what's your favourite hardware remote ? [minix neo x5] - Android Stick & Console RockChip based Computers

Do you prefer an air mouse like the rc 12
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free...yboard-RC12-for-Google-Android/672927797.html
or a logitech keyboard like the k400
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wire...1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359197540&sr=8-1&keywords=k400 ?
any feedback with minix neo x5 or other android stick/mini pc ?
thanks

I'll answer since I have an RC11, and I just recommended a Logitech K400 for a relative who has a MK802.
I also have a PS/2 keyboard/trackpad that I use with my MythTV system. It is very similar to the K400, but slightly larger.
I personally prefer the smaller device. It's not technical, it's purely logistical or ergonomics.
Finding a place to set the larger device down is inconvenient in a home-theatre setting. There's no place for it on the easy chair, and if you set it on the couch, then cat, dog, significant other, kid, relative, etc. are invariably going to sit/step on it, sending unintentional keystrokes at the least, breaking it in half at the worst (depending on weight of dog/cat/significant other, etc., OK... probably not cat, unless you have a very impressive cat.)
In a dimmed home theatre/living room, or if you're eyesight is not great, the larger key markings can be an advantage, and of course it is much easier to type on a larger device, but it is outweighed by constantly having it on your lap, or having to find some place to set it. My RC11 sits perfectly fine on the arm rest, and is not in the way when I want to get up/sit down.
The advantage of the RC11/12 is when you are *not* using it, which unless you make long-winded replies to posts on xda-developers (gee... who would do that?!) is most of the time.
The accelerometer in the RC11 can be a bit awkard/frustrating to use a times, especially when you are not used to it. Especially scrolling is easier on a track pad (such as RC12 or K400, or PS/2 keyboard).
Since I have not seen it mentioned here, I would also like to mention the RC13. Very cool since it also functions as an VoIP handset. It is a USB audio device, (not bluetooth), so it should work with sticks that support a USB audio device.
The RC13 uses internal rechargeable batteries instead of disposable batteries. IMHO, this is a disadvantage since if you find your batteries are low/dead, you either have to use it while plugged in (with a long USB cable), or just not use the whole system until the keyboard is charged.
If you have a device with disposable batteries, they can be changed in seconds.

Jasjar II wish list (maybe they'll hear this time)

New owners, what would you guys like to se on the next generation Jasjar (maybe in six month or a year from now)?
I am not tallking about the OS (thas MS part and can be rectified with updates), I mean hardware wise.
On my part:
1.) Built in FM reciever would be nice. (if the technolory is there, then why not?
2.) At least 512Mb built in mem (making it ~$20-35 more expensive, still I belive everyone that bougth it now would still do so). This in not a serious issue.
3.) Edge
4.) Full handsfree profile support (maybe this is more with software, you tell me)
5.) External LCD display for: caller id (I belive this is critical), battery level, network strenght, etc. even if its just monochrome it would be a great help.
6.) Wlan 80.11g an obvious plus
7.) I could live with 1-2cm wider but have a psion/notebook type keyboard...
...
P.S: to be correct (persay) only things that you wouldn't mind paying a little extra for, if it was included...
How about having Navigation like Mouse which we have in Nokia Communicators... which will save the time of pulling stylus and using it one hand while we hold the device in other hand.

I agree, that would realy help things like scrolling, which right now can only be done with stylus.
What I want the most is built in GPS. It's a pest having to charge up an external unit and remembering to bring all the right car adapters etc. so a built in unit would be awesome.
It would also be nice to see some of the new thin and flexible OLED type displays added which would reduce power consumption and make the displays less likely to break when dropped.
I'd also like to have a little hole on the corner of the device! I know it's not very techie, but I'd like some way of attaching a chain or cord to my device which attaches to my belt, so that if (or when!) you drop your device it wont hit the ground!
How about building in a virtual laser keyboard into the device:
www.virtual-laser-keyboard.com
On the graphics front, I'd like hardware acceleration of H.264 encoded videos (the format that's going to replace MPEG-2, MPEG-4 etc.). It would be nice if the built in camera could save in this format as well, because it would be a big space saver.
As for batteries, I wish they'd hurry up and release some of the new technology they've been talking about for years - better battery life, super fast charge times etc.
Well, you might think the Universal is the ultimate device, but there's so much more to add before I'll be happy!
-no1
my wishes
My wish list:
1. Extra rom storage like 4GB (palm now does it!)
2. A backup system like the one in Blue Angel
3. full USB hosting functionality, so we can use a usb mouse or external usb keyboard or usb mem sticks
4. vga out support so we can project on wide screen
5. firewire support
- After all if this is to be a mini laptop, let us have the full monty then instead of baby face gizmos
Me out
I really wish the following 4 most wanted and easily possible features add to JasJar. I am definitely waiting for successor of Jasjarl with follwoing and currently I'm happy with my XDAII. Current Jasjar is useless compare to my XDAII since there are only few programs works and still so many bugs/requirements in both hardware and OS.
1. FM Radio
2. 640x480 video recording with 2 or more MegaPixel Camera
3. Full Handsfree bluetooth audio(MP3 listening)
4. 800x480 screen for internet browsing.(a little longer 4.5" screen is acceptable like samsung Nexio XP30,Nokia 770).
Some other wish list
1.Video Output(RCA/S-Video/VGA)
2.Videos from Camera can transmit through wifi
3.USB hosting
4.mobile TV(DVB-H) receiver
It's interesting to revisit this thread nearly two years later as HTC release the Touch Pro that includes almost all the functionality you guys listed above. Perhaps HTC were listening after all.

what do you LIKE about your Exec

I've been toying with swapping my Exec for one of the Etens - nice unit, small, compact, rugged, with GPS, and it wouldn't cost me anything, i could swap between them, because we have lots of stuff at work - but ultimately there are things i'd miss, despite the size
So i thought i'd list them, to convince myself
1) Wireless
2) The Keyboard
3) Sensible headphone socket.
I'd LIKE a radio, which the Eten will have soon (software on the way), but i would not really use gps.
So what's on your perfect XDA?
Mobile 5
Keyboard
802.11
Radio
Bags of memory
physically robust - a turning screen with a smaller one on the "reverse" side
bluetooth can f**k off
Considering what you like in a PDA, and what you wouldn't use, you're mad to even consider swapping.
I LIKE:
Bluetooth headset
WiFi
VGA Screen
proper keyboard (well - as good as it gets)
I find irritating:
incomplete keyboard
occasional slowness
PIE
lack of outer screen
certain usability issues (eg locations of stylus/buttons etc).
What I like about my Exec is its design. I love the Laptop design, VGA screen, and keyboard. This is also the reason why I bought the Sony UX50 and UX40.
The only desire I want is added speed, nothing else.
Easy question to answer:
The form factor.
However, on the flip side:
2K3se beats WM5 for apps and stability, speed and memory usage.
The memory allotment is DISGRACEFUL.
The VGA implementation needs a kick between the legs.
The SD card and Power button are on the wrong end of the device.
The battery life could do to have some red bull.
The speakers (oh goodie, stereo) aren't as good as the (mono) one in my Alpine.
The chips in it aren't easy enough to replace.
Would it kill HTC to pay lip service (and nothing more) to MS and make it a little tricky for us to modify these devices instead of spending weeks and weeks of man hours making them almost impossible to customise?
Woudl it kill MS to let us do what we want with our own property?
Would it be too much to ask to be able to wipe off that MS crap that we have already paid for and then run Linux?
The whole HTC/MS thing is a killer. We have here a device that should take the world by storm, a baby sized laptop with built in phone. This is what we have been waiting for since the Nokia Communicator came out, isn't it? Palm tried to make it, clamshell phones are popular because of it, and the Universal is the first one to get near the ideal. But without 512MB of RAM and 1GB of storage (minimum) it will forever be a fill-in device until we can boot up our laptops.
Sorry, I'm passionate about this. I love my m5000, but life ain't fair.
When it comes to the Universal I like the
-keyboard
-great screen
-build
-stability (sounds weird, but I found it more stable than my IIs with 2k3 SE)
-Sounds great
-Proper earphone jack
-Voice dialling over BT
quite a bit more I guess.. Just my 2 cents
a small colour display on the casing would have capped this device off for me.
I like
- the form factor
- Solid build
- VGA well screen, I agree VGA in WM5 could be better utilised
- stereo speakers
- wifi
- Keyboard
- Phone functions (Out of the mpx200, 220 and mini this phone has the best reception on both ends out of the whole lot)
- 3G
Since last Qtek Rom Update 1.30.96 GER I like everything on the software side.
But the VGA feature really needs a mockup.
the keyboard is the only one acceptable until now (did you try to enter passwords consisting of letters and numbers without the number keys at the top?)
Memory is enough for my needs as I can anytime add a 1 GB SD card.
Battery could be lasting longer.

Screen size enough for meeting notes?

Hello,
If I buy a Hemes it should make a lap top obsolete, but I am worried that the screen will not be big enough for taking notes on meetings.
Does anyone here use it for meeting notes and what´s your experience from it.
Of course I will buy a foldable bluetooth keyboard to use it with.
/Danne
I often use my TyTN for taking meeting notes. It's certainly not as fast as typing on a laptop, but it's hard to beat the fact that I always have it with me
The TyTN isn't going to make your laptop obsolete. That's just crazy talk.
It is nice to have around, however.

Could you motivate your answer please?
I will of course still have my home computer still. But I don´t see any reason for having a lap top IF I can use it to take notes with.
Danne
Typing is cumbersome, but a Bluetooth keyboard might help with that. They're still kinda expensive though. Also, the screen is kinda small so referencing notes taken a moment ago might be difficult.
On the plus side, you wouldn't have to lug around a laptop (as if they're really that bad), plug it in, etc.
It just might work for these purposes.
I'd like to chip in here. I'm addicted to gadgets and the internet; I even took my laptop to the Christmas party.
I'm a trainer and I'm always on the move, going to people's offices. Now that I've got email and internet browsing set up, I'm using the TyTn more and more. It's almost become my primary device.
When I'm in my office all day, then yes the laptop comes out. But most days the TyTn gets used more. The key thing I've noticed is that at home for casual browsing I quite frequently can't be bothered to get the laptop out any more. There's a couple of sites I like to keep up with (mainly here and The Register) and I just check them out on the PDA from time to time.
I can't help you with meeting notes, Danne, as I don't do it. I would point out that you can load software to make your PDA act like a dictaphone though, which might help.
Overall I think the "laptop replacement" question rests on what you use the device for though. For some it's quite possible.
I have completely replaced my laptop with my TyTN. I have a ThinkOutside BT keyboard that I use when I'm on the road or in meetings.
Just record the entire damn meeting

That sounds good, do you use a mouse as well? Is it even possible to connect a mouse?
And I guess you never experice that the screen is too small.

I have good eyesight, so I use small fonts to maximize screen realestate. ThinkOutside's drivers include BT mouse support but I've never tried it. I wonder if it actually places a movable mouse pointer on the screen?
The ThinkOutSide keyboard has built in shortcuts for the Office apps, softkeys, Today & start button and I use these alot. Most mark/cut/copy/paste functions are available on the keyboard as well. What's nice is that I have IM (communicator mobile) and DirectPush email going. With this setup, I can dynamically respond to emails and IMs without touching the screen while the meeting's in session then easily switch back to my notes (I use PW for note taking since it has text formatting capabilities).
Having PIE available for Realtime Googling (to check the Bullsh!t factor during Vendor presentations) is nice too
Ok, thanks. Hopefully I feel the same way about the size. A am not shure what PW stands for but Word or Wordpad will probably work fine.
PocketWord?
Jepp, I guess so I do not own a smartphone yet som I don´t know about the programs.

OKAY, What's the BEST HORIZONTAL SURFACE INSTALLABLE HANDS-OFF CAR KIT on the market?

First, for those people responding - only please post replies having to do with the below four requirements, it would make it a much easier read for everyone involved, thanks. I am going nuts looking and cannot find a unit meeting the 4 below requirements. I have been looking for a long, long time. I am willing to do some extra installation work to get this done properly. If I cannot get an answer here there is probably no hope so I may then defenestrate! Requirements:
1. SMALL holder that can attach to a HORIZONTAL surface (not a huge geeky looking contraption with huge arms or snaking bendable supports, no huge sand-filled weights - minimal size - also power supply not on the holder which makes it bulky)
2. Allows the Kaiser to be switched between landscape/portrait position
3. Allows the Kaiser to be held with the keyboard open if preferred
4. Full functionality for auto-charging, interrupting radio speakers when turn by turn directions are spoken by GPS on the unit (extra wires and transformer kit to be hidden for installation - AND NO USE OF CIGARETTE LIGHTER!). Power supply for charging the unit must be OFF when car is not in use, so as not to wear out car battery (I would assume that is just an installation preference).
Anybody have any ideas?

Is there something about the Proclip holder that doesn't meet those criteria? The only thing I can find is connectivity to the stereo. For me, I redirect the GPS audio to my Bluetooth headset where I can hear it better anyway.
Yeah, Proclips is your best bet. There's nothing that does all that out-of-box on the market right now. If you want to hook it up directly into your stereo system, then of course you're going to have to do that yourself. Or use bluetooth.
I guess there is nothing on the market
The solutions from Proclip that you suggest have no way of mounting the unit on a flat horizontal surface without damaging the car - I guess I would have to use one or two of these:
http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionp...egoryid=&p_year=&p_countryid=0&p_leftorright=
from proclips to mount the holder (have to drill holes on the mounting surface).
Since the Tilt will work with the soon to be released higher capacity Micro SD cards (now only 8GB available but the tilt would be able to handle up to 32GB - when available) it would be nice to add the audio (music) as an automatically overriding input for the car's audio as well, for that I will have to use the hack mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339263
for replacing the plug on the unit with one that includes the audio out...
I will post pics once I figure out what direction I want to go with this...

A500 (or any droid tablet) as input/output device on PC

First of all, think of the ramifications for artists. Obviously there are tons of drawing apps out there, but imagine being able to use your 10" tablet as a drawing device. Obviously most tablets are not pressure sensitive, but, being able to use it as an input device would be sweeeeeeet.
Anyhow, point is, where would one begin to look into finding/making a driver to enable the A500 to be used as an input device (or output for that matter) on a windows PC?
Thoughts on the same subject line:
Use for drawing tablet
Output from pc to tablet to hdmi
throughput from pc to wireless nic for pc lacking/broken network card
Secondary display
external speakers (for pc's with broken/missing speakers)....
I don't think this or any of the capacitive touch tablets are very good for drawing. They are just not precise enough. Resistive touch is way better for drawing.

This. I have a Nokia N900 phone with resistive screen and, well, I can use almost anything to draw with it. Compared to A500 it's also very, very precise. On A500 I'd need to buy a specialized stylus that works on capacitative screens, and it'd still be imprecise due to the large block of rubber at the end.
While it may sound tempting to be able to use the A500 for such I'd still much rather recommend you to just buy a proper drawing canvas and be done with it.
