[Q] AOKP JB 4.1.2 - How to change hardware keyboard layout to german? - Milestone 2 General

Hello everybody,
two days ago I found this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906026) and installed it - successfully ... so far. The rom works much better than my previous one (tezet's CM10) and has even more options. But I can't get one thing working. It's the layout for the hardware-keyboard. I can type but online letters from a-z. Z and Y are correct positioned (as on the german keyboard) but when I press alt oder left-shift and then try to type a number or a special character, nothing happens except that two little arrows appear at top and bottom of the cursor pointing to its center.
What I tried to solve this problem:
- Changed languages at the settings-panel to german whereever I found such a setting
- Installed this layout-file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32586129&postcount=35
- Extracted, copied and overwrote all files from the folder /system/usr/keylayout off of the rom I used before where everything worked fine
Unfortunately since I'm new to this site I do not yet have privileges to post right in the thread of that rom. So I'm sorry I opened another one. I hope for sympathy and help.
Big thanks in advance,
parameta

Sorry if my answer will be of little help, but here it goes.
I understand that you cannot access any special character without Alt. Have you tried by long-pressing a button ?
Furthermore, the QWERTZ keyboard is not supported yet for AOKP for Milestone 2, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32029006&postcount=3.
The latest build of your ROM was released on 2012-10-15, but it is based on CM10 which has seen 4 builds since that date, including a really major one. I suggest you ask Megalith27 to release a new version of his ROM, based on the all-newest CM10. (Maybe I'll do that if I learn how to do it.) However I don't know whether that will solve your problem or not.
I understand this response is not so helpful, but I didn't want to leave you without any sign of life for ages.
Tschüss !

You will be able to get a qwertz keyboard in this Rom for sure.
just follow this link, and download my qwertz file. replace it as described. It will work. But replace just that one file. Not all the files as you have done!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32586129&postcount=35
So reflash the rom zip in recovery, and do it again. You will get all the olf files back, this way.
If you want to read this how to in german, please send me a pm. I will give you another link....

I'm sorry for my late reply, but here I am.
First of all, thank you for your answers.
@Agmenor:
Yes I tried long pressing and this way I get the usual small window with offers some special characters and letters. But that's not very comfortable.
I believe, if Megalith27 had to compile a new version auf this ROM that would be too much of an effort with too little use. But thank you anyway.
@lulli1
Will I be able to write letters and special characters with your linked files or will I only get a quertz layout? Typing special characters and letters without switching to the softkeyboard or long pressing buttons is one of my demands on this rom.
By the way, do I know you from android-hilfe.de? If yes, call me "MalzMalz", that's me. If not, ignore this line.

german version of the xda-developers rom 1.2

hi guys
first of all thanks a lot for your work, it helped me out a lot and especially letting me get to know my new device much better and easier.
i just have some hard time setting up your xda special rom image. with an english version built in linux flashed with the bootloader way and xdarit.exe, it worked out fine but when i tried to built my own german version, it just shows the splash screen, at the lower right corned it show that the system initialised (with this g32S54 ; R3.17.01 message written in red) but than it just freezes and cannot be started.
i somehow tried it with a german t-mobile image, an old o2 image and the newest o2 image and i got the same problem everytime.
is there a way to get the german version running ? since i'm in need of the special signs or does your mkrom script just runs on an english image ?

To be honest, we never really tested mkROM much on German versions. But there's new developments on the horizon, and you may like what's coming...

What do you mean with that??? A universal multilanguage SE??? Special german ROM???
Please give more details...
Hi All,
English is ok for me. I just would like to get a german qwertz keyboard on it.
If anybody has freeware suggestions let me know.
regards,
Silver
did you mkrom, to extract the xipchain from your rom?
the offsets used in mkrom may need to be changed. currently these are all hardcoded for the qtek rom. have not looked at other roms.
thanks for the hint, i'm just about to try that, just did not recognize this xipchains script. but i'm working on that.
but since my knowledge is not that good it may take a while...
more hints are welcome .
actually this german qwertz keyboard is the most important thing for me too.. but having also a german language just makes navigating much quicker, and since there are a lot of people around here being interested in your special rom, because the original once just suck and are totally unusable. and yours seems to run very stable...
greetz at all

Sorry, no freeware, but there is an application called calligrapher, wich is a handwriting recognition thingy, far better than transscriber. It can use custom dictionaries and has a better keyboard included with it. I use it all the time with a dutch upgrade. You can get the german one if you like and youll have the qwertz keyboard. (Because of a bug, the dutch version also has qwertz).
I have also tried to built a German one...see http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1490&highlight=dolo
So I am even not sure if my Linux solution is the right one, or the hardcoded stuff is tricking me.
so any clue on how to get mkrom on German ROM running is apreciated.
Dolo
just checked the 3.19.01 german rom, the MISC block is larger than in the qtek rom. now it is partially overwritten by the XDA_DEVELOPERS1 block.
you would have to change the start of xda_developers1 to 81840000,
and also make it smaller, since not everything will fit anymore.
hey that sounds cool, but how do i do that ?
deleting some files out of the files2 directory ?
and how do i set the start block ? sorry did not have enough time to read through all the readme and how to files...
thanks a lot

ET9 input method for Shadow

The input method come from official 1.11.531 WWR ROM
I just ctreated a cab file which can automatic install.
If you are english user using my rom.
you can use this to go back to ET9
It was not fully tested, because i dont have a shadow.
If it work, please send me a reply
Thanks for the Chinese rom. Though the T9 does not work. I can only type numbers after installing this one. Was trying to use the * button to change
input method in messaging, but the * button always just lock the device.
The Chinese input method works, though it does not match the keyboard layout at all. I guess a mapping instruction would be helpful if fix is not possible.
Thank you for your testing.
I will repack the Et9 and upload again
Hi, HiKey. I tried something else and this is an interesting thing I found.
I found this language pack and installed it. Funny thing is, none of the 14 languages showed up. BUT, now when I press and hold the *key, instead of locking the device, it now give me choice of Pinyin, Bihua, Number, T9, ZiMu(ABC), and I can choose and use each fine. So I guess that your rom may already have a few input options, but may need a reg change to the *key from lock to switching input method. Just my 2 cents.

Well, now I can input everything. Just not matching the Shadow keyboard layout. But still a great improvement. Thanks again for the great and stable ROM.

Has anyone gotten the old keypad layout back with the Chinese rom? It still isn't mapping correctly.

Testing now and thx for the contribution.
Are you sure it fits the 20 keys keypad of C750, also known as Shadow, Juno?
Use their new Shadow. His in Vietnam. How can turn off the default text from the T9 to ABC?

Call for help: Contacts Chinese (pinyin) search and msyh fonts in 6.5 ROM

I am in China, and have upgraded my snap into the 6.5 ROM. I have two questions.
1. But I still could not seek contacts via the 26-key keybords, only 9 keys (T9) could be used. I've tried to install "pinyin seek.cab", but it does not work. Is there any solution?
2. The Chinese font in snap was ugly. I've tried to change fonts on 6.1 ROM, but I could not manage it on the 6.5 ROM. I tried to install the msyh.cab (14 MB), but it does not work. Any solutions?
Thanks.
which rom have you flashed? My one is tmob dash 3g, i flashed 112509, it works well for me. under \setting\tools\keymap config, select the right one for your snap.
in order to display chinese, i tried several times, at last i found one way to solve it. install msyhfull6.0(15M) first, restart, then install msyh(4M) which is extracted from snap asia 6.5rom, restart again.

I flashed this ROM "RUU_Captain_SNAP_CHS_WM65_2.03.723.2_refry", but i could not find the keymap config at "\setting\tools\".
And could you share the "msyh(4M)" for me, thanks.
My Email is [email protected].
thank you!
http://www.hi-pda.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=513815 Just click the link. 4Mmsyh, official asia rom(6.1?). Sorry, msyh(4M) is extracted from c720w rom, not snap's.
my one is dash 3g and the keymap is totally different with other snaps. so i flashed the "RUU_MAPL_3VOLUTION_WM65_3VO.2.50.112509.rar" cooked by ookba which has included all kinds of keymaps of snap. For me, it's enough to display and input chinese character. I don't care whether the UI is cn or en.
it's said the offical asia rom would go wrong if msyh is tried to be installed. maybe a rumor.
If you needn't chinese UI. I think you will be satisfied with the rom i have mentioned. It works stably and includes lots of useful tools. and also, i have fixed some bugs of titaniuweather.mrsc, if you need it, i can send the fixed file to you.

Thank you.
MSYH font have fixed, with a 14MB font pack and modification in the registry files.
There's no keymap config in my snap, maybe a new ROM should be flashed.
I've tried RUU_MAPL_3VOLUTION_WM65_3VO.2.00.101009 without Chinese display. So I flashed to a Asia ROM. I need further study in Hi-PDA, thank you!

External USB keyboard french layout

Since I can't reply to the development forum thread "External Keyboard with AZERTY"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867923, I post my reply here :
I succeeded to compile a french keyboard layout by deploying some french kbd source mapping files found on the web at <android_2.2>/sdk/emulator/keymaps, adding the source files to the "Android.mk" and building the deployment files "fr.kcm.bin" & "fr.kl".
Find attached a zip file, you may unzip on "/tmp" on your gen8 device and execute "./setup.sh" to install the french layouts (Works on my MobilityLab USB external keyboard).
Of course, you need "root" access to mount a tmpfs filesystem and fix the content of the "/system/usr/keychars" and "/system/usr/keylayout".
thank you very much i will try to put int in the init phase
Thank you very much for sharing. This is a good news for French user.
I wish someone can compile a Thai language for external keyboard layout.
Could you please done it for my dream come true?
Yesterday I bought a USB keyboard and noticed the QWERTY layout, today, quick search and find this topic, what a pleasure to go on XDA each day!
Going to root my 101 (3 days old lol) and install this!
Thanks!
Does anyone besides me find it somewhat humorous that a French company doesn't support French? I know...I'm stupid.
Any advise to launch your script?
I tried to launch it through Console emulator, it seems to ran but it did not change anything.
Although my kb is a mobility lab
Edit: I verified, both files are correctly copied, but still in qwerty, maybe there is a change to perform to choose the layout?
After choosing French in the External KB menu and rebooted it works!
Thanks!

Maybe, maybe not.
I think you should give it a try, if your device is an Android one, I don't see anything that could cause an issue...
As always, backup before, apply, reboot (I had to) and test
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I'm just dumb! It say have to Change my software keybaord layout to fit with the bluetooth one but it work only with the keyboard of the tab (the Samsung keyboard). I use a Samsung galaxy tab with rom overcom
For who Wana try one other tab, enter the setup of your stock ROM keyboard and try to use different configuration.

[Q] Custom ROM from stock, just add language

Hi,
Can someone point me to procedure or guide how to take stock rom fromthe unit and just addnadditional interface language.
Thanx,
DiNo
Well, you are still looking?
Ok, I popped open a rom, and what I saw, was in the /system/usr/xt9/databases/ldb, were ldb files in multiple languages. (LanguageDataBase)
My guess, is that this is part of the multi-system language based on region.
So my guess, is that if you find a rom (any rom), that contains your regional language, you should be able to copy that Ldb file, into the custom rom zip, and let it re-compress the zip file, then try flashing it. This may give you the language support you are looking for.
It's a guess for me, but, it may work. Maybe something else is needed.
I have a feeling, finding a custom rom in Croatian, will be extremely difficult. So, sometimes, you have to do it yourself. Find your regional HC 3.2, and unzip it, and look inside.
Hi,
Thanks for reply.
I found out that motorola Xoom latest stock rom has Croatian language built in.
Would it work to copy ldb file from it or there will be issues since it is for another device ?
Thanks for tutoring but this are my first steps

Usually, we don't copy files from a rom other than acer. Not without doing a recovery backup first.
It's possible you will be ok. I think at the most, it will force close, or reboot. Or, it may work. I would be interested to know.
Also, you may want to take a look around and see if there are other files that may be linked to language. I was just lucky finding what I found.
I guess it will all depend on if the zoom ldb uses the exact same format as the Acer roms. 50/50 chance.
Seems I have found additional info on changing to a different language. Hope you want to learn a little programming
