CM9 and ICS on the way to Kindle Fire?

I just read an article on Engadget, reporting news about CyanogenMod 9 and Ice Cream Sandwich. Link (my first post, so waren't allowed to post clickable link... sorry!): engadget.com/2011/12/06/ics-based-cyanogenmod-9-its-on-track-but-not-for-everybody/
It mentions CM9 making good progress, especially for devices powered by the OMAP 4 processor. Considering the OMAP 4430 processor inside the Fire, this must be great news for future Fire ROM's?
Is it likely we'll see a CM9 ROM for the Fire?

Ok, thank you, I'll try to find some more threads about it. Those I've found so far are mostly about porting the CM7 ROM, but I guess the CM9 gets mentioned as well

CM7 has been ported, but does not have sound. The Dev. working on that did that to prove it could be done, then went directly to an ICS port. Another Dev says he has completed ICS, with aspects not working, but sucessfully booting, and will post pics and source later today. It is def. coming. I am waiting for the TWRP 2.0 before I mess with them though. I need successful recovery tools before I am willing to brick a $199 investment.

Sounds really great! I haven't received my Kindle yet, but the idea of running ICS on it is very exciting.
Do any of you have any thoughts about the performance? I've tried some HTC Android phones earlier, and noticed a significant performance increase when I replaced the stock ROM (with Sense) with a Vanilla Gingerbread ROM. Do you believe it will be the same result here? Better performance with Vanilla ICS than with the stock ROM including Amazon's custom UI?

It indeed seems like the developers that are working on the Kindle Fire make great progress! Awesome news for me that is probably importing one to Sweden in the near future. Awesome work developers!

Same here! Importing one to Norway, so a great part of the Kindle Fire Custom UI is more or less 'useless' for me... ICS will certainly make it a lot more versatile!

I'm with you there, I want to install the CM7 port so bad but don't like not having a working recovery yet. Wish I knew enough to help out the development, but I'm just a tinkerer.

guys check out kindle fire utility! Its pretty slick. it does a whole host of things, including install twrp2.0. just do a search for Kindle Fire Utility.

If you landed on this thread hoping for a link to CyanogenMod 9 (android 4.0) for the kindle fire...

I have been on ICS for a week now and love it...Now its time to try out CM9, since they got a new update today! Want to give HUGE THANKS to all the DEVS!! You have made my Kindle Fire AWESOME!!

I also installed the cm9 beta earlier this week. I've updated with each new release and it just keeps getting better. It runs so much faster than the OEM software and most of my apps install with ease. Can't thank the devs enough for their work.

Lol, really? There are thousands here like you. Just look on the development forum, install a ROM of your choice, and report back on whatever issues you have. No one here beta tests privately.

MIUI is not tablet friendly. There has been work on one, but the thing just doesn't look as polished as CM9 or AOKP, which are 100000% more better than having a phone OS on our devices.

While I definitely wouldn't recommend MIUI, there is in fact a decent version of MIUI for kindle fire.

I know it may/may not be rooted yet. But if possible I would like a system dump from the new Kindle Fire HD 7" (2013).
Or at the very least a .zip of /system/etc/firmware and /system/vendor/firmware

i don't own the device but this came from 11.3.0.3 /system/vendor/firmware

hey hash, did you stop working in the kindle fire hd? your last message was 1-2 months ago !

They (Amazon) advert the new Kindle Fire HD(2013) with a Dual-Core 1,5 GHz , Fire OS 3.0 "Mojito"(android 4.3 as the HDX) and new hardware without camera. You can see in the pictures that the USB is at the right side of the narrower and lighter frame, not down. There is no trace of HDMI out. Only one WIFI antenna.
It can share the same 7.4.7 firmware, but is a different or cut out hardware.
Edit: it doesn't share firmware, it has its own 11.3.0.3. one. This has happened to me for not reading....

I have the new HD however there's no About > Kernel. All I can see is that it has 11.3.0.3.

which might explain the lack of hdmi out, mimo wifi, camera, and mic

So are people still working on being able to get Android on this tablet?

The most likely situation is porting and streamlining the previous generation devices to the 3.4 kernel(beneficial to all omap kindle fires)
And at least find some kinda of way to root current gen
As for other roms(ie cm) on current gen that's gonna take a long time.
Also be happy that at least your current ROM is jellybean based.

This will be a pretty big challenge. Qualcomm don't goof around when it comes to security. I don't know if there has ever been an item not exploited by the folks at XDA but this one will not be easy. I think it was close to a year before the 2012 generations were exploited.

This not for the hdx's. This is for the HD 2013. Its not qcom. Its TI. its interesting because no other consumer omap device has been officially on the 3.4 kernel.
And it was 4 months for the 2012's but that was luck on fattire for fnding the bootloader exploit and hashcode's previous dev on the original kindle fire that made it quick(I know there was Cm10 ROM in DEC but that was more of proof than functionality.)

How many months after release before a fully functioning (not half sort of functioning) ROM was available for the KFHD? That's what counts. And I mean custom not hybrid.

You are correct. This may be the first and only set of devices w/ an OMAP 3.4 Android kernel.
For what it's worth, here's what I've been doing on the 3.4 kernel:

And there's no end in site yet. :/ The kernel sources used on the KFHD 2013 (named "soho") don't seem to be finished for the other devices (jem / tate). Tho that may change if/when Amazon rolls out the new OS to the older HD's. So until that happens I get to debug debug debug. Right now many of the major systems seem to be functional on Jem, but I'm seeing video issues that will need to be worked through.
Also, the 3.4 kernel uses a new framebuffer / hwcomposer setup for dual display which needs to be ported into the current AOSP/CM/etc sources.
Adding to the complication is wifi firmware. The new kernel uses a much higher revision of BCMDHD source and for that I will need updated firmware from Amazon most likely.
So while I'm currently working to unify all 5 Kindle's under 1 3.4 kernel, there probably won't be any usable builds for quite some time.
