What is less battery drain method ??? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I want help from u....I'm planing to get N7...
.I want to know what is less battery draining method to using the internet on N7
using wifi network or use of 3g usb dongle via USB ON THE Cable ????
what is best method ?/
thanks

WiFi is best. You can do a test yourself, 3g will give you probably at least an hour less battery life if not more. This is my experience from using WiFi and 3g on a phone. That dongle may be quite thirsty too.
I have a little box which the dongle plugs into and creates a wireless hotspot. It's battery powered, lasts about 5 hours and is something I bought for use with my laptop.

ya mate...im also planning to buy that mifi router..I have 3g usb dongle i can connect it to router and it works as wifi hostpot.....I asked this for we can use 3g usb dongle directly via OTG cable...but i think it'll drain N7 battery very fast compared to using wifi hostpot...

Wifi of course!
I just tether mine to my phone, works great. Now... the phone battery on the other hand! :silly:

ya mate..phone battery is drain like fast and furious

[Q] Charging with a non-Samsung USB cable

So a buddy of mine told me today how his Samsung Moment can't hold a charge for more than 2 hours, the reason being that he's been using non-Samsung USB cables and apparently his phone doesn't like that.
This worried me because I use a Nokia USB cable that I have fixed to a port in the back of my desktop PC to easily connect/charge the phone while at my computer, in addition to using the Samsung one overnight, and a non-Samsung car charger when using Google Nav.
Now, I flashed JK6 a few days ago, and I've gotta say my battery life really isn't as stellar as everyone's saying it should be. My phone's been on for going on 8 hours now and I'm already down to 29%, with pretty moderate usage. No gaming, no GPS/bluetooth/WiFi, or anything fancy like that. Just some texting and web browsing. So, I'm a little worried I'm ruining my phone as well. Does anyone else seem to have short battery life that also happens to use non-Samsung USB cables to charge?
I use my cable from my Mytouch Slide and it works fine to charge up. I get about 10 hours of life on moderate usage.
Cable is fine...they all work the same overall (use a cable/watt/volt thingy to check).
That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks guys!
All cables (99% of the time) are the same quality...all from asia (not a bad thing).

Can i use a USB 3G stick with OTG on the nexus?

before signing up for another data line, was wondering if i can use a otg cable and stick a 3G usb stick to use data on the go
would this thing drain my battery too quick if it does work?
any experience and input are appreciated.
Might be better to get one of those mobile hotspot things where it has it's own battery...if you can. I would guess even if it can work, it would drain your battery very quickly.

In theory it could but in practice it wouldn't be viable. Better off tethering if you can.

thanks all, i tend to tether so much that i wind up with a dead battery on my phone when i am on the road
i'd suppose i can get another cheap 3G phone for tethering only thanks!
U can otg--- > USB cable--->phone.... I found my n7 will charge my thunderbolt for situations where I can't get to a car or ac charger. Haven't tested what a full charge would take timewise/toll-wise on n7 and I would assume your phone battery might keep draining even while leeching power from the n7 if you are tethering and using heavy bandwidth

well.....wouldnt that drain your tablet then? lol, kinda defeating the purpose now
Yes troll it would drain your tablet but not as much as a 3g dongle through USB. Did you even read the thread? What do you think the "purpose" is? I didn't say its ideal I said for situations where your phone is about to die from tethering and you need a little charge. Just trying to help.
Since wii're throwing out ideas, I picked up a 5000mA battery charger for $25. It was on sell, so don't expect that price. My Nexus 7 doesn't accept the charger for some reason, but my phone would charge from it. So you can tether and always be able to charge your phone. The thing I have is about the size of a MiFi thingy. LoL!! I think they're going for about $60+ now. Since my E4GT has a 1800mA battery, I technically have 3 batteries with a remainder of 1400mA. That's practically 4 batteries. LoL!! =.P
I bought something "like" this. Looks very much alike except it wasn't from China and it had a 1A and 2.1A port. And I have no idea where "solar" is even coming from. The one I have has nothing "solar" about it. LoL!!

Obvious asshat is obvious. The guy points out a fatal flaw in your thinking and suddenly he becomes a troll? You need to brush up on your definition of troll.

Do solar powered battery packs like that even exist?

Is it possible to use the Nexus 10 to recharge the smartphone?

As the title says, I'd like to do this, use the smartphone as a wifi hotspot for the nexus 10, but since the hotspot drains the battery heavily, and its likely that when ill turn the tablet on, the smartphone has already been on for many hours, id like to know if it would be possible to connect the two with a cable, so that the smartphone gets some power from the tablet's battery, thus prolonging the smartphone's battery life for the day.
Thanks all!
No, I tried with my nexus 7 and it would not turn on for 3 hours

What the phone you charge ?
It may work with an OTG cable so the tablet is pumping juice and not receiving..
Back in the day my XOOM could power a 2.5" WD Passport HDD, or charge my HTC Desire. Got rid of it before I could test it on my SGS2 and SGS3 and Galaxy Note though.

Will the nexus 10 support otg? I heard that otg support for the nexus 7 is somewhat limited or something...
I'm using the OTG cable for connecting my hard drive (powered) and ps3 control pad to it. Works perfectly fine

Nexus 4 - Xbox 360 charging problem

Hi guys,
currently having a problem with my xbox 360 charging my Nexus 4...
basically i put my nexus on charge (usb cable from xbox 360) over night and it clearly said its charging, so i woke up the next morning and the battery % was as i left it, but it still clearly says charging? this has happen to me twice this week... has anyone else had a problem like this?
forgot to mention, i have always charged my mobile devices using the xbox 360 and never had any problems before...
Maybe try other cables?
I have had similar issues with phones in the past where certain cables worked and some didn't.
accidently gave u a thx I had this problem with all my phones trying to charge them with my PS3 or PC. With my PS it charged 1-2% and with my PC a bit slower than normally. I think its the bad electricity supply over usb

true, it could be... but i charge my samsung galaxy s2 using same method and that charges up fine without problems...
I have no problems with my 360'
But why would you keep your Xbox running at night to charge your iPhone??
Better use a wall charger. It charges faster, and is cheaper..

weirdly i dont leave the xbox on... the usb ports are still live when it is switched off and because of that reason, i use it to charge my phone.
PS its a Nexus not an iPhone lol

I had similar issues while charging through my laptop, My phone would say charging, meanwhile it would be discharging
I think it has to do with the phone using more power than the port is giving out. Basically some apps you have one your phone is using so much battery that the charger is not charging because the required power to run the phone is greater than the charge is giving. I'm thinking this is becasue the phone has so much RAM that all the background apps are using more and more power. It's like charging a Laptop through your Xbox USB port, the laptop uses WAY too much power for it to be getting charged through a measly USB port.
Nonetheless, I stopped charging my phone through my laptop and just plugged it in the wall. It charges way faster anyway (my charging usually takes 2 hours when it's really low to full battery)
Even if it does charge, it's not likely to charge well; the Nexus 4's charger is 1.2 amps. The Xbox USB ports likely put out less than half that. Unless you have an S model, in which case the rear "Kinect" port is "high-powered," which likely means 1.0 amps.
I'm charging off my AirPort Extreme without issue...albeit it slow. Since I charge at night, it's a non-issue. OP, have you tried swapping USB cable?
Does the Xbox 360 temporarily disable its USB port if you try to pull to much power from them?
The Nexus 4 requires more than what is supplied...
uberSlackr could be right, normal usb ports are 5volts,500mah, so 5 volts standby, you should be able to charge even at a slow rate, windows 7 has an option to turn off usb ports to save power unless you disable it.maybe xbox has a similar power saving function.
samsung s2 max charging rate is at 650mah, my nexus charger is 1.2amps, so 1 amp draws too much.

yes, i've tried changing the cable and its the same... i believe the comments above have explained it much clearly to me and make me understand why its not charging (xbox usb being 500 mah and the phone needs 1.2 amp... so looks like i will have to use my wall charger from now on)
i appreciate the help guys!! :good:

[Q] Wireless charging speed?

Do any of the wireless Qi chargers out there work fast enough to outrun the power drain of a phone in heavy use? I've been considering hacking together a car charger version and wondered if they charged fast enough to keep up with using bluetooth, gps, and heavy data use?
Thanks
