[Q] Unable to mount any usb key - Acer Iconia A500

Hi Guys,
I've some problems with my Iconia A500 : when I connect the usb into the host, I go in "Astro" or "Files Manager HD" and I can copy, cut, delete, add ... But once I've disconnected the usb, and when I plug again, nothing happens
I'm running on Jelly-Bean_4.1.2_CM10-FLEX from civato and he told me everything works perfectly with his device.
So I flash the Rom once again, the same problem, I try to go in ==> Settings ==> Storage, but a banner appeared on the screen " The application "Settings" Has been closed " :silly:
I try also more than 10 app with root or no permission to mount un unmout storage ==> nothing works
The only things which working today, it's when reboot the Iconia, but I'm only able to plug the USB key once , after the same problems mentionned at the top appeared.
Please Help :laugh::laugh:
Thank

Seriously ? No one ?

Most file managers have a setting you must enable for root privileges, try that maybe

[Q] Cannot root Vibrant

Phone: Samsung Vibrant
PC: Windows 7 64-bit
Latest drivers from xda installed for phone.
I've tried for over 2 hours now and rooting does not work for me.
It will not push the update.zip to my phone and my phone does not restart.
I have followed the instructions in the Rooting forum to a T.
I've turned on USB Debugging. I plug my USB cable in. My drives show up in Windows Explorer. I then run the T-Mobile Vibrant One-Click Root application in admin mode.
I click on One-Click Root and the shell runs. It says my phone should be rebooting but nothing happens on my phone. Nothing gets copied and the phone does not reboot.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I looked in the rooting thread more and people have been posting about ADB. I've checked this in my Device Manager and I have "ADB Interface" listed there with no ! on it. It says it's working properly.
Are you mounting the USB??? To get adb or other apps to work you can not have the USB connecte mounted. You said you can see it in windows explorer so I am assuming that you mounted the USB.
The mounting is happening automatically. I plug in my USB and it mounts and turned on USB Debugging. Not sure why it's doing it automatically as it never has in the past.
I'm not sure what you mean by "you can not have the USB connected"
If I can't have the USB connected then how do I do this?

You cannot have the drives mounted , if they show up in windows , adb will not work ..
Did you happen to install the winamp beta for android? , it mounts the drives.

Yes... I did.
So I uninstalled Winamp Beta. Removed the USB. Plugged it back in. This time the drives did not mount.
I tried to run the One-Click again and nothing happened.
Can anyone help? I'd really like to be able to root my phone.
Why don't you just download the. Zip file, rename to update.zip, move it to the root of your internal sdcard, reboot into recovery, then reinstall packages.
I'm not sure why you're using a PC to root.

If you search for 'root your Vibrant ' you will get step by step instructions on how to root without using a PC. That method has worked for me numerous times.

Dude,
This is what I follwed and it worked 100% for me:
1. Download update.zip file on PC
2. On your Vibrant, go to Settings > Applications > USB Settings > and select Mass Storage.
3. Connect your Vibrant to your computer, and mount as a mass storage device by pulling down the notification bar at the top of the screen.
4. Back on your computer, look for a new drive. We’re looking for the Internal Storage, not the External, so make sure you open the drive that does NOT have the Avatar movie in it.
5. Copy (drag and drop) the update.zip file to the Internal Storage.
6. Turn off the phone.
7. Hold down the volume up and down buttons while turning the Vibrant on, which will bring you to the recovery mode.
8. To navigate in Recovery, use volume up and down to move, and Power button to select. Select ‘Reinstall Packages“
9. After installed, your phone will reboot, and will have the Superuser app, as well as Busybox installed.
10. You’re Rooted!
Nikhil
Worked great until Step #7.
I tried turning the phone on holding down both the volume up and volume down buttons but no recovery console.
Disregard my previous. I got into the recovery console and I followed the instructions.
Things seem to be working. I have the Superuser app but not the Busybox one.
i need help with this as well. i just downgraded my brother's vibrant to 2.1 update1 so that i can root cuz i couldnt get it to work with 2.2. and now when i do the update.zip file it doesnt seem to work. i get a superuser app but i dont have root. idk what is going on. i have tried everything from one click root to manual rooting. whenever i go to the main recovery and hit reinstall packages the yellow bar doesnt go all the way before it says it's finished and reboots. could this be an issue? please help..

Help! Whats Wrong with my Galaxy S ?

My Galaxy wont connect with Kies ? check out this link -
.youtube.com/watch?v=Bun3DgLNsuk.
cant explain the problem properly
Try these:
While the device is pluged
Go into Device manager (type devmgmt.msc in the bar)
Look for device with a yellow " ! " and delete them.
click the home botton on the device if you can (to get out of kies connect mode)
Unplug it
reboot phone (Hold power a couple of seconds until the screen goes black) and let it reboot completely
plug it back while kies is open and see if drivers are installed properly
Okay, thanks. Will try that
That did not work, when windows cant install MTP USB-Application
can you try to uninstall kies and reinstall - update?
Does the device switch from home to kies?
I did try uninstalling Kies.
I removed the MTP Application from device manager, and now when i connect the phone it goes into MTP mode and jumps out of it again. And windows wont install the MTP driver
Looks like it's a hardware failure (with the usb connection)
Can you try on a different PC?
If not, call in for a repair and, if you want to try some of the things thei'll ask you to try, do theses:
Backup everything you have, do a hard reset (will erase everything)
*2767*3855#
then, clean all memories while in recovery mode and retry.
Try getting rid of any running applications; when I had Winamp open on my computer, it did the same thing you are talking about because it was tring to access my internal SD card.

thanks for the help this worked
*2767*3855#
then, clean all memories while in recovery mode and retry.
This happens when you have a file on your internal memory that has an extension with more than 16 characters.
I had this problem, I fixed it by putting my phone in usb debug mode and then mounting it as a drive then I could go in and find all of the files that had long extensions. Basically its any file that has more than 16 characters after the last .
I had some files that were called .thumb924839834983 or something like that. I deleted them and then I stopped having this issue.
I found this solution on xda somewhere, but I cant seem to find it now.

help in galaxy tab p1010

i recently upgraded my firmware via Kies to 2.3.6. i was all good but a problem has occured. I connected my tablet to pc via USB but there was no notification that it is USB connected. I cant access my tablet files here in my pc, cant select mass storage or samsung kies, im pretty sure that the usb cable is not a problem because the battery icon in the notification part becomes battery with thunder symbol. please help, thanks
Try this:
-Try reboot your tab, or
-Reinstall Kies on your PC, or
-Search on the configurations>conections>usb
You can always access via WiFi browse and download upload ad well, backup with drop box your images automatically add well.
But sounds like driver issues ad well so what Sam said is best uninstall and reinstall that or plug USB into different v port

Try driver update, if it doesn't work, go for re-installing...

[SOLVED] This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.

Whenever I plug in my S4, it seems fine. Drivers are installed correctly since I rooted fine and that also means the USB is fine.
The problem arises when I try to copy any file to my phone. It plugs in, allows me to switch it between Camera (PTP) and Media Device (MTP). I have tried turning USB Debugging on and off when transferring files and on both Camera and Media Device.
When I copy a device into any folder or the main card or phone directory, it starts copying, the green bar stops and then after a second the following message comes up:
"This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."
It allows me to Stop copying or Skip this file... which is the only file.
Any ideas on what is causing this and what I could do to try and fix it?
Use a different cable or usb port. Something is causing the phone to stop communicating with the computer. Also, make sure you don't have any power saving features enabled that may be turning of power to the usb port in Windows.
I've tried that and it still has the same issue.
Just unrooted and performed a factory reset. My phone is totally stock and doesn't allow me to copy any files onto it.
Does anyone have any idea?
[SOLVED]
Solved this by taking out my SD card, restarting my phone, putting the SD card back in and formatting it.
You can format by going into Settings > More > Storage > (Scroll to bottom) Format SD Card
That's right, it was not easy to find... Thanks!

Effectively, you have to turn off the ENERGIE ECO on your Tablet.
another way to see that the SDCARD is not responding, is to browse inside the Folders. They seems to be empty.

i was getting the same problem,so i uninstalled the driver and then connected the mobile .
secondly i also have installed wondershare mogile go on my mobile and pc , so when i connected my mobile to pc after uninstalling the driver the mobile go pop up came up for usb installation and it asked for installing the usb driver for mobile go ,it asked me to swithonn the usb debugging ,and it installed the driver then it just worked fine .
may be it was a mobile go problem (any software) or Driver Problem but it helped so no need to format, reset or remove your card . just try this and tell wat helped.thank you.
This is a Driver Problem.
All I had to do was plug the usb cable into the usb port that i installed the device to. My PC won't read the phone right from any other USB port. I hope this helps
Im not sure if this thread is too old or not, just wanted to give my imput on the matter, so I ran into this issue just today but i had never had it before, turns out it was the file, I did everything I could think of : played around again with the USB port selective suspend feature and it wasnt that, plugged into other USP ports, want that, untill I tried copying something else and BINGO, the file got copied, so I tried with a folder full of different files like word, excell APK files etc...and they all went through fine, so next i tried a lange file a movie and it went though fine. the file in question was a nighlyROM apparently it was corrupt, or didnt download properly. So my suggestion is to check if you can copy or transfer other files.:good:
it didn't work for me
you have to fix permissions
it happened to me on my gt-n7100 (Galaxy Note II ) with android 4.4.2, you have to install TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project see how then reboot into recovery select ''advanced'' hen ''Fix Permissions'' that worked for me
you can use chmod to fix this it works too

This did it for me. I already had TWRP installed and after quickly doing this I was able to copy to/from my SD card. It also fixed the problems I was having copying/moving things from internal storage to the SD card using ES.
FYI, It also caused XPosed to break until I rebooted again.
THANKS SO MUCH!
Doing this now, thanks so much! Wonder why that happens.
Didn't work unfortunately. Other files seem to be moving over just fine. All except this 1.6GB file (checked space, that's not the issue), where I cannot send either to Internal or SD Card. Maybe it's a corrupt file?

Yeah! Exactly! I was trying to copy an unfinished movie that was still downloading in torrent. It was stuck at 98.8% and it was playing fine in my computer. Only this file was not copying in my phone. and anyways i couldn't get it to my phone because it never downloaded 100% due to lack of peers, and i could copy other files. This means MTP mode does not allow to copy corrupt or half files and there is no mass transfer mode now a days...
---------- Post added at 08:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:52 PM ----------
I was able to copy the unfinished file by mounting External SD in TWRP btw....

This is the answer to this thread!
Guys this is dumb but instead of moving the file that wasn't working onto my SD card, I just moved it to my phone and it worked the first time.
Another fix - go to usb options, set to use as USB 3.0 device
Since this is the first thread that seems to come up when I googled the issue, I'll post the fix here...
though I'm on a Galaxy S5, not the S4. I'm guessing it's the same deal.
When I plugged in with USB and tried to copy a 1.2 gig file, it gave me the error message, though many large files had worked in the past.
I tried a reboot, pulling the SD card, and making sure my USB hubs didn't have the "let windows shut this off to save power" option checked.
So I tried pressing the "Connected as a media device via USB" notification when I slide the notification bar down. There are 3 options, MTP, PTP, or USB 3.0.
I changed to USB 3.0 and the file copied fine, and much faster too, about 1.5 or 2 minutes for 1.2 gigs.
This actually works.... - Raj

MTP is failing to work after a hack attempting to enable USB mass storage connections

Subject: (SOLVED) MTP is failing to work after a hack attempting to enable USB mass storage connections.
ABBREVIATIONS USED HEREIN
"NOTE3":
- Verizon Galaxy Note 3
- SM-N900V (JSS15J.N900VVRUBMI9)
- Android 4.3
- Successful Root de la Vega <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481590> (thank you very much)
"NOTE0":
- AT&T Galaxy Note
- SAMSUNG-SGH-I717
- Successful root The Unofficial (by Flappjaxx and The Collective) (thank you very much)
- Android 4.0.3 after the root (I forgot what it was before; 3.0?)
"PC":
- Windows 8
- Using USB 3.0 port with USB 3.0 cable to NOTE3
SYNOPSIS
USB mass storage (block transfer mode) works on NOTE0 but not on NOTE3. I've read that this removal of USB mass storage is a new feature of Android 4 but that it may still work for external SD cards. It does NOT work on my Note 3, neither internal nor external SD, but it does work for both internal and external SDs on NOTE0. It seemed to me that perhaps MtpApplication.apk was the culprit, so I set about copying that application from NOTE0 to NOTE3.
CREATING THE FAILURE
- Ran 'adb backup ...' from PC.
- Copied MtpApplication.apk from NOTE0 to NOTE3.
- Mounted /System RW.
- Moved original "/System/app/MtpApplication.apk" to a safe location.
- Deleted "/System/app/MtpApplication.odex". I figured the new file would be dexified when first run.
- Copied NOTE0's MtpApplication.apk to NOTE3 "/System/app/MtpApplication.apk".
- Set -rw-r--r-- root root on MtpApplication.apk.
- Mounted /System RO.
- Rebooted.
- Got "Android is updating" notice.
- Connect to PC.
- + The normal Installer CD drive appeared in Windows Explorer for several seconds.
- + The device "N900V" did not appear as it always has in the past. There are no references to NOTE3 in Windows Explorer.
- + Reinstalled Samsung device drivers on PC and rebooted PC.
- + Rebooted NOTE3.
- + No change. The MTP application has the three checkboxes for MTP, PTP, and USB 3.0, and the check can be moved to each, but there is no apparent communication between NOTE3 and Windows Explorer. The notification tray does show the normal "Click here to change USB connection mode" or whatever it normally says. The Installer does run as before but it is not now followed by the Explorer link to "N900V". No apparent difference with debug mode enabled on NOTE3. Debug bridge (adb.exe) works fine.
ATTEMPTING THE REPAIR
- Mounted NOTE3 /System RW.
- Deleted "/System/app/MtpApplication.apk".
- At this point I noticed that the "MtpApplication.odex" file was NOT created.
- Copied original "MtpApplication.apk" back to "/System/apk/".
- Set "-rw-r--r-- root root" on "MtpApplication.apk".
- Mounted /System RO.
- Rebooted.
- I didn't notice if the "Android is updating" notice appeared. Maybe I wasn't looking.
- At this point all is the same as under "Connect to PC" above. Still a failure.
- Still no "MtpApplication.odex".
- Ran 'adb restore ...' from PC.
- Rebooted NOTE3.
- At this point all is the same as under "Connect to PC" above. Still a failure.
- Still no "MtpApplication.odex".
- Installed and ran OdexerTool (13-11-2013) by MatrixDJ96, 'sysapp' command. System applications, including MtpApplication.apk were odexed or reodexed. MtpApplication.odex now exists.
- Rebooted.
- "System is updating dialog with an incrementing counter.
- At this point all is the same as under "Connect to PC" above. Still a failure.
WINDOWS DEVICE MANAGER
Windows Device Mangler shows a device with errors:
. ---------------------------------------------
. Portable Devices
. SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device
. ---------------------------------------------
Properties on "SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device" shows:
. ---------------------------------------------
. This device cannot start. (Code 10)
.
. The process hosting the driver for this device has terminated.
. ---------------------------------------------
It remains that way after uninstalling and reinstalling the Samsung drivers and after a reboot while standing on my toes facing east with my right arm extended above my head and screaming "WOM-A-TOOMA WOM-A-TOOMA WOM-A-TOOMA".
This was NOT a solution:
Found the key "UpperFilters" and deleted that key, unplugged and plugged and still no MTP, PTP, or USB 3.0 connection.
None of the devices under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" show an error.
REQUEST
- What did I do wrong?
- How do I undo that wrong?
- + Should I reapply the Root de la Vega? (Is that like a Spock Lock?)
- * How?
CONTINUING ATTEMPTS TO RECOVER
The next thing I hope to try is to unroot/restore, then root again with de la Vega, but the only unroot/restore instructions I can find are for retail locked devices.
- Found a stock ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46424497&postcount=1) and flashed it. Success on the flash but still no connection with Windows File Explorer.
- Flashed Root de la Vega again. Success.
SUCCESS!
Problem solved. Windows File Explorer again shows the .SM-N900V icon and it is usable. Flashing the stock system should have fixed it so perhaps I just didn't reboot enough or didn't wait long enough after the devices installer program finished.
I sure hope someone gives us USB mass storage so I can work directly with the device's file system because MTP and Explorer are not suitable for the work I wish to do. The debug bridge might work but it is nearly as cumbersome as MTP.

I'm only making a guess that MtpApplication.apk is where UMS is enabled and I have no idea if a copy from Note0/4.0.3 will function on Note3/4.3, but it seems to me that it should work.
Prior to the attempt at importing MtpApplication.apk I tried bringing GoogleTTS.apk from my Note0 to my Note3 and it also failed. It appeared in Settings as an option along with the Samsung TTS engine but when I enabled it Settings reported an error with the package.
Should I have odexed first? For both MtpApplication.apk and GoogleTTS.apk?
Can anyone offer some guidance on this? My problem is that I cannot use Google Play because I cannot or will not agree to their privacy statement, so I have disabled all the relevant Play applications and I download only applications I can find on freeware sites.
