[Q] Nexus 7 3g - Set network type to WCDMA only - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys!
Is there a way to set the network type in our Nexus 7 3g device? I remember being able to do this in my phone (N7000) by dialing *#*#4636#*#*.
However, using various dialers to issue this code doesn't show the phone settings menu.
BTW. I'm using vanilla android, and prefer to do so for a longer time. So if the only solution is to root please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

Bumping this threat. Any help please?

You may wanna try installing the ICS Dialer from Playstore.

Access Hidden Menu
I tried installing several dialers, and I always get the message "GSM options are not available on on this device...etc.". After hours of searching, I was able to find Hidden Menus, you can find it on the Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.freespirit.hms&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm9yZy5mcmVlc3Bpcml0LmhtcyJd. Now I'm able to set my Nexus 7 3G to WCDMA only (it's set to WCDMA preferred by default).
Edit: It goes back to WCDMA preferred after reboot. Anyone knows a better alternative or maybe a mod we can flash from recovery?
Thanks

[Q] remove Cell standby

On the Nook in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888216
user xboxexpert managed to unload the phone tools on the nook and stop the nook from searching for a cell network. Since a few of us are off contract, I'd love to be able to do the same on my Tab. So I tried the same, renaming the files. It didn't work. The Tab ended up in an infinite loop of trying to restart the phone when phone.apk no longer existed. I didn't dare try restarting after renaming it when it was all I could do to get the Tab stable again without infinite app crashes slowing it down.
I like to use a bluetooth keyboard at work and airplane mode disables bluetooth, so no deal there. So does anyone have an idea on how we can disable the wireless network without being in Airplane mode?
I have the same question.... I want to use my tab Wifi only... anyone find a solution?
You can switch WiFi ob when in airplane mode.
Regards,
Dave
is there a permanent solution for it?
You can go into Phone Info via *#*#4636#*#* (or create an Anycut shortcut to Phone Info, under Activites) and switch the radio off there at the bottom of the page.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be mean, but you didn't even read the entire post.

I suppose if I really want to do this then I need to get the dialer working? It seems kind of roundabout, I'm trying to disable the mobile network and phone options, but in order to do that I need to make it more like a phone first? I say that because I tried Anycut and under Activities there was no "Phone Info" activity. Thanks for the thought Hairy.
This is on a stock rooted T-mobile Tab, that I'm not planning to flash just yet. Maybe when Cyanogen is in a later beta. I'm just not that deep into hacking my devices, and while I appreciate people that do I just have other priorities.

Must be a ROM issue as I'm on JM6 and the Phone Info option is there on Anycut. I went through this myself for the same reasons, so good luck
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
i am also in perma-airplane at home and just having wifi or bluetooth enabled.
works perfectly

Rather presumptuous of you to assume that? You can use Bluetooth too (at least on the ROMs I've used)

Yeah, just tried again, and *#*#4636#*#* is the right combo. Can you change the radio band? Mine always getting "Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped.".

Take a peek there.
There's a pretty handy app on the play store that makes a shortcut just to this. It's called Network. Author is Philipp Mangelow. Cannot post a link yet due to low post count.
thats work but after restart u need to do same thing again ?!! anyway to make this option is default?

It should be that as default, mine is. I force LTE via the testing menu myself.
This is a bit of a workaround but it'll get it done.
If you add telephone.lteOnGsmDevice=1 to your build.prop, it'll enable "Preferred network mode" in mobile network settings. You'll be able to select LTE/WCDMA. Hopefully this will keep you off GSM.
Perhaps there's another flag that'd enable the menu offering WCDMA only.
preference not saving
I have both 2G and 3G network available but i want my phone to connect to a 3G network only ... i would like to set this to "WCDMA only" but after every reboot its switching back to "WCDMA Preferred".
Is there a way we can save this preference ?
does this work in android 4.3 ?
because i can't get it to show the setting. galaxy s4, GE ROM 4.3
edit: got it to work with TelInfo app.

Service Mode?

Is there a way to acess Service Mode on this variant of the S5? I tried setting shortcuts, using nova launcher, and a lot of other things but dialer codes are turned off. I can't even dial to check the IMEI which is sad. Is there something I'm missing or is root necessary to enable hidden dialer codes? Reason i need to acess service Mode is to change the Network Band to LTE/GSM so I can use LTE on T-Mobile network. When I go to settings, applications, all, I see the IOTSERVICEMODE and Service Mode app on the system

Don't think it's possible. ....I know in "more networks"-mobile networks-settings you can switch between global/lte&cdma/gsm&umts..... but, I think that's the best u can get. ... which isn't what you want at all
beav3r
I know the S4 had the band's I needed, so the S5 should have it as well. It was a mistake buying the Verizon version, should have bought the T-Mobile version but people these days reporting their phones lost as soon as it's sold, can't really risk it.

You probably need root to do anything but try these dialer codes if you haven't already -
Code:
*#2263#
*#*#2263#*#*
The terminal command below probably needs root to succeed as well. But you might want to give it a try anyway. Install a terminal emulator app from the play store and then try entering:
Code:
am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://27663368378
.

Nexus 6p Radio band selection menu possibility

Hey guys I was wondering is it possible that we can make a piece of software that can give us the ability to select the radio band manually? Any thoughts or comments will be appreciated.

I believe there is a service menu, I'm currently looking for that myself. There is an app called lte discovery but that may only let you see which band your on.

thank you that does let you choose which preferred network to use, but I think op wants to set specific bands of the network. On my old s6 there was a code that let you set these to whatever you wished, but have tried it and doesn't work.

Not sure if this will help 100%, but I am sure i can't hurt.
Since you're rooted you can go ahead and install this by flashing the zip in recovery.
After you have booted back up, open the new incall modz control app.
Then hit the three lines on the top left to open the control menu options.
Scroll down and click the advanced hidden menu section.
This section opens up several hidden menus.
You can look through and see what may give you the options you're looking for.
I suggest using the "apn unlocking" to give you access to edit the apn setting.
You can also play around in the "phone testing menu" section and look within the field test secrion to force LTE.
I must say BE CAREFUL because you could change a setting that may require a restore/reinstall of your rom!.
I have played with a lot of settings and never done any real damage, seems like it would just close the app of the option wasn't compatible with my phone.
The hidden menus are also accessible via a dialer code (which varies per device variant and there are playstore apps as well, don't remembwr the names.
I only suggest the mod, because it is part of ny oZoP project and it will give you lots of customizations for the caller id, plus the advanced hidden menu that i beleive you could use. Like i said though, there are other options and the choice is yours.
Good luck

Well it looks like I don't need to answer the first question, but I will just mention for other users, the mod has been tested and confirmed working on every "stock" based rom without issue.
As far as the menu options not showing, it looks to me if the setup you are running has had the files needed for the options debloated or possibly that variant doesn't include them by default.
I have attatched a flashable zip of the files needed, but I DO RECOMMEND MAKING A FULL BACKUP just in case.
After you get your backup finished just flash the zip in recovery and proceed back to the app for the extra options.
Good luck again and let me know how that goes. Your feedback is valuable to me so I can ensure that everyone gets the same experiance as I intended
