Hi guys,
currently having a problem with my xbox 360 charging my Nexus 4...
basically i put my nexus on charge (usb cable from xbox 360) over night and it clearly said its charging, so i woke up the next morning and the battery % was as i left it, but it still clearly says charging? this has happen to me twice this week... has anyone else had a problem like this?
forgot to mention, i have always charged my mobile devices using the xbox 360 and never had any problems before...
Maybe try other cables?
I have had similar issues with phones in the past where certain cables worked and some didn't.
accidently gave u a thx I had this problem with all my phones trying to charge them with my PS3 or PC. With my PS it charged 1-2% and with my PC a bit slower than normally. I think its the bad electricity supply over usb

true, it could be... but i charge my samsung galaxy s2 using same method and that charges up fine without problems...
I have no problems with my 360'
But why would you keep your Xbox running at night to charge your iPhone??
Better use a wall charger. It charges faster, and is cheaper..

weirdly i dont leave the xbox on... the usb ports are still live when it is switched off and because of that reason, i use it to charge my phone.
PS its a Nexus not an iPhone lol

I had similar issues while charging through my laptop, My phone would say charging, meanwhile it would be discharging
I think it has to do with the phone using more power than the port is giving out. Basically some apps you have one your phone is using so much battery that the charger is not charging because the required power to run the phone is greater than the charge is giving. I'm thinking this is becasue the phone has so much RAM that all the background apps are using more and more power. It's like charging a Laptop through your Xbox USB port, the laptop uses WAY too much power for it to be getting charged through a measly USB port.
Nonetheless, I stopped charging my phone through my laptop and just plugged it in the wall. It charges way faster anyway (my charging usually takes 2 hours when it's really low to full battery)
Even if it does charge, it's not likely to charge well; the Nexus 4's charger is 1.2 amps. The Xbox USB ports likely put out less than half that. Unless you have an S model, in which case the rear "Kinect" port is "high-powered," which likely means 1.0 amps.
I'm charging off my AirPort Extreme without issue...albeit it slow. Since I charge at night, it's a non-issue. OP, have you tried swapping USB cable?
Does the Xbox 360 temporarily disable its USB port if you try to pull to much power from them?
The Nexus 4 requires more than what is supplied...
uberSlackr could be right, normal usb ports are 5volts,500mah, so 5 volts standby, you should be able to charge even at a slow rate, windows 7 has an option to turn off usb ports to save power unless you disable it.maybe xbox has a similar power saving function.
samsung s2 max charging rate is at 650mah, my nexus charger is 1.2amps, so 1 amp draws too much.

yes, i've tried changing the cable and its the same... i believe the comments above have explained it much clearly to me and make me understand why its not charging (xbox usb being 500 mah and the phone needs 1.2 amp... so looks like i will have to use my wall charger from now on)

Guys I am having problems with the USB Charging, it seems to drain the 100% charged battery quicker (while using the phone, unplugged NOT charging) like one day and I have to charge the phone again, But when i charge my phone (100% charge) using the wall charger my phone lasts two and a half days. My wife also said she experiences the same thing with USB charged HTC Trinity Phone. I have tried on different computers and laptops as well but still the same and i know that USB charging will take longer to charge (500mah) so i leave the phone over night like 9 hours but the phone drains like juice. What kind of a Phenomenon is this.. Guys i need your humble thoughts and solutions on this because this is becoming a big problem for me since i use USB charging mostly... Plus I am not a very hardcore app, wifi or games user on the phone either... Darn...

I don't know why but i meting with the same problem. No idea why this happening it should be same from electric perspective.
When the phone cahrges via computer USB, the phone charges at a rate of around 90mA due to the phone running. Try with the phone off

Battery indicators do lie.
it all depends upon if your board can deliver enough current to run the phone and charge it. on my rig i see no difference between wall charger and laptop or desktop charging
the laptop is a studio 15 with an i5 and h55 chipset and the desktop is a core 2d machine with a p45 series chipset.
you can tell the phone to disable usb charging if the phone is on while connected to usb to see if that helps (it will still charge via USB if the phone is off)

any usb not from china will give about 500mah, whether it be my i7 laptop or z550 vaio, so specific components shouldn't matter.
usb charges a little slower, but no reason it should not last as long once its got all the amps it can take. weird situation man...my huge list of htc phones never had an issue, and i do use a work computer to charge via usb sometimes

Weird... Yeah thats the thing i am also using a Core i7 930 CPU and my motherboard is ASUS ROG Rampage III Gene board, so i don't think my system is the problem here...
The wall charger delives 2 amperes to our HTC phones while usb ports delivery only 500mA (0,5 amperes). It's not only a matter of charging slower but you can't deliver the full charge the battery needs to revert the chemical process of discharging when tou use usb port. With 2amperes the charging process reachs it's maximum.

some cheap mainboards cannot supply even 500ma. a good qaulity board can supply more.
want to test it? put your HD2 in the first USB port and then put a high power device like a wireless dongle or external USB HDD in the second and see what happens. if your board cannot power both, you'll drop your wireless/hdd connection when you plug your phone in.

Sir I have said that I am not a very heavy phone using guy, I am an average phone user. Plus I dont use the 3g or data connection here in my country since the connections are snail slow and prices are over the head and there is no unlimited data package here yet. I use the Wifi sometimes to update my twitter, Rss hub, facebook, weather tabs and very little market place... So my phone lasts for two and a half days when i use the wall charger.
Oh yeah and Guys, i tried recalibrating the battery by using it till the phone died completely and recharging it with USB (phone turned off) for like a day but still it drains faster than the wall charger rate.... I dont understand really...

This is why. The awnser was given, but people ignored it. To fully charge a battery it needs more amperes. Use the wall charger. The battery indicator lies, and is unable to acuratly measure a fully charged battery. It'll display 100% when it's roughly 70%.
Our batteries use Lithium ions as means of electricity. They use a Lithium compound, and move the ions from the negative to the positive pole. When there are no more ions to move, our batteries are discharged. When we connect to an external power source, the higher voltage will draw the ions back to the "negative pole".
USB supplies 500 mA (that's 0.5A) @ 5V (per specification, some motherboards won't be able to go that high, depending number of USB devices connected, etc)
European electrical sockets supply up to 2.5A @ 230V and although your HTC charger should only output 1A @ 5V, the topping off will occur much quicker.
Basically the more you have to charge, the more time it takes, and the bigger the effort on the current to pull the remaining ions back to the negative pole.
I am finding that in Android, my phone will not charge with either wall or usb charging. The phone shows that it is charging but does not actually charge. This is really unacceptable. It works in Windows Mobile but is not a listed problem of the Android builds. Are all of you using WM6.5 or Android? Or both?

I can Charge my HD2 well on both OS's but still when compared to android and WinMo when i use the USB Android does discharge heavily than WinMO and Android does the same when compared to WinMO on wall charger use as well... So nothing much more to say at that...
Charging mobiles using USB takes alot longer than using power outlet and this is valid for all kind of mobiles, ALSO when you charge by USB your mobiles battery drains much faster than charging from power outlet. (Electrical Engineers say so).
NOW why you don't use power outlet to charge your HD2 rather than using USB?
There are safety measures in charging from USB like, static issues from wall charger in some countries and then there is the ease of use from charging from PC while you are at work or away on a business trip..

Mine lives for 5 days on just 1 charge, and with normal use (every 2/3 hours updating weather and twitter, sometimes call, sometimes texting, sometimes using internet)
Is it alright to have the SGT plugged into a USB port all day (approx 9hrs) ? I'd like to have it keep its charge (maybe even gain a little) while I'm at work so I can have a decent amount of juice for the trip home and until i go to bed. Or is this a good way of burning out my battery real quick? Thoughts?
Oh and as a side note on USB charging, I was able to get from 15% to 99% in 7hrs with the screen off the whole time.
Is it a slow-charging USB port? Or is it a powered hub? If I'm not mistaken, slow-charging a lithium-ion based battery pack is actually better for its life as opposed to rapid charging.
Its the regular port on the PC not even high speed usb so i guess it isn't powered.hmm guess the charging part is OK..but what about leaving it plugged all day even if the battery is at 100%?

All usb ports are powered by definition. They can supply up to 500ma (half an amp). Dont worry about leaving your tab plugged in, devices are smart enough these days not to overcharge the battery.

Coda is right, technically they all have power . If not, how would any device charge? I guess I really meant to say USB ports charge at a higher MA or something for rapid charging (wall-socket USB adapters?).
Also, Coda is right again. Devices these days are fairly smart. I typically leave my HD2 plugged in all the time with no problems.

ive been part-charging mine at random intervals (sometimes for 20 mins at a time a few times a day) and leaving it charging over a day from both powered hub and charger over about five months... though i have had two or three near total discharges
the battery has got better, which is what you would expect from the tech - sammy even provides a nice notification telling you the device is fully chraged
i wonder if they put that in there to account for unexpected battery problems down the line? in any case, ive read that low-powered charging, even unregistered by the battery, will increase the lifetime of the battery and also charge at approximately the same rate... ive seen this with my phones charging over pc usb

I think it is OK. I bought a 2d adapter, one for the office. Since Sammy is selling docks, it also means that it can be powered all times. On the other hand I remember my Archos which I used to leave it on its dock all times... battery was killed in a short time. When you sell multimedia charging docks it means that you can leave it there, no? Not in the case of Archos.

I'm looking forwards to the pogo-pin chargers/docks being released, which will hopefully charge a bit faster! If anybody knows how to hack something together to make use of the faster charging speed on the pogo connection then please do share! :good:
Of course, you have to look at the amperage and watt of your power supply. Even among the AC powered chargers, they vary greatly, and here you are talking about charging this behemoth with a measly powered USB.

Not messed up, just physics. There's an awful lot of resistance in a 9000MaH battery, and a standard microUSB (or even full-sized USB) connector can't handle the amperage that a faster charge would require. Which is why most big tablets had proprietary connectors up to this point.
But guess what? Google and Samsung knew this, it's why the N10 has one too, we just don't have the cable for it yet.
Pogo charger is coming, supposed to be at least twice as fast. Don't know why it was delayed, but most likely either a certification issue, or worry about Apple suing for it being too much like a Mag Safe connector.

I don't even charge phones via normal USB on PC anymore, let alone a tab. I've found the charging time on the N10 to be ok, provided the screen is off and also if I'm downloading something it seems to slow the charging down. Other than that it's not lightning fast, sure, but I'm ok with it. And so much the better when they release the pogo charger.
charged mine over night yesterday from 10% to full wall mains, but when the screen is one it doesn't seem to charge just maintains current charge which is a bit annoying

Try turning anything that uses power off (i.e)...turn the screen brightness the lowest it will go, turn the tablet on airplane mode. Turn the sounds off.
I find that helps my phone charge faster, maybe this will help with the tablet.
Are you talking about charging via USB on a PC, or via the PSU?
Through the PC will be very slow at a maximum of 500mA, but the PSU should be able to power it? My N7 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 had 2A chargers - what does the N10 come with?
I am regretring more and more buying this. I haven't received mine yet but the amount of pixels is kind of ridiculous. I would have been happy with 1920x1200 with that beasyly hardware. Saw a review that said their battery only lasted 4 hours because of the insane power the screen sucks away.
Also the fact that this pogo charger will probably cost $50+ and it is something that should have been standard either way.

Yeah charging is slow, though not as bad as 20% in 6 hours! I think mine was charging faster than that even when I was using it. I think trade off is worth it though with the microUSB connector.
The iPad 3/4 is no better... Takes forever to charge

It's nice to know that we have the Pogo pins option for faster charging. It makes me feel better now going through with my decision to get N10. I am a heavy media/game consumption guy so this device is perfect for my needs.

I must say I would hate to spend an extra $55 (assumed price) for a pogo charger for a tablet I've already spent $550 (tax+ship)

When I first got the phone I fully charged it with the wall charger and it charged at normal speed and when I went to the battery menu it said charging (AC) Later on I plugged it into my computer so that I could put some music on it and ever since then when I plug it into the wall it says charging (USB) and its slow as hell to charge. Basically unusable for day to day use. So far I have tried multiple chargers, factory resets, and restarting the phone with the charger plugged and unplugged. Also, when I plug the phone into the computer now it just charges and does not show up as a device or anything. I have contacted Google about a replacement, but god knows when I will get one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bro, the PC USB output is much less than 1.2 ampere output provided by the wall charger.... Lessee ampere means slow charging.... Charge with wall charger

Sounds like there is a setting for the USB connection like with the HTC Flyer where you tell it the kind of connection you want to use. Whether you want connect to pc or charge only. For the Flyer it will charge a little when connected to a computer but if you want to just charge it via the wall charger you need to select charge only.

Did you even read his post? The phone thinks its charging over USB when its plugged into the wall and is charging slowly. Something is definitely wrong.

Sorry I guess I should have phrased better, I am aware that USB charging speeds are way slower but the issue is that when plugged into a wall charger, the phone thinks it is charging through USB and charges ridiculously slow.
Is this happening with the charger and cable that came with the phone? If so, I'd try to RMA it. Google should have stock to cover warranty purposes.

Yep. Happening with the stock charger any every other one I have tried. Got an rma for it and the shipping estimate was the 25th but now it switched to pending. Don't know if that is good or bad
Try a factory reset, settings > backup & reset > factory reset. Missed it in your original post but it wouldn't hurt to try it again if you're gonna RMA it.

Get a multimeter. Check for continuity on the middle two contacts of the USB charger. (While unplugged)
You should have continuity. If you do, blame the phone. If you don't, blame the charger.

My nexus4 yesterday have the same error, only charge USB mode (original 1.2a , sony 1,5a and samsung 1.0a chargers) but today charge AC mode
May be when is hot only charge in USB mode?
Thanks guys, I guess I will try out the multimeter thing and report back. Finally got a full charge into it over night so maybe that was all it needed. I will report back with any solutions I find in case anybody else develops this problem.

Mine says USB right now. It must be temperature based. Odd they would change it from AC to USB. I would have gone the warning message route. E.g. "Stop using your phone if you ever want it to charge. 'AC - slow' charge now enabled."

Or borrow another charger to test the same issue. You could even see if it's the cord or adapter by swapping them as well.
I let my phone cool off. It went back to AC charging. Definite temperature issue. Just odd is says USB/AC and not hot/cold.

Finally I have found my problem, was the original LG cable, with other Samsung usb cable works fine and always chage AC mode.
I have phoned to google support and don't change the charger or cable only, they change all the box (phone and charger)

Glad you guys are able to solve your charging problems. My problem definitely goes deeper than a heating up issue. I have left my phone on charge without use for hours on many different charger setups (mix between LG, Motorola, and stock adapters and cables) and cannot get it out of USB mode. Still No sign of my replacement phone either. I also cannot get more than 7 hours of battery life out of the thing even with data, GPS, and sync off and screen on the lowest brightness. I think I just got an all around lemon /:

So it's the second time i'm experiencing this ill have my phone plugged into my laptop next to me overnight and I wake up and it only has 4% battery but it says it's been charging all night. . It's got me stumped cause it's been plugged into my laptop the whole night idk how it only has 4%
Some laptops and some ports on laptops do not put out enough power to charge devices.
If you look at your battery settings does it show that it hits 100% and then drains or it doesn't charge at all? I know on mine it will charge all night then get to 100% and then drain and not recharge.

I've been having the same problem on my iMac. I know for a fact they are powerful enough to charge a device. lol
The standard specs for a USB port are for 0.5A output for usb2 and 0.9A for usb3.
The charger for the nexus is rated at 1.2A, usb3 should charge just slower but usb2 may not be enough.

I have the same problem. I've got my N4 connected via USB to my laptop overnight. That's how I've always charged my other phones. But it seems like it won't work with this phone...
Mine charges OK when USB tethered so far. Windows 7 64bit.
