical image from another site, as I don't have an extra camera).
The methods I've attempted were the basic - Copy to root of internal SD, reboot holding lock / volume up. I can see and select the update.zip (update.bin won't even list) and it begins the update process and then displays the error in the previous post.
Now I want to put a fresh copy of ICS on this super sketchy Chinese device as I don't entirely trust it since it's now of unknown origin. I did manually remove some apks using Bin4ry's root & adb (rooting may not have been necessary, I didn't check first):
Code:
cd /system/app
rm LatinIME.apk # <-- Fix spellcheck
rm ONE_S_moji.apk
rm RootExplorer.apk # <-- Chinese branded version
rm PinyinIME.apk
rm YunYingyong.apk
rm SogouInput.apk
And to fix Spell Checking:
Code:
adb push ..\..\Downloads\LatinImeDictionaryPack.apk /system/app/LatinImeDictionaryPack.apk
adb push ..\..\Downloads\LatinImeGoogle.apk /system/app/LatinImeGoogle.apk
My biggest problem now though, is after using the built in factory reset option, 3G data is no longer working, and I'm having a very hard time finding some troubleshooting guides that don't involve the stuff I've already tried, such as reseating the SIM, powering off for 5 minutes with battery removed, deleting and recreating APN settings, etc. <--- 3G Fixed by contacting the carrier. They had a technical problem on their end. While phone was powered off and SIM was removed the technical support made some fix that got 3G working again. Phew. (Straight Talk)
Sorry for such a long response.

Sad story and the seller's reply is utter BS, of course. There is no such thing as a "customised version, like HK phone". Meizu doesn't "customise" phones. Did they somehow copy the MEIZU loading screen on powering up...should be the blue MEIZU logo with light of the same color tracing a circle around the logo? The serial number should have either an H or a C in the 4th position, which tells you it's a Hong Kong or China edition, respectively. Wouldn't matter anyway because if you've opened it and seen it's a dual SIM device, it's a fake. Meizu has never made a dual SIM phone. The MX also uses a micro SIM card, another dash of salt in the wound.
Not sure xda's policy on such matters, but publishing the shop of the con artist who sold you the phone could be a service to future buyers who might be tempted.

It's a white Meizu M with a blue loading bar underneath.

In ICS, the Serial lists as 0123456789ABCDEF, behind the battery it lists as MX31CA1BLHNPNF1238.

I put it in the first post (just went back and bolded it). If is is against XDA policy, mods please edit it out, as the rest of the info could help others.
If I can get a hold of a camera, I'll supply some detailed photos of the device. My low reputation on XDA won't let me post the sale page, so here's a link:
tinyurl.com/fakemx
As you can see, there's a mix of pictures, some pictures of fake MXs, some pictures of real MXs (which is blatantly obvious to me now). The seller's low reputation should have been a red flag for me as well. For an additional $60 I likely could have gotten the real deal.
With exception of the poor camera, the phone is pretty close to the specifications listed. (I've noticed all knock-off phones claim 8MP). It's not a horrible android phone, but now I have a device that I'm not even sure how to load or mod, and with the mis-branded OS, I don't even know where to start for JB compatibility, etc...
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

"Dell Confidential" at startup?

Can I get some quick help please. If the phone boots up with that message then is that standard for a retail unit? Thanks
Mine didn't, but mine came from O2 not direct from Dell.
Mine doesn't and it's direct from Dell.
Ok, this one that I won on ebay but not paid for it yet. It says its from O2 and brand new in box with screen protector, but doesn't sound like retail?
The seller says: "what you seen online photos are promo converse i have not touched my unit
are original stickers and screen protector and when you start up the unit
it show dell confidential"
What do you think & what would you do?
Thanks
Must say have not read of anyone saying that before and i read everything on the net about the streak
hmm i've been reading a lot around this forum and a couple others and never heard of that.
I think its either 1 of 2 things. 1 is that it could be a custom bootscreen that someone made and put it on (very simple to do). or 2 is that is running some beta build of android. Sometimes manufacturers will put confidential or similar terms on prototypes and pre-release devices.
Go to settings-> about phone-> Software information and either post a screen shot of that page or type that info out here.
ok thanks for the info guys. I have not paid for the item just yet but I won the auction today. So basically do not have the item on me. Do you guys think its legit then as it's meant to be locked onto O2? Am guessing the firmware can be updated to the latest one but hoping the phone itself is same as retail? Will probably be paying through paypal so hopefully I have some security if things go wrong.
The device is beta-quality.
Biggest drawback is that it lacks the "fastboot" option (which is mandatory for ROM upgrade).
This means the model can never be upgraded.

What are you talking about? Where did you get your information? And why are you opening a year old thread?????
The Streak has fastboot. Most of the people on this forum have upgraded or changed their ROM. And this OLD thread was referring to the pre-release Streak of a year ago. The Streak of today is certainly not "beta-quality"!!!
Mods - This thread should be locked as it is outdated.
ive seen that image loc somewhere in framrwork-res/res/
Changing the Dell startup logo... not easily done as fone_fanatic suggested, bootanimation sure, but not the dell logo. My best guess is a beta/testing device. which ..should.. have fastboot I would imagine.
this guy could have some cool stuff on the there, send TheManii a system dump.
I would love 2 things.... how to customize dell logo on startup, not boot animation, logo, probably mroe involved than its worth, I think its encrypted. And fina a list of all the fastboot dialer codes.. they have to be hidden deep in the system, otherwise how would the device recognize them. Its all low level bootloader stuff, though, a bit beyond me.

I have seen that message on a friends streak, and definitely there is fastboot but the device is kindda semi bricked(??), you cant put any custom image on it, neither any other official rom.
The message actually says something like this:
Dell Confidential
The emergency software recovery failed please contact a nearest dell service center to get it repaired, do not pull the battery out of the unit, or try to restore factory defaults.
After that the phone boots up normally( however the phone factory resets on its own a lot, like once or twice a day)
354 rom is installed on the phone
and streakmod recovery while installing(Any custom rom) says that the sd card is not detected.
This happened after he tried something with QDL.
However dell is replacing the unit.
We are even unable to take a nandroid of the phone.
Seems like a bad internal sd card
IMHO to the OP refrain to buy the unit.....

[JUL2] [Q] Help I accidentally the whole thing...

Well, technically I didn't do anything.
I just bought an HD2 off Craiglist, T8585, previously unlocked, so it would already play nice with my AT&T.
It had some SPB shell on it, so I went in to do a full data wipe and it reboots into something not stock-sense.
I attempted to boot into the bootloader and nothing happens--it just boots normally.
((Vol. down does work normally, mind you--the button is not broken.))
Any ideas as to what might be going on? I'm trying to see if they have the stock bootloader on this still, but the non-stock reset is throwing me off, as is the fact that I can't actually boot into the bootloader.
If I hold down both volumte buttons, I get a tricolor+white screen with an error, "Error: Copying file from SD Card failed, system will shut down."
Pictures attached to show current home-screen and error screen.
Thanks for your help.
Did you try without SD card? If there is something "flashable" on it, maybe your device tries to do something, but reading existing data fails.
My bro if im not wrong this hd2 seems like hd2 clone not original... so be very carefully when you try something with flashing ....

wats d purpose of you wanting to check bootloader ?
I assume all you want back is Sense UI ?
Sense UI would be a start, yes, but I would have liked to flash WP7 and/or Android onto it, too.
Emm, i think that thats not HTC HD 2, thats MKT HD2, a clone looks almost 1:1 compared to htc hd 2.

Simply go to Start--Settings--
home--Items--Check HTC Sense and uncheck all the rest
that should do...
also if it is an hd2 and you have wm on it there are many endkeys / apps that have a reboot into bootloader.

from looking at the picture, its hard to tell if it is a clone...if it is not an HTC HD2, but rather a clone, more photos of the device would clarify it. the body is not clearly visible in the two pictures you've attached.
if it is a clone, that would explain the little "surprises" you are encountering here and there
Further investigation yields that the hard-reset ROM does not have Sense stock, so I'm guessing that this is, sadly, a clone.
I had no way to tell at the time, as the previous owner had some shell installed and I couldn't tell from the body alone--it looks like a real one, and it was advertised (and had the box/materials of) a legit HTC phone...
Sucks that I've been scammed and that I'm out the amount I paid. First time I've ever been burned off CL.

how do you know its a clone ? may be the ROM is a NON-Sense D) ROM !!!
"MTKProfessional" is an appearance type on the phone. This, combined with the quirks and comparing it to a review of the "HD9" leads me to believe it's in fact a clone--and not even the pretty impressive v2 clone.
I'm disappointed, really.
it looks so real !

To be honest, I wouldn´t have noticed that you might have a clone just from the pictures you posted - but another poster discovered that fact.
Now, that´s what I call criminal - no less. A fake with a kind of a "phantasy" name is one thing, but to sell a copied device, which carries the real brand, as a real product, is indeed criminal. In my country, it´s even an official crime.
I´m sorry for you, mate. It´s not nice getting ripped off like this.
I wonder if you can't turn that guy in at the police.
I think you have all the evidence that he know this was a fake.
Also if you look at the loudspeaker grill (where you put your ear at), mine is black and this one looks silver.
seems like a clone to me. the sensors (light and proximity) are larger, and the bootloader screen is a bit different.
Hw do u know if one is a clone?

[Q] Can you do anthing without the original bootloader

I have recently acquired a htc hd2 T8585 which has Android 2.3.4. installed on the NAND flash memory. I wish to install the stock win 6.5 rom or experiment with some of the other roms but ive hit a brick wall. Every how to and piece of infomation ive read about the subject refers to the red, green, blue and white bootloader screen that you reach by pressing the volume and power buttons a certain way. This bootloader is not on my hd2, instead it has android recovery mode which consists of six options:
1.reboot system now
2.apply update from sdcard
3.wipe data/ factory reset
4.wipe cache partition
5.backup user data
6.restore user data.
Theres also a empty 16 GB micro sd card and ive tried finding out how to do it that way as well but all options require the original bootloader.
Basically it seems i can't do jack without the bootloader.
Has anyone enccounterd this problem? Any ideas?
help much appreciated
law 180
the real bootloader will still be there, the phone cant work without it. What you are seeing is a secondary bootloader.
phone off
press hold and keep holding vol-down (not vol-up)
tap and release power
keep holding vol-down
stripey screen should appear.
if it doesn't, you have a fault.
Factory mode
Hey samsamuel thanks for the reply. After following your instructions the phone went into an android factory mode istead of recovery mode and after running some tests displayed these options:
Factory mode
1.Full test
2.Item test
3.Test report
4.Clear flash
5.Version
6.Reboot
I still can't see how to install a new rom from this point. Any ideas?
Thanks.
hmmm,, doesnt sound like an HD2 to me, , , fake chinese import? wrongly identified device? got a photo of it?
Whatever your device is, it's not an HD2 I'm afraid. I'd agree with samsamuel, pics might help.
Its definitely a HD2 and im now guessing probabley a chinese copy, though the phone feels pretty solid but i don't have a lot of expirence in these matters. Under the battery it says HD2 T8585 and its made in Taiwan also has a imei number etc Here are some photos, sorry about the quality.

Yep, that's a copy. The sensor in the first pic (on the top left) is far too pronounced and the stuff under the battery is different to the one under mine. Also, I don't know if it's just me but the bezel seems a little too big as well. Sorry, but this isn't an HD2.
yea that orange charge light is way out of position, (thats about where the proximity sensor should be, the orange light should be inside teh earpiece grill, tucked into teh left corner.) , its a good copy, though, if it is , there were some terrible ones a year or two back.
Ah to bad, thanks for the help guys. Luckily i didnt pay anything for it, tempted to buy a real one now.

Fake S5 - will it work on original rom?

First of all, hello everyone since this is my first post and thread on this forum. And thanks for all the help I had found in the past. And sorry if my English would not be understandable sometimes
So I bought this fake Galaxy S5 in China (Silk Street in Beijing) - I did it on purpose, knowing from the beginning that I'm buying a fake. Didn't expect anything big from this phone, but after a few days of using it, I'm very surprised by its good quality. It has some chinese features though, and the rom is not fully translated into Polish - sometimes mixed English/Polish, but I don't mind. Ant the battery is certainly a poor quality fake, because it discharges in a few hours of normal using (or not using at all) - maybe something in the chinese rom is draining it? Definitely I will buy an original one.
And! The most intriguing thing is, that the device keeps changing its MAC address. I know it's hardly possible, but I checked it precisely - MAC changed at least 3 times after complete discharging or forced reboot.
I was worried about flashing some 'real' rom into it, not knowing if the hardware would handle it, but I ran the CPU-Z and this is what I got:
View attachment 2912728
View attachment 2912729
View attachment 2912730
Can I consider this phone as almost original S5? Only the CPU is somewhat different, but the RAM is the same as in the original, even the screen is FullHD, which surprised me the most. And if yes, is there any suitable custom (or original) rom for me? What should I even think of this phone? Only thing I know that I made a good deal - it was like $130
Thanks in advance for your help!
First, don't trust the results that you appear to have in hand. CPUZ is a fine utility but many fakes go out of their way to feed spurious information into the app. There are already a few hints in your results that they are spurious. Before you trust those results, vet them against several other apps e.g. Samsung Info and a full benchmark suite.
One important clue is whether you can enter a standard download mode. Pull the battery and then use the volume down + home + power sequence to see if you get a download mode and if has any irregularities.
As to your original question, almost certainly no. Trying to write an original firmware to your known fake is likely to brick it. Perhaps irretrievably. You need to identify who made the fake and search out the proper utility to write firmware to the device. if you do a search of this forum or my post history you'll find the name of a forum that specializes in fakes and likely can aid you.
.
Do you still have that phone?

[Q] firmware

Hi, I got a videotron (canadian carrier) note 4. Unlock and using it on rogers network. I bought it second hand, and seller didn't told me about the root..... On sammobile site, for the firmware, all canadian carrier have model sm-n910w8 as model #. Is it safe to flash rogers firmware on it? And is there a way to see if knox (probably been tick off) how many time and anyway to reset it. Looking through google but a bit lost. Thanks for your help

You can boot in download mode to check knox. If tripped it cannot be reset as of yet.
Thanks, that's what I was getting so, no biggies. Now, firmware side, beside sammobile, is that one look ok

Mm might be for exynos chip note 4.... Not good I guess

I don't know much about north American models.

my guess is that any n910w8 firmware will work on any n910w8 phone, just different bloatware from carrier.

Would be very surprise was pre-installed. someone else with a N4 could confirm. I know that you can make cerberus a system app if rooted, so a hard-reset, from the phone wouldn't erase it, but I flash through odin, should erase all and put new rom.... Seller don't seem 100% legit if can say, He told me that i could get another security app.... he think that it"s might be the place that have unlock the phone that have put it on it,... thinking asking for a refund
And quick info, capacitive buttons, when they light up, do they look like with thin lines over them (thin black lines) or there is no interruption all white with nothing over

Air command open when button on stylus is pressed, dot show on screen as soon as stylus is about a inch of screen, a cursor like a | show if there is text under and keep pressing the button. Kies see the phone, as a note 4. What HDC mean? Saw a few pic where the line shows on the net. But still trying to get a refund from seller, he told me he wasn't a store, than he told me to give him the phone, he would sell it and pay me after.... Imei on phone and box don't match, and the one on phone, you google it and get result.... At least not blacklisted on protectyourdata.ca and using the phone.
Any input?
