Re: [info] know your phone
So I don't see cdma radio support. So this means it's not coming to Verizon? I'm looking to buy a phone soon this year on Verizon but I don't want anything that is out right now so I'm waiting to see what's going to be released.
I hate how they keep everything a mystery with phones.

No CDMA phones from Sony right now. Verizon and Sprint are quite backwards, CDMA is in all ways inferior to GSM. It's also too small a market to be interesting to invest in for Sony right now.

Sorry? It'll be cheaper than the outright price of the S3 within a couple of months (once launch pricing settles). This is for a more powerful phone, much better screen, much better camera, waterproof etc. Go buy an S3 if you want, I don't really care.. but no need to be hatin'

You know, your post is really helpful, but for this line. Why is everyone on the Z Forums comparing it with some other phone? As if the Android/ iOS war wasnt silly enough, we now have Android/ Android wars
EDIT: Why don't you make the features into a tabular format. Maybe include the ZL to the side too? Many (like me ) are considering the ZL too.

In a couple of months the s4 will be announced. I can only assume that will be better than this specs wise at least.

It'll be announced in a couple of months, add another month before it hits the stores. The Xperia Z will be available in a month. By the time the S4 hits the market the price for the Xperia Z will have dropped and it'll most likely just be a better deal overall.

Yes, the quad A15 will be more powerful and I'm fully aware of that. However the reasons I won't buy a samsung today will still be the same when the s4 arrives (stupid plastic build, screwed up/non-existent source, terrible dev support). Some things are just more important outright power - and the S4pro is still very powerful.

In australia the S3 is only just cheaper than the price for an Xperia Z - the 4G SGSIII is actually more! The S4 will absolutely be more expensive on launch than the Xperia Z.

Eventhough the majority over here never takes a se again, i will definitely buy one as soon it hits the market here in Holland, i love the design of it and for me the specs are well enough.
Sent from my x32 using the licking write method....man I am thirsty now!
Why did they leave the ambient light sensor out? So if your standing in the sun, you need to go to the menu and turn the brightness up manually, or else you can't see a thing. Big flaw in my opinion. Someone at Sony Ericsson is making stupid mistakes. Even the old w810 had an ambient light sensor, and that was 5 years ago.
Im also convinced the SE arc is by far the best looking smartphone to date, although the specs look nice at THIS moment, they probably wont anymore once this device launches in a couple of months and as far as i know, here in belgium, such devices launch couple months later than in US.
So, by the summer, when it releases over here, this phone will be "outdated" compared to the other phones coming out in the same period.
I wont buy a SE ever again, their experience and customer service is far below standards.
My next phone will more be something like the Motorola Atrix 4G.
-2x 1ghz dual-core
-1gb ram
-HD camera
-front facing camera (although this is not really needed in my opinion)
-16gb internal + up to 32gb external
-1950 mwat battery
although it looks like overkill atm, this device will last much longer than the arc, only needs software update. (and we all know this probably wont even happen with the Arc...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8CgBdGCZk
You do have to sacrifice on the looks, but the inside will blow away every single device on the market.
I sooo damn want it

Might be an idea to update the first post then with said information, otherwise it's no different to the others that have links to the same information.
When looking at the screenshots of the UI and such I just can't get past the feeling that we X10 users should see the same improvements and tweaks as the Arc. I don't want to turn this into another SE-hatethread, but it just feels wrong. This being my first Android, and smartphone in general, I feel a bit disappointed. But well, I guess you get what you buy.
People who are getting it should be rich to spend a lot of money each 10 months SE releases a successor of their trend phone!
Unfortunately, I'm not rich but besides that, I rather to wait at least one and a half year to get a new phone. I wonder how advanced the smartphones will be by then, and what place the Xperia Arc will have in that time.
Oh, wait... It's gonna be obsolete 'cause it's gonna have a successor already in January 2012!
Seriously, Im not flaming... But I just wish good look to you guys with arc. Hope that SE doesn't do the same mistakes and gives to arc good updates, at least two Android upgrades and more time before replaces it with a new phone.

+1. No doubt it's a really nice phone, but as every other X10 owner knows they dropped the ball with this one, so I'm in no rush to go upgrade just yet.
We have all complained about the first SE android phone the x10, but if we are honest may of us will be upgrading to this baby when our contracts are up.
Lets not forgot SE's first go at the android market, the x10, has not been a bad attempt. If we are honest we all knew that they would not support it for long as they would move on very quickly to the put all they learnt into the next big hope.
And this phone is gorgeous I can quite happy to have the rubbish support, poor customer service and all the other mistakes se made because this phone looks damn good.
While XDA is around if we are honest we couldnt care less about se support as we have this place and it caters for all we need,

I highly doubt many of us will be upgrading to the Arc. From what I've been reading, many existing X10 customers who would frequent forums like this or blog/tweet about their phones (ie: those somewhat more advanced users) have already told SE to go forth an multiply.

Looks aren't everything. Sure, SE makes good looking phones, but what good is that when they saddle the usability with crapware and poor support. It's like having a Porsche with a 150hp engine, what's the point. Besides, if you keep your phone protected by any sort of case or skin, the looks don't matter much when they're covered up. If we wanted something pretty and useless with poor support, we'd by an iPhone.
I love XDA and all the hard work people here have put into improving the X10. But that doesn't excuse SE form having to support their own customers.
On a related note: I have requested with mikechannon that a Xperia Arc forum be setup so that the X10 forum can be kept to X10 discussion.

This is definitely a killer point.
I am one of those who never is going tio buy SE in my whole life, if it depends on me. Its very funny situation. no one has commented that except for the wifi n and the screen it has the same specifications as my x10.....and my x10 is not going tio have gingerbread update....
So you know, go ahead get latest SE thing and get once more outdated the first. Is there in the market any snapdragon stuck in ecclair??? oh yes my x10...
So the next year I am pretty sure if I read one topic of this "new" phone it will be about some update not being ported to arch, although it is capable of this and more.
I think no one should buy a new SE handset, till they change their customer policy. But I know it is an entellechia...

silly iphanboys must really be hiding their hate for apple right now, releasing such a minor update into the same phone from 1 year ago.
Not a chance in hell. I'm happy to see Apple sticking to their ways and just doing a bs product refresh with a couple "new" features or upgrades. Its amazing how a company can get so many idiots to buy their "new" phone. I was amazed how many idiots went from a iphone 3g to a 3gs and im sure tons will do the same here too.

Serious contender to Galaxy S 3 LG Optimus G

LG just launched its monstrously-spec'd Optimus G in its home market and it set a new performance benchmark for smartphones. The Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset that powers the beast features four Krait cores, which are all but guaranteed to wipe the floor with existing CPUs.
The LG Optimus G also impresses with its spectacular 4.7" WXGA (1280 x 768 pixels) True HD IPS Plus screen, which offers a full RGB matrix and a pixel density of about 318ppi.
LG Optimus G at a glance:
General: 2G/3G/LTE
Form factor: Touchscreen bar phablet
Dimensions: 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.45mm, 145 g
Display: 4.7-inch WXGA True HD IPS Plus (1280 x 768 pixels) capacitive touchscreen, Gorilla Glass
Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
CPU: Quad-core Krait 1.5 GHz processor
GPU: Adreno 320
RAM: 2GB

Problem is its an LG, it will be supported for 6 months after release and no more.
That's if you're lucky.

And even after that - it lags (only a few times but QUAD S4! - unforgivable), no removable battery and fugliest interface ever. It'll definitely wipe other phones... so they can look shiny and new.
Until ofc. it gets proper CM10 - THEN it'll kill.

Yeah earlier it was the case but now they have learnt the lesson and still XDA solves this problem for us.

Sorry didn't get completely what you meant to say my bad
Maybe now the s4 pro owners will be able to use emulators at full speed xD on dual crait the SoC sucked totally at this point^^ personally I dont care about this^^ my s3 int. is still better imo the only thing my phone lacks is LTE, but at the time I got it it wasnt available at europe.
I'm sorry to say this but this beat the hell out of our S3 in general...
But i'm happy for two reasons...
1)Lg's ui sucks...
And
2)When we'll have android 4.2,5.0 or whatever they'll still be stuck in the previous version as always!
As this thread is off topic and will probably be locked soon, i just wanna say i personally would forget about anything LG releases. Take a look at their 'flagship' optimus 2x and the fact that it was released when gingerbread was the latest and despite ics and jellybean's release, it is still on gingerbread today! I have absolutely zero confidence in LG in terms of android upgrades and would never recommend anyone to buy an lg android phone.
My apologies for the off topic rant.. Just felt the need to put the warning out..

Just have some patience guys. This new qualcomm chipset will start popping up in new HTC and Samsung phones. Once that happens it will be time to upgrade from the S3. For now I wouldn't even touch the LG phone.

Yup all true but if you are on XDA I don't care about official rom upgrade/support. I will personally go for best hardware there is.
Launched with Ice Cream Sandwich? Seriously?
This thing has nice specs but software and device support is also just as important.
It's running an OS that was launched October of LAST YEAR, on top of it it will have LG's nasty UI overlay.

Pointless thread....if you like LG so much what're doing on SGS3!! Madness!
No home button: Check
No wake up lag: Check (not tested yet, but no Exynos SOC means no wake up lag)
2 GB RAM: Check
Doesn't look like a plastic toy: Check
I'm torn between this LG or the new Sony Experia T, but I'll definitely get rid of this stupid piece of plastic soon.

Lol.. I hope your not talking about the SGS3..? If you are, it doesn't make you look very intelligent. "Stupid piece of plastic.." One might ask why you carry around a stupid piece of plastic or why you paid what you paid for nothing more than a stupid piece of plastic. Even if you are talking about a phone, you have a little more sense than that mate.. is that what you tell people you make phone calls on, a stupid piece of plastic?

I want an Xperia Z refresh now!

Well many OEMs are going to release ( or refresh) new phones this summer and fall and the smartphone world moves super fast. Apple is going to release the 5s, HTC the HTC One max and HTC One mini ( rumor), Samsung the Galaxy Note 3, a new Nexus will be out and LG will probably release their LG optimus G 2. The Xperia Z is a nice phone but id love to see a refresh and not wait until next year for the successor of the XZ. What i'd like to see is:
- Same body, same waterproof
- Better speakers and better placement
- Better placement of the volume rocker
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC
- Better display ( with better viewing angles, perhaps an ips)
- 2500 mah battery
I believe if Sony releases something like this it would turn a lot of heads. The Xperia Z is a nice phone but lacks certain things that can really put it in the fore front of the smartphone world. What do you guys think?

My guess is another ZS around the end of Q3, with slightly bump up CPU speed (1.5 ->1.7 gHz)
Yeeaaahhh, that Honami really looks great

- Better speakers and better placement - Dual Stereo Speakers
- Better placement of the volume rocker - Don't know about this
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC - Check
- Better display ( with better viewing angles, perhaps an ips) - Triluminos 178 degree viewing angle, 2000:1 + contrast
- 2500 mah battery - 3000mAh

That's what Honami will be. :victory:
sony probably did recognize the badly placed speakers on the Xperia Z.
there was a picture somewhere that shows the speaker placement on the Xperia Z Ultra at the bottom, like the iPhones.
There's no word on Honami's IP rating. It doesn't have flaps on the audio jack so it may not be water or dustproof.

Honami is IP58 dust/water resistant. And yes doesn't have flap for 3.5mm jack.

How would it be water resistant without the flap then? Wouldn't that cause problems since the parts of the motherboard would be directly exposed to water/dust?
Its possible
The latest Galaxy S4 active has an exposed headphone jack and is still waterproof.
?possibly same deal with the togari.

doesnt sony present their phone officialy 1-2month pre release? 26June gonna be Togari (togari only... I assume) and then we will have at least a month break before next phone is anounced. beside sony always has been the last on the market with new technologies.
well. .. at least that could change with togari....

Yes it will be sold unlocked via SonyStyle in US and may be offered by T-Mobile as well. Sprint may join in as well, but that's not very likely.
Will be in US in September, some markets will get it before that.
Togari will go on sale next month in July for Chinese market and globally by August end

It is a flagship phone to say, and they may have been first by a few months, but that meant using a lesser processor to compete with. If they could stay ahead of the others while using the latest tech, it would be a great move. Seems like that is what they are trying to do now with the honami and togari.
on a side note, seems the camera race is getting big again in phones. That's a good thing, I would like to see our phones with larger sensors.
Hmmm... Isn't the ZR sort of like a refresh already?

Sony Xperia Z2

Sony Xperia Z2 (C770X). The phone is code named Avatar and is equipped with a 5.2 inch IGZO Triluminuous Display with a 506ppi pixel density. If true, this would top the current industry leader, which is the 468ppi on the 4.7 inch HTC One. The silicon inside the phone would be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 Chipset and a multitasker's wet dream, 3GB of RAM, would be on board.
The 20.7MP rear-facing camera would support 4K video capture and a 3200mAh cell would keep the lights on. and Xenon Flash. And the Sony Xperia Z2 would give you a break as it said to run on Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Expect the new model to be on display at CES 2014 where it will have some pretty big shoes to fill. AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE ON APRIL

Sony will update their flagship every 6 months... If you want you have to buy it now. anyway processor is not updating.. ram will benefit only for multitasking. only display is updating. with that ppi it will be 2k display.. it means performance will be halved... i think it will be just some fake news with little truth

Fake rumor 100%
A site with no whereabouts published this rumor and all sites like phonearena and etc etc are spreading the rumor.
Sent from my C6602 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Even if the rumour did turn out to be true the Z1 is still one hell of a phone and won't be lacking for performance for quite a while.
I thought Sony will be giving a more "Japanese-ish" device code name. Remember the Yuga - Togari - Honami?

This "rumor" seems to be no more than someone's wet spec dream. Moving on, nothing to see here.
As for the nomenclature: avatar is a hindu concept.
the rumour missed the OIS, IR blaster and 135gm weight of the Z2
Guess im going to have to get this phone... Its codenamed after me.
I cant believe these sites are posting these "leaks." Cough cough, phonearena. I can easily just submit a tip and make a educated guess on the specs.
Achieving 500 ppi would mean putting full HD resolution on roughly a 4.6inch screen, or on a 5.2inch screen you would have to bump up the resolution to something like 2560x1440 (these are rough figures... I haven't worked it out).
Apart from boasting about large numbers, the benefit of a slightly higher PPI would be negligible and certainly not noticeable to the human eye, and the extra processing power required would probably result in a noticeable performance loss (the higher resolution has almost double the number of pixels at 3.6m compared to 2.1m).
Also, IGZO tech hasn't even made it's way onto larger sized monitors on a large scale yet. The likelihood that it'll be good to go for Sony's next flagship is small.
Clearly whoever made these up is just dreaming and has no idea about the technology behind those specs.
If it really has an IGZO display I WILL get it. But we'll have to see about that. I haven't heard anything else about it so for now it feels like a pretty unbelievable rumor.

Personally, I think, its possible for next year's september flagship to have such specs but not the Jan one at all! Also like you said, the specs are too much to expect in a short period of time... Definetly made up and I don't expect anything of this to materialise!
and here we go again!
